(100/10 if I could!) On our way back home from Horseshoe Valley, we stopped at Saravanaa Bhavan for a full South Indian-style lunch -- and it was absolutely worth it! This is one of my all-time favorite spots for South Indian food. Pro tip: it's fully vegetarian, and you won't miss meat at all because the flavors are that good. The service is quick and friendly. One thing I really appreciate -- unlike many other places, they don't charge extra for sambar and chutneys. You can enjoy unlimited servings, which makes the whole dosa experience even better! The ambience is decent and comfortable, with South Indian songs or instrumental music playing in the background. It's a huge dine-in space and very popular, so expect a wait time of around 30-50 minutes, especially if you're coming with a big group. It's in high demand for a reason. Now the food... I honestly can't put it into words. So delicious. So authentic. The dosas are perfectly crispy, served with hot sambar -- pure bliss. Total food coma after! I'm always craving good South Indian fare, especially dosas so we decided to check out Saravanaa Bhavan. They have a lot of locations all over the world. We ordered a bunch of stuff - some delicious, and some failed to hit the spot. My onion rava masala dosa was perfect, just like what you'd find in india. This is the first real dosa experience, so I did not really know what to expect. We were in a group of 13 and arrived at this restaurant at about 6:30 PM on a Saturday. This was a very busy time for the restaurant, so wait about 30 minutes for a large table that could accommodate all of us. If we were in a group of 2 or 4, we could have been seated within 10 minutes. The service from the wait staff was excellent. We did not know what to order, and being a large group, the waitress was patient and took the time to explain what was spicy. Everyone at our table ordered one of the various choices of dosa, except three of us who order the special thali meal. I order the thali which came with a vast array of dishes, all of which were very good, and most were very spicy. The dosas that I sampled were also very good and must spicier than I expected. Overall, the food was very good, and the service was exceptional. I did return again a bit later with a smaller group to try their dosa as I ordered the thali the first time. Pathetic service! Shockingly poor customer handling! Boys like Sudhir on the front desk needs to be fired! Food average! Prices high! In short - Save your hard earned money, eat better food (at Annalakshmi or Maruthi Restaurant @ Financial Drive) and because the food is better there and because they values their customers. This location of Sarvana is best avoided. Here is the longer version of you care to read: The person at the front desk, Sudhir, who claimed to be the supervisor/manager, showed zero empathy, maturity, or basic judgment when dealing with a medical situation involving my pregnant wife in her third trimester who is on insulin. His behavior was insensitive, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. We arrived for lunch and were told the wait would be 40-50 minutes for our group of 6-7. The wait time itself was understandable. What was not acceptable was the complete lack of any waiting area, no chairs, no seating, nothing for elderly guests, pregnant women, specially abled people, or families with kids. Staff repeatedly instructed us and other guests to go outside the restaurant and wait in the cold or sit in our cars. My pregnant wife (in the third trimester) had taken her insulin shot before lunch and needed to eat within a certain timeframe. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, we still weren't called. When I followed up, another staff member suggested splitting us across two separate tables in different parts of the restaurant. We declined and chose to wait for the larger table we were originally promised, and were told it would be another 10 minutes. Again, we were asked to go outside and wait in the cold. At this point, my wife's blood sugar was beginning to drop, and for medical reasons she could not wait any longer, nor wait in the cold. So we agreed to take the separate tables temporarily, with the understanding that we could move when the larger table became available. Shortly after, a larger table did become free. When I requested to be moved, Sudhir refused, saying he had already given the table to another group that hadn't even arrived yet. When I explained him the situation without understanding the medical urgency under which we complied to take two separate tables, he dismissively said, "You made your choice. You were told to wait 10 minutes." He repeated this in a rude, argumentative tone, showing absolutely no empathy or willingness to help. When we asked to speak to the manager, he casually said the manager wasn't there and then got into an argument without asking about the medical urgency and why we complied. Anyway, we were made to sit separately and if this alone want enough to ruin the experience, the issues didn't stop there. One of our dishes was never entered into the system, and we waited 25 minutes before being told it wasn't coming. Our friends on the other table requested to split the bill based on what each person ordered, which was flat out refused for no reason. Over the years, the food quality at this location has declined from good to average, while prices have increased to premium levels. What's worse is the complete lack of hospitality. The front desk is run by inexperienced staff (all boys lacking life experience and maturity) who seem more focused on moving customers through like a conveyor belt rather than treating them with basic courtesy and respect. I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. When you are charging premium prices, the bare minimum expectation is professional service and basic human empathy. The owners seriously need to reassess who they put in supervisory roles. Staff like Sudhir have no business handling customers, especially when situations require judgment, sensitivity, and professionalism. read more

As you may know, Saravana Bhavan is an international chain and known to be the best Indian vegetarian restaurant. I wouldn't say this is false, as we drive to Canada often to eat here. Outside India, we haven't found a better place. This place is always busy, but the staff handle the customers well. The restaurant is also reasonably priced to where it's worth driving here from across the border. Every dish is well prepared and comparable to the quality you would get in India. If you haven't tried this place, I'd highly recommend checking it out. read more

