One week into summer break and we're already looking for all the ways to get out and stay cool! Brought my son here this afternoon. The parking lot is a little small and not that close to the entrance, but they have parking garages available too. They have a nice selection, my son enjoyed the little books in the ages 5 and under section. Staff was super helpful, I didn't have a Phoenix public library card so I got one and it was quick and easy. Will for sure be back and checking out the other Phoenix public libraries. read more

I read a lot of books. This is my closest branch but I love visiting this place. You can fax for free (yes that is still a thing) copies are cheap and most of all, they have a community room with daily activities for all ages. The check in and check out process is so quick . So if you are in a hurry , you can check books back in outside. The librarians are all very nice and helpful. When I look for a book that's suppose to be on the shelf and can't find it, they will go in the back to check without complaint and I appreciate them for doing so. Always a great experience when I visit this library branch. read more

It's ok. The closest to my house so it'll have to do. But there are many times that I have came here for story time with my kids and I was rejected of entry! They are so strict with their capacity, it's unfortunate to people like me who have to really work to get here on time only to hope me and my kids have a seat!! I love that they open earlier than most libraries, at 9am. I've been using the computer to work on my resume here. I am super disappointed in Corrine and the light brown haired girl in customer service. I left my expensive prescription glasses there and Corinne was so confused and unhelpful about it. I suggested she put a note UNDER my glasses with my name after I had to teach her how to describe glasses style to me or me describe the glasses to her.... She doesn't even know basic service questions on how to identify lost items. when I went to pick them up, either her or the customer desk had actually scotch taped a post it note ON THE LENS OF MY GLASSES. I mentioned it to the customer service desk how destructive and inappropriate that is and that you don't put scotch tape or anything on the lens of glasses and she needed to report that so it's not done to someone else, and the brunette just stared at me like an alien. I want someone to teach their staff how to retrieve and care properly for patrons lost items. Very dissatisfied with the lack of knowledge and customer service especially since I remember Corinne wearing glasses. She would not want her lens scratched up like that. Prescription designer eyewear costs about 300-400 dollars. FYI people !!!!! read more

Book Fans in PARADISE VALLEY.. Great place to take your Book Donations! Read 2 new books in less than 7 days. What does that mean? I have way too much time on my hands? So once again, I have to throw my Hat into workforce and I applied for a job at a Phoenix' Public Library. I love people! I love to be of service . Also I will helping others . What a gift the library is in our community. Love the ability to request books & videos online and you are notified when available & then can stop by for a quick pickup when you don't have time to visit & leisurely browse. Staff are always friendly & helpful when looking for suggestions - location is always bright & clean. Great library! Only downside is the 'signature requesting' people outside the library that try and accost you when entering or leaving the building - they need a designated holding area. read more

This is in Phoenix. The staff here were patient and helpful to assist me. I was impressed with their level of service. I got a brief run down of the collection. I almost gave 5 stars but there is no drive by drop off for materials I borrow. Also no pick up window . Though the book sale selection is small, I was able to score several great deals. read more

The library location is a bit difficult to navigate and park at. The building and facilities are average in size. There is not much to offer in the kids section. The reason for the low rating is there were multiple board books pushing homosexuality in the BABY BOARD BOOK section. read more

Love this library! I've been bring my little one here since she was 6months- she's 1 now. We go Monday for their baby store time and Thursday for the family story time. Monday's are so much fun- my little one has learned SO much from it. She loves the "hello hello" song and she's learned to clap, stomp and dance from of us going since she was a infant. The teacher is wonderful too! Thursday's are pushed more for the little older girl 2 on up but babies are welcome as well. The only difference is they don't get free play in this one. My little one enjoys the different songs and books that are read. The teacher is awesome! You won't regret making this your library! read more

