The Maharaja is located at Heritage hills and Eglington. This restaurant stands like a separate building in the Complex so it's easier to spot in the GpS. The word 'Maharaja' means "Great king". As it's name says the inside does look grand and nice . During this Covid times, they have taken good precautionary measures. We ordered for Dum Ka murgh Biriyani which is a CHICKEN Biriyani along with Few Naans another chicken side. The taste of the Biriyani was mediocre but the quantity of the food was very good. The staff at the restaurant was very kind and knowledgeable at the restaurant. The packaging of the food was very good too. A drawback about this place is the price range. Yes they are a couple of dollars more on most of the items . I think it is definitely worth a try at this place. I will visit this place after the lockdown is over for sure for a Dine in .

This was my first Indian food encounter in Canada. And to make it worth I had done hours of research on google. I literally read thousands of Indian restaurant reviews in Mississauga and finalized The Maharaja - A Boutique Indian Restaurant. It had popularity, awesome feedback and lots of recognition. I had made dinner reservations well in advance as it was an important Indian festive day and I was expecting high crowd. We reached there at the reserved time which was 9:30 pm and were escorted to our table right away. It is not too big not too small kind of boutique restaurant with some eye catchy decor elements including the historic wall paintings. Ambiance? Likable. But the fine dining reference I read about in multiple reviews remains debatable. The service, the food, the feel, the experience...Definitely a NO NO for fine dining. The server kept coming back to ask if we want to order more. Not to ensure we are properly attended but to take the menu booklet back. Also when asked about their vegetarian specialties, he seemed to have the least knowledge. To top it up, the service was quite slow as well. Nevertheless, coming to my favorite and the most important section FOOD. They have an expansive menu offering Avadhi, Hyderabadi, Punjabi and Rajasthani cuisine with around ten types of breads and three to four dessert options. We went for my all time favorite Dahi ke Kabab (Rajasthani cuisine) in appetizers, Paneer Tawa Masala (Punjabi cuisine), Pudina Parantha and Naan - i - makhani. The Food The kabab serving had four pieces and came with onion and papaya pickle on the side. The presentation brought out good colors on plate but the sides were not complimenting the dish. The kabab had a good moisture of curd and were quite filling due to paneer and dry fruit stuffing in them. However, it had a slight sweet taste to it which was a complete turn off for my taste buds. Paneer tawa masala was another disappointment, thus the decision of skipping dessert. The only thing which I liked was Pudina Parantha, which was seven on ten good. Naan - i - Makhani was lacking the smoothness and softness of a butter naan. The simple recipes like complimentary green and imli chutneys were missing flavours. Verdict - While I tried to like the place with all my heart, I could not find even a single reason to go back. Although food prices are not going to burn a whole in your pocket, drinks were moderately pricey than some other similar places.

The restaurant is targeting to offer the experience of fine dinning, and it's almost there as well. The service is good. Trained servers with effort to give good services. The interior decor is trying to reflect a fine dinning ambiance, which could be more suitable if it had a larger space and selected (refined!!) paintings. Food quality vs. price vs. quantity will get a 3.5 star out of 5. But considering only quality, it's definitely good.... aromatic and spicy. We had Shrimp curry (Hyderabadi Tawa Jhinga Masala), mixed daal (Dal Panchmel), Pudina Paratha and butter naan (Naan-i-Makhani)... all of them were good.

This is my 3rd time at the restaurant. The first 2 times I actually scored it highly, and even recommended it on my food blog. This time though left a bad taste in the mouth literally. First, I booked the festive menu. When the menu was advertised, it was written up in such a way that gave the impression you had a choice with the main courses, appetizers, etc. When we arrived, we were told, "sorry, we decided to have just one menu that changes each day." So basically, either take it, or leave it. Since we were already there, we went along with it. Then 2 things happened that really pissed me off. 1) at the end of the meal, we informed that we would like to pack what we couldn't finish, but was told we couldn't because it was a "buffet". (A) we were never told we could re-order, and (B) i was very upset that they would rather waste food but throwing it away - then letting me pack it back! 2) the biriyani was supposed to be chicken. There was a piece of BONE in it. The consequence? - I cracked my tooth on it, and was in terrible pain for a whole week before i could get an appointment with my dentist. I am very annoyed. Next time, I'll go to Khazana in Milton instead!

