Ordered a Masala Dosa and Veg Kottu Roti. My go to dishes in a Sri Lankan restaurant. The fact that no other customers came in was worrisome to me that did I make a good choice by coming here. The Masala Dosa comes in a container sliced in two rather than the entire wrapped in foil at one of nearby place (our favourite). The Dosa (crepe) much thicker than it should be make it too doughy and filling not flavoured enough. The accompanying sambhar was nothing great as well. The chutney too thin and watery but was surprisingly much better. It hit the right notes on flavour, spiciness and salt. The Kottu Roti was cooked with minimal veggies and much spicier than I anticipated. I was fine, but the Mrs not so much. And this was asking it to be mild. Need to try the HOT when I am all alone. The redeeming factor was that it contained Nutrella pieces (Indian continent soy pieces). The quantity was disappointing as well. $8.50 for a Masala Dosa (similar price to a sit down restaurant and much better quality or several $s expensive than the one sold at a nearby Sri Lankan place) and $7 for Kottu Roti - same as Masala Dosa. Now I know why there were not many people during lunch!

Ample seating and even outdoor patio seating with string lights adding to the ambiance. I love the Chicken 65. It's tangy and very appetizing. All the curries I had were delicious. I tried the coconut chicken curry (has a bit of a kick) and also at another occasion the cashew curry for takeout, which was recommended by the staff. I think I preferred the cashew curry a bit more and it's less spicy too. It's also halal too if it matters to you. I would definitely recommend as there so many different type of curries and hakka dishes to try. Staff was also very friendly. It was late into the evening when I came in and ordered takeout and waited. The staff made small talk with me while I waited and even voided the tip, which is rare in the service industry these days.

I ordered Kothu, which is fried chopped roti . It's funny that the clerk asked me how much spicy do I want. I said what are the levels can I choose from? There are mild, medium, spicy, quite spicy and very spicy. I chose spicy this time because I don't want to have diarrhea for the first time eating sri-lankais food. The curry chicken kothu was very impressive. It smelled so good even my wife who doesn't like spicy food wanted to have a bite. The texture of kothu is special, pretty chewy, it's like both rice and noodle, or a mix of rice and noodle. The amount was also large. I only had half of it and I can continue enjoying it as tomorrow's lunch

The taste and flavour was so overwhelming that I couldn't help but inhale this dish at the speed of light, it was just so dang good. Overall, Cucini Xpress is a certified banger. I absolutely love this place. Normally, a place that has a massive menu is a bit concerning to me…read moreas it often leads to not really excelling at anything, but that is not the case here in my experience. The reason behind the large menu is related to the aim of the restaurant, which is to showcase the various regional cuisines of India. As a result, don't expect the straightforward menu of: apps, entrees, deserts, etc... rather the menu is divided by cuisine. Aside from honouring tradition, they do offer a couple 'new' takes on some items. If you comb through a few reviews, and certainly the pics, you'll notice a must-order items is the roasted eggplant with pomegranate. I don't remember the name offhand, but it is incredibly soft, well seasoned and nicely spiced dish. We also went with orders of naan, veggie dishes and meat skewers.