I love to read and have spent way too much at bookstores or Amazon on books these past few years. This past year, I learned the secret for book lovers...take advantage of your local library. They offer so many great opportunities not just for reading but for so much else, too! My nearest library is the Mesquite Branch Library, which I went into more than a year ago for the first time...since I had spent countless hours there as a kid. Yes, this is my same library I once knew so well with a card catalog and endless rows of books, but now kids are not familiar with card catalogs and there seem to be less books, but not to the detriment of finding what I'm looking for. It took only minutes to register for a new library card where I even got a keychain card so that I always have it on me. I've found that most books I am looking for are readily available; however, if they aren't, I can easily see where they are available (at other libraries) or place a hold online and have another library transfer the book to my library. I even got to check out one of my books using Libby, a service similar to Kindle where I could read my book using my phone. One of the library staff members helped me learn how to do this. Yes, the staff are one of the best parts of the library. They are so helpful!! In addition to the adult area, there is a teen area and a kid's area with many great offerings for both groups. All of the libraries in town also have some great programs from the summer-time reading challenge with great prizes for kids and adults alike (yes, there are adult reading challenges which can land you some of your own free books and more). There are also some great events (mostly free) taking place around the different libraries in town. I enjoy their mailing list e-mails which are very informative about books, events, and more. They have book clubs and even an area where they sell books for almost nothing. Oh, and then there are the Culture Passes, where you can check out a first-come, first-serve pass to one of many great museums or locations (including the Desert Botanical Gardens) for free like you're checking out a book. Along with finding a new doctor and a hairstylist, locating the library was one of my first tasks when I moved to Phoenix. In the current digital age, I was surprised at how busy our Phoenix Public Library is. I have been an avid reader since childhood and while I admit that the e-readers have changed my literature habits, sometimes a real paper book with pages you can turn is what I need. My friends think I am weird but I "need" to read hard-cover cookbooks with photos and can spend all day examining recipes. Unfortunately, this can get expensive when you only want one or two recipes from a $25 book. The library is my resource where I can change my mind endlessly and spend as long as I want. There is a lot going on at the library and mothers with children were abundant on my last visit. You can check out movies and I noticed the staff will print items for patrons. There were various programs and workshops available. One of my favorite services is the library's culture passes. Various local attractions allow admission for two on a culture pass. You check it out just like a book and have a week to use it. It's a great way to see what's available and check out a museum at no cost, especially good when it turns out not to be what you were expecting or not what you have an interest in. The staff is very accommodating and I have had wonderful luck discovering local authors or getting suggestions from some very knowledgeable employees. It's a great place to spend a few hours in air-conditioned comfort on a hot day. There is parking next to the building and an outside book drop-off (I wish it was drive-up) that is helpful if the library is closed. read more

Everyone who works at this branch is extremely helpful. Even the security guard sat and read with the kids for a while. They have a ton of movies and if you use their website to put things on hold, then you never have to hunt down anything (unless you're like me and you enjoy the hunt!). They have great programs for kids both in the library and online as well. A must-visit during the summer months especially! If you need a computer, or internet, those are free as well! read more

The employees here are always very helpful it's clean and they have many activities for mommy and me classes. They have a see room of online books available as well as DVD's , audio , magazine etc. they also offer cultural passes that you can check out and go to places free although I've only been able to get my hands on 2 passes in 2 years I guess people line up for them. read more

I love this library because it is near my house, but let's face it how can you go wrong with a library adjacent to the Paradise Valley Mall. Also close to my bank and Costco this is awesome! So I use the library for getting all my books, music and movies if Netflix doesn't have what I want and my favorite part is the little key chain library card I always have it with me so when I get my email reminder that I have a hold waiting to be picked up viola I can pick it up on my way home, park right out front in the 5 min zone and within minutes I am home enjoying my selection. read more

I out my books on hold and have them transferred from whatever library has it to my preferred location then I get an email when it's ready and they are on a specific set if shelves! Easy! Shame on you!!! I walk into this location, because it is closest to me. I am in a already very delicate state.. my 76 year old mother had a very bad fall last week, and is now going to be suffering from dementia for possibly ever. My family and I have been trying to get all her affairs in order. One of the things I noticed was her rentals from the library. I gathered what I can find, but I'm not sure if I got everything. I walked in w what I have and her last rental receipt. I tell customer service a glimpse of what happened, and tell her I just want to make sure I am returning everything. In a rude tone, she responds that she cannot give away any personal information if our accounts are not connected. I don't want personal information, I just want to do right for the library and make sure I'm returning everything. They could have just looked at what I was bringing in, and confirm or deny! They don't even need to tell me what is missing, because knowing will help me know to look for others. The last thing my family or mother need is notifications and fines from the library for over dues. This is why people download books and buy .. customer service at all libraries is rediculous. This can qualify as elder abuse if they harass her for late fees. I hope this location is proud of itself! read more

