I had to stop by Social Security to obtain a replacement copy of a form for taxes. I feared the visit because I didn't have an appointment but I really needed this document to complete taxes. As you enter, the security guard will go through any bags that you take in. He does ask if you have an appointment. I explained what I needed and he told me they could help without an appointment. Great! I was directed to the kiosk to check in and get my number for staff assistance. They were 5 staffers working. I noticed that service seemed fairly quick so I was hopeful the wait would be short. If the wait was long, I would have to leave for my other appointment. Numbers are called over a PA system and a board on the wall shows what number is being helped and which window. That's helpful. There is a last call for a number if you didn't hear the original call. About 40 minutes later, my number was called. I was quickly helped and received what I wanted. Not bad at all. Shared parking lot. read more

Like just about everyone else in the US I had to go get some business done at the social security office and was not looking forward to the hours of waiting, the uncomfortable chairs, overcrowded waiting areas where you can smell what the person had for lunch, or any of the other fun things that go along with this chore..however, all that changed when we visited this office! Parking was a breeze, we walked right in to a clean, spacious, somewhat stark yet comfortable office. We were immediately greeted by the officer in charge who guided us through the process and made sure it all went down without a hitch. He was extremely friendly and it was all so easy. We only waited about 5 minutes and were called to a window where the woman behind the tempered glass was professional, proficient, and polite (alliteration there fyi). She entered in my information and got all the paperwork finished and us on our way to enjoy the rest of our day. We were there maybe a total of 15 minutes and did not have an appointment or anything. I could not have been more impressed. Save yourself from those other social security offices and get your business done at this location. However, upon arrival, many elderly people were in need of services, and the security officer was probably just doing his job, but kept telling them that they needed to make an appointment online. One woman was almost in tears saying she didn't have a phone. The office could improve the overall experience for these vulnerable groups, such as offering alternative methods for appointments or adding human interaction where possible. We went to this Social Security Office on 15th of September to obtain some information on a very delicate situation. I know that we would need a specialist, we were called and was told by the lady that we would have to wait until one of the more advanced people could help us, we went back and waited and then we were called, we didn't even have a chance to sit down, the person just said what do you need? We did sit down though, we explained what we were inquiring about , she said I can't help you but we will call you and send you letter to make an appointment. Well it has never happened. So since we only live 1 mile for the other Social Security office on Thomas we will go there. We were told that the one that we went to was very reliable and organized. Really? No its not. Social security has stopped walking in . You have to make an appointment now or use the computer. I tried the computer and was blocked it said that I had to contact SSI. I did they unblocked me but it did not matter I am still blocked. I moved two doors down and changed my address well my first payment was due and it never showed up was sent to old address. My wife and I both got turned down for SSI saying that we said we did not want it. Really why would anyone sign up if they did not want it. I sit on the phone waiting on permanent hold trying to talk to anyone. I would like my check before I am put out on the street. I am trying to retire like no more job but SSI has become very hard to deal with. They told me my check had not been cashed that they would issue a new one on Thursday. Ya... That did not happen. Check still not cashed now they say it has to be returned. I would return it if I could find it . It never came to my mail box. So now I spend 5 hours a day sitting on hold because the option of a call back is not offered any more. Ya.. I just love social security. Oh when you finally get a check it will pay your rent maybe and if you work you get fined. So starve till you become full retirement age. If you wait for full retirement age chances are you are dead by then. At 65 you are forced to take Medicare. Stay working and leave SSI alone. I will soon be joining the street people I fought for a year to get it and still no check. Good luck I have gone through every penny I had trying to get it. Maybe it was just me that all of this happened to I don't know but I am frustrated and there is no walk in just set an appointment for a date way out. I hope I get my check before the appointment date. You need an appointment to tell them that they sent your check to the wrong address. Really ? One thing I can say ,all of the people there are very nice. Every time I have had to go to the office all of the people are professional and nice to talk to. I just wish they could stream line some of the problems you run into . Maybe a number you can call to have a check cancelled and a new one made out. Maybe once you sign up there is someplace you can call or maybe give you a dedicated case worker so you have someone to contact if things get messed up. One lady said my check would be reissued on Thursday. I called on Thursday and a man explained that it had to be returned then they would put the right address on it and send it again. There should be a number to contact if you have problems. Signing up took a year. Now getting a check has become difficult and I am not kidding when I say this could land me on the street. I had about a years savings now I have nothing left and I retired a year ago I was dumb I thought you could sign up and just start getting paid. Love and learn ? Discrimination at its finest. My husband and I have been trying to get our son his social security and they keep lying to us. They treat me differently over the phone and act like I'm doing something wrong. I have the biological mothers consent in writing and all documents submitted. I called a third time to check on the documents... they told me they were mailed. Called last week and they said they had trouble finding it and someone would call me.... sure thing, no one called... Called this morning and they can't find them again.... I get that COVID is a thing but it's not an excuse for everything. It should not keep people from doing their job accurately. Accompanied my 78 year old aunt to this office today. Maria Gaffney refused to help us, because my aunts address is in Tucson. We have been to this office 7 times before and it has never been an issue. She was rude, condescending, and unwilling to help, claiming everyone prior to her had helped "out of courtesy", but she was not going to. She asked why I couldn't take her to Tucson (none of her business) and also asked how my aunt traveled to Phoenix from Tucson (again, none of her business, but I let her know she had come up in a shuttle). I asked for her name, to which she responded "would you like me to spell it out?" And proceeded to do so, and well, here we are now. I was number E-31 I arrived at 1:45 or so to get a replacement card. It's been a while. Almost thirty years since I lost my original one. LOL Since everyone is so security conscious these days, I thought I should get a replacement. Just in case someone would want to steal it. I never had a reason to before, still don't. One of the side benefits of working for the same company for so long. I arrived and was asked by the armed security guard if I had any pointy objects, knives, guns or a cellphone. I said no, no, no and yes. I was told to mute the cellphone. LOL I said thank you, hit the touch screen for my number and proceed out the door to Del Taco for lunch. I came back an hour later and they were at E-94. Fearing I had missed my number, I went up to an open window and I was told no. Forty five minutes later they did call my number. I handed her my pre-printed and filled out form. She asked for my Drivers License, and a few questions. I had to swear that all the information I gave her was the truth under penalty of incarceration. She was very pleasant. I wished her a nice day! read more

