The place to get wine in Boston. It's rare to find a store with well done curations, most shops these days are filled with yellow tail, Josh, and veuve. Social wines is different, they excel in having interesting stuff, much of which comes from small growers around the world. I've had a a number of natural wines here that were particularly excellent, namely this Austrian one that I can never remember the name of. The staff are also great, they have consistently made excellent recommendations. Not just the most expensive bottles either, just flat out good recommendations. Went here with a friend to do a wine tasting they were having and it was pretty great. The lady running it was super knowledgeable and talked us through everything. The order was also on point with the funkier, spicier wines coming later. Afterwards we looked around to check out what they had and was impressed with not only their selection but how much they prioritized local. What a great place to shop for wine! The selection, the cleanliness, the organization and interior design, and the staff... top notch here. I stopped in for the first time on a Saturday evening around 7. It was pretty busy but I was immediately greeted by 2 staff and was able to get immediate help. I told him what I was looking for and my price point. He steered me in the right direction and gave me three popular options/suggestions at my price point, one below and one above and explained the flavor points each one had. Me not being a connoisseur of wines, it was really helpful to get expert advice quickly. Otherwise I could have wondered around the store and wasted 20 minutes and have no idea what I was leaving with. So if you are a connoisseur or not, this is a great shop. I have been living in Southie for years now and I love shopping at Social. The folks who work there clearly care deeply about wine/beer and also about their customers. They always greet me warmly and know about my day to day life. I always get good suggestions and the staff turned me on to my very favorite sauv blanc. During the quarantine I have ordered delivery from them several times. They can always bring what I'm looking for at a reasonable price and in a quick time frame. I'm a big fan of this place! First, when you walk in, it's very well lit, has a new/modern feel to it, clean and inviting. Second, the staff is INCREDIBLE! I mean easily the most knowledgeable team I've met in any liquor store, clearly they put a lot of emphasis on either training or hiring the right people, but keep it up! Finally, the product is great, not many other local places with such a wide variety alcohol! I love this place! From the name of the store to the selection of items to their amazing tasting events to the friendly helpful staff, this place is perfect! The first time I've been to social wine was for their big tasting event that was held in the courtyard behind the store. They had liquor table, white wine table, red wine table, and a beer table all set up with knowledgeable staff and hor d'oeurves, cheeses, and fruit. At the end of it, somehow they had convinced me to take home 2 new bottles of wine. But who's complaining? The next few times I've been there both for wine tastings and for grabbing a bottle of wine on my own, the staff have been so very helpful. They made suggestions that weren't just the most expensive thing on the shelf, which I appreciated. It seems that everyone that works there know about all the wine they carry, which is impressive seeing as how many wines they have on their shelves. Even though their name is Social WINES, they carry a great selection of craft beers and liquors as well, so do check that out. Lastly, if you go on their website, they have a schedule that shows the times of their tastings, so if you're near Broadway station in Southie or need a little bit of wine before heading home for the day, you should stop by. read more

Staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. The store is well-organized, with color-coded price tags that note whether a product is local (red) or organic (green). A nice touch, for sure! The wine selection is pretty deep, and their whisky/whiskey selection isn't crazy, but solid. I'm more of a Scotch drinker, and their selection isn't super deep, but they've got a good selection with a few harder-to-find bottles in the mix. Their prices are on-par with many of the other spirits shops I've encountered in the area, and with such a nice staff, we'll definitely be frequenting Social Wines now that we've discovered the shop as new Boston/Southie residents! read more

