Like the Bishop Arts store, this is easily one of the best smelling shops I've ever entered. The minute I opened the door the great scent just drew me into the shop. Upon entering there were candles, candles and more candles. I usually frequent the Bishop Arts location but getting there is challenge due to the construction in the area. Also, since I was in the area doing some other things I decided to stop into this location. While the layout of the two stores is similar, this location is more spacious which allows more for more comfortable shopping experience during the busy periods. Also, because of the larger space, they have more product in the store and ready for purchase. Something to note is that while both locations carry the same items; because of demographics availability of certain items may be more readily available at one location than the other. Thankfully, my two favorite candles were in stock making my trip a success. The staff as this location are very welcoming and friendly. The person I worked with was very helpful in pointing out the candles I went for. Of the my two, I was worried that they didn't have one of them and she pointed to where they were and explained the labeling has changed which is why I walked right past them. Having covered a few of the similarities between the two locations; one area where they differ is parking. This location has a huge parking lot (it is shared with other businesses in the area) has plenty of parking. While I don't mind street parking (and walking), there is something to be said for a parking lot as it adds a level of convenience to the shopping experience. Because this was my first visit (I was unsure of the exact location amongst all the other shops), I ended up parking a distance away from the shop and walking to it. I will probably continue to do that as it allows me to still get the walking experiencing. If you're not into walking there are plenty of spaces right in front of the shop. I have been a huge fan of Society and their awesome candles for a few years. While this was my first visit to this location it will not be the last; I foresee many more visits in the future. My friend and I were shopping in Dallas and knew we wanted to run by Preston Center so I googled what shops were there and came across Society. I wasn't sure if it was a home decor shop or just candles, as I found out they are also a design company. Turns out this is their second location, the first being in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. This is just a candle boutique, not a home decor or design store. But the owners are designers and have an office elsewhere, if I understood correctly. I loved the look of the store and the salesperson was friendly and helpful. Their candles are pricy but LOVE all the scents and they make a great gift. Oh and I had to buy one for me too! I asked the salesgirl what scent was the most popular and she said No. 2 so that is what I bought for both me and my sister. She wrapped my sister's in a separate bag with tissue so my gift was ready to go! She also gave us tips on how to burn our candles-first time let them burn for 2-3 hours so they burn evenly and don't "hollow" out. Also cut the wick next time I use. I love my candle, I am burning it now! And my sister loved hers too! Will be back, this store is unique! read more

What a great store! Elegantly appointed with easy to reach candles all set up for sniffing! They also have some greeting cards and interesting little items for purchase. This candle shop is amazing! The smells, the ambiance, the decor of old time shoppe will capture your senses. Friendly staff will help you with the perfect scent for your home or office. Besides the candles, I discovered the Jericho Rose, and I became very inquisitive about this plant. She explained it in detail and for $6.00 I purchased one. I can't wait for it to bloom and surprise me with its opening and closing features. I was looking for a candle with an earthy smell that would capture nature in my home. She led me to the perfect candle. I will be back for sure. read more

I drive an hour to shop at this perfect little candle shop!! THE BEST place for gifts and if you are lucky enough to get this experience with LAURA!! Well, you are in for a little treat! DON'T SHOP SOCIETY-PRESTON! Bought candle that burns with continuous strong black smoke. Wife asked for a refund/exchange, and the saleswoman simple went crazy; yelled at my wife and told her to leave with her finger in her face! Wife calmly asked again for a refund/exchange & saleswoman said she will call the police if she doesn't leave (world's most interesting return policy!!!) Salesperson was the only person yelling and tried to push my wife out with the defective candle and her iphone/wallet, even though my wife told her that her stuff was on the counter. My wife asked me to come in. As I approached, two black men tried to enter as well. The saleswoman said they can't come in because "she couldn't help them". She shoved cash at me (no the full amount) & said to leave. She claimed to call security, saying there was an "Asian woman obstructing her business". Per other reviews, she has black hair (short cut) & was the rudest human I've ever encountered. Clearly not the place to get candles for relaxation. No need to expose my family & friends to this combination of racism and harassment in my own neighborhood ever again. This happened Saturday afternoon 8/1/20. Laura is back! I love Society's candle selection, but Laura's exceptional customer service is why I drive in from Tyler or fly in from North Carolina. From the JV signature through the Texas city candles to Sydney Hale Blueberry and Lavender + Bay Laurel to Coastal Juniper their scents take me through the year. I spent maybe 5 minutes with Laura saying "yes" or "no" to certain scents and she knows my range. In addition to a fabulous in store experience they also ship nationwide which is much appreciated. read more

I have been a faithful customer of the Preston/NW Highway location for several years. Today, I went to buy a candle a little after 2:00 pm. The door was locked, and a note on the door said that the store would be closed for 15 minutes. However, I could see customers walking around the store. I knocked to be let in with them. A woman who works there came to the door. I have seen her multiple times in the past. She is a Caucasian woman with black straight hair. She unlocked the door and told me that they are closing in 15 minutes, then she locked the door again. She did not make eye contact with me. I double checked the closing time on the website, and I saw that you all are open until 6 pm. It was incredibly rude of her to treat me that way. I will never shop at this store again. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I've never experience something so rude in my life. Let me just start with, I was OUTSIDE of this store not even inside with my best friend and her two year old son, Tristan. The lady who works here (didn't get her name, I wish I could tell you who it was-she had black hair) was outside feeding pigeons and told us to control Tristan because he was "being loud". Again, we were outside. I am still appalled by her rudeness and lack of patience towards children. I will never step foot in this store. read more

This is the best candle shop in Dallas! You must try their Jackson Vaughn #5 as well as #4! The scents are incredible. I mix the two. Another great scent is Hyde by Jackson Vaughn. Very woodsy, sophisticated and masculine. You can get lost in the shop. Beautifully merchandised and the selection of candles is superb!!! It's a must go! read more

Adorable shop and nice candles, but salesman person named Laura had a terrible attitude. Sad, I won't go back. Also, Laura quoted me a price on a plant holder, then doubled it when I checked out. I told her, she quoted me another price. Her response "well you don't have to buy it". Wow....I've never dealt with a salesperson like her. Someone needs to teach her some manners. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt that I should share just how truly lovely this place and its staff are. My parents are in town for a visit, so I took them over to the bishop arts district to walk about and do a bit of shopping. We arrived at Society and fell in love with the beautiful little candle shop. This place is a candle lover's heaven. We spent an endless amount of time smelling every candle and it was wonderful. But the thing that stuck out the most, that makes them one of the best stores I have ever shopped in is this: as we were wandering around the store, my mom had gathered a few candles and asked to leave them at the front so we could continue to shop, as we were checking out, my mom decided she didn't want one of the candles she had grabbed and asked the saleswoman to put it aside. We finished our purchase and went on our way. But, a few minutes later I received a call from the store (I had created a profile so they had my information and our purchase on file) and the saleswoman notified us that she had accidentally charged us for the candle my mom had decided she did not want. I was so impressed and of course thankful that she called and told us because we would never have known otherwise. We did not ask for a receipt when we checked out and there honestly would have been no way for us to know that she had made a mistake, so she could have let it slide and left the charge on there and no one would have known about her mistake, but instead she went out of the way to call us and tell us. I am astounded by that and for that reason I will continue to support this beautiful business. read more
