We were skeptical about this business just because the name is kinda goofy -- but we were blown away by the service and quality we got here, at a lower price point than retail. After our experience, I can't imagine buying a couch from a chain vendor again. We were initially eyeing sofas from Restoration Hardware, but they were very expensive, and we saw that other folks complained about poor quality, delivery times, and customer support. We came in to Sofa U Love after seeing one couch on Craigslist that looked roughly similar to what we were after. We were helped out by Benny from our initial walk-in. While we had looked at other "custom" sofa places, you were mostly looking at set models with some options around fabric. Sofa U Love was able to make a mock of the RH couch we were eyeing, then let us customize everything down to the arm width, to the stitching on the cushions. Benny and the team were super communicative as it was built out, and I appreciated their design insight. Our couch came in substantially less expensive than the couch we had been eyeing, built with solid wood (vs MDF), with faster delivery time, and made in California! The service! The service! The service! I can't say enough about the service. I walked in and saw a pleasant gentleman sitting at a desk and working. He greeted me and asked me if I had any questions as I wandered around looking at the couches. He did not bother me. He did not follow me around the store. He did not try to sell me anything until I started asking him questions and even then, he was not your average sales person. Not sleazy not pushy and awesome through and through! Before I go further I should note that this was in November 2021. In May 2021 I had ordered a couch from Pottery Barn. Sometime around August they canceled my order on me without letting me know and then proceeded to place another order for me. By this time in November, it has been six months since I ordered my Pottery Barn couch with no word on its whereabouts. So long story short... I found a couch I liked. I wasn't sure what to do with this whole Pottery Barn situation so I asked Rob* if I could take a swatch of fabric home which she gladly gave me, and check Pottery Barns cancellation policy. (surprise... They don't accept cancellations until the couch shows up at the loading dock.) I decided to take my chances. I came back the next day and Rob was still there. We ordered the couch and I believe it was there before Christmas. So about 5 to 6 weeks was their turnaround time. Obviously nobody can promise that these days but somehow a miracle happened. I'm giving Rob* all of the credit whether or not he was the one that waved a magic wand or not. As for the couch... It is definitely dog approved (I have three). Sometimes the brindle one in the photo climbs on top of the pillows and I have to beat the pillows back into shape after. A couple of good whacks and they're back in normal shape. I have covers on the couch just so I don't deal with dog hair as much. But all I really do to get the hair off is use a handheld vacuum. I swear I also thoroughly enjoy it. Super comfy, nappable, I wouldn't change a think about it. Oh, and it's now February 2022 and the Pottery Barn couch I ordered in May 2021 is still "on the way." read more

Best place to get custom furniture made!!! My husband and I were starting a home from scratch and wanted to buy beautiful quality pieces made in America. Yelp led me to Sofa U Love. I walked into the store and immediately fell in love with the variety and options. So many choices!! And the sales associate Angela was so helpful. She really understood my vision and was a huge help. After a few trips and design consults. As a I started to piece together other furniture Angela and I worked on narrowing down my order. I ended up ordering a LOT of custom made pieces. I really wanted a statement piece accent chair in bright blue so I ordered a 'true love seat' made to fit my husband and I perfectly. With legs to match the sectional we had just purchased at Room and Board. It was gorgeous! Beyond perfect! After shopping everywhere we decided to order 6 custom height dining chairs with nail heads and extra cushioning. I had the back made to a lower height so that people could easily look back and feel comfy. The height was perfect and their work on the nail heads was impeccable. The first material I ordered was not good on the chairs. As soon as I let Vic with the warehouse know he informed the SF showroom and they had more appropriate materials waiting for me to review. What amazing customer service!!!! Not to mention the chairs turned out perfect!!!! I get so many compliments on how comfy they are. We ordered a gorgeous round fuchsia ottoman with a removable top and inside storage (perfect for my summer sandals) with ebony legs in a design that perfectly matched my dressing room vanity. Also, with beautiful nail head details. I was on the prowl for a leather storage bench to put at the foot of our bed that wouldn't take away from the gorgeous look of our Restoration Hardware French empire bed. Angela helped me pick out the most perfect measurements to highlight the detail of the bed and make sure the bench was a perfect fit. The two look like they were meant to be together! Pillows are my latest obsession!! I ordered a lot of them and I will definitely order more. The selection is amazing!!!!!! My only regret is ordering a down blend. I got my sofa here a couple months ago and I love it! The great thing is every sofa is made to order in their LA factory and it only took 3 weeks. So I got it, as promised, in time for Christmas entertaining. As I said made to order so I got the exact dimensions and firmness I wanted. They even encase the foam pads with down so I got firm foam with a nice cushy feel. It