We love mesquite library! They have a great kids area (which any good library should have for the local youth) and we recently used their seed library to grow a huge gorgeous garden! They have a good selection and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful! I have been to almost every library in Scottsdale and PhD and this one is a great one if you have children! read more

Where's the" SHHHHHHHHHHH!"? Went here to STUDY and the place is just as loud as your neighborhood Starbucks. I'm not THAT old, mid-twenties, BUT why do I feel so old? I want to tell all these people, "back in my day, when I was a little girl we weren't allowed to talk on our cell phones, carry on conversations, or comment on websites while surfing the library's internet." Its a really nice library. Great A/C. Right next to the mall. Feels clean and safe. Have event scheduled throughout the month for its patrons (which can be easily accessed online.) Besides everyone disregarding their Library 101 skills, I'm also disappointed in the hours of this branch. Closes at 5 most weekdays. Maybe I could form a different opinion if I was allowed to go to this branch on a more frequent basis ;) read more

I grew up at this library. And now I am old and married and hope to someday take my very own kids to this library. They have a great selection of audio books. I am a major audio book fan and this is the place to be! Clean, safe, you are not bothered by stranger dangers. I dig this library. read more

Update: I'm DONE with this library. This library has gone seriously down hill! The librarians are all on power trips. For example: Talking at a normal voice in the KID area & being told to be quiet. Making me wait until 9:45am when it's 9:42am for tickets to the Storytime. Lastly, telling my 18 month old to sit during Storytime when he was standing/walking while listening. Get over yourselves! Don't bother coming here - from now on I'll go out of my way to go to a different library! Many good things about this library branch! They offer a variety of story times for children of all ages. Their proximity to PV Mall (waking distance) is great for an activity before or after storytime. That being said, I believe the librarians who teach Storytime could be more engaging with the kids. Occasionally, the Storytime is funded by First Things First and those teachers (Jesse & Allyson) are AWESOME! read more

I haven't used my library card in over a year (no idea how i racked up the $20 in over-due fees). Anyhow, what i luv about this place? The used book corner. This is where u can snag mags, children's books, novels, cd's, videos, altas, library discards, ect. I like donating my books, but I LOVE picking thought the selection of goodies for 25 & 50 cents. Reminds me, my shelves are over-flowing - time to donate again. read more

This library is small yes, but I can't help but love it. Mesquite is probably responsible for me knowing how to read. That and the fact my mom dragged me here all the time. Although I realize how small and old this Library is, like most old things it has a lot of character. This Library has been flooded, rebuilt, and expanded all in the past ten years. Everything is open and very easy to navigate. Another thing that amazes me about this Library is the amount of books they fit into such a small space. Based on all the books you can find here the size is not important at all. Sure you won't find a ton of places to sit and relax,but the book you want will probably be here. If you have kids or take care of them Mesquite offers a teen group as well as summer reading programs, story times, performances, and crafts. I'm really grateful my mom dragged me here all the time because it gave me a great love of reading and respect for literature. Not much room to sit and read/work in peace. The east side of the library is more of a free daycare for loud and noisy kids. Perhaps it's just a few parents who DGAF. Wish there was a someone to police the area, but having toys available for these kids to make noise with doesn't help. read more

This is a great neighborhood library. You can park in the mall's covered lot, and cross the teeny little road to get to this library. If you weren't already "in the know", you can reserve any Phoenix library item online, and have it delivered to the library of your choice, for pickup. That's what I do, do when I go to the library, it's generally to pick up something on hold, and then to peruse the shelves for an unfamiliar read, or a DVD. Inside, it's comfortable. The "reserved" books section is well organized. My kids can always find some fun read. Picture this nice summer day (mom w/ kids -style): Park in the covered lot. Take the kids to a matinee at the theater in the mall. Get a little lunch at the food court. Go to the library. No need to move the car- you've parked once and the car is still in the shade! read more