We came here for lunch on a weekend afternoon and it was super busy. I put my name on the wait list and we were called in after 25-30 minutes. We shared the lunch thali (which came with chappathi, chana masala, masala rice, sambar, veg kootu, rasam, kulambu veg poriyal, pachadi, curd, appalam, vadac, sweet pickle) and paneer dosa. I enjoyed everything and loved the side dishes of the thali. I didn't know what each dish specifically was but I enjoyed the chick pea and veggie based curries most. GTA has a lot of awesome options but this place was recommended by some people from India saying that this is the best chain out there. We got takeout with a lot of different things including two types of dosas, mini idlis, medhu vadas,rava kesari, rava kichidi, and chai. I scheduled my order through door dash for later in the evening and as soon as I placed the order, I got a text saying my food is ready for pickup (5 hours early!). I called to confirm that they'd be making fresh food. The pick up experience wasn't the best, the entrance is blocked by a huge table and you have to go around it and many people (this place is crowded) to get to the food. I wasn't greeted by any staff, basically ignored, and had to wave / call out to get their attention. The food was definitely not hot and was pre made. The place was also very crowded. The food: taste wise, it was actually pretty good! They did forget to give us an item, but other than that, the food was great. I ordered a butter dosa which was delicate and stuffed with a rich potato filling. The dosa chutneys covered your cravings for creaminess or heat. Also ordered a large combo complete with a variety of small savoury, spicy and sweet dishes around a bowl of rice and poori. Everything on the menu is vegetarian, but really doesn't hold back on flavour. Service can be a little slow during a busy meal period, but otherwise accommodating and very respectful. Toronto itself has two outlets. This place is located at Eglington and Hurontario so getting to this place is super easy on GPS. During the Covid times, they have taken good precautions in terms of hygiene as expected. I am one of the repeat customers at this outlet. I have tasted a wide variety of vegetarian orders. Usually the Tiffin items are best at this franchise. Be it Dosas or Idli's or Kichidi or Poori all of them does live up to the name. This is a south Indian chain so do not expect a chinese or north indian item to give you the authentic feel. Sometimes they do mess up with the Sambhar which is actually not acceptable because those who know the original taste of food from this restaurant might get disappointed. Also Ghee Pongal which is one of their signature dish is available only on Weekends. Their meals however have been a little average no idea why. This restaurant is a delight for South Indian Vegetarian food lovers so it falls under the league of A MUST TRY. This is probably one of the best places for South Indian food in the GTA- as good as what we get back home in New Delhi! My friends and I went there around 4 and the wait wasn't too long. Came here after visiting driveTest nearby. This location is a lot smaller than the one at Scarborough. Entering inside the restaurant feels claustrophobic and the number of tables seemed no match given how popular this restaurant brand is. The table layout also reminded me of back home and the friendly servers were patient and helpful. The menu is your regular South Indian menu with idlis and dosas and a variety of other South Indian dishes. The quantity of chutney sambar were less but adequate. They also refilled my sambar. The continued success and hard work of the branches in other countries has allowed the employees here to bathe in their glory for nothing. The food is still of good quality but the front service takes everything away. Ambiance is in par with a South Indian restaurant in . waiting is dependent on the day and time of your visit and this is made more uncomfortable due to lack of common sense. In the dead of winter they will expect you to walk in register your name and then head back to your car. If you know this strip mall yiur consider yourself lucky if you got parking close by. People spend money to have a good time but unfortunately places like this think they are doing you a favour by allowing you to come and enjoy an evening. There were flies everywhere! One was even in the Sugar shaker! We had to constantly swat away the flies.. the food service was terrible.. half the folks got their food in one round.. then came the 4th after 5-7 mins and after alerting the server for missing food, it took another 5 mins for the 5th and the 6th plate of food meant for the youngest kid did not arrive till everybody was already done eating.. and that even after our server was altered twice. So so so so good and super satisfying. We went on a weekend evening to visit and did have to wait a while for a table - this place was rammed! Since it was our first visit with our Tamil friend (this is her fave place in the GTA), we let her guide our choices. We shared a few appetizers to start (I forget the names but one was tasty bites) and they were delicious. For my main, I opted for the paneer dosa and it was so good. Not sure why this restaurant has a low rating. Many Yelpers seem to complain about the service, but our servers were very patient, attentive, and quick. The menu can be a bit overwhelming if you are unfamiliar with south Indian food. It's a good idea to take a look beforehand and try to decide what you want to order as the menu is quite expansive and the descriptions are not very clear. We went for lunch on a weekday. Between the four of us, we ordered a dosa (Mysore), mini tiffin, and the special meal combo (thali). Loved the dosa as it was very crispy and the filling was flavourful and spicy without being overpowering. Favourite item from the tiffin was the idly, would order that as an appetizer next time to have more of it. Thali was a great way to sample many different gravy-based and dry curries. Came with many carb options (e.g. rice, pappadum) to soak up the curries. Loved the chutneys and sambar especially. Tasted very authentic, fresh, and flavourful. I really liked the Madras coffee. The chai was a bit weak for my taste but not bad. I would suggest getting sugar on the side if you want to control the level of sweetness. Good idea to go with a group and get several items to share. Best south Indian food I had tried so far. I know it's a chain but their food and service were amazing. Come with my coworker (who is South Indian) and he also liked this place. I ordered Saravanaa Special Meals (Thali) and my coworker ordered (Mini Tiffin). They were huge portions and tasty, we had to take some back home.
