I happened to walk by this restaurant and noticed it because of its brightly colour banners. It is in a small food hall with 3 other food stalls. The soft opening was on 2023-03-16 and the grand opening will be on 2023-04-04. During the grand opening, from 12:00 to 15:00, the first 200 customers get a free Kothu Roti and 40% off selected items.
I've never had Sri Lankan food before so I was eager to try some. There were some very interesting items on their menu that piqued my interest: Mutton Rolls, Kothu Roti, BBQ Jackfruit Fries, Nasi Goreng, Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich, and Loaded Red Velvet Ice Cream Fries. Obviously I will get super fat eating all of these in one visit or else, I have to come back many times, possibly with friends with whom I can share the food. Nah ... all for me!
Nasi Goreng is an Indonesian fried rice that is also popular in Malaysia. The staff told me that there are many Malay in Sri Lanka so Nasi Goreng became very popular.
On my first visit on 2023-03-30, I had the Devil Chicken Kothu Roti ($15.00). I'm used to eating roti Caribbean-style but Sri Lankans shred their roti. This is a nostalgic street food dish, recognized by the sound of 'takataka', which is the sound of the metal chopping blades hitting the flat grill plate. In addition to the shredded roti, there is deviled chicken (medium spicy), devil sauce (medium spicy), cabbage, onions, green chillies, eggs, green peppers, red peppers, carrots, and the whole dish is topped by a sunny side up egg. I chickened out (pan intended) and asked it to be mild spicy instead of medium spicy. You can ask for more or less spicy for any dish.
The whole dish was new to me and it tasted good. I could have asked them to leave out the onions (because I don't like them), but it was important for the complete look (my camera eats first), then I can push aside the onions.
They have daily lunch specials. University students can show their student IDs and get 15% off.
There is counter seating with 2 stools if you want to eat there.
There is no free customer WiFi. The food hall is wheelchair accessible. There are no customer washrooms. There is paid neighbourhood street parking and a few parking lots nearby.
