I…read morecalled Michael in a huge rush because when we got up to paint my Daughter's Senior parking spot at school we had a big surprise: the prior paint was the wrong kind of paint it was bubbling and chipping in tiny pieces. Paint stripper had to be applied and now we needed to rinse it off with a quickness as to not disturb the other student's fresh paint (the spots next to her were not yet painted). Not only that there's no water source at the school and we were about to resort to 5 gallon buckets of rinsing water. We would have, but we also had a jam packed week and very little time to get up there before the other painters got started. Michael answered my call (which is amazing in itself) and heard the urgency in my voice. Even though he had a very busy day at work he did everything he could to come out and assess the situation. By the time I got there he had power washed the area very thoroughly. I told him thank you I really appreciate you and I expected him to leave. He did not. When my Daughter showed up a little while later Michael was there on his hands and knees peeling/chipping off paint with me. He stayed to help us for a very long time and also very very thoroughly power washed the whole parking spot again just because he wanted to help us. What a kind, considerate man who came to us out of the kindness of his heart, in the heat, and stayed to help us far longer than we ever expected because he wanted to. We are so extremely grateful for Michael and the work he does. We definitely made a friend that day. As a Realtor I will refer Shine My Glass to all of my Listing Clients in the future. My interior designer, Lenore Callahan, designed my guest bathroom renovation,  which included a…read morewalk-in shower in place of a typical bathtub/shower combo.  Together we interviewed four contractors and I selected Sound of Work to carry out the project. One reason why I selected Sound of Work is at the time of the interview the owner Sterling Wilson and his crew went up into the attic and checked the water heater location in relation to the bathroom renovation and made a video recording of this area.  Later he sent the video to their plumbing crew so they could better understand the plumbing requirements.  The other contractors were not as diligent.  Another reason I chose Sound of Work, is that Sterling and the crew he brought to the interview all seemed very knowledgeable and easy to communicate with.  As soon as I signed their contract, Sound of Work carried out the project like an finely tuned orchestra. Sterling prepared the score (schedule), and the music (construction) was carried out under the conductor (construction foreman) Dave Elliott.  For the plumbing part, Sam Lopez and his assistant Kim installed the shower head, hand shower, two body sprays, the complicated automatic toilet, sink and faucet.  Sam also ran the required plumbing lines from the water heater in the attic to the bathroom.  Since the shower heads, body sprays and their thermostatic control panel had to be installed in a tiny area, I thought the plumbing wouldn't be easy. However, it was done without any issues using their experiences and professional skills.  In addition, my master bathroom shower had a low pressure issue for a long period of time.  Thanks to Sam, he discovered the cause and fixed the issue.  Other plumbers over the years didn't know how to fix that issue. For the tile part, Stephen Raesz and his assistants, Doug and Donny, did amazingly beautiful work for the wall and floor tile. Stephen arranged tiles precisely and carefully.  He coordinated well with Lenore and Dave to accurately plan the shower nook, bench, and tile spacings, etc.   Furthermore, he checked his work repeatedly to make sure it was as perfect as possible.  He was particular about the details.  Stephen is a true artisan and professional. For the electrical part ,   Kevin Cox installed recessed lights, vanity lights, a mirror, power outlets, and light switches.  The recessed lights which he selected were just perfect for the bathroom.  He is friendly and professional. Dave, from Sound of Work, was a great construction foreman.  He kept the subcontractors following the schedule, checked and organized the plumbing fixtures, and came to my place every day to confirm each job was well done.  He also did handyman work related to the project, including carpentry work.  He is very talented. Sterling visited many times, and had onsite meetings with Lenore and myself to verify the construction was following the designer's and my specifications.    For example, Sterling, Dave, and the plumber, took measurements for the body sprays as directed by Lenore, to fit my body and the body of a typical person.  Sterling communicated well and coordinated at a high level. Many other subcontractors, hired by Sound of Work, also worked on this project. All of them are very professional, kind and friendly. My new guest bathroom was completed with the harmony of all teams.  Selecting Sound of Work was the right decision. I already discussed my next project with Sterling . I look forward to working with Sound of Work again.

Just in case, I will give EVCO the benefit of a review; it's the least I can do for them after they scammed me out of over $2000. The work this contractor was shoddy in every respect, and they don't take any responsibility for their mistakes. The principal made me sign a contract (I'll never fall for this one again) which he is now using to try to insist I pay them the remainder of what I "owe" even though they didn't finish the work and left me with an unusable subfloor that I will now have to tear out at my expense and find someone else to construct again. There are many disreputable, sleazy construction contractors in Austin and also a few good and honest ones. Try and find one of the honest ones. If the person you're hiring is kind of pushy and insistent that you sign a contract with a lot of questionable clauses (must go to arbitration in case of a dispute, etc..) take this as a sign that they have been in many disputes with previous customers and make your exit as quickly as possible. You don't want to be one of those customers; i.e. you don't want to be me: out over $2000 and further away from my goal than I was when I started.

I am blogging my review from my own personal experience for my home & a friend/neighbor's home done by Evco Remodeling. The project-to keep simple was for new countertops, back splash & all new fixtures in our home to prepare it to sell. After calling and personally speaking with the owner, Roger, I felt more than comfortable setting an appointment. He answered almost all of my bazillion & bizarre questions as I was pretty much trying to force a quote over the phone :) The next day the hubby & I met with him and just by him being so accurate with the "pre-quote" over the phone and his professional advice & demeanor my we decided he had more knowledge than the previous contractors we had met. We went forward. Roger went over a simple 2 page contract with us binding us together (which I do NOT agree with the guys comment below WHATSOEVER, I think there should be a contract in place... for your protection and theirs) and then we paid half of our price at the time we signed and was told we would pay the rest on the last day! Work started almost IMMEDIATLY... the men were very nice, dressed appropriately and in hopes to not "offended" anyone reading this I'll keep it simple by saying these were not your usual contractors coming into our home. They were polite, clean, wiped their feet and I could tell they were really going out of their ways to make my family and I feel comfortable while in our space- which most certainly has to be harder said than done! I watched as the work was being done and never questioned if something was right or wrong, never had any worries, issues about them showing up on time, or work not getting finished. The owner would call and ask how things were going and he was also stopping by and doing MUCH supervising! I basically never had any questions on concerns with the work being done. All said and done my home turned out to beautiful... almost to the point my husband and I didn't want to sell anymore!!!! :) It was like a brand new home!! Who would of known what a HUGE difference a little remodeling can do for your house! If it wasn't for our relocation back to Houston I would still be there now. Just keep in mind if you are in the Austin area and need remodeling that Evco treated me AMAZING from start to finish. The work, people & prices were great and completely exceeded our expectations. So, if you, fellow yelper, need a great remodeling company my experience is well worth you giving them a chance! They 100% have my recommendation!
