Wow, wow, wow! I came here for the sole purpose of changing my last name due to marriage. I came at 1:20 on Friday and left at 1:45. Quick right?! Everything was wonderful and extremely easy. I came in the suite B doors as mentioned in the other reviews. Only took 15 minutes of waiting about 5 for the actually go through the paperwork. Well right when I was stepping inside my car, I realized that the guy messed up my address so here I am waiting at the end of the line again. Real dumb. Good job. Once again, the government did it! So for that sole purpose, 3 stars only. Incompetent fools. I recommend coming later around closing time cause no one is really there especially on Friday. Also I brought in my passport and other IDs. They don't really need much. They will just ask you a few questions. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Agents do not even know how to do their job or sound like they want to help when it's literally their job. Y'all needa stop throwing careless people on the phone when it's people's lives y'all are managing! I've faxed in documents for my 6 month old social security card 3 weeks ago I've called at least 5 times and still got no where. One agent literally told me he was thrown on the phone and he never works the phones but he will TRY. And he mentioned that out of 6 hours of calls he could only find one person's documents. My 1 year old daughters social security card had too many n's in her name (McKennna). McKenna was spelled correctly on the birth certificate. Mistake by the Social Security office. I drove to the office to get it corrected. They cant get it fixed, tell me she needs an ID, because of their mistake and no accountability. I showed up at 3:30 today, Friday, to change my name after marriage. Just as I was walking up to the door they were posting a sign on the window that says the office is closed sorry for the inconvenience and the doors were locked. I don't just get to take off work any time to come between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Their hours posted are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday not 3:30 p.m. The guy posting the sign on the window wouldn't even look at me so I could ask a question. Told me I couldn't bring in my coffee as he searched my purse, so I took my coffee back to my car. When I came back in I had to wait in line again for him to check my purse again. If you're coming for a new or replacement social security card you need to go to Suite B NOT the main office. When you pull into the parking lot turn left and follow the road around. Suite B is located in the back left side of the building. The security guard will search your belonings so leave your guns and drugs at home. The staff was very friendly and I was in and out in about 45 minutes. If your changing your name like I was you will have to wait 48 hours before you to go to the MVD to get an updated licence to allow their system to process the change. I was told I'll receive my new card in the mail in 2 weeks. read more

Used the SS card center. Arrived early (before they opened) in order to get good parking and to be seen first. Once arriving (8:15 am) there was already a line of about 10 people. Once the office opens (9 am) they let a few people at a time go up to the 2nd floor. Bags get checked and you proceed to a computer to get a number. Because I was there early I was immediately seen. In and back out to the car in 18 min. Highly recommend arriving early and check the SS website to see what documentation you need. read more

Pros - Mrs. Paul. (Really, that's her name). She was extremely helpful and informative and very pleasant to work with. I left there feeling that I had gotten good information about signing up for Medicare - I've made a further appointment with her for January. One, because I wanted to have her assist me since she's knows my story and two, because the reviews for this location are better than for the location closer to my home. Wait time - it was not unusual to wait about an hour. There were simply a lot of people to be seen. The process seemed very efficient - lots of people were clicked in and out during the hour I waited. Cons - PARKING! The parking situation is abysmal! I've been told that next time, I should park at the church just south of the building - a lot of the SSA employees park there and the church does not mind. Do NOT park at the businesses north of the building - they've towed people. Security - there's nothing to instruct you to stop for the Security guard to search your belongings. When I came in he was busy showing someone how to silence her phone so I followed the signed and moved to the location to register (it was not obvious he was searching her purse). He called me back and told me he had to search my purse. That's fine, but there should have been some kind of a notice so people know what to do. However, he was relatively pleasant - although a bit condescending - about it. All in all, a much better experience than I had expected. read more

I went on a Thursday at about 10:00. If you are going for a SS card pull in and go left. Walked right in, got purse checked, signed in, sat down and my number was called right away. I did get called to window number 8(she doesn't have the best reviews). My experience with her was fine. I did have all the paperwork I needed and it was filled out. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. The whole process took me about 15 minutes. I was dreading having to go and get the SS card. At the end fast, helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly service at a government office! Plus I got the card in the mail in a week. My experience was great! read more