was more than I planned to spend but they worked with me to find something I could afford. They also have a non-toxic scotch guard type protection. Super friendly and helpful staff. They are even mailing swatches to my house for the arm chair I plan to buy from them. My new custom sofa arrived yesterday - all my friends and I (and my dog) agree that it is amazing! I purchased it from Stephanie about 8 weeks ago. She was enthusiastically helpful. Even let me take home the in-store swatches to check color coordination at home. She spent a lot of time with me and I felt well taken care of. Vik at the manufacture site in LA was also very attentive. He called, emailed, and even mailed samples of the fabric with stitching color options to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. The delivery men were super courteous as well. Very careful bringing it in. Even gave me tips on how to take it apart in case I want to move it. They were meticulous and detailed. I had (foolishly) ordered a soda online previously and it was terribly constructed and uncomfortable. I decided to pay extra and get exactly what I wanted. I saw the perfect sofa for my den at a nationwide chain of furniture stores but HATED the fabric and color options. I brought the spec sheet to Sofas You Love and they were able to make a similar sofa with fabric that I LOVE and cushions that were firmer on the back and softer on the bottom. After searching for new sofas for years, I finally decided to stop into the Sofa U Love shop right in my neighborhood. I'm so glad I did. The store offers a great selection of classic, basic sofa styles, a wide selection of fabrics, excellent workmanship, and most importantly, outstanding customer service -- thanks to the very friendly and knowledgeable manager, Rob. I had been debating whether to recover an existing sofa bed and make a matching sofa to replace two ancient, worn out sofas in my living room. Rob assured me that this was something they could definitely do, and the cost was surprisingly reasonable. Rob showed incredible amounts of patience, as I made repeated trips to the store to agonize over fabric choices. He offered sound advice and was even nice enough to loan me his samples books to take home -- which was extremely helpful. Sofa U Love does all of their custom work at their LA location. At first, this concerned me a bit. I questioned how the process would work; in my case, I had to first ship my existing sofa bed to LA, then wait for the recovered sofa bed and new sofa to both be shipped back to SF. However, I needn't have worried. The whole pickup/delivery process was seamless, I was kept informed at every step along the way, and the sofas were completed and shipped in a relatively short period of time. After searching for months trying to find a sofa in a style and size that would fit our cozy SF living room, we finally decided to bite the bullet and have one custom made. Looking back, Sofa-U-Love should have been our first stop. Luckily, right after entering the store we found a floor model sofa that was VERY close to what we wanted, but with a few key differences. We worked with Vic and he assured us all the tweaks we wanted to make were no problem. He even steered us away from the (more expensive!) linen fabric we were looking at and suggested a more durable and less expensive fabric that worked just as well. We were quoted a 2-4 week delivery period and the sofa arrived right at the end of the 4 week mark. No biggie - it was still pretty quick compared to some other custom build places. Communication in the interim was good too, with Vic sending us pictures of the completed sofa before putting it on the truck for delivery. That was definitely a big plus in my book. All in all, the sofa turned out beautifully and we couldn't be happier! The materials and construction seem solid, and it turned out exactly like we wanted it to - all for a reasonable price. Ok, if you need custom cushions, go here and ask for Rob! I am helping my hubby redecorate his office, so I started with a Klimt canvas...I needed very specific fabric to recover some cushions that would match the artwork. Rob was SO helpful and first explained to me what type of fabric I should stick with due to durability, then helped me leaf through some fabric swatches. He took the time to go through the photos I had of the office to help me match the fabric with the existing lamps, decor, and most importantly, the new canvas art! We found a gorgeous seat and back cushion combo. They are in production now, but I am so excited about them. This review is a bit overdue. We ordered a large custom L-shape sofa and window seat cushions in Oct 2015. We chose our fabrics and worked with sales staff to determine sizing and details. We did have a hiccup when they tried to deliver the sofa. Sales had told us that the shop couldn't make the long piece in one piece, so we would end up with three pieces that would be attached at the bottom. However, when they delivered, the long piece was one piece instead of two...and wouldn't fit in the house. We were able to quickly get in touch with Vik at the shop, who, after a bit of back and forth with sales, was able to offer to fix the piece without additional charge for either the work or shipping. In the end, we received a beautiful sofa (after some additional wait while they reworked the piece) and came away with a positive experience with customer service. After checking out other stores for my sofa I went here and I luv Rob. He spent so much time with me going through samples and I didn't feel rushed or like he giving me a sell job. I like the idea that the the sofas use slip covers so I can change the color or design if I want. I got my sofa and it looks great, you can't tell that they're covers at all. We've since