I'm always craving good South Indian fare, especially dosas so we decided to check out Saravanaa Bhavan. They have a lot of locations all over the world. We ordered a bunch of stuff - some delicious, and some failed to hit the spot. My onion rava masala dosa was perfect, just like what you'd find in india. My mom's mysore masala dosa was underwhelming with the dosa slathered with a spicy red chutney that was extremely average. Other items we ordered was the vada idli combo. All dishes come with three chutneys and sambar - pretty nice touch

This is the first real dosa experience, so I did not really know what to expect. We were in a group of 13 and arrived at this restaurant at about 6:30 PM on a Saturday. This was a very busy time for the restaurant, so wait about 30 minutes for a large table that could accommodate all of us. If we were in a group of 2 or 4, we could have been seated within 10 minutes. The service from the wait staff was excellent. We did not know what to order, and being a large group, the waitress was patient and took the time to explain what was spicy. Everyone at our table ordered one of the various choices of dosa, except three of us who order the special thali meal. I order the thali which came with a vast array of dishes, all of which were very good, and most were very spicy. The dosas that I sampled were also very good and must spicier than I expected. Overall, the food was very good, and the service was exceptional. I did return again a bit later with a smaller group to try their dosa as I ordered the thali the first time. Service was still excellent, and we were seated much faster.

As you may know, Saravana Bhavan is an international chain and known to be the best Indian vegetarian restaurant. I wouldn't say this is false, as we drive to Canada often to eat here. Outside India, we haven't found a better place. This place is always busy, but the staff handle the customers well. The restaurant is also reasonably priced to where it's worth driving here from across the border. Every dish is well prepared and comparable to the quality you would get in India. If you haven't tried this place, I'd highly recommend checking it out.

We came here for lunch on a weekend afternoon and it was super busy. I put my name on the wait list and we were called in after 25-30 minutes. We shared the lunch thali (which came with chappathi, chana masala, masala rice, sambar, veg kootu, rasam, kulambu veg poriyal, pachadi, curd, appalam, vadac, sweet pickle) and paneer dosa. I enjoyed everything and loved the side dishes of the thali. I didn't know what each dish specifically was but I enjoyed the chick pea and veggie based curries most. First time trying dosa too and it was filled and delicious. Would definition return! Also love how everything is vegetarian here.

To be transported to a South Indian household and to be welcomed to have a freshly made lunch. That's the feeling you get at Saravanaa Bhavan. Excellent vegetarian South Indian food, unassuming top notch service, and effortlessly authentic decor representing respect and pride in day-to-day household cooking, these sum up Saravanaa Bhavan. I have been to this place thrice, each time I have had different dishes - thali, chhole bhature, ghee rava dosa, etc., and each time the food was consistently great. Don't miss out on Filter Coffee when you visit. And you should visit!

The veg special thali was definitely different taste but could be skippable. We were served by Jaspreet who took great care of the food and bought it super quick. The place is slightly smaller in comparison to other outlets and lighting's are dull too. Honestly, I would highly recommend visiting other outlets for ambiance and do try ghee paper masala dosa

GTA has a lot of awesome options but this place was recommended by some people from India saying that this is the best chain out there. We got takeout with a lot of different things including two types of dosas, mini idlis, medhu vadas, rava kesari, rava kichidi, and chai. I scheduled my order through door dash for later in the evening and as soon as I placed the order, I got a text saying my food is ready for pickup (5 hours early!). I called to confirm that they'd be making fresh food. The pick up experience wasn't the best, the entrance is blocked by a huge table and you have to go around it and many people (this place is crowded) to get to the food. I wasn't greeted by any staff, basically ignored, and had to wave / call out to get their attention. The food was definitely not hot and was pre made. The place was also very crowded. The food: taste wise, it was actually pretty good! They did forget to give us an item, but other than that, the food was great. Not sure if my experience was poor due to door dash or them, would definitely give this place another chance.

