Both the food and service were top notch. We visited on a busy Friday night and were well taken care of by Rose and Jess on the rooftop. Our appetizers, pasta, entrées and desserts were delicious, well plated, and served at the appropriate temperature. The short rib entrée was A+, tender, flavorful, and substantial. The filet mignon special was cooked perfectly and each bite was better than the last. This was our first time visiting and we will definitely be back again soon. Great for date night. It was seven o'clock on a Friday night in downtown Wheaton. I had a taste for pasta and had been wanting to try Sogno. I thought I had made a reservation on open table but when I arrived I didn't have a reservation. Without hesitation at all the kind hostess said no problem and accommodated me not only did she seat me but if I didn't know better I was seated at the best table in the whole restaurant. Then onto the outstanding service and food. The rigatoni with sausage was outstanding and the service was like being at grandmas house. I thanked them for accommodating me and told them I had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend them and will definitely be going back. Looking forward to trying the lobster ravioli!! This is a must go to if in Wheaton. First off the staff is amazing, you are well taken care of at Sogno! It's not a huge place, warm and cozy with a old building vibe, very nice. We always start out with the fried Calamari, fresh, crisp, done to perfection and a generous portion! Usually we get the Filet of beef. Always, ALWAYS done perfect....so flavorful and the asparagus/potatoes with rosemary/white wine/herbs really make this dish a classic. But this time we got the Short Ribs.....oh my, soooo good! The Demi-glaze, carrot risotto and veggies really make this dish something special! We really wanted to have a couple espresso's to go with the delicious dessert we had but guess it wasn't working that night. Oh well, a good excuse to go back! read more

Sogno is our absolutely favorite Wheaton restaurant! We have been dining here for years (and knew the owners way before they moved to Wheaton)! The menu never disappoints from the homemade pastas to seasonal dishes but I am a total sucker for their daily specials. The rooftop is our favorite spot (why sit on asphalt on the street under a tent when you can enjoy the ambience, and the breeze, from a rooftop?) but the interior space is gorgeous, too! Probably one of the best meals I've had all year! I was dining with a group of four guests. I didn't indulge in an appetizer, but one guest said the beet salad was excellent. Me and another guest were torn between a Cod Risotto special that included a medley of Mediterranean vegetables and olives and the Caccio de PePe which is rolled inside a Parmesan wheel to coat the pasta topped off with black pepper. Well we decided to order one of each and shared. The cod was cooked to perfection and included a beautiful medley of the most complex yet complimentary flavors. The Caccio de Pepe was rich and creamy, I've never ate anything like it. For dessert we shared a Ferraro Roche mousse desert that was rich and decadent. So what was my favorite - well, that's a hard question. I have to give the trophy to the cod with risotto, the flavors were spot on and left me wanting to eat more, although I was pretty full. Found myself out in the West Suburbs catching up with a friend and wanted some Italian food. He had recommended a nearby restaurant that was more American fare with some Italian dishes. Then he said there was another Italian eatery a block away and we should check its menu. So glad we did. Stuffed calamari. Chicken parmesan. Lobster da fraviola. Oh my God. Usually you will get calamari as rings, be it boiled or fried. The stuffing in these whole calamari has raised the bar a mile high. Neither rubbery nor tasteless, this appetizer dish was not enough, it was so good. When you season calamari such that diners want more, the chef has achieved a significant goal in the culinary arts. The chicken parmesan my friend had seemed to have had a hint of ginger in it. That went over incredibly well, not to mention that the sauce was superb with a mild spicy kick. As to the lobster da fraviola, I could have had a cigarette afterwards. Truly spicy and stupid delicious, I could have this dish at least once a week for the rest of my life and never tire of it. Must say that the server was very knowledgeable of the menu without having to refer to it and very engaging in banter while we ordered. Who would have thought that an Italian restaurant tucked away in one of Chicago's western suburbs would be so authentic and enticing? This experience warrants an encore. read more

I went to dinner with my family on a Saturday night. The food was fantastic. Especially enjoyed the meatballs. I had a nice bottle of wine. Tiffany was an excellent server and was very knowledgeable on the menu. Additionally, their support staff were surprisingly very helpful and very attentive when we needed additional water/bread. We have lived in Wheaton for a few years decided to try Sogno for the first time Saturday evening. We arrived at 8 finally served dinner after 9:00 and they weren't that busy. The food is good, but over priced, the service is awful and to eat this meal at the price on wobbly tables and chairs and not even a table cloth leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Businesses need us and we need you but if I'm going to spend 50.00 a person on dinner ( before tip) to sit in the street then you need to at least show your appreciation and service the table... read more