The hubs comes to this library with our little man more than I do, but the few times I have tagged along with them, the place seems great. There are always activities going on for the little tykes. There's a quiet play area in the children's section where our son likes to build towers. There's also a bunch of computers that he can go to to play some online games (nickjr, disneyjr, pbskids, etc.). Whenever the hubs puts a book on hold, he gets an email to let him know that it's in. The checkout system is self serve and pretty convenient. The culture passes seem really cool, too, although we haven't taken advantage of that yet. read more

A welcome contrast to the sprawling blandness of its neighbors-the strip malls, the Paradise Valley mall, Costco-is the small but shapely Mesquite Branch Library. It was designed by Will Bruder, the don of Phoenix architecture who also gave us the Burton Barr Library. Much smaller than its cousin, the Mesquite Branch still manages to provide decent functionality within its attractive facade. I spent a fair amount of time in the the library this summer trying to cut my utilities bill. I felt they always had the AC pumping adequately. Finding a seat, however, was sometimes a problem. There just isn't enough table space. The library seems focused on serving children, to whom most of the free space is dedicated. It's hard to complain too much about that. For adults, there are plenty of DVDs and audio recordings. The spotty book selection is bolstered by the interlibrary loan system. The newspaper selection is OK but the magazine shelf is poor. In the Used Book Corner, I can always find one or two great books for under a $1. If you have a laptop you should bring it, since the line for the computers is always long. Despite being designed to serve a much smaller community, and undergoing serious budget cuts, the Mesquite Branch still serves the area well. And it does so with great visual flair. In addition to the architecture, Lewis Alquist's Whorlpath-an outdoor garden with terrazzo patio-is a great place to relax with a book. Weather permitting, of course. read more

I have been to this library a few times now, usually to pick up some books that are on hold or to quickly return some books. The location is ideal and yet not. It's great because it is near the Paradise Valley Mall and if you need to get some shopping done, awesome. However, if you just want to get in and out quickly, that's a little more difficult because you are near a mall that is busy, busy, busy! Cars are zipping in and out of the mall parking lot/loop and it can be difficult to get out of the library. Plus the parking lot for the actual library is on the small side and it is U shaped. So if you don't find parking, you have to leave and come back in to circle back around. Despite this, the inside is nice and has a nice lay out. I'd recommend this library just for the convenience. read more

I used to love this library, but I found staff and security are addressing the wrong issues. The other day, I was not approached, but attacked for having fruit snack packages. I'm an adult who knows how not to get sticky fingers on books. It was so demeaning! They do nothing about loud talkers on cell phones or screaming children, but have to find a scapegoat. Staff Not as friendly. One shout out to sweetheart librarian Charlene. She's Always friendly and nice to me. read more

I frequent this library mainly for the children's section. I enjoy the layout of this library. The children's section is equipped with several computers for all ages. There are also plenty of puzzles and books to play with. There is a magnetic board and a felt board for the children to explore. I have tried the story time for the toddlers and my one complaint is due to the popularity of it, the room in which its held can become stuffy and a little claustrophobic. The upside to this is, they hold an overflow story time in the open play area to accommodate those who did not get into the designated room. I have also noticed security is obvious and present. There is a guard who frequently patrols the library. read more

You want to know how old I am? I was here when this opened. (Story time) I was in grade school. I was SO excited because the only other library in North Phoenix before this one was built was (and I kid you not) a green and white one room mobile trailer on 32nd street near Thunderbird. As a voracious reader, I'd pretty much burned through the entire kids section and a good chunk of the adult section by the time this new library was built when I was 10. We watched it being built and Oooo-d and Aaaaaa-d over it's super modern architecture. I was so excited that Mom let me miss school for the day to be there for the opening ceremonies where speeches were made about progress in Phoenix and Rose Moffard cut the bright red ribbon. It was amazing. Though it's gone through an expansion since then, it's surprising how small this library seems now in comparison to the mega-mart libraries that have sprouted up in other parts of town. It's gone from being THE library in the area, to one of the smaller libraries in the general area. It's still a great neighborhood library though. That super modern architecture is still holding its own pretty well against the new fancy locations. And the fact that it is a part of the Paradise Valley Mall "circle" of shops is really convenient. read more