If I could give a lower rating, I would. While the selection is nice, the owner, ruined my experience. Not only was she INCREDIBLY rude to the poor guy running a beer tasting and promoting his brand there, she was also condescending to me. She yelled at this poor kid for showing up in a suit clearly coming from another job. She called his boss and yelled at the both of them with myself and other customers in the store. All this because he and I quote, "didn't look like he was apart of their vibe". This poor kid. Not sure what type of customer she expects to shop at an over priced craft beer store next to one of the more ritzy universities in America. Terrific beer and spirits store which has a focus on quality not quantity. Their selection might not be gigantic but they'll have the good stuff, including my new favorite gin, Wire Works, which is distilled right here in Boston by GrandTen Distilling. It was actually one of the reasons for my visit there. That aside the staff is friendly and one should take the time to peruse their selection carefully as they really do have some gems in there if you take the time to look or ask the right questions. Finding parking was tricky but they are just a stone's throw from the Broadway subway stop on the red line. All in all this is a great store and a much-needed addition to the neighborhood. Everyone should shop here. Everyone. The owners are the shiz, they're the nicest, most knowledgeable, friendliest people ever. Social Wines carries the most amazing selection of craft beer and small batch liquor I've ever seen. They also have some cool drink enhancers, stop by to check them out. The wine selection is really cool. They definitely spent some serious time thinking through the layout and overall offering. There are so many different kinds of wine I've never heard of or tried, it's always an adventure choosing my weeknight vino :). They also have a really cool tasting room and host numerous tastings weekly (beer, wine and other). My good friend just moved to this neighborhood and we stopped in to grab something to toast her closing. There was a wine tasting going on and a woman had 4 bottles out to sample, 3 at a lower price point ($10-$25) and one that was a little more expensive ($48), it was fun to try all four and get her perspective on the wines. I'm always up for a little learning about vino. I ended up buying one on display. They have a great selection here, cool signage, great 15 minute parking outside.... They even track what wine you've purchased so you don't have to remember! How cool is that? So glad we came in, I'll definitely be back. read more

Love Social Wines! I live right next to a liquor/beer store in Southie, but will still take the walk down to Social Wines to find the right bottle of wine or beer. They have a great selection, and the staff seems very knowledgeable about everything in the store. They also seem to just "get" when you actually need help, and when you're just browsing...AKA, they know when to leave you alone. You can opt in (for free) for the store to track your purchases which is pretty awesome. Can't remember that bottle of wine you bought and loved 12 months ago? They'll have a record of it. Social Wines is a phenomenal little wine, beer, and liquor store convenient to the Broadway T stop. The collection is well-curated and boasts many affordable bottles of wine, as well as an interesting beer selection and some unusual liquors. This is the only place in the Boston area where I was able to find the delicious Leopold Brothers gin from Boulder, CO. As if the quality of the merchandise weren't enough, Social Wine has more-than-weekly tastings in the store, delivers to local addresses (free above a minimum purchase amount), and tracks your purchases using your email address so you can rediscover the tasty beverages you hardly remember quaffing. Social Wines is a solid addition to the West Broadway neighborhood in Southie, instantly becoming my favorite purveyors of fine wines, craft beers, and other sprits, at all price points. The staff are incredibly helpful and are as hand-on or off as you need them to be in helping you decide on a perfect beer or wine. Additionally, if you join they will track your purchases, helping you remember the name of the perfect bottle of Malbec or six pack of IPA you had the week before that you can no longer remember because you so thoroughly enjoyed/imbibed it. Agree with most of what is written here, but a couple of comments. Beer selection is good but limited. Yes, Southie has enough places to buy Bud Light and Sam Adams, so anything to improve alternatives is welcome. That said, I wish the selection were a little bigger. Kind of a small cooler, but so far found some nice selections on a whim. Wine & liquor selections look pretty good and I can't wait to spend more time browsing. The main problem I have is with location. I live towards the center of Southie and this is on the very edge of Southie near the Broadway T stop. Parking anywhere near has become brutal and getting worse with the development of this part of the neighborhood. Three times last week I wanted to stop by, but couldn't park a reasonable distance, so blew it off. Kind of hard to carry a bunch of beer/wine 6 blocks. And, I'm a grown adult, so I gave up riding a bike when I was 16 and got a driver license, so save your breath. PS: What's with all the crappy liquor stores in Southie trying to get people to sign petitions to ban Foodies, American Provisions, et al from selling beer and wine? Afraid of working a little harder to attract/keep customers? Not everyone wants a 30 pack of Coors Light, so lighten up. We moved in down the street from Social Wines about two months ago and we feel lucky to be so close. We don't drink much wine, but we do love beer and we like to try new beers as well as have a supply of our go-to beers on hand. The selection here is great, the prices aren't bad, and the staff is helpful and nice. I met the owner the first time I went in and he explained that they don't have Coors Light/Bud Light/etc in stock. It's not that they scoff at it, but rather that you can get those anywhere and they'd rather stock more hard to find products. I like that. I've been in several times and have found something new we've liked every time. We'll definitely be coming back often. read more

