With my new kidney, I had to get my own sides since I can't really share food with my friends. I got some chicken tortilla soup and some brussel sprouts. The nachos did look amazing but I knew it we going to be too much food for me. Soup was full of chicken, corn and tortillas. The broth was rich and savory. It could have been a tad warmer but it was still delicious. My brussel sprouts were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. I love the sweet and savory glaze that we used! Every bite was delicious. Service was great tonight. Our server did a great job making sure our drinks were never dry. The atmosphere here is always on point. The food was fantastic as always. I look forward to coming back for another round of happy hour soon!

have never in my life experienced such bizarrely rude behavior from a serving staff…read more I met up with a group of friends earlier tonight who had been already been waiting about 20 minutes by the time I got there. we were supposed to get a table within five minutes, according to the waitlist, but ended up waiting another 20-30 minutes afterward. Despite us waiting at the front host table that whole time, not once did a single member of staff ask if we been seen, ask how long we were waiting, provide an update, etc. etc. Instead, they bused tables together, and did random tasks. Most confusingly, they did all this without once even looking at us, which was obviously because they were avoiding eye contact so they didn't have to address us. It was like being in the twilight zone. Not to mention, they had three, maybe four tables to deal with. They were not packed, they were not even particularly busy, but the staff could not be bothered to even acknowledge the fact we were there. We really just wanted a drink, not a big dinner, so I sat down at the closest chair until a server came and brought a couple of us a couple waters and a menu and asked if we had been seated. I said no, we've just been next-up for an hour and don't know why no one has talked to us yet. The server then went to ask the host about it, then came back, grabbed the menu and THE WATER I WAS DRINKING OUT OF MY HAND, then said "well you just decided to sit down at a table without being seated." We left and had a positively lovely experience at the Funky Taco next door. However I will absolutely not be recommending anyone try the Matador for a nice dinner out ever again.

The toast on my Croque Madame was incredible. I added a little strawberry jam to each bite and just a touch of Tapatío for an extra kick--absolutely perfect. I also may have stolen a few bites of my wife's hot Chicken & Waffles with lavender honey ice cream and maple syrup... and wow. I couldn't get enough of that either. We were here celebrating our 20-year anniversary and were thrilled to discover this gem tucked away in the Grove Hotel. I'm honestly shocked by how amazing the food is. The service was top notch--John B. took incredible care of us. We even had the chance to compliment the chef and meet Ryan, who made my Croque Madame. Hearing him talk about his experience, his love for cooking, and seeing the precision and care he puts into his work made the meal even more special. It truly shows in every bite. Because of the service, the experience, and the expertise behind the food, we happily left a generous tip--it was well deserved. And for only $18-$20 per entrée, the value is unbelievable. I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu... although I'm the type of guy who, once I find something I love, it's hard not to order it again. So many great choices--what do I do?! Absolutely loved our experience here. Highly recommend.

We considered meeting family at the Trillium tonight because they happen to be staying at the Grove Hotel . While we waited for thier arrival, we looked at the menu by the entrance . The restaurant was empty, except for two waitresses heavily engrossed in a conversation, one of them , facing us. We then waited by the reservation desk and looked over in the direction of the staff who continued talking . We thought maybe at some point a hostess, or the manager would approach us . We had a quick question as to how late they were serving , we were there around 8:00pm. After no acknowledgement from anyone, and after ackwardly looking around, my wife walked in the direction of the waitresses . One of them broke off to greet us , but we sensed possibly that we may be inconvenienceing her . We asked how late they were open , and the response was appropriate, but slightly distant . My brief thought in that moment was we can all at times have a off day, but it's important to remember that first positive impressions can set the tone for a good customer experience. I have eaten here several times and have enjoyed the food and service , ...I don't expect anyone to stand at the ready for my entrance, however if you want to finish your story with your co-worker , please just remember that customers bring very little expectation other then to just feel welcome when they cross the threshold. Hope this visit was just bad timing on our part .

The views are stunning and the rooftop patio/outdoor dining space provides panoramic views of the mountains and surrounding city. Right now, it seems to function as almost a ghost kitchen? They have tables and do welcome dining in but it was empty while we were there (lunchtime on a Friday). From the way they're set up, it seemed like they were doing more takeout than dine in. I got a salmon caesar, which was absolutely delicious. The salmon was fresh as can be (the chef explained the fish had barely been delivered when he cut/grilled my filet--so super fresh!). The caesar salad dressing was perfectly creamy and the lettuce was crisp. I loved it. The service was friendly and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I would so love to see them invest in their dining space and rooftop patio to create a truly warm and welcoming space. The views are second to none in the city and would make a stunning backdrop to a truly inspired space.