gone back and had our headboards and window seats from them . My only thing is that I had to keep calling the transportation company that they use. Amazing experience a couple weeks ago here. We were in a mad dash to get extra seating for our Super Bowl party but didn't want to sacrifice our style and high standards for furniture. We walked into Sofa U Love at around 10:30 in the morning and found two amazing floor samples in fantastic condition for reasonable prices- a love seat and chair. The man working that day, Rob, was super helpful and didn't bat an eye when we said we wanted to get the furniture back to our place by 3pm before the game started. He mentioned that some people had used task rabbit to move the furniture, and with that awesome advise we got two gorgeous new pieces and had them in our house just as our friends starting coming over. Rob gave us all the details in terms of the furniture designers, colors, fabrics, etc. so I'm sure we'll be back soon to fill in our collection. Great furniture and great service. I absolutely love this place. Rob is amazing. I needed two couches - a sleeper sofa and a living room couch and he sat with me patiently testing out couches and talking colors. Not once did he pressure me to make a purchase or make me feel like my budget was unreasonable - instead he wanted to make sure I was happy and found the couch of my dreams even if it meant he had to work the pricing for me. The quality of the couches are great. Also, why would you pay hiked up margins on big name stores when you can get a custom couch created (to the size and color) and get it for a fraction of the price and created 1/3 of the time faster. This review is for Benny, an absolute gem! My husband and i have been searching for a couch for quite a few months and had trouble finding something that we both love. (He is very into modern and practical and I love the vintage look). After reading multiple amazing reviews on this place I decided to check it out while my husband was out of town. Little did I know I would be spending the next hour and a half with Benny discussing what I thought would be a good "compromise" of what both my husband and I were looking for. With just a few guidelines I feel like Benny knew EXACTLY what I wanted and was able to envision my style even more than I could. He let me come up with my own decisions and conclusions by guiding me in the right direction, but never feet over powering. Lets just say this man has quite the taste and talent. As much as I wanted to pull the trigger right then and there I knew what a big statement piece it was and wanted my husband to feel like a part of the decision. That being said, Benny was so confident in his product, I never felt pressured to purchase something immediately and he even told me to take my time and come back with my husband when we were ready and could come together. It has been the best feeling I have had making such a large purchase and already could not wait to come back. He was not only beyond knowledgable and kind, but also, patient and never made me feel rushed during the very long time I ended up spending in the store. Fast forward to a day ago, where I went back to the store again, but this time with my husband. Miraculously, we both agreed on every little detail we wanted for our sofa. (This never happens!) I realized that this is because not only can you tailor the height of the couch, depth of the couch, legs, stitching, fabric and or leather to make it exactly what YOU want! Benny once again listening to everything we wanted and even made us look at the color of leather in multiple different types of lighting to allow us to feel 100% confident in what we were buying. He gave us gentle recommendations on what would look best but again really left the ball on our court. This is something that takes innate talent and is far and few between. All in all, I can confidently say that Benny is beyond the best stylist, sales man and person I have ever been fortunate enough to work with. He keeps it classy, honest, and is so genuine. I cannot speak highly enough of him and am looking forward to seeing our new statement piece and making more purchases in the future! read more

I just received my new slip cover for my Kim sofa and it's perfect! This is even more impressive when you consider I am in Kansas City and the only thing they had to go on were pictures and measurements from me through emails and phone calls. My original sofa is from 2000, I wanted a new slipcover after 15 years. Angela sent me swatches and got the order started, then Rick called once for a measurement clarification before sending me the slipcover. I had a unique requirement - I needed a sofa that would fit through a restricted doorway to be placed in a yacht's salon. Having searched the internet for something attractive that was the right size and had the right 'minimum door width' was time consuming and ultimately fruitless. I went to Sofa U Love and shared all my requirements (color, size, delivery) with Rob who spent a lot of time with me helping me identify fabric options. There were several and in all price ranges. I ordered the sofa in the expectation of 6-8 weeks delivery time and was surprised to find it done early. The delivery was discussed with the delivery company and arranged for an hour window on a specific day so that we could gain access to the marina parking lot and the actual pier/slip. The delivery was flawless. If you need to control the actual size of something to fit your space, then this is the way to go. Pricing compares favorably with department store pricing, but there is a far wider choice of fabrics and you can control what you spend. it's a little hard to park at the Union Street store, but not impossible and the other locations have parking.