My experience today was top notch. I arrived @ 8:50 ish to a small line. Once the doors opened I was met by a friendly yet stern security guard. Was given my number and waited approximately 15 minutes before my number was called. Met with Mr B who was a diamond. He helped me with a complicated issue with a pleasant demeanor, a great sense of humor and extreme professionalism. The office was spotless...along with the restroom. They make you make appointment to still waste your entire day waiting in the lobby for service. Had to wait two weeks for my appointment and they are calling numbers out of order. Almost 5 years into marriage and I decided it was time to finally legally change my name... Part of the reason that it took me so long was the dreaded process of going to the Social Security Administration office amongst a handful of others. But I bit the bullet and took step number one which landed me here. I walked into the wrong entrance and was quickly told I needed to enter on the other side of the building. No big deal... As I walked, I crossed my fingers that the line wouldn't be as long as the first side. And when I entered over there, it didn't look too bad. I think I waited approximately one hour and then met with my "agent" for about five minutes to take care of my own paperwork. Step one of the name change taken care of... hooray! Only about 6 other steps to go (before hitting up credit card, bank, airlines, etc...) Wish me luck! A few things to note if you are heading to this office: There are no drinks allowed, no computers allowed, and your phone must be kept on silent. You may also want to call ahead to check their hours as they close early on certain days of the week. Good luck! read more

As other reviews have said if you are looking to change your name Suite B is around the corner from the main entrance so park / walk in on that side. Both entrances have a security guard that will ask why you are there and will ensure that you get checked in. If you have a bag or purse, they will ask to check it for any weapons and then request that you put your cell phone on silent or vibrate. I didn't have an appointment, but since we recently got married, I needed to request a new SS card in order to get my name updated. I received a ticket from the security guard that checked me in and I was about 4 numbers off from the most recently called one. I waited about five minutes in a chair before my number was called (side note: if you go at lunch time, they will have less windows open - so if you can, try going during the earlier morning, or a bit after lunch to ensure you get seen). Be sure to check their website before going so you can print and fill out the application form and have it ready to go. It's also a great resource for being able to know what to bring with you so you don't have to make a return trip. I had my passport, birth certificate, driver's license and marriage license. It took about five minutes for the clerk behind the counter to type in all my information and I was ready to go! She was fast, efficient and friendly. The security guard was helpful and funny. If you're looking for name changes/corrections make sure to read the signs that say Suite B! It literally is right around the corner. I was extremely impressed! It took me only about 5 minutes to get done what I needed & there was almost no wait time. I was skeptical since I always hear people complain about what a long process it is getting your name changed, but it was quick & easy in my opinion. Make sure to visit ssa.gov prior to your visit to make sure you have the appropriate documentation to do whatever it is you need to do. Theres also plenty of parking, but like I said, just know what side of the building you need to beat the heat! read more

