Service: I went 1 hour before closing, the restaurant wasn't full / too busy. Service was great and good the food very quickly. Waiter was very friendly. Ambiance: i get why restaurants do dark lighting but ehh not my thing. Food: the chips and salsa was something ive been looking for a while in Boston in general. It's a peppery, cilantro'y flavor tomato base with right size onion morsels. It's complementary since I'm there, interestingly enough they charge a hefty 8.75 if ordered for takeout, was a bit confused by that. But man it was really good, I would go here just for that and some drinks! Main entree came out quick. Refried beans (black): was great, can tell was freshly mashed and made, not from a can. Rice: pretty standard. I think i saw somewhere they use chicken broth, that flavor does come through. The side slaw: didnt care much for it, was bland. Mole enchilada: I gotta stop ordering mole i just don't think its for me, was sweet for my taste. Meat was good, I think, but the mole sauce was covering it up so next time ill try the same meat without the mole sauce. Chicken Verde Enchilada: this was alright. The chicken was cooked well, not overcooked like most places do! The Verde sauce was hoping for more tangy, but was just ehh. Roja Enchilada: this I loved! Ground beef well flavored, and the roja sauce was flavorful. Definitely want to explore this menu more, definitely coming back! read more

With the warm summer weather, I wanted to take advantage of the warm nights and patio dining. I met up with a friend here for a couple of margs. I got a classic and the colorful ghost. My friend got two passion fruit margs. I preferred the regular marg and thought the colorful ghost was a little too sweet for me. The patio was the perfect setting and quiet. We came on a Sunday evening for apps and drinks. I thought the service and food (appetizers) were average but the restaurant was very cozy and romantic. Guacamole (7/10): Big portion and creamy. I love guac but I felt like this one was lacking in tang/zest. I personally like more lemon/lime in my guac, and I think it would have made it more refreshing. I also wish we got more chips to finish the guac. Higaditos (6/10): Spicy! I wasn't a fan because I don't like liver but it was nice to try. Napolitos (8.5/10): I really liked the addition of tortilla strips and cheese to the cactus. The green sauce had a nice surprising kick, and the overall dish had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It was my favorite dish and I kept reaching back for more! read more

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Boston. The price points are very reasonable, the menu is pretty traditional appealing to the local tastes. I thought the service staff was terrific, even had a brief conversation with the owner Rima who was lovely and welcoming. My orders are pretty standard for latinx foods I'm all about the nacho chips with salsa and guac for starters, if you can't get this right how's the rest of the meal going. Well the chips are nice and crisp and the salsa just the right amount of zip and couldn't make a fresher guac, great start. I go right for the burrito for my main, the chicken house special and they did not disappoint. The ingredients are nice and fresh and well balanced and filling, this is a big burrito, if you're a lite eater share it but if you're a big eater like me this is definitely goin to hit the spot. I like the area too, not exactly downtown so you don't have to play parking roulette. I've come here before a night time Sox game, close enough to walk to the park but far enough away to get easy parking. Very enjoyable spot, if Mexican food is your jam don't pass this up. read more

