It's been about 10 years since I last visited the Midland Library, and wow--what a difference. I knew they remodeled a few years back, but I finally had the chance to come in today, and it honestly feels like a brand-new space. The library feels so much more spacious than before. I really love the natural light coming through the windows, and the paintings and decorations throughout the building make the whole place feel calming and welcoming. It's the kind of environment that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. They also have several conference rooms, ranging from larger rooms to smaller ones, which is great for meetings or quiet study time. On top of that, there's a dedicated kids' area where children can read, play, and just enjoy being in a space designed for them. Overall, this is an easy 5/5. An excellent place to bring your kids, read some books, or just enjoy a peaceful, well-designed library. I'm really glad I came back. read more

They had such an amazing and extensive kids section. With lots of activities and books in so many languages. My toddler spent an hour just happily exploring. But don't walk through the nearby Midland Park unless you want something more illicit than board books. No one bothered us, but we were for sure in the wrong place. read more

Best library on the east side for sure. The building is just the right size for the community it serves, with plenty of tables and nooks for reading or studying. It's clean and bright with a great number of books to check out. What I like best about this place are the community groups who hold meetings here! The library has meeting rooms out by the front entrance that are large for guest speakers, showings and meetings. Always something going on during the weekends. read more

I haven't been back to this library since high school (to tell you the truth, my graduation date is more years ago than I care to admit to), so let me start at the very beginning; a very good place to start with very happy memories of my dear mom who got me addicted to reading in the first place when I was about four or five years old just as my grandmother had done with her. This library was rebuilt I believe about ten to twenty years ago and it is absolutely magnificent with huge vistas of the park behind the library. The parking lot is quite large, and it only seems perfect that there is a coffee shop next door. There is loads of on-street parking on a quiet and wide side street. The indoor portion of the library is nicely sectioned off in to adult and children's libraries, as well as a fine computer section and the computers can be reserved for an hour at a time for free. The library is as neat as a pin and signage is excellent. The staff is just great and extremely helpful. This is the library where I fell in love with the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and this experience really lit a passion in me or history in me (my dad's family came across on The Oregon Trail). It's also the place where I got my first library card at 8. What a treasure it has been as has my association has been with this Multnomah County Library. read more

This is one of my favorite Public Libraries because of the very friendly staff. It's always someone available to assist you with any help. I love it here and I appreciate the staff! Great environment for the kids also. It's a one-level facility, so the Children's side is in plain view for supervising. read more

It's waaaaaaaaaay better than " tiny " Holgate branch (nearby). But it FEELS LIKE THE THIRD WORLD INSIDE - lots of Russian kids, and parents, plus other ethnic groups. Plus: LOTS OF COMPUTERS TO USE. some homeless hang out here too. But, overall, I like it. The interior is "light and airy", with a huge suspended ceiling with lots of light . Park in the back of Library (where somne of the homeless sleep overnight - but it's apparently regulated.) that's all. read more

This is the first library I ventured to in all the years I've lived here in Portland. Back when there was funding for field trips (gasp) we trekked to this library and learned all about its uses. It's pretty big although the only downfall is its parking structure. Throughout the years the selection has grown and has really become a center for many community events for the neighborbood. I love the selection of books, movies, and music readily available. Sure throughout the years, putting stuff on holds has eliminated some of the browsing. It's easier to check items out with the recent upgrades. The staff is pretty friendly and are always there if I need to find a book that is on hold for me and I'm in a blind mode LOL. Sunday's have become a habit for me of making my weeky visit to this branch when I do my errands. I have learned of other places to park when special events do take place on the weekends. I'm happy more funding will continue for the library since we have probably the best library system here in the U.S.! read more

I was really surprised on my first visit to the Midland library this afternoon. I'll be honest... the neighborhood doesn't look very literary. Tucked off on the side of SE 122nd just south of Stark, the Midland Regional Library shares the area with strip clubs, used car lots, and seedy-looking strip malls. It doesn't inspire confidence. I was first impressed by the full parking lot. Maybe noon on Tuesday is a busy time for libraries, but I had a hard time finding a spot in their lot. I soon saw why, as the place was packed! Looking around it all made sense, as the space is beautiful and modern without being intimidating. I am used to the main downtown branch of the library, so of course this satellite location didn't have the massive choices I am accustomed too. However, I was able to find one of the books on my list, so my time was not wasted. And since the library system has a holding and transferring service, if I lived in the area I would use this branch to reserve books and pick them up. Now that I know there is a library (reasonably) close to my work, I will never go bookless through a lunch again! Thanks, multcolib! read more