I ordered the Zuppa De Pesci and my wife ordered the Cacio e Pepe. I was charged $98 dollars (market price) for 3 pieces of shrimp, a 2 ounce lobster tail, old tiny clams and rubbery calamari. The seafood was not fresh and certainly not worth $98. Have you no shame at all. The pasta was not fresh either. The Cacio e Pepe was mediocre. Do not dine here. We had dinner here Memorial Day weekend. The food was outstanding, and the service was predictably excellent. My only complaint is about the wine service. If you order a wine under $100, you get cheap glassware, meant for water service but not for fine wine. Spend enough on a bottle of wine, and you will be able to enjoy your wine with "real" wine glasses, rather than clunky goblets. Wine, to me, is as important as the food, so being served wine in water goblets is a slap in the face, especially for a "fine dining" restaurant with food of the quality that Sogno serves. Even if you bring your own wine, for which there is a standard corkage fee, the wait staff assesses your wine, and if it meets their standard of an "expensive" wine, you'll get real glasses; otherwise, you get the thick-rimmed, cheap glassware that the restaurant reserved for its lower-class customers. read more

For the most part, the meal was great: seated right away, great drinks, wonderful food. But one thing bugged us quite a bit as we felt rushed. At the end of the meal, I was surprised when we realized we'd only been sitting for 45 minutes. We were out celebrating a birthday and wanted to linger to celebrate. However, we were asked multiple times by different employees who passed our table if we were done with our plates when we would stop to talk. It became awkward so we ended up getting boxes,paying our bill and leaving, feeling a bit unsatisfied. Service is all over the place. One takes your drink order, one delivers, one checks on you, one clears your plates, one takes food order and it goes on and on. You ask a server for another drink and they have to send someone else. Then we ordered 2 cappuccino's and they bring expresso's. We said we ordered cappuccino's and the waiter actually argued with us telling us we were wrong. Well no we are not wrong. We hate expressos and haven't ordered one in 30 years. Food is average. Our parry of 4 went on a Sunday night in August and had dinner on the rooftop. The louvered roof kept the sun from baking us and there was no street noise being so high up. But the passing train can stop a conversation for a moment. Not a big deal. The food is great. The chicken Parmesan have me two meals. We also had a chicken Parmesan altered to grilled chicken with gluten free pasta. Pork chops and salmon was also enjoyed. Two birthday cannolis ended the meal nicely. With 3 drinks the tab was $150 before tip. There is an elevator so don't worry about the long stairs from entrance to restaurant to rooftop. Service was attentive and we were covered by two servers who did a good job of watching out for us. I'll Sogno is in an area of many good restaurants and parking is free right outside the door. Met with some fellow yelpers for a dinner here. We shared a couple appetizers, including the special of the day - Italian ceviche - and arancini. The Italian ceviche was surprisingly very delicious! I really enjoyed the tender octopus in particular. The arancini was ok but not terribly memorable. For dinner I had the risotto of the day - butternut squash risotto with a filet of snapper. Weird combination, but I enjoyed it. That said, I didn't end up eating my leftovers, so I guess it was just OK overall. Service wasn't great. For what clearly looks like and wants to be a classier place, our server looked a bit sloppy and disheveled, first off. Since there were 5 of us and the menu stated the arancini came with 4, I ordered it asking if she could make the order for 5 pieces instead of 4. She made it sound like it was a difficult request......... ok. They have a large Italian wine list which was awesome, but the waitress was also not familiar with their selections at all. That typically is frowned upon, especially at any Italian restaurant. I would be fine with it if she had given me other options. But she was clueless upon me asking which wine she'd recommend between 2 I was looking at. A decent option would be "let me check with the bartender" or "how about I bring you a sample of each and you decide?" but she just stood there, unsure of what to say, and admitted she didn't know which wine would be better for me. I asked if she would just bring me samples of a couple different wines, and one clearly stood out as the better option based on what I had described I wanted. I had the Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva and it was delicious! Overall, food was A-OK, service was not the best. Might return if I'm in the area, but there are a lot of outstanding Italian restaurants closer to me. read more

