He replied to my email inquiry very quickly, he came onsite to assess the job and sent me a detailed, professional quote that night, as promised. The quote was extremely affordable and transparent. While at the house to assess the job for the quote, Auggie took measurements for me to tell me the tub dimensions I'd need and his recommended sizes for the vanity, etc. He was very friendly and I immediately trusted him. His team was flexible and accommodating with their scheduling. They were able to start as soon as all the essential materials arrived. The team did great work; they arrived early and worked continuously all day, only taking one break for lunch. Our project was executed during covid; the team wore masks the entire time and maintained social distance during interactions. We felt extremely safe with the team in our home. Covid aside, the team was extremely orderly and clean; they put down protective floor coverings, kept the job site organized, and cleaned up the job site thoroughly everyday. Throughout the entire process, Auggie was honest, he kept within our budget, worked hard and fast, and never disappointed us. At the end of the project, Auggie did a walk through and gave us a folder that included a summary sheet with line items of all material expenses and hard copies of all the original receipts - I was shocked. As for the final product, the pictures attached speak for themself - Beautiful!

If you are doing an outside project, don't pick green sequoia as this seems to be a trend (see Jonathan's review from July 2019). They kept demo'ing after finding an issue, making it worse, and then they left us hanging for a month until they were finally removed from the job. Overall, Green Sequoia did more harm than good on this. Not sure new management is working out. Full story: Green Sequoia previously did our bathroom and did a great job. Jessie and Victoria also did our closet. Love those two. We saw an opportunity to improve our backyard living space by removing unnecessary planters and retaining walls. We had two quotes and went with Green Sequoia, the more expensive one, because of the previous relationship. They didn't tell us that they didn't have exterior expertise and the person on the job wasn't a normal part of the crew but instead a subcontractor. When construction started, we knew there was a question if a retaining wall was supporting or redundant. As soon as the project started, removing a small part of that wall would have made it quickly clear it was supportive as the wall behind ended 8 inches from the top. That's when they should have stopped. They didn't. They dropped the whole wall and then only contacted me after. This caused increased cost and a safety risk for both me and my neighbor. The same occurred in another part of the property. Oversight of the subcontractor was clearly poor. Construction was halted a week after starting in early June because of these errors. Afterwards, Green Sequoia sat on it for a month without getting me change orders or a clear plan to fix it despite nearly daily questions and pings from me. I gave them an ultimatum on July 6th to have a plan by end of week or I would remove them from the job and seek a refund. Four days later they were off the job. No refund yet despite 5 follow up notes from me - but complaint filed with state license board. This project will cost me $20k more, with less improvements made, because of what it will take to repair their damages. The project was supposed to be 3 weeks. Currently it's looking like 3 months because I've had to remove Green Sequoia from the job and get a new contractor. Issues come up with old properties. When starting our plan I fully expected that there may be some small unexpected cost. My issue with Green Sequoia was the lack of oversight, the recklessness that caused increased damage, and the abandonment of the project. Two stars because through this disaster Kirk was still responsive. While I don't agree with their lack of ownership about their actions, I appreciate that communication lines stayed open and that he visited to do some bracing upon my request.

This company did a remodel on a coop I bought in Alameda…read more UPDATE 10/3 Total Works did come out and re-did the floor at not cost to me. Frazier explained that they can only perform the work that the customer or seller or Agent paid for. I understand that part, but as I told him - no one asked me who paid for my floor - All they see is the end result - which was not good. They did not repaint the trim, which i will do myself - I told him that selecting one color to paint everything is fine, but you still need to prep. There were other issues when the redid the floor - the decorative toe kick on the NEW cabinets came out in the middle and instead of glueing it back they wanted to nail it. I asked that it be glued and they did glue it... but Nailed it anyway...they left tools and trash of theirs and took a tote of mine. Which was quickly taken care of. They were nice enough to replace the gold threshold with silver. The floor now looks fabulous - they tore up the vinyl, put new underlayment in the whole kitchen and put down a new piece of vinyl. I appreciate Chase and his follow up! 1. I needed a gas line put in for the dryer and a water line for the fridge. I got an estimate of $1200. I thought that was high so I asked if I could save $400 by going to the city myself to get the permit. Frazier told me he gave me everything I would need to pull a permit for a gas line. I have the letter of approval from the HOA and a drawing of my kitchen showing where the line was going. The very nice people at the permit department in Alameda told me that I needed a drawing showing all the BTUs, etc showing that it was possible to install a gas line, not a drawing showing where it should go. And they told me that a licensed contracter should have known better. I agree. so I got another estimate from Todd Roberts at Roberts Plumbing and he took care of everything for $675. Now I am having a problem with the linoleum floor that was put in the kitchen. It is bubbling and they obviously did not level the floor becuase I can see the outline or a sheet of plywood that is now coming up and will soon come right thru the floor! They painted everything Beige - walls, ceiling, woodwork..everthing. I am certain that the color was at the request of the previous owner, so I repainted the walls and ceiling, but when I started on the trim and doors I noticed that the new paint was peeling off. What company would paint without priming? I asked my HOA and the Realtor how to proceed and they said contact Total Works and have them come out and fix it. I have an email in to Frazier and will update this when and if they contact me. UPDATE 9-2-14 A very nice man named Chase just called in response to my email adn has scheduled a time to come out and make things right.