Got checked in and returned to the waiting area. 10 minutes later we are with Patricia. She did a great job and was very efficient. She was able to also find some extra benefits for my wife. Super easy process to get a new SS card after changing your last name due to marriage. When driving in you want to go all the way to the left hand side of the building. There is a separate door for new cards. You will walk in, security will check your bag, and then you check in on computer and wait till your number is called. I went on Monday at 3pm and there was only 3 people ahead of me so it went very quickly. I had all my paperwork ready to go so I was called up, and out the door in 5-10min. Super easy process! For a speedy process make sure to bring: 1. Driver license or passport 2. New card application (Print online from SS site) 3. Certified marriage certificate with lifted notary stamp Once that is complete they update the system, mail you a SS card, and then you get a temporary paper that you can take to the DMV to change your driver license. They say to wait 2 days before going to DMV so the system fully updates. read more

I came here around 2:30 PM on a Monday. No appointment options offered just walk-ins and you get a number; very similar to DMV. The place was packed. I waited about an hour until my number was called. I would advise to have all forms, photo ID, passports, birth certificates etc ready to go and filled out prior to coming to expedite the process. (So many people don't listen to the intercom or read directions before they're called, slowing down the process....shocking ‍)It was clean inside but screaming kids everywhere in a close confined room. Definitely not one of my favorite places to go but they moved through the line fairly quickly. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! They mail replacement cards out in a week. read more

This is NOT a review for a New ss card . I'm legal Guardian for a young man that was born disabled. Every 3 to 7 years SS calls up to redetermine benefits needed. Ok, I did a lengthy phone interview and was asked to come in with Legal papers ( That I already gave them) and some other stuff. They set the appointment, I was there 15 mins early. You check in, asked to put phone on vibrate. And if your on the phone while waiting an announcement comes on to step outside- helpful if someone is loud. My 2 problems are the following: 1. This is worse than the Doctors office. You tell me 10:30am and I don't get seen until almost 11:30.. 2. On the Lengthy interview I was asked to bring in specific paperwork. During the interview I bring up those papers and staff is like- "We don't need those". Keep in mind I was sent ( In writing) specific papers to bring, also a form to sign and date which she didn't want to collect. I asked her to just copy them so I am not called back to do this all over......we'll see read more

Best steakhouse in all of Arizona. It's so good they have a security checkpoint at the door. It's not BYOK (bring your own knives) friendly, but the atmosphere and food was so good, I almost forgot about the voice over the speakers calling out random numbers. They also require your social security number to get, which I will admit was a bit weird. Overall, it's a strange but once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend! Unless you're white, be prepared to get racial profiled and declined for "unable to verify citizenship" even if you show them your passport and documents. You don't even need to be a citizen for a ssn card. They will also lose all your documents on purpose and act like it's not their problem read more

What a terrible experience. This is the government at its finest. I needed replacement social security cards for my kids and I researched everything I needed online, including their hours of operation. The first time I went they were closed (different hours). The second time I was told I needed different paperwork, so I went home and collected everything I was told. The third time I was again told I needed different paperwork and to bring the kids with me. The fourth time everything was finally processed - it only took an hour. Bathroom facilities were also "unavailable" and the walk to the available facilities was about a block and a half away, which for those of use some sort of device to either walk or to prevent falls, is unreasonable. Before my daughter 18 yr old daughter went to the office to replace her lost card we looked online for other acceptable forms of ID. It said birth certificate along with school ID. She went to the office on Tatum Blvd in Phoenix and was denied a replacement card even though she had her birth certificate, school id, and drivers permit. Ridiculous! Why have student ID listed if it is not an acceptable form of ID. I called to make a complaint and as soon as I stated why I was calling I was told no one was available to speak to. read more

Had the most positive experience in a government building when I visited to get my social security card. I literally walked in, checked in with the security guard, she gave me my ticket, checked my bag for weapons, and I sat down for literally 4minutes and was called up to a window. It was about noon when I visited on a Friday to get my Social Security Card, and the representative was super pleasant and helpful.