Folks, the gang at Social Wines will not disappoint you. Their selection is good, and everything in the store is something they've tried and selected for a reason. They're great for a recommendation if you have a specific need (best wine to pair with a pork loin, for example) or if you are just on the prowl for a good, inexpensive staying-in wine. A personal favorite is the Terra sparkling Malbec. This was an excellent find and if you've never had a sparking red, friend, you are missing out. But please make sure you leave a bottle for me. Enjoy frequent tastings, interesting events, or just a casual shop-and-chat. But don't come in looking for a case of Natty Ice. Al's down the street is your place for that. read more

Absolutely love this place. The staff KNOWS THEIR STUFF. Between wine, beer and liquor suggestions, they are spot on and never let me down. One time I went in to get a wine to go with "gourmet hot dogs." They suggested an Austrian red that was like no wine I've ever had. This place is excellent if you are looking for Wine and Spirits. They have a lot of different things in terms of liquor that you can't find anywhere. I am not a huge wine drinker, but friends of mine who are rave about this place. Personally I drink bourbon, tequila or beer and this place has some higher end tequilas that I have never seen anywhere. The store itself has a great, modern layout and doesn't feel like a dingy, old liquor store. The staff is outstanding, especially Eileen who I don't believe owns the place, but she treats it like she does. They will let you sample bottles too if they happen to have one open in the back. This is key if you're going to splurge on a $50+ bottle. I highly recommend Social Wines! read more

Social Wines is amazing, and is SO needed in South Boston! The store space is clean and inviting, and the wines are grouped by style of wine, which i appreciate. The prices are reasonable, and the store highlights the local bottles as well as the organic, which is a nice touch. The staff are incredible, they really know their stuff and can help you find the perfect bottle. You don't need to be a wine snob to relay to them what you're looking for (read: you don't need to tell them you are looking for a red with ripe cherry notes and a smoky finish), you just need to tell them simple things like what you will be eating or what mood you are in. Seriously, i went in once and told the owner i had a rough day and i just wanted a glass of red to melt away the day, and that was all he needed to know, he found me the perfect pinot noir. They have a great beer selection too, bottles you don't see elsewhere, a lot of local microbreweries. They also highlight some liquor, again display some great local companies. One of my favorite things about this place is their tastings! I believe they are everyday, mainly wine, sometimes beer, sometimes liquor, but always fun and they are happy to serve you. I feel like a lot of places that have tastings assume everyone is coming in for free booze, but here you don't feel that way, and i guarantee you will buy something because they choose their tastings wisely. Finally, if you become a member (just by giving your email address i believe) they track your past purchases, so if a month ago you knew you bought a great sauv blanc but can't remember the name, they will be able to pull it up for you. such a great service! Great selection of wine, beer, and spirits. Different types of specialty beers and had a room full of seasonal pumpkin beer. The prices here are comparable to Charles Street Liquor. I personally like Social Wines better than Charles Street. We were looking for mezcal and they had several different kinds and the workers were very friendly and helpful in what kind of cocktails we could make with mezcal. We ended up buying a bottle of mezcal that the worker recommended and we loved it. Definitely will come back here! read more

I've been to social wines a few times and each time has been such a memorable experience, I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a review. Here are the reasons I love this store: 1. Extensive selection of carefully curated wine, beer, and spirits-- definitely goes along with my beliefs in supporting small businesses 2. Wide range in price selection with a very assortment of affordable items-- I feel like I can stop by here for a 6 pack of beer, a nice bottle of wine for a dinner party, or for a gift 3. The service here is FANTASTIC! I stopped by today for a gift for some co-workers who recently got married. After speaking to the lovely staff for a few minutes, they were off making a custom gift basket that was a perfect fit for their style.