This is a review and summary of my experience with Total Works Corp contractors Jorge and Bayardo…read morebetween 3/25 and 3/30. I wanted a bit of work done on my condominium, and sent an email with a list of specific items I wanted renovated. They responded by saying they could give me a quote, but that they would need to see the condominium first. This is a given, so I drove out two hours to the condominium in San Francisco to meet with Bayardo. He was a little late, but that is understandable because the parking in the area is atrocious. Bayardo was a really nice guy, and we went through every item that needed to be renovated. I told him that the renovation was time-sensitive, and that I would like a quote ASAP. He took pictures of everything and promised a quote by that night. The next day, I receive an email from Jorge saying that they can't provide a quote because they need to see the place again. So I ask if he can meet that day, and he's unable to. I ask if they can meet over the weekend, but he's busy. So Jorge suggest the following week, and I hesitate because the renovation is extremely time-sensitive with the HOA meeting coming up. He promises to meet on Monday, so I reluctantly agree. Monday morning, I wake up early and drive two hours into the city to meet Jorge. Less than an hour before our meeting time, he texts me to say that he's canceling, and that he won't be working with me. In succinct, Total Works Corp is extremely unreliable and unprofessional. One of the most critical things in contracting work is reliability-you don't want your contractor abandoning a job mid-contract. FJ Construction offered us the best value, on the fastest schedule, and they did spectacular work. FJ Construction never inflated the scope of work, charged us excess fees, or tasked more people than a job needed. Keep in mind, every project runs into problems when plans meet reality. With FJ, there was always a solution -- along with a patient explanation, and a clear-cut breakdown of the costs. In the end, we were in-budget, on-schedule, and we could not be happier with the results. Not only that, but Franklin was always helpful: we got tips on where to buy grout, and how to do smaller jobs for ourselves. --- Detailed breakdown of work We had quite a list of improvements we wanted to make: - continuation of existing fence to fully enclose the yard - installation of a new door between two parts of the house that were connected by an extra-thick wall - removal of 2 security doors and replacement of 2 existing exterior-facing doors - moving an interior wall (which we opted not to do) Franklin quickly impressed us early on to earn the job. As first-time homebuyers, it was refreshing to speak with a contractor who would (and could) educate us and explain things -- such as pointing out stud patterns in the ceiling that likely suggested a wall was load-bearing. Other contractors would just wave their hands and give outrageous estimates with no explanation of their process. FJ, by comparison, showed an incredible attention to detail, always took measurements and explained what they would do, and patiently outlined every work item and expense before they did it. FJ Construction started work almost immediately. At every step, Franklin would call me over and double-check the work, explaining any tradeoffs that came up in the process. When the fencing didn't line up perfectly during early measurements, he explained why and offered us solutions. When the hallways on either side of a wall didn't line up, Franklin explained our options -- and helped us to frame our off-center door so that it would still look good. When our new exterior doors had thresholds that were too shallow, Franklin retrofitted the old thresholds by cutting and affixing them to the new ones. When we wanted our fence gate moved, Franklin explained to us the liability we might face if it opened the wrong way and tripped a delivery person. Throughout, FJ continually impressed us with thoughtful consideration, thorough explanations, and creative problem-solving. They never left out any details: they cleaned up after themselves, they finished and painted everything so that it matched perfectly, they followed up on their estimates and timelines constantly to keep us informed. I cannot recommend FJ Construction strongly enough. Give them a chance! You won't regret it.
