Sofia's Mystical Christmas is a Christmas store that's open all year. I was here on September 2nd, and it was filled with shoppers. This store is filled with so many beautiful Christmas ornaments, and they are categorized. You've got the career ornaments. Every single type of career is represented. You've got the athlete ornaments. There's an entire wall of pet ornaments. They are all handcrafted and fragile. It is so much fun browsing through this huge assortment of beautiful ornaments. They also have some nutcrackers, in a variety of sizes that are all dressed from pastel pink to traditional. If you can think of it, you just may find it here. They also had a few Christmas books for children. Menorahs. Nutcrackers (some are very sparkly). Gnomes. And a few 'autumn' themed items toward the far end of the store. You know, just for a bit of diversity. The store is huge. Plan to spend a lot of time. Staff were very friendly. Visiting Sophia's Mystical Christmas has been a annual tradition for my sister, my mother(who is 90 yrs.old ) a friend of ours and I. The Old World Ornaments they carry are genuinely beautiful and their inventory selection is truly amazing. We have always been loyal, good customers. On this trip, our party collectively spent over $650 on  Old World Ornaments--a testament to how much we value the items we purchase there. ( I would also like to mention that I put $2.00 in each "TIP" jar) Despite spending a substantial amount, the customer service we received was utterly appalling and has led me to decide I can NEVER support this establishment again. After checking out, I noticed my sister had received individual boxes for her ornaments, which would significantly help me wrap the gifts for my mother's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I approached the counter (which was not busy) and simply asked the two middle-aged women working if I could also have boxes for my ornaments. Their reaction was completely outrageous. They treated this simple request as a major imposition. They huffed, rolled their eyes, and began complaining loudly that we should have asked earlier. They grudgingly began unwrapping each ornament to ensure the "correct" boxes were used, creating an unnecessary scene and making us feel like a massive inconvenience. The final straw: as they unwrapped one, they complained it had "too much tissue" and then proceeded to take the tissue wrapping back. This was not just a transaction; it was a special annual outing with my elderly mother. There is no excuse for this level of rudeness, attitude, and unprofessional behavior toward any customer, let alone one who just spent hundreds of dollars. (The entire magical atmosphere of the visit was destroyed by their stunning lack of grace. It appears most places that sell these specific Old World Ornaments automatically box them. For Sophia's to treat a simple request for appropriate packaging with such disdain, and even nickel-and-dime us by reclaiming basic tissue wrapping, especially after our level of spending, is a complete failure of customer service.  Save your money and your tradition, and take it to an establishment that values its patrons. read more

When visiting Mystic, CT, I had to go back the the village because it is a MUST when you're in the area. I found Sofia's Mystical Christmas and was curious...after all, it's kind of nice to escape reality and go to a holiday shop. This store is MASSIVE and cheerful! There are so many ornaments to find! I actually did grab a few ornaments to bring home (a rubber chicken and The Nightmare Before Christmas VHS box). Even if you're not a big Christmas person, you'll enjoy this shop. My husband dreads the holiday but he went off on his own, intrigued by the enormity of the store. There's something for everyone. Pop culture, animals, food, hobbies, nautical, etc etc etc. So much fun! read more

A very fun and solid Christmas store in Olde Mistick Village. This was the first store we visited in the village and it was very cute. I've been collecting Christmas ornaments from my travels for the past 6 years now and they have an excellent collection of Mystic-themed ornaments. The prices are very fair and I now have a new ornament to add to the tree this winter. They have a bunch of non-Mystic themed ornaments too and other Christmas decorations in general. Um HOW DOES SOFIA'S ONLY HAVE A FOUR STAR RATING!?!!??!!? How can you NOT love a Christmas shop? Where everything is just Christmas? I'm obsessed. No, like I spent almost $200 on unique ornaments, it's a real problem. They have some of the coolest foodie ornaments I've ever seen, and naturally I had to buy a whole bunch of them. If you're a peacock ornament collector like I am, they also have a whole bunch of unique ornaments and tree toppers, which I've been searching for the perfect tree topper for years for my peacock tree and finally found it here. Some of the ornaments ARE a bit pricey, but totally worth it in the end. And if you don't like ornaments, then you're just a Grinch. read more

This store is the store you will find (insert name of Christmas obsessed relative here) in all their glory! This is the kind of store that will be hard to leave without said family member, because you expect Santa to pop out at any given moment. Christmas threw up in Sofia's Mystical Christmas. There are ornaments that you possibly can't even imagine or have ever seen before - big, small, miniature, glass, made from seashells, and many, many more variations! If you need to get something for that difficult person to shop for around the holidays, they will surely be taken are of in here. The store luckily has wide aisles so you don't have to worry about being a bull in a china shop. Everything in here is made with the utmost care, so a word of caution to parents with touchy kiddies. This is by far the BEST Christmas ornament store I have ever been too. They have just about every type of ornament imaginable. I went in for a souvenir and had to regain my self control. Arrived at the store with my mother and sister, was not greeted and then when I needed assistance they were rude and condescending. There was an older worker there who however did have some manners and when she needed assistance trying to find an ornament for me one of the young children (cashiers) who worked there kept screaming across the store what what do you want . I've been to Mystic so many times, but have only been in here once or twice.. but since Christmas is less than 2 weeks away (gotta start shopping for others now!) I decided to go in and browse while I was at the Village yesterday. If you can't find what you're looking for in this store, it doesn't exist! They have everything.. the store is bigger than I remember (they may have expanded or moved since I went in last) and the variety is awesome.. I didn't buy anything so I can't judge customer service, but the 2 girls that were working seemed friendly and helpful. They have a wonderful variety of pet ornaments too, which is what I went in for.. be warned, this isn't a discount store by any means.. but the quality is there and any ornaments you buy will last a long time.. and sometimes its nice to treat yourself. While this store has a good variety of ornaments and was fun to explore, I had a horrible experience checking out. I went up to the counter and the girls at the counter have no manners.
