Was walking about looking for a dessert place still open and good thing this place closes at 10pm There are many flavors which I've tried before but the Thai tea flavor caught my eye, ordering at the counter with staff was simple and it was served pretty quickly too. Really delicious lychee ice cream, and almond cookie ice cream. Really blase, passive aggressive person behind the counter. I mean, how are you ornery if an excited person comes to your ice cream store? Announce all your stipulations BEFORE the person orders, or just answer the questions correctly in the first place. Yeesh. 5 stars for ice cream. 1-2, counter person getting mad for you not knowing all the info bc they give you half -assed answers. Saving you the time/energy: You can get a pint, but only 2 flavors. You may as well do this. Then I forgot ever put it in the wrong order. Passive aggressive anyone?! Yeeesh. Love the mainly asian and unique flavors here! My favorite is the Strawberry lychee. The scoops are a bit pricey at $7, but it is a generous scoop! You could definitely split the single scoop between 2 people. I love the texture and the mix of the flavors, flavors are not too sweet, also which is great! Tried some flavors that were new to me during this visit: 5/5 HK Milk Tea - such strong tea flavor, more than most cafes! 5/5 Strawberry Lychee - super refreshing flavor, and it does taste like the fresh fruits! 5/5 Matcha - perfect amount of matcha flavor with a satisfying slight bitter bite at the end! 4.5/5 Ube Soft Swerve is definitely worth a visit if you are in the mood for ice cream! I was craving matcha ice cream. Since I was in Chinatown, I searched for one in this neighborhood. Originally, I was going to go to Matcha Cafe Maiko on Bowery. However, I was closer to Soft Swerve. I went there instead. Prices are more reasonable. For a cone of matcha, the cost is $9 at Maiko. At Soft Swerve, the cost is $7. I went in and there were two employees. One worker was the cashier. Another worker was making the ice cream. I asked for a twist of black sesame and matcha on a cone. Service was quick. I was in there less than 2 minutes. I highly recommend this shop. I loved the ice cream I ordered. It's close to grand street (B/D train) and M15 bus. read more

5/5 ice cream, hits the spot on a hot day. I got the matcha soft serve and black sesame soft swerve in a waffle cone. They do let you pick two flavors, but they have to stack them as there's no "swirl" function. The black sesame is rich and nutty- definitely a comforting flavor to me. The matcha was refreshing and sweet, definitely not a strong or bitter matcha flavor. My boyfriend got the hard ice cream- cookies and cream and almond cookie. The cookies and cream was solid; he said it wasn't anything to write home about but it's exactly what you'd expect. He loved the almond cookie flavor- very unique, sweet, and had a strong almond flavor. The workers here don't skimp on the scoops like look at those pics! Also be warned, there's not a lot of seating indoors so you might have to sit outside (which I don't love because I'm not a fast eater and my ice cream would start to melt). Maybe get a cup if you're not able to sit inside. read more

This was my first time at Soft Swerve and my first time having ube ice cream. I'd heard about the Asian inspired flavors here and I was curious to try something new. It was also my first time having a chocolate cone. Double the adventure! I ended up looking like a giraffe after because my tongue and teeth were stained with purple and black but it was #worthit. The ube was really good. The purple yam flavor is mild and sweet and subtly nutty. Similar feeling as black sesame but more sweet. The cone with the ube was a nice pairing. It's a little on the pricey side though. I paid over $10 for my cone. Not sure I would ever be a regular here but it was a nice thing to try. There isn't a lot of seating as the store is small so I definitely do recommend getting your ice cream to go. read more

Yeah, this hits the spot. For some strange reason, Chinatown has had its share of ice cream places. Baxk in the 1950's and 60's there was Carvel on Henry Street and then on Mulberry and Canal. Baskin-Robbins and even Haagen Daazs had their turns. The Chinatown Ice Cream Factory survives on Bayard with their not-so-conventional flavors catering to a loyal Asian based clientele, with Lychee and Green Tea staple flavors along side chocolate and vanilla. Now we have this outlet in the heart of Chinatown on Bayard Street. Not just soft serve among their offerings, but you can get hard scooped Vegan Ube along with Cookies and Cream. I am old school sticking with a vanilla soft serve cone. Yeah, that's the ticket. The girls behind the counter were not any older than my socks, but I am not complaining. The shop was decorated with a creative touch. I got the distinct impression these owners infused a bit of the historic neighborhood in the interior design. The ice cream was top notch. read more

What a fun place to grab dessert in Chinatown! They have some interesting and creative ice cream and soft swerve flavors. If you don't know what to get, be sure to ask to sample a flavor or two. I believe their flavors change throughout the seasons so I'll definitely come back to try others. I ended up getting a scoop of the Strawberry Lychee and it was delicious. It was just the right amount of sweetness and the lychee flavor stands out nicely. It was a great balance between strawberries and lychee in my opinion. They also have such a big scoop of ice cream so shout out to them (unfortunately did not get their name). If you're in the area, this is a great dessert spot after dinner. read more