I have been meaning to visit this place for a while and chose the Maharaja for my birthday celebration. No regrets there. The restaurant is located on Eglinton and Hurontario inside a plaza. You cannot miss the unique Heritage building that houses the restaurant. It's advertised as a Boutique restaurant and it shows with the ambiance and decor. Reservation can be made through their website which is very easy to do and you'll receive an e-mail confirmation within 15 minutes. I also received a call from there as I made the reservation the same date just to confirm. There's plenty of parking inside the plaza so it shouldn't be an issue. Once inside, the hostess will ask you if it's the first time at the Maharaja and if it is, if you would like to take a tour. We decided to skip it. I would say that the restaurant probably sits between 50-60 people max and has a bar too. They have a shared bathroom which is very clean. Service is where they excel. Our waitress was very attentive and understanding as we explained that we may take a little bit long in choosing our dishes as my wife and daughter have little experience with Indian cuisine. She was patient and answered our questions in regards to the menu and dishes. The menu is extensive as it's divided by the different regions of India. Once we decided, we ordered the Muglai Murgh Malai Kebab as an appetizer. They were cut boneless chicken steeped in yogurt, cheese and cream. They were very delicious and a good way to start our meal. For our main courses, we went with Dum Ke Murgh Asaf Jah (Chicken stuffed with cheese, pomegranate and cumin), Chooza Makhani (Butter Chicken), Koh-e-Awadh (Two lamb shanks braised in a brown gravy. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the chicken on the Chooza Makhani was excellent. I felt that the filling on the stuffed chicken didn't quite work as it made the chicken a bit dry inside. The sauce however saved the dish. That was the only blemish in our dining experience. The Garlic Naan (Naan-I-lasooni) was the best Naan I ever had. The price is definitely higher than your regular Indian restaurants but the dining experience is worthwhile for special occasions. Highly recommended! #65 of 2018

I found this new restaurant advertised in insauga.com. It used to be a pub and they fully renovated to have each area of the dining area be unique and spectacular. I love the decor and the ambiance. I would go back for it!! Service was wonderful and they were attentive to us. The menu is divided within four regions of food from India which is interesting. It's fine dining quality. Happy: We were well taken care of and were given recommendations since we don't eat at Indian restaurants that much. We got a lamb curry and a chicken curry with two types of nan/roti. The curry was different and very flavourful. I also had s lentil soup which was a nice starter. The washroom was clean and matched the restaurant floor tiles which was nice to see. Not happy: We ended with an ice cream based dessert which wasn't to my liking. It was nicely displayed but after eating a few bites, I couldn't indulge it anymore. Since it was a special lunch, I didn't mind spending the money. But it does add up with main dish with the roti. Over $67 for two people (no alcohol drinks). Verdict: I would definitely go back to try their vegetarian dishes and for the decor. It made me feel I was in a fine dining place in India.

We have been to multiple Indian restaurants in Toronto, but one thing that stands out is the "richness" of the food. The portions are huge so be prepared to take home leftovers :)

This ties for #1 Indian food in Mississauga along with Avani Indian Bistro. Maharaja has an edge when it comes to ambiance and overall service while Avani has an edge when it comes to flavor. I ordered butter chicken (chooza makhni) and navratan korma. Both were really good. Garlic naan was amazing. So good that you can eat it on its own. Biryani was solid too. The interior decor is impeccable. And so is the service. Highly recommended if you're looking for a "royal Indian dining experience".

3.5 stars The restaurant really aims for "fine dining" and does a decent job at it via beautiful decor, presentation of dishes, etc . Service was formal and professional but slow between courses. Chicken main: Murgh Lababdar. This was tasty with the garlic naan I ordered. The sauce had carmelized onions, fresh tomatoes and cream. Beef Kabobs: Disappointing - really unappealing visually. Colour was red with how much masala was in it. Kulfi dessert: Better than I anticipated, very rich in flavour and good portion for $6 at this restaurant.

Mixed grill app - Highly recommended!

