Always extremely helpful and courteous when I would call to ask a question. I remember when I signed up they made the process so flawless. Any question I had they were right there with an answer. I was at this office about 5 years ago to apply for Medicare. It is now 2025 & I'm very reluctant to come back to this office for future business & I hear appointments are needed which doesn't make sense as Covid is over. But anyway, the young Hispanic Man rep I had was very polite but he tried to tell me I'm not eligible for Medicare. I said I'm not eligible for Social Security as my job had a Pension so employees contributed to the Pension fund where funds were not paid in to Social Security but I'm still eligible for a Medicare card. I then said I needed to have a Supervisor intervene here. After all was said & done, I was able to apply for my Medicare card. Now if I would have just believed this Representative, I would not have a Medicare card today. There is far too much incompetence where these reps are just not knowledgeable, rudeness, hanging up the phone on you & just plain lazy. This has always been the case with many a Government employee as I've been dealing with many a different business issue for well over 50 years. So it's a crap shoot whether or not you'll be dealing with a conscientious rep. And when that happens, consider yourself very lucky. This should not be happening as they are supposed to be employed to represent what can be offered to tax paying citizens providing they are eligible. Now it's to the point where they don't even know if you're eligible but pretend they know. This is what they are paid to do & if they do not know the answer, they are supposed to find out from a Supervisor. Then there's always the problem of a Supervisor not being knowledgeable. Seems like a person has a get a lawyer for any business matter in this day & age. Additionally, the government does not go out of their way to explain Medicare whatsoever. And the mailed handbooks are too confusing & getting bigger every year like a phone book. Maybe they get kickbacks from all these insurance companies because why are the insurance companies the ones always on TV with famous people like Joe Namath & William Shatner pushing Medicare Advantage plans instead of the Government officials guiding us through this maze. With all of the money the Government wastes, they could take care of retired people's health care 100% instead of burdening the tax paying citizens who helped build this Country. read more

They need to improve Customer service. They waited until the seating area was full and announced to start your application on line and schedule an appointment to come in. Why wait until ppl have been sitting for hours and then announce it?! Ridiculous... the whole place was basically emptied out after the announcement. First of all, let me state that I find it laughable that on yelp they ask if you would recommend this business, yes, or no. As if any of us have a choice I have been to this location numerous times and what I can tell you about it is, if you don't have anything that is too taxing, Then the people at this location are somewhat competent. If it has anything at all to do with trying to figure out survivor, benefits, benefits in addition to having a pension, etc. then I don't know what to tell you, complete incompetence! They give wrong answers, conflicting answers, some are rude, some are friendly, but either new or just plain stupid. The problem is we are all very limited in what our options are in dealing with a government agency, you can call and get hung up on, you can get wrong answers and keep coming back over and over and over again, however, I think at the end of the day you just have to get an attorney and pay them the fee to deal with the frustrations of incompetence. read more

I have been very pleasant and now spoken to 3 field offices and the national number. I was just hung up on by a woman in this office (Palos) who was not only rude and unhelpful but she just hung up on me. Additionally, she gave me info counter to what all 3 others provided. Its hard enough helping senior parents and no one on our govt payroll needs to hang up on people seeking assistance. She should not be dealing with people...all other offices were fantastic. Avoid Palos if you can and hope she is reprimanded. read more

As a new widow I have not been able to collect my late husband's benefits. I have been to this office 5 times since 1/30. every time I go I get a different answer. very incompetent people. All I am asking for is what's rightfully mine. my husband and I have worked our whole lives. This is unacceptable for a government agency. When I called S.S on the phone. I was hung up on after waiting over an hour to talk to someone. I'm not sure where to go from here. read more

I went to the palos Hills facility on Wednesday December 19, 2018 with my son to arrange benefits. It was very crowded, but when we were assigned to Carlos he was outstanding. Carlos was very knowledgeable, clear and polite. So far this office has been very helpful and we have gotten a lot accomplished. They were friendly and efficient with a very crowded office.

This place is definitely HORRIBLE! I always end up leave this place after stuck for two to three hours! They make people sit and wait, wait and wait for hours to call them to come to window. If I could give zero stars I would. As I sit here and watch the interactions with the people, those just getting an ss card are spoken to in a respectful manner however if you are there for any other reason watch out. The employees work harder to find a reason not to help than they do to help. They are clearly jaded. There is no sense of customer service, which is clear with any government organization. Had a very unpleasant interaction here this morning. Was bringing my elderly mother for an appointment and arrived to find absolutely zero parking - not one spot open in the lot. I noted people parking across the (busy) street and walking. My mom has a walker and so that was not an option. There was a half full employees parking lot (a sign was clearly posted). I pulled in and parked and got out of my car. I was simply going to get my mom's walker out and let her go in while I parked across the street. A security officer arrived immediately and began yelling at me. I tried to explain that I was not leaving my car and that I was just getting my mom's walker out. He continued to yell at me and told me I could not get her walker out while parked in the employee lot so I jumped in the car and pulled in front of the building where there were several people trying to get elderly folks in and out of cars just as I was. Actually a potentially dangerous situation with that many cars and people getting in and out. It was a very unsettling experience for me to have someone raise their voice in such a threatening manner when I was not doing anything wrong. Still rattled by the interaction. It occurs to me that a facility such as this should somehow have adequate parking for its clients. Once inside, I noted many, many older people who clearly could not park and traverse a busy street. My advice is you must visit this facility is to arrive plenty early. read more