Just writing this review makes me want to go back! I love soft serve, ESPECIALLY asian-inspired flavors. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the flavor options, but I opted for matcha and black sesame (my absolute favorite). The soft serve was so creamy and smooth, and the matcha and black sesame flavors came across really well. They had so many great flavors, it was difficult to choose. The black sesame ube soft serve swirl is something you must try once. It's so nutty and indulgent. I like mine with a little crunch so I topped it with fruity pebbles and toasted coconut. SO GOOD. You can get scoops or soft serve of a ton if unique familiar flavors such as ube, black sesame, hong kong milk tea, and their newest hojicha!!! My top fav is the soft serve hojicha and black sesame. Everything is sweet but not too sweet. Service is really good and the shop has a few seating. Good as a quick meet up spot or a quick grab for dessert. There are also different type of cones and toppings to choose from as well. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Jason L.

Jason Liu and Michael Tsang, best friends and co-founders, met and grew up in Chinatown where they worked and went to school together. In 2016, they were inspired by visits to some of their favorite dessert eateries and wondered why they couldn't find locally. With this thought in mind, Jason and Michael took the idea and began experimenting in the kitchen so that they can one day, make some of their favorite desserts more available to the Chinatown/Lower East Side community. They found excitement in creating ice cream which motivated a turn of direction in their careers; Soft Swerve was founded.

It's a bit overpriced and the teas are not good quality. However, the desserts are delicious. I usually split a slice of basque cheesecake with my friends. The regular and matcha have both been good in my experience. I don't like chocolate cake, so I haven't tried that variety. I wish the pumpkin was available in the smaller size too! I've tried their boba, and it isn't good. The hot teas are okay but not great. They're pretty much just syrup and milk. I would avoid the drinks and just get the desserts! I haven't personally tried the bingsoo, but I've heard good things. The waffle is alright--all in all, come here to recharge and for the basque cheesecake!

I'm constantly on the hunt for unique and exciting ice cream spots, and Soft Swerve definitely did not disappoint! From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place was something special. I went for their signature ube flavor, and let me tell you--it was incredible. The texture was incredibly smooth and creamy, and the flavor was so rich and vibrant, it completely surpassed my expectations. It's hands down one of the best soft serve or frozen yogurt flavors I've ever had. What I love about Soft Swerve is that it's not just about the ice cream; the entire experience is top-notch. The shop itself has such a cozy, inviting vibe--perfect for grabbing a quick treat or even hanging out for a bit. The staff was super chill and really friendly, taking the time to explain their flavors and make recommendations. Plus, the variety of toppings they offer is impressive. I ended up getting a combination of mochi and crushed Oreos, which were the perfect complement to the ube. They have incredible flavors of soft serve... The Ube is a sight to behold it's so pretty! I tried that flavor the first time I came in (how could I resist? it's so insta-worthy) and it was delicious, even though it tasted nothing like what I expected. It's actually kind of hard to explain the flavor, it's almost savory but it's very delicious. The second time I stopped in there was quite a wait, but no biggie! I was determined to try the Green Tea flavor because my co worker was raving about how it's the best matcha soft serve anywhere. She was indeed right, it was really good and I will certainly be back to have it again! The staff is friendly and they seem to move quickly. They keep the counters very clean and it's a good ambience. So why am I only giving 3 stars you may ask? Well, both times I have stopped in, I have been really wanting to try the chocolate waffle cones... and both times they haven't had them in stock! :( If you're going to make something so good you should stock up more of it so that I can try it. Cute little ice cream shop in Chinatown! Atmosphere: tiny but they utilized the space well. Cute decal on the wall- "there's a new fish in town!" Very trendy and bright decor. Not much room to sit so take your ice cream for a walk! :) Staff: lovely! Everyone is super attentive and make sure the orders are taken quickly and made as quick as possible. There was a decent crowd when I went but they got me in and out in 10 mins. Cost: $7 for most but $8-10 for anything special like the flavor I got which was the unicorn. I think the extra dollar was for the super cute ears and horn they added. Remember you're paying for the experience and cuteness factor of your dessert. Flavor: yum! Not too overwhelmingly sweet and the cone was pretty interesting too. Not crunch how you're used to ice cream cones but soft and moist, almost like a cake. Will I be back? Maybe! Located near Manhattan's Chinatown, this small hole in the wall shop sells really unique and delicious ice cream! They only offer 6 flavors but there is a twist, you can swirl some of them together! The lychee and green tea swirl was really good but my favorite flavor was lychee by itself topped with freeze dried strawberries in a regular cone. The service is a hit or miss. During my 3 day trip to NY, I stopped by this place 5 times, and each time I got the same flavor ice cream but the service varied. The worst service I had was when I visited at night and my friend paid an extra $5 for a dusting of freeze dried strawberries while other people got chunks of freeze dried strawberries. I asked if I could be given the same amount as the girls in front of us, their response was that, it would cost us extra. After a little more convincing she unwillingly gave me more without me paying extra. The other 4 times, the service was delightful! read more