I'm growing sick and tired of places who hire people who don't care about anybody or their job. I go to the SS admin office to get a new SS card (getting a name change after marriage). I go on my day off after a OB appointment and I have my 8mo old son with me. I check in and receive a print out number tag. I'm hearing the numbers being read off by the people that work there and I'm feeling good that there wasn't many people in front of me. Unfortunately, there is one older lady that works there with a not-so-strong voice. I heard the number that follows after mine so I'm thinking that my number was skipped. Long story short, I go up to the window of the lady with a soft voice and tell her that my number was skipped. She doesn't even look me in the eye and tells me, in a non caring way, that she announced the number and no one came to the window. I go to the security guard and I tell him that my turn came and gone and he just shrugged his shoulders. He said that that wasn't his area to deal with. I'm fuming by now since I did everything I was supposed to. The numbers on the tv screen weren't even updated, so I guess the employees there didn't want the people to know where they stand in line. I had to re-check in and get a new number. I was fortunate enough that I came when the office wasn't busy. I was told before that Wednesdays around noon is a good time to go. So I came when it was convenient. Finally when my second number was called, I told another lady that the older lady needs to speak louder and that I missed my turn in line. The lady told me that the microphones weren't working at the time and that the employees don't want to constantly speak loud for number calling. But in my head, that shouldn't be my problem. And if that was the case, there should have been some warning to the people waiting. No one I talked to would even try to fix any of the issues. I told the lady that I hope no one goes through what I went through. People have things to do and places to go. I would think people working in a federal office would at least act professional. read more

From the moment we walked in the building, we were approached with the security guards' hand to our face. He was so rude and not helpful in any way. He said check in, WITH NO OTHER INFORMATION, like... grab the clipboard to fill out further information? That would have been helpful. When I approached the desk, asking if I needed to fill out any paper work? He was basically whispering and repeating himself and not answering my question... I took the paper work and filled it out anyway. Good thing I did because the lady at the window needed it... During the 1 hour wait my boyfriend and I observed the "security guard" yell at a man, telling him he needed to sit down. The man was using the desk to fill out his paper work. He informed him that was what he was doing. HE DID NOT OFFER A CLIPBOARD TO THE MAN. One more thing to add. Half the employee's microphones weren't working... window number 8, was BAD!! She basically whispered the number aloud. My boyfriend ended up yelling them out loud because she skipped over a person who didn't hear her. Dealing with this SS office has been an absolute nightmare! After my taxes and wages were garnished, I discovered that my parents were overpaid child support for me when I was a minor. As an adult SS wants ME to pay them back (thousands of dollars). I've left 5 messages (over a couple months span) and finally someone called me back a week after my last message. I was at work but received a voicemail that I was going to get a letter to set an appointment to meet with someone on my case. Once again they are garnishing my wages (for the third time) after putting a stop to it before. I can't get a call back from anyone or a straight answer. The staff is extremely unhelpful and clearly not doing their job. If you need to take care of your SS business I suggest you find another location. RUN!!!!! read more

I could not be happier with the experience my husband and I had today at the Social Security office on Tatum. We called this week to make an appointment in advance and found out that that wouldn't happen before October (at least 7 weeks). So, we drove to the location, arriving around 2:15. The security guard was kind and knowledgeable. We used the touch screen to sign in and were called to a window around 45 minutes later. We expected a wait. It wasn't that bad! We accomplished the first item on our list, but asked a question which the employee said would best be answered by another representative. We sat down to wait and were greeted by Patricia in a few minutes. She carefully answered our questions and gave us info about spousal benefits that we had previously misunderstood. We left in a better financial situation than we had even expected. We walked out around 4:50. It was a wonderful, valuable experience. We were treated graciously and professionally. My recommendation is that anyone should feel happy to go to this office. It was well worth it for us. We left well informed and felt like we were lucky to be helped by such caring people! read more

I thought it would be a long wait. I went two years ago and waited a few minutes outside then a couple hours inside before being helped. Today I had to go again to update my status from resident to citizen. I got there at 8:30am (Friday) and waited outside in a long line. At 8:55 they started letting people in. I finally got inside just after 9am. I just sat down when a lady directed me to an open window. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. For the wait outside, bring a folding chair and something cold to drink, the rest is easy and quick!! From the security guard outside, to the guard inside checking bags, the lady directing people and the lady helping me - they were all very friendly and helpful. read more