Have been here several times over the past few years and happy to say the 'renovation' on this restaurant is lovely. Plus the downsizing of the menu does not disappoint. The restaurant is a little more modern with new wood tile floors and updated seating and tables. It would be easy to walk by this restaurant as its on the second floor of down town building in Wheaton but do go it. Started with the 'daily' arancini balls. Never I had been a fan of arancini balls in general. Usually bland giant balls of fried rice. Not the case here. The fluffy rice with melty cheese, sweet peas and what ever else was in there turned out to be magic balls of flavor. Chicken saltimbocca was on my plate this evening.... partially because I am in love with the side that comes with it....cooked spinach. The chicken was perfectly cooked with a generous layer of prosciutto and cheese and sage. Amazing favors all wrapped up in one bite. Also love grabbing a piece of bread and letting the juices from my plate soak in and noshing in that as well. The salmon special with grilled vegetables drizzled with a balsamic reduction was also amazing!!! Too full for desert but don't skip the rice balls!!!! I was really looking forward to a romantic night at a fancy-ish Italian restaurant with my husband. The steps that you take to get up to the restaurant, which is above Kilwin's chocolate shop, are pretty steep, but they make you feel like you're walking up to a secret Italian restaurant. This added to the romance, as did the lighting of the area where we sat. Slightly dimmed. Our waiter promptly arrived. We ordered arancini as our appetizer, a glass of water for my husband and a glass of Moscato for me. The Moscato was delicious (but it should be for $36/bottle!). Our waiter placed 2 arancini on my plate and 2 on my husband's plate, and then placed the sauce in between us. Nice service (but what if I'd wanted 3 of them!?) ;) The arancini were delicious. Slightly crunchy on the outside, and soft, melty and hot on the inside. Dipping them in the marinara reminded me of mozzarella sticks, but better. There were bits of salami and peas inside, along with rice and melty cheese. So good! I had my eyes on a few menu items but decided on the Cannelloni filled with meatballs. If you've never had them, cannelloni noodles are almost like manicotti - tubes of pasta, filled with ricotta and a meat. For some reason I was expecting thin, soft, homemade cannelloni noodles like Maggiano's makes them - as if every restaurant should have the same recipe! These noodles were so hard that when I tried to cut through with my fork, all of the cheese and small meatballs gushed out of them. They tasted undercooked and very thick. There were a few gristly pieces within the meatballs as well. I tried, but couldn't finish it. My husband ordered the Lobster Cappellacci. He ate every piece on his plate - loved it. I took a bite and the cream sauce was delicious. I wasn't a fan of how fishy the lobster tasted, but he loved it, so that's all that mattered. The night would have been better if I'd not had such an itchy nose. I don't know if there was dust in the area, or mold, or what, but I couldn't stop itching my nose!!! It got better once we left and were in the car driving home. I don't want to say it was the restaurant, but it seemed like it was. I wasn't wowed enough to come back again soon, but I really hate judging a place on one visit. There might be something else on the menu that I'd have enjoyed more, so we may venture back in the future. read more

Went for date night with the wife First time Made reservations, which I highly recommend, and then had a lovely table on the rooftop next to the window with a cute view of the roofs of downtown Wheaton, a nice romantic setting. It was lively and one could feel a comfortable soft breeze flowing through the seating area which is covered with high wooden trellis. The food was amazing, best I have had in a long time. So we like to cook, and are very critical when we go out to eat. For and appetizer we had the Misto Griglia, an assortment of grilled Lobster, squid and Calamari, bedded on Arugula with a light balsamic dressing. It was absolutely a delicious. For the main course I had the Amatriciana Nero Pasta, squid infused black/purple spaghetti with pieces of lobster on it. It an absolute delicious delight to one's taste buds, which I took my time to savor and enjoy the meal every fork at a time. We had a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio which was a delight with the meal. My wife had a large Caesar Salad with grilled shrimp. The service was friendly, attentive and very professional in a warming way. Money well spent and we will definitely be back to try other dishes. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this restaurant earlier! We came here for their NYE dinner with a prix fixe menu. I had been looking at this restaurant for a while prior to going and loved the look of the outside dining on the roof. While we did not dine outside, we were able to sit by the window which offered a great view of Wheaton. However, I ended up being highly disappointed with this restaurant. We made our reservation for relatively late since it was NYE and we were planning on staying up til midnight. That was mistake #1. Since we were in the last crowd everything was picked over. Out of 4 options for an appetizer they had three which wasn't too bad. It was a shame the best option was picked over, but that was to be expected... it happens. I got the Gamberi Francese which was egg battered shrimp in lemon butter sauce. It ended up being pretty good. For our entrees, there were only 2/4 options available and both contained shellfish (luckily we weren't allergic) and one was very spicy (luckily we were early enough to get TWO options). I ended up getting the crab encrusted grouper which was ok, but not worth the prices. The part that irritated us the most was dessert. EVERYTHING was picked over for dessert so they gave us pudding in a champagne glass. It wasn't decadent rich pudding, but instant pudding with cool whip. Did we get a discount for our food?.. no. We paid what everyone else paid which was $79 a person. It would have been better spending that money on one of those bars with a champagne toast and a buffet. I know this wasn't our waiter's fault. He was really good and very apologetic. I feel he genuinely cared about our experience. The ok food with the good service earned them two stars. Even though I didn't try the full menu, I won't be back since moving out of the area. I had such high hopes and was very disappointed. read more