My Darling Husband and myself were looking at the Midland County Library for some printed out forms for Tax Season. I spoke with the Librarian at the Checkout Desk, and the Librarian at the Information Booth. Glendy F. helped us located the area (it's on the wall by the information booth in the middle of the Midland Library) for the printed out forms. I bought stamps a while ago. My Husband and I do prepare our own taxes... although,... we use a calculator... I mean, you're supposed to... you know. There was a function button for my old Texas Instruments calculator from 1988 for SIN, COS, and TAN but, I only had to use those for some of my quizzes in my high school prior to 1990. There were a few other patrons (Library goers) inside... but, since the Pandemic... the Midland Library is still mostly empty. There were some Tax Instruction booklets for Federal Taxes, and 1099 forms near the Security Checkpoint inside near the Checkout Desk. There's lots. The Midland Library is an introverts haven. Tell your friends that like to read, or check out audiobooks. It's fairly easy to acquire a new Library Card,... a replacement Library Card... or your freshly scanned First Library Card (if you don't currently carry a Multnomah County Library Card). There is a self checkout station. There's maybe five of those... near the front walkway of the Library. And there is usually at least one full time Librarian who knows more than the newbie Librarian at the Checkout Desk (although maybe he is a transfer from a different Library system. This particular branch has a certain charm that makes me feel young. Every time I visit, I feel like I'm 10 again. I love coming here every Sunday. I come here most weeks to volunteer for their Intercambio program. In order to maintain my Spanish-speaking tongue, I help coordinate the program so that English speakers can learn Spanish from the Spanish speakers and vice versa. It's a great environment to be in all around. It's awesome that the Multnomah County Library creates programs like this to actively help the community be immersed and that there are volunteers that want to be a part of it. Watching the little kiddos have fun learning and reading is adorable too. They even have story time and everything at this branch! When I first joined the library system in Portland, I was completely appalled at the limited selection available for perusing. I used to live in Boulder, Colorado, which has an absolutely stunning library that I could get lost in for hours. I then got tipped off to the hold system and I've been in love ever since. Why look through some of the titles on the shelf when you can look through all of the titles online, place a request and get an email when your item is ready? The online catalog is so incredibly massive, I find it hard to believe it can fit in all the libraries. I have searched for some random things I was certain they wouldn't have and lo and behold, there it was. Thanks, library! I love popping in and out of the library just long enough to get what I requested without a hassle. I've taken out everything from novels to cookbooks to music, movies, tv shows, everything! I went through a phase last spring where I think I took out almost every single vegan cookbook the library has to offer. Amazing! I also love the convenience of adding things to my list on the go when people have recommendations for me plus the ability to renew your items up to 50 times (that's almost three years!) is fantastic. Granted, you can't renew if there is a wait for the item, which is a bummer when you take out something you haven't had a chance to finish in three weeks. If you're not currently taking advantage of the Portland library system, you are missing out on one of the greatest resources our town has to offer. Seriously, I just pictured you throwing money in a toilet instead of swiping your library card. What a waste. Go to the library! read more

Loooove this library. There's something about it that just makes you feel comfortable and relaxed down to the smell. I've been to others and they just don't have the same feel to them. The is my go-to for books, movies, the internet and free wifi! Staff is friendly. The kids selection is equally as big as the regular section and they even have cute little small tables where kids can read on their own :) read more

Plenty of parking. Great selection of books of all genres. Staff sometimes friendly, sometimes surly. Constant "click click click" of kids flipping through DVD options is annoying. Great asset to our neighborhood. We come here at least 1x month. 2 meeting rooms that your group can reserve for free 1x month. We hold our HOA meetings here. read more

I really like this place. The staff was very helpful when I wanted to look into either opening a card for myself or one for the youth I work with. They also have various computer and iPad stations for the kiddos and adults. My youth was very pleased with their book selection and how easy it was for her to be able to use/sign up for her iPad time. They also had a great Spanish selection which was nice to see. They appear to have plenty of toddler programs as well, and other story times. read more

You rarely have to wait for a computer and this branch is large and nice.

The book selection is great. We've been to story time a couple times with my son and it was great. They make it a lot of fun, and very interactive. My 2 year old son doesn't even get bored. They also do bubbles before and after which he really loves. The staff is very friendly and helpful. read more