I went to this office on Monday 06/30/2014. After a 2 hour wait, I was directed to go to the "second office around back" which I did. I took my number waited 30 min and then was called to window 2. The reason for my visit was Identity theft. Prior to going to SSA, I signed on line and reviewed their pmos which gives specifics on what needs to be done per case. I made sure I had all required documents, police reports and filed with the appropriate agencies prior to my visit. When I met the lady at window two, I told her why I was there, and she promptly said "we don't issue new numbers". I Informed her that indeed they do, if the proper documentation was preset as per the SSA manual. She asked if I was receiving benefits, I told her I was , however I had documented proof of Identity theft and in fact the person tried to change my SSA info, which I also had proof of. Signed and Documented. She told me flat out, that it was impossible to get re issued a new number if you were already collecting. And that if I signed on line that that was noted "all over the site as well as in the pamplets. I told her she was wrong, and I asked her to show me where it stated that ANYWHERE in their informational hand outs or on line. She could not, and I handed her their own pamphlet which says exactly what needs to be filed, where it needs to be filed, as well as it is MY decision, not hers to request a new number, and, if I meet the guidelines lined out by the LAW, then I do qualify to be re issued a new number. I had all documents with me, but she refused to look at them. She then told me exactly, "I have to prove that this has been an on going problem for many years" and since that's impossible to prove, and needs to come from someone else but me, that it cant be done. I told her, if I was that stupid to let it continue for years, then I should not get anything anyway, and that statement wasn't not true. This woman made me feel as though I was trying to defraud someone when in fact my Social Security, and financial has been extremely compromised, documented by law enforcement and the FTC, and by my creditors and a Lawyer, and she lied right to my face saying that I couldn't accomplish what her own employee manual said I should do when faced with this issue. She then told me to wait, and she would be right back, She left, and never came back. I waited at her window while her co-worker came in with a bag full of McDonalds and chatted with a friend on the phone for 30 min. This woman, who I can describe as medium blonde to light brown shoulder length hair, heavy set, and she apparently had nested at her window because there was more personal garbage on the walls and not SSA information to research what she was saying, is horrible, and obviously a long time employee. She has no business making determinations especially when she never even asked what happened, she just assumed I didn't have the stuff necessary, and If I did, it didn't matter because "we don't do that". Let me inform you of a thing or two here. This applies to everyone at the SSA. You, the individual, do not make determinations. Ever. You are not god and you are not employed to judge anyone on anything. Regardless of what you think you are, you are simply a paper pusher to the next level. This is how it works, and this is what the public needs to know. Everything with Social security is already predetermined based on the law that is written in the manual. This ensures there is no prejudice, or self rightouse individuals to screw things up like this woman did to me. It is written in Black and white, for every situation, there is a criteria and procedure to be met, when it is met, it goes to the next "robot" who check to see if the criteria is met, then to the next. all the employees are to do is check to be sure the paperwork is in line and pass it to the next. that is it. If it is not, it goes back to you to start again, if it meets the written guideline, it moves forward in process till complete. The employees at social security have no right, legally or morally to decide anything at all about you or your situation. They simply are there to make sure you met the guidelines outlines be law, and to move you down the line . Nothing more. If anyone tells you different, simply inform them that their job is to enforce the policies and laws of the SSA according to the exact guidelines outlined in the pmos that they have redily available to them , as do you. It is online , google social security pmos and look up the criteria you need to meet for what ever issue you are having, and meet it before you even bother going in, tht way, when some off the cuff woman gives you invalid information and refuses to help you, or is showing something other than empathy for your situation, youll have a leg to stand on. They herd people through like cattle, only a quarter of the windows were staffed and they were extremely rude and unpleasant. I went to have a name change filed and the man who helped me rolled his eyes, didn't want to answer any of my questions and never gave me a receipt or any proof that I was there (he told me they didn't provide receipts when I asked him). Then a week later when I went to the dmv to have my license updated I found out the jerk never processed my paperwork at all and they had no record of the request. I spoke with someone from the Philadelphia call center, a woman who was very disinterested in my call and had a bad attitude. She said there was no record at all that I had been there and hung up on me in the middle of me asking her questions about what I can do. She explained that they didn't do anything about it and I would just have to wait a few weeks and see if they chose to process the paperwork I filled out at this office. It's basically a hot f***ing mess and nobody knows what they are doing. I am so disheartened that these are the people employed to process paperwork that directly affects out identities.