TIP: Ask the server to leave the remaining food/drink on the table if they attempt to remove it right after they've finished serving the table! TIP 2: Do make reservations, especially on the weekend. We went for a Sunday dinner and the place was at capacity. They have an easy online booking system which will text you to remind you! Pretty damn close to 5*s! The *only* reason I cannot give them a full 5* is because our server took away the gravy of the murgh lababdar (very similar to butter chicken) and the pot of chai. Otherwise, everything from the service to the actual food was great, not overhyped! Service was very nice and classy. The server started out the evening explaining the menu, that it's from different regions of India so it's different cuisines, blah, blah, blah. Atmosphere is also a mix of traditional with contemporary, so you may feel a bit odd if you should up in your late Sunday evening grocery store best. Not sure if it was because we were in a larger party/celebrating a special occasion, but our server started the meal serving the first main, one-by-one (wedding style). So after each person was served the murgh lababdar, he took away the rest of the delicious gravy! It would've been nice to dip our naan in the rest of the sauce, but it was too late. :( My BIL felt a bit uncomfortable, so he told the server that we can help serve ourselves for the rest of the meal. HOWEVER, at the end of the meal, the same thing happened with my sister's chai. The server came with a small-medium sized pot of chai, poured it into a smallish mug, then took away the rest of the pot. Meanwhile, a group of older Indian gentlemen who were seated nearby had full-on pots on their table. So we thought that was a bit odd. Again, not sure if this is their practice, but we would've preferred if they left the remaining food/drink on the table until we deemed them to be finished. Highlights were the kebob platter (don't think it's on the menu, but it featured different types of meats in different marinades) and the murgh lababdar, again it was very similar to butter chicken. I don't think you can really go wrong though 'cause everything was pretty delicious! All the dishes tasted distinctly different, unlike other Indian restaurants were many of them taste very similar. My bf cannot eat spicy foods and he was fine, so basically anyone should be able to eat here. I'd definitely go back as this was probably the nicest Indian restaurant that I've been too. The old school service really does add to not only the atmosphere, but the food as well! However, it's not a cheapie place, so keep that in mind. They automatically add a 15% grat to parties of 7+!

My family came here for my dads birthday. Since we are Indian, and my parents are phenomenal cooks, we are VERY picky when it comes to Indian food (since we are soooo well fed at home) The meat here is amazing. Kabobs, tandoori stuff...delicious (as I was told from my father). Since I am vegetarian, I didn't get to try any of these meats. The main curries were ok. Everything is mild,so tell them if you want it to be spicy! The naan was so soft and fresh, and the paneer curry was quite good. Best thing was the service. Our waiter was very patient and kind (go Kenneth!) I don't think I would come back since I'm vegetarian, but it's a great place if you want to try some good meat.

Great customer service. For first time comers you get a welcome tour for the restaurant design and history. Really antique building. And they preserved the structure. Food was amazinnnngggggg. Will go there again and again. They explained the menu to you. Very respectful environment. Worthy of their prices for the food.

The Maharaja specialized in showcasing Indian history and offered the royal dining experience. The menu is divided in 4 different sessions; 4 different flavours of 4 different regions of India. Each session has its very own appetizers, main and desserts. You are greeted with, in my opinion, the most knowledgeable and courteous server. He gives you the restaurant speech and brings a complementary minty drink (sorry I don't know the name). We got the lentil and paneer dish, with naan. Their naan is hands down the best I've ever had. The portions are generous. Highly recommend!

Ordered a Masala Dosa and Veg Kottu Roti. My go to dishes in a Sri Lankan restaurant. The fact that no other customers came in was worrisome to me that did I make a good choice by coming here. The Masala Dosa comes in a container sliced in two rather than the entire wrapped in foil at one of nearby place (our favourite). The Dosa (crepe) much thicker than it should be make it too doughy and filling not flavoured enough. The accompanying sambhar was nothing great as well. The chutney too thin and watery but was surprisingly much better. It hit the right notes on flavour, spiciness and salt. The Kottu Roti was cooked with minimal veggies and much spicier than I anticipated. I was fine, but the Mrs not so much. And this was asking it to be mild. Need to try the HOT when I am all alone. The redeeming factor was that it contained Nutrella pieces (Indian continent soy pieces). The quantity was disappointing as well. $8.50 for a Masala Dosa (similar price to a sit down restaurant and much better quality or several $s expensive than the one sold at a nearby Sri Lankan place) and $7 for Kottu Roti - same as Masala Dosa. Now I know why there were not many people during lunch!

One thing I really appreciate -- unlike many other places, they don't charge extra for sambar and chutneys. You can enjoy unlimited servings, which makes the whole dosa experience even better! The ambience is decent and comfortable, with South Indian songs or instrumental music playing in the background. It's a huge dine-in space and very popular, so expect a wait time of around 30-50 minutes, especially if you're coming with a big group. It's in high demand for a reason. Now the food... I honestly can't put it into words. So delicious. So authentic. The dosas are perfectly crispy, served with hot sambar -- pure bliss. Total food coma after! We tried several dishes (see pics), and every single one was amazing. Washroom note: There are two stalls in the women's restroom, which feels a bit limited for how busy the restaurant gets.