This is a great restaurant - fast and super friendly server, great food and the best margarita I've had (the Cadillac Margarita). I had the daily special - shrimp in a coconut based sauce with mashed black beans (absolutely delicious), rice and a slaw salad. The sauce on the large shrimp was a great blend. Loved this small restaurant right by Fenway! Our party of two was seated immediately and getting to sit outside was perfect. We ordered the deep fried quesadilla and burrito, both of which were gigantic and delicious! The food also came very quick after ordering, so just for that, I'd definitely come back. The deep fried quesadilla was soooo crunchy and entirely filled with meat and cheese. There was so much filling that I was full after eating just one. The marinated cabbage was delicious, but the beans were saltier than I'd liked. The burrito was soft and veryyy large, full of flavor. This was a great spot for Mexican food. They have a very large menu. My boyfriend and I had the guacamole to start, it was a little expensive $9, but it was a lot of guacamole. They also give you salsa and will give you more chips if you ask. They had a very large drink menu as well. I had the pomegranate margarita and it was really good. For dinner I had the enchiladas verdes. It was also a lot of food. While the menu was a little expensive the service was excellent. This was my second time visiting this restaurant and it definitely won't be the last! Since it was a nice evening, we decided to dine outdoors which was lovely and comfortable. After ordering, we were given some complimentary chips and salsa which were absolutely delicious and flavorful. The enchiladas especially seem to be the speciality of this restaurant, and I can see why! We were very excited to find what seemed to be an authentic Mexican restaurant to try while we visited Boston, but this was a disappointing location. We started with the guacamole and chips, which were pretty great, so we thought we were in the right place. We ordered crispy chicken tacos for the kids, mole enchiladas and chicken fajitas. The place was somewhat busy, but it took over 30 minutes to get our food, maybe closer to 45 minutes The kids tacos were NOT crispy, and were so soggy even the adults could not eat them The mole enchiladas were not bad, but the mole was definitely artisanal, to say the least. Maybe I am just used to the Puebla or Oaxaca style mole, but this was very different. If you have never had mole, you will probably like this, it's overly sweet and has overbearing hints of cinnamon and sugar. My main issue was the rice, it was dry and it was hard to chew. The chicken fajitas were average, not something worth trying again, but I give them credit for giving us corn tortillas; flour tortillas would have put this below average. The tamarind margarita was a 5/10. The best tamarind margaritas are at Papatzul in NYC, so this is how I grade them. The flavor was off, it had hints of soap, an aromatic soap, maybe lavender or something? Not great ‍ Finally, the service was the worst. The bus lady was helpful and got us our water and guac/chips quickly, but the server never checked on us once, likely left our food to over cook, thus drying the rice and making the tacos soggy, and so we never got more chips, spicy salsa or water. We should really be giving this place a 1 star. I think locals like it because there aren't other good authentic places around. Visitors might also like it if they never had Mexican food before. After trying El Centro, I think El Centro is probably better, even though that place is also an artisanal take on Mexican food. read more

I am glad we ignored the Yelp rating on this place when looking for a Mexican restaurant to visit while in Boston. From the minute we walked in, the staff was welcoming and friendly. We sat outside on the patio, but the restaurant inside was very nice and clean! The margaritas were delicious (we ordered spicy, cadillac, watermelon, and pama) and our food was great. We have a ton of mexican restaurants at home and have tried every type of salsa out there. Sol Azteca's salsa was so good! Fresh and chunky with lots of onion and cilantro to give it amazing flavor. We also ordered Guacamole and a Nachito to share, which were also very good. In our group of six we had Fajitas (the flavor of the steak was top notch), Enchiladas Verde (so good), Tostadas and Tacos. Also, the marinated cabbage that comes with the entrees was a very good surprise. One of the combos came out incorrect, but we did not hold this against them as the food item brought was delicious. I came to Sol Azteca for dinner one night before having to attend a night lecture. I went right when the restaurant opens at 5 PM and was seated out on the patio. The service was impeccable and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. I ordered the Sol combination which came with the choice of two of the dinner entrée options. I chose one chicken enchilada with the mole poblano sauce and a chicken quesadilla. The entrée came with rice and beans and complementary salsa and chips. I ordered a small side of guacamole to go with my chips and salsa. The chicken enchilada with the mole sauce was phenomenal. The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned, as was the enchilada sauce. I was not a fan of the chicken quesadilla. It was more like a deep-fried empanada and did not remind me of a quesadilla at all. The rice and beans were average. I did enjoy the salsa and the guacamole was good, however, like all Mexican restaurants in Boston, the guacamole was overpriced. All in all this is an average Mexican restaurant in Boston where the food is decent but the prices are way too high. I went with a party of 4 on Friday without a reservation at 6:30pm. We only had to wait for 10-15 minutes and we got seated at a very nice table with a nice mosaic design. Location: Very convenient location and close to the C line. Interior: There are tables outside where you can eat when the weather is warmer, but the inside is quite big. Food: When we ordered our food we got free chips and salsa (lots of cilantro) that came with our food (free refills too!) I ordered the burrito, and my friend ordered vegetarian burrito. I ordered the enchiladas with mole sauce and it was just so intensely salty. The sauce and the chicken were just so salty I couldn't keep eating. The chicken was also rather dry. Average level. Actually only worths 2.5*. The Guacamole was the nice stuff here to make a start. The ingredients used tasted nice. However it is kind of sad they did not add jalapeño. The main course I had which was enchiladas de Rojas was pretty disappointed. Some part was too bland and some part was too sour. For example the salad on the side was way too sour.