We walked in around 7 pm and it seems like a slow night. So I expect everything should be good but it wasn't. We ordered food and drinks and start right off with food even came earlier than drink. Obviously server doesn't care. The food came , salad and pasta all together and the ravioli was not even warm. The pasta itself was decent, but nothing memorable. Flavors felt a bit flat, and for the price point, I was expecting something more refined or at least more balanced. Service was also inconsistent. Our server seemed friendly but stretched thin, It didn't feel like anyone was really paying attention to the table. They seems to be paying attention on the phone than the table. And they seem really rush us out when they were only 8.30 pm when they close at 10 pm not sure why they keep asking if we need a box and put down the check right after we got our food. Overall, not a terrible experience, but definitely not one I'd rush back for, especially with other great dining options in Boise.

We were never rushed and refills were automatic. You may enjoy breakfast and lunch items if you are still seated at the turnover. Should be similar lunch to dinner. Nice they offer different speciality items daily. No doggie bags, obviously for a buffet, but feel free to grab a bag of fresh cotton candy! . Meh - Location is convenient with adequate parking. Food was correct temperatures, cleanly presented, slightly under seasoned, but nothing outstanding in flavor. Note; they offer taco bar, salad bar & full dessert bar at breakfast. No manager seen, but no need either. . Cons - Dining area outdated. Definitely needs a new decor. Silverware and plates are also low quality. They charge for coffee & ice tea, but milk & juices are free. Seems petty. No lemon offered with ice tea. Yes, they have lemon, but after receiving the ice tea from the staff, you have to get the lemon yourself. Odd, because for coffee, they bring the creamer and sugar to the table. My used/empty plate was removed with my silverware and although clean plates were provided, I had to ask for replacement silverware, by finding my server elsewhere in the dining room. I was disappointed at the lack of variety for fresh fruit offered. . Verdict - Better than I had expected, pricier than anticipated, but they do offer various discounts. There is room for improvements, but I would feel comfortable returning. Remember, even though it is self-service, the service staff still do a lot for you and thus deserve to be tipped.

And with the view by the patio, how can it not be the most perfect setting to enjoy my birthday dinner. We just stuck with water since it was on the warmer side today. We just went straight in for dinner. As much as the appetizers sounded lovely, I was ready for the main event. So for dinner tonight I ordered the charboiled salmon with seasonal veggies in place of the salad. My salmon was plated beautifully with nice char marks on it. The veggies were a variety of squash and were sautéed nicely. And you can tell visually that they were seasoned nicely with spices and herbs. I dug right into my salmon. My first couple bites were delicious. I did spread some of the sun dried tomato butter on my salmon. The butter was fantastic! It added a nice flavor element to the salmon. After I ate about a a fourth of my salmon, I noticed that it was not cooked all the way through in the middle. With my new kidney, I can't have rare or undercooked fish. My immune system can't handle a parasite if the fish were to potentially contain any. I shouldn't have assumed that it was going to be cooked all the way since our server didn't ask how well I wanted it cooked. I did have to send it back and have another one remade. While my new fish was being prepared, my server gave me a small salad plate to transfer my veggies to. I got to work on them so I wasn't staring at my family eat. The veggies were cooked perfectly. They weren't overly soft or still raw. It had a nice bite to them while still being tender. Unfortunately, they were overly seasoned and was on the saltier side. I was hungry so I polished them off. But I did have to drink a good amount of water to help with the saltiness. Thank goodness the portion was on the daintier side. As hungry as I was, it would have been bad if it was a bigger portion. All that salt would not be good on my new kidney. My second round of salmon came out. Was it as pretty as my first plate, no but it will do. I'm sure they set the flame on high, let it sit on the grill for a while and then flipped it to cook the other side. I have cooked salmon well done plenty of times and have it come out tender. When you cook for a living, having cooking times for your dishes should be down to a science in your kitchen. Unfortunately, the salmon was super dry and flavorless. As hungry as I was, I ate it. The butter did help with the dryness of the salmon. But I shouldn't have to rely on butter to make the dish edible. For my birthday, I got a free dessert. I chose the gluten free carrot cake. My cousin eats a gluten free diet so I thought this cake would be perfect for all of us. I enjoyed the cake very much! The cake was moist. The spices in the cake were fragrant and very noticeable in each bite. I loved the frosting on the cake. Since the cake wasn't overly sweet, the frosting added a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed the cake very much! Our server did a mid job. There were times when she would be gone for long periods of time and we had to wait for her. The patio was perfect with its stunning view. Dinner was ok but dessert was fabulous. Overall it was a decent experience. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying the outdoor patio with my husband for a date night. I just know now to make sure I vocalize everything to my server so I don't end up with dry salmon again. I do want to come back and have a better experience.
