I've not had a chance to speak of the outdoor amenities until now. And what might be those outdoor parking lot amenities be? Well they are three new-ish Blink machines! OK, she's gone around the bend this time for sure. No, no stick with me! Blink machines are outdoor chargers for all-electric cars (and for hybrids). You have to apply for the card and it works like a credit card at the gas pump. It's a little more complex than that, but the Blink card and a guardian angel saved Ron and I a miserable afternoon after going up to Multnomah Falls and then running out of charge. Our dear guardian angel charged up a Blink machine for us and saved the day. This is a great place to have the Blink machines because this library is located near the freeway entrances. It's just plain a relief for electric car owners to have them there. I'm trying to do my part to get the word out. Thanks so much Multnomah County Library system for going above and beyond the call of duty!

To hell with new year resolutions, I'm just challenging myself to find activities that make me happy during the dark and stormy months. I've been doing macro nature photography, antiquing, and finding as many opportunities to play in the water as possible. I recently stumbled upon some photos and reviews from the East Portland Community Center pool and I was amazed to find out folks use lazy rivers in pools as walking tracks! Sure, dear reader, you may spend time in gyms and know this to be a "thing," but it's news to me! Well, I tried it out this week and it's quite possibly my new favorite activity! I get to spend time in the water, make new friends, and burn some calories while I'm at it. The community center is vibrant and bustling with all kinds of folks doing activities they love, which makes me really happy. I'm incredibly impressed with how much of a well-oiled machine Portland Parks and Rec is. They are able to get an astounding number of people in/out of this pool each week with swimming classes for beginners, baby and me classes, lap swim sessions, aqua aerobics, current channel walking, free swim, hot tub usage, and so much more! I love seeing my tax dollars being put to use so effectively. This week I've paid for three individual sessions because I wanted to make sure this new interest isn't a passing fancy, but after a few days as a regular at the pool I'd like to take this relationship to the next level. I'm getting a monthly pass tomorrow! So here's to new activities that make us happy in the new year. That's not a resolution, it's just a good way to live life.

While she was sleeping someone took the screen off of the window, pushed the treadmill over and was halfway into the apartment before he dropped his lighter and she woke up. She got up to see what the noise was and he walked right past her. She said he looked her full in the face. We called the non-emergency number and were told to fill out a report online. We did and were told someone would contact us. (The lighter is still laying where he dropped it. No one has touched it. We included this in the report.) We called to see what was happening with our report, had to leave a message and were told they were reviewing it and we would be contacted in 5 days. 5 days later. Still nothing. No one has come out to talk to us or check out the lighter. It's still there. We don't know if he was just taking the opportunity because the window was open or if he saw our daughter and had bad intentions. Truthfully I don't care what his intentions were. I just want someone to come get this damn lighter and act like they give a rats ass that someone tried to come into our house!

He weighed it and He said it would cost $1.01. I told him I had forever stamps and I would like to purchase the difference in cost for stamps for Xmas cards. (I didn't know how much the forever stamps are worth in 2024) That way I could use the forever stamp plus the additional priced stamp ($.28). He told me "just put 2 forever stamps on them". Why would I want to pay $1.46 per Xmas card when it only costs $1.01 to mail them???????? I had to request 3 times for him to sell me the .28 stamps and he acted like I was so putting him out. UGH. I will wait in line to have anyone BUT BRUCE help me next time. It isn't worth the aggravation of being treated like garbage by a federal employee who makes his living from my taxes!!!

It was a sad excuse for a library, but it probably reflected the area's previous bucolic nature. It was reported that, about 25 years ago, the Sunnyside corridor was mostly berry farms. The Happy Valley Library is in a building that is newer and far removed from the mall and the major junction of Sunnyside Rd. and I-205. In a way, this is good and bad. It's good because the location is bigger and newer, but a lot of the catchment area for this library, such as the patron base who lives closer to SE 82nd Avenue, doesn't have the ability to get around, and needs a library's services can't get here as easily. I don't remember what used to be in this newer, larger building. It wasn't designed as a library from scratch, though. The Happy Valley Library is comparable to the West Linn Library of the Clackamas County System in its size and level of services. However, the personalities are very different. This one is very spacious and open, while the West Linn Library is cozier and has more nooks and crannies. The service here is about on par with that of West Linn's, where it is good but a little cool. Is there a connection between gray skies and books that makes library employees more somber? I once walked into a library in Las Vegas only to be greeted with a "sunny disposition." I'll stay on topic. Also, this library is located in an area that appears to be "planned," with a shopping center in front, and a traffic circle with small businesses and park-like features around it. Simply stated, this is a very good neighborhood library.