Great spot for South Indian food in Mississauga. The dosa menu is huge with tons of flavours to choose from along with scrumptious poori and fun curries. I ordered a butter dosa which was delicate and stuffed with a rich potato filling. The dosa chutneys covered your cravings for creaminess or heat. Also ordered a large combo complete with a variety of small savoury, spicy and sweet dishes around a bowl of rice and poori. Everything on the menu is vegetarian, but really doesn't hold back on flavour. Service can be a little slow during a busy meal period, but otherwise accommodating and very respectful. Will be back again for another authentic experience.

Delicious dosas aplenty! I ordered the Masala Dosa and it was very flavorful with the potatoes and its accompanying sauces. The max dine-in time here is 45 minutes so no lollygagging allowed

The service quick. It is my go to place for some good South Indian food. The taste is good and consistent. The ambiance is good and on some days it's hard to get a table here.

Saravanaa bhavan is also known as HSB (Hotel Saravanaa Bhavan). This franchise is the biggest vegetarian franchise from South India and has too many locations across the globe. Toronto itself has two outlets. This place is located at Eglington and Hurontario so getting to this place is super easy on GPS. During the Covid times, they have taken good precautions in terms of hygiene as expected. I am one of the repeat customers at this outlet. I have tasted a wide variety of vegetarian orders. Usually the Tiffin items are best at this franchise. Be it Dosas or Idli's or Kichidi or Poori all of them does live up to the name. This is a south Indian chain so do not expect a chinese or north indian item to give you the authentic feel. Sometimes they do mess up with the Sambhar which is actually not acceptable because those who know the original taste of food from this restaurant might get disappointed. Also Ghee Pongal which is one of their signature dish is available only on Weekends. Their meals however have been a little average no idea why. This restaurant is a delight for South Indian Vegetarian food lovers so it falls under the league of A MUST TRY. Easily this outlet is the best in the area and way better than GuruLukshmi and Udupi Madras Cafe in taste.

This is probably one of the best places for South Indian food in the GTA- as good as what we get back home in New Delhi! My friends and I went there around 4 and the wait wasn't too long. However, they took more than 30 minutes to get our food. I ordered a masala dosa, papads and a filter coffee. The filter coffee was amazing and the dosa was fresh and crispy. It came with sambar and two chutneys and everything tasted great. I am definitely going back to this place!!

Normally, a place that has a massive menu is a bit concerning to me…read moreas it often leads to not really excelling at anything, but that is not the case here in my experience. The reason behind the large menu is related to the aim of the restaurant, which is to showcase the various regional cuisines of India. As a result, don't expect the straightforward menu of: apps, entrees, deserts, etc... rather the menu is divided by cuisine. Aside from honouring tradition, they do offer a couple 'new' takes on some items. If you comb through a few reviews, and certainly the pics, you'll notice a must-order items is the roasted eggplant with pomegranate. It really is like nothing else I've had before and unforgettable in both taste and texture. My group also went with a famous lamb dish as well. I don't remember the name offhand, but it is incredibly soft, well seasoned and nicely spiced dish. We also went with orders of naan, veggie dishes and meat skewers. It's beautifully decorated inside and also has the advantage of being located in a heritage building in what was formerly an estate home nearly 150 years old. It's truly a unique place and one people living in the area can be proud and of showcase to visitors.

Ordered a Masala Dosa and Veg Kottu Roti. My go to dishes in a Sri Lankan restaurant. The fact that no other customers came in was worrisome to me that did I make a good choice by coming here. The Masala Dosa comes in a container sliced in two rather than the entire wrapped in foil at one of nearby place (our favourite). The Dosa (crepe) much thicker than it should be make it too doughy and filling not flavoured enough. The accompanying sambhar was nothing great as well. The chutney too thin and watery but was surprisingly much better. It hit the right notes on flavour, spiciness and salt. The Kottu Roti was cooked with minimal veggies and much spicier than I anticipated. I was fine, but the Mrs not so much. And this was asking it to be mild. Need to try the HOT when I am all alone. The redeeming factor was that it contained Nutrella pieces (Indian continent soy pieces). The quantity was disappointing as well. $8.50 for a Masala Dosa (similar price to a sit down restaurant and much better quality or several $s expensive than the one sold at a nearby Sri Lankan place) and $7 for Kottu Roti - same as Masala Dosa. Now I know why there were not many people during lunch!