Had Ube flavored ice cream with the purple cinnamon cone, and i used to be in heaven! The ice cream itself is brilliant,and coupled with the scrumptious cone, I needed to move back for seconds. Ube is a purple yam that they combo into an tremendous ice cream. If you want going to places that use particular elements to make exceptional food, you clearly ought to do this region while you're traveling the big apple. after I heard that this vicinity had opened up and noticed the menu, I traveled 45 minutes to get there. it is now a spot I ought to visit every time I visit big apple. I also got a sample of the black sesame taste smooth serve and it tastes much like peanut butter. Peanut butter isn't my favorite taste of ice cream, however it's quite cool that you could get that flavor from sesame.they've your conventional Vanilla taste and Matcha, which is the other famous flavor at this ice cream keep. read more

You've probably seen the vibrantly colored soft serves on Instagram, and this is the place where you get them. Soft Swerve is worth stopping by - for the delicious ice cream, as well as the social media cred. We've been here a couple of times. The first time we had the ube soft serve in a chocolate cone with mochi, and the second time we got the ube and coconut swirl with coconut flakes (a.k.a. the"Jersey City"). The ube is quite good here, with a nice pronounced flavor and not too sweet. The coconut swirl worked well with it and the coconut toppings in the Jersey City were quite enjoyable. The lychee and matcha flavors looked interesting as well. They offer a free waffle chip on checkin to make your ice cream look better on social media, though they were out of these the last time we went. I'll be back to try their other flavors soon. read more

After a great dinner, me and friends had a dessert craving and what better way to satiate it than ice cream on a cold Sunday evening. We found Soft Swerve through a Google search and decided to walk the mile that lay between us and the deliciousness of dessert. On reaching there, we were surprised to find the number of people we did. We ordered the purple yam ice cream in a black chocolate cone with mochi topping (and chocolate sauce on one and fruity pebbles on another). The texture of the ice cream is superb and the cone is crunchy and great. Mochi add another layer of texture to it (and the way it's delicately placed on the ice cream is interesting to watch). Will definitely go there again and highly recommend it! read more

Ube love!! I love ice cream and this has a very unique flavor! The first time I came here, they actually ran out of ube which was the whole reason I came here in the first place. I ended up getting the matcha flavor and it is hands down, the tastiest matcha ice cream I have ever had. I'm very picky when it comes to matcha and this was amazing. The second time I came, they had ube (yes!!) so I tried it and it taste like a creamy taro and vanilla mix. Very unique. I enjoyed it a lot that I came back a few days later because I was around the area. There is a line however when you come here so be prepared to wait if there's a long queue. read more

I would give it 5 Stars but the large size is really not a large serving because they coil their ice cream onto the cone leaving a hollow center. It's sort of like those giant chocolate Easter bunnies you see at Rite Aid thinking they are solid chocolate bunnies only to be disappointed to find out they're hollow inside. The Ube flavor is mild which I like...if you want a more intense Ube flavor go to any Filipino grocery and pick up a half gallon of Ube ice cream in the freezer section. I visited soft Swerve spot after having dinner and there were many people as I expected. I ordered the lychee and peach shaved ice. The flavors were fairly subtle but the texture was really interesting and unique. The toppings were placed generously and added an additional pop to the already delectable dessert. The owner and worker are really friendly! They are more than happy to assist you on how to create your own shaved ice or suggest you on their famous flavors, and will definitely want your feedback because they're fairly new. read more

def overhyped on instagram... First of all, hate walking through dirty Chinatown to get there - so painful to walk through those smelly fish markets and dirty buildings in the summer ugh. Huge ice cream enough to share with another person. My bf got sesame one and it was melting immediately, couldn't even take a picture because it was falling off of the cone and dripping everywhere when I was paying! And they didn't even bother to check the machine... Def overpriced. Can't believe two ice-cream costs $16 lol read more

Stood in line for a good 30 minutes. People really do pay attention to foods featured online. That's the way I found out. Got the ube in a chocolate cone. Flavor was good, for both the soft serve and the cone. But what really stood out was how vibrant the colors were. I think the presentation made me eat it slower because it seemed like a waste to just devour it like I would a normal cone. Not sure if I'd return, only because of the long line and I already ate it. This is the place I visit when craving for soft swerve. My favorite is their ube soft in cone. It's simply the best. Their texture is so perfect, not too sweet and authentic flavor using the best ingredients I bet. This time, I have to try some of their toppings and didn't disappoint. I love the mallows on top with chocolate fudge. Everything here is delicious. Even if you try the not so common flavors, it's still good. Coming back for more for sure read more

We arrived at 2pm and went straight for my favorite that it is Matcha ice cream. The majority of ice creams are good I tasted and it is good place for sweet afternoon. Although, it is in middle of the downtown between Chinatown and little Italy, I found the place in a good location. A friend and I came in on a Friday and it was too crowded. Now we know why this place is being doomed because they have very good soft served ice cream. They also have an upstairs seating area, so this place is good for larger groups too. The place was immediately cleaned by the stuff seemed like it opened fairly recently so you don't get the massive hoards of people. read more

It's a healthier than other options but if you want real ice cream this isn't the place to go. It's something you should try just for the hype of it and it's pretty don't get me wrong.
