I love this place! I love everything about it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cute inside and located in the neighborhood positioned to cater to locals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is top notch. The owner is at every table and visiting with the many regulars. Now for the food... Delicioso! They serve homemade focaccia bread with olive oil as a free starter. No mater what you order it's the best version of that dish you'll ever eat. This time we had soup for appetizer and we shared the 4 meatball plate each covered with a different delicious sauce. The pesto cream sauce was my favorite and the meatballs were so tender I think my eyes rolled back in my head a little. My entree was spicy shrimp and it was very very good. I brought home another whole meal's worth of leftovers. Oh! And, I must mention their wine collection because they'll help you find the best one for your dinner. Y'all it's such a great place! Go eat at Sofia's regularly!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Sofia's Italiano is a quaint and fancy restaurant. The interior definitely gives you an Italian family vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their prices on the menu are surprisingly decent. Sofia's Italiano has a vast selection of wine and there's a cocktail bar too. Once you're seated, you're served fresh bread with a spicy herb sauce on the side. Sofia's Italian cuisine was superb. Especially some of their signature dishes, like the Jalapeno Chicken Linguini. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's AC, yet they have extra fans for some reason?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are wonderful, always checking on us and refilling our drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of space for large parties. Sofia's Italiano even has a an area for private parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've noticed that in past reviews Sofia's Italiano has had a gnat problem. When I was there. there WAS at least one gnat around my table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Maybe the staff are finally dealing with the infestation? I hope so. There was also some inconsistences with mine and my companion's orders. The chicken in the Creamy Chicken Sofia was dry and the soup my friend ordered, Zuppa di Fagioli had little broth.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The dinner and atmosphere was okay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The dessert was great. The service by Kara J. was fabulous. We may be back again. Not sure yet.

We waited at the table for about 10 minutes without anyone ever coming to the table to greet us or take an order.

By the time we got there, I already knew exactly what I wanted--the Jumbo Stuffed Shells. We got seated, ordered drinks, placed our order, and about 10 minutes later our waiter came back to tell me they were out of jumbo shells. Now, I get it. It's just food. Restaurants run out of things. They had plenty of other items on the menu, and I ended up ordering something else. But this is a review of my experience, and for that alone, it deserves at least a one-star deduction. Maybe two, but I'm being generous. Now for the second deduction. They bring you a small dish of grated cheese to put on your food. We're sitting there eating when an employee walks up, puts her hand on the dish, and asks if we're done with it because, "We're in a recession." I guess it was supposed to be funny, like they couldn't afford more cheese dishes. I could have told her we weren't finished with it, and I'm sure she would have put it back. For goodness sake, I didn't want to deprive the next table of their cheese. So she grabbed it and off she went. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was just...odd. The restaurant wasn't even that busy, but the whole experience felt rushed. We spent time getting dressed, drove 30 minutes to get there, and from the time we sat down until we walked out the door was only about 45 minutes. If I wanted fast food, that would've been perfect. But for a birthday dinner, I was hoping to relax a little and enjoy the evening. Oh, I almost forgot! When we walked in, the hostess asked if we'd like a booth or a table. I asked for a table because my back starts hurting if I sit in a booth very long. As we started walking, another employee abruptly and rudely said, "Put them at table..."--I don't remember the number--but it happened to be all the way in the back corner. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner." Well look at there, me and the cheese thief could go do comedian night at the Blue Oyster. Ok ok!! Now for the good part. Our waiter was great. Friendly, attentive, and probably the best part of the experience. The food was very good, and the portions were generous. Overall, I'd give Maggiano's 3 out of 5 stars. Good food, a great waiter, and generous portions were overshadowed by being told the entrée I came for wasn't available, a couple of awkward service moments, and feeling like we were being rushed through what was supposed to be a relaxing evening. Would I go back? Maybe. But there are quite a few other Italian restaurants I'd probably try before giving Maggiano's another shot.

We sat by the wine cellar/private dining room and were graciously served by Amanda. Our table ordered the goddess pasta (you can add shrimp or chicken) and the elote ravioli (as suggested by Amanda). After checking out pics of elote ravioli on yelp, I knew what I would order. I considered adding the grilled watermelon salad, I'll save that for next time! The elote ravioli's presentation was beautiful!! Check out the flowers and the garnishes in the pic. The flavors were a delightful mix of spice and richness (not too much of either IMO). Amanda made a great traditional margarita for my mom (sweet price at $10). Wine by glass and bottles are priced well. Dessert was interesting; we ordered the smoked bread pudding. It usually sells out quickly, so glad we got to try it. I am unsure if I would order that one again (especially bc I want to try the other ones), but it was really interesting and made me think of smoking foods differently.

There is an anomaly of Italian history and NASA history, especially upon entering the restaurant. A group of us went during lunchtime. I had Baked Lasagna and a humongous Ceasar Salad. When we walked in, we were greeted and ask if we were picking up or staying, I answered we were staying. We were taken to a nice table, which was cleaned by the hostess, and seated. We got our menus and water, then it went downhill from there. We watched tables being served and nice conversations between wait staff and customers. Sadly, after more than 5 minutes, no server approached our table. The menus were down and we were ready to order. And... no one came over. We were passed by several times and the table next to us was checked on, but not us. So we didn't get to try anything as we took the hint that we were not important and left. Hopefully we misunderstood the idea of service here and didn't wait long enough. But more than 5 minutes with no hint of service was more than enough for us to wait. Good luck Frenchies, I'm sure your regulars will keep you moving along.

We were also informed that they stop serving food at 9:30, so pretty much to order soon. Needless to say I was so disappointed and ready to leave. But it being so late, sucked it up. Came here for the sword fish that apparently they no longer serve as their menu had changed. After ordering, I did voice my concerns about the loud music and thankfully they changed it. I was able to enjoy my late night dinner with my husband. We ordered the Kataifi shrimp as an appetizer. They were medium sized served with a spicy tangy sauce. They were very delicious. For my main course I ordered the American red snapper which was also a unique dish as it was served on a corn husk with rice and beans. 3 whole crawfish, a corn and cold salsa verde sauce on the side of the dish. All was delicious except they should have served the salsa verde sauce warm instead of cold. It was still a delicious dish. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak which was also delicious. It was served with a side of green beans, puréed potatoes with a foie gras gravy. They have a descent drink menu. I ordered the Friendswood 75 which was a little too sweet for my liking and my husband ordered the Gin and tonic. They didn't have Sapphire so he opted for the Tanqueray.
