DuPage County Jail - A bag of terribly spicy chips

DuPage hired new corrections officers they young and educated. Except for an evening CO she has red hair, pink hand cuffs, ugly appearance made even uglier by jokes she only finds funny. It's a known fact coworkers cringe when they have to work with her. All joking aside I almost died there due to medical staff. A RN used to work there because I was unable to get up to take opiate withdrawal medication. Bonus DuPage is king for covering all this up. I am now a felon and I am not even a criminal. Since 2019 I'm still lingering in the system not to many reasons to do anything at all.

I never even buy junk food, but last night as I was on my way to provide overnight care for my 94 year old Grandpa, I decided to try these on a whim. Well, BIG MISTAKE. After eating only seven of the chips, today I am now SHITTING FIRE out of my poor & painful rear-end. The depths of my belly feels like that of a dragon's; my heartburn an endless lake of molten lava. From "oh my god it hurts" to stinging, butthole singeing fire-farts, these chips were worse than a bad idea: this purchase has now *easily* become my _worst_ decision all year. And now, half of my house smells like rotting, melted insides. My insides. The DuPage County Courts would do well to create a public service campaign to warn our citizens of the silent dangers these chips represent. The people should be informed about this blight of a product on our fine society! Overall, because I have seen similar products around the DuPage County jurisdiction, I am leaving one star. We can do better, people of DuPage! Down with intestinal dragons, Down with these chips, hooray for clean air and pristine toilets, hurrah!

I simply can't afford to pay you 25$ a night every time my culdesac has no spots left for me. Thanks for dumping all over the little guy, hope you feel really great about yourselves when you wake up and go to work for the day. Great job /s No sympathy given when I showed up to the hearing with pictures and maps and stated my case clearly for the "judge". I offered to literally sit in jail instead of hand over the funds I don't have, and was told best you can do is $5 off each ticket? You are chomping at the bits to move these to collections, and outsource your criminal money scam. Who is disconnected here? Is it me? I wake up every day and work for my money, it is often all spoken for the day it enters my account. Find a new way. Don't demand money from people who don't have it. Let me do community Service instead. Evolve. Don't be archaic. You can do better. Be the change in the world. Don't be naive to the financial hardship of the world today. Is this really the spiritual town I grew up believing that it was? I now have strong doubts.

For the last week or so, there were red flags along the curb on our block. Then came a bunch of construction horses on the parkway. Obviously, something is going on -- but, we were never told what. My husband and I tried contacting the city. They told us curbs were being replaced (ending, of course, 1 house down from ours), and we would receive a notice at least a day in advance. (One day? Like that's time to plan?) Well, no notice at all, and here the crews are -- tearing up the curbs. Called the city. They played dumb. Went out and talked to someone who from the contractor. He swears up and down that there were fliers (if there were, they flew off in the high winds the other day, but I think he was just lying). Neither we nor our neighbors recall seeing any notification. So, now, I'm parking in the driveway of a neighbor who is unaffected by this until the crews finish for the day. But, can I get back into the driveway? NO! Can my husband when he gets back from work? NO! We can park across the street! And, might have to for a few days (or more, depending on the weather), until the concrete can be laid and hardened. What happens to the neighbors who were not home like me? Several have another car they might need to get out and now can't. They also cannot use their driveways when they do get home, which I'm sure will come as a bit of a startle. I was also informed that the whole street is being replaced. No mention of this in any city communication or on the website.

This year is an "absentee" year for me; amazingly, I will be in DC on election day. I'm not sure if…read morethat is good or bad but they politely and efficiently sent me my info after a quick, no muss, no fuss phone call. Super! Now, for those of you who have parents and loved ones who "came over on the boat" (cue the Italian music again) there is a somewhat different sense of pride in being able to vote for those who did "come over on the boat". My mother requested an absentee ballot also and it was handled similarly; until there were questions about her middle initial. After another call, and that straightened out, it was on its way. Or so we thought. Niente dall'ufficio postale! After another call, with two very sincere workers they arranged to get "Ma" her ballot; with the statement that "if it doesn't get to you on such and such a day" they would "hand deliver it". Nice work!

As I…read moreapproached the Administration building there were a plethora of signs directing traffic to the building for early voting which was helpful. Thankfully I planned to get there early so parking wasn't an issue. When I left to go back to my car after voting the lot was packed and you had to drive around to find a space. I found it refreshing that I was able to bring in my cell phone to the building unlike other buildings in the DuPage County Complex. I made my way over to the DuPage County Election Commission office after being informed that those wanting to file paper ballots would have to do so in the actual office itself vs the office foyer area. I worked with two separate individuals (the first person left while I was voting) during my visit and observed another working with another individual trying to get a registration matter corrected. All the staff I encountered were very professional, friendly, helpful and relaxed (which surprised me considering the influx of people and calls they were experiencing). It took a few minutes for them to pull up my registration information and print up my ballot which was fine by me. Per the first person I spoke with, I was the first "print" of the day. All in all, it was a very good experience.

I was on scene when the above accident occurred and immediately pulled into the gas station and was informed that emergency personnel were contacted. I then proceeded to help secure the scene until emergency personnel arrived and verifying their were no serious injuries involved. I pulled into the adjacent bank parking lot and went to the intersection and still observed no emergency personnel. I then assisted in clearing some of the waiting traffic at the intersection until I heard sirens of emergency personnel approaching from both the south, fire/ambulance and west police. I proceeded to stop all pending traffic in all directions because of emergency traffic approaching from multiple directions and didn't want any vehicles entering the intersection. After assuring police and fire/ambulance personnel got positioned. I moved myself out of the way when I was aggressively approached by a Wheaton police officer demanding i get off the street out of the investigation blah blah blah. I then got on the sidewalk and again he started getting aggressive with his demeanor with me telling me to leave even though I was definitely far enough and in no way interfering with his non investigating investigation as the injured parties were conversing with medical staff. As he was not happy with my location he ILLEGALLY RAN MY CAR PLATES THAT WERE PARKED IN A PRIVATE LOT. I was on private property now. 2 other officers came over and I spoke of my displeasure and his I feel gestapo tactics when I was out there on scene making sure him and all his emergency personnel got to the scene safely. My experience working at the DuPage County Administration Building in the Community Services…read moreDepartment has been profoundly disappointing and life-altering in a negative way. The work environment was consistently discouraging, driven by a clear lack of respect, support and consideration--issues that were created and perpetuated by management! This toxic atmosphere not only hindered professional growth but also took a serious toll on personal well-being. What made the experience even more disheartening was the response from HR, who consistently showed little regard for employee concerns. Rather than offering support, HR sided unfairly with management, dismissing valid issues and reinforcing an already unsupportive environment. Compounding this was management's unsettling behavior, including sending emails as late as 11 p.m. These messages were often daunting, threatening, and deeply disturbing to read at any hour, reflecting a complete lack of professionalism. When it came to enforcing HR policies, the same urgency and fairness were noticeably absent, with clear signs of bias favoring management. This resulted in an unhealthy, stressful environment where employees felt undervalued, unsupported, and constantly on edge. Over time, it became a deeply demoralizing experience--completely draining confidence, leaving individuals feeling worthless, unheard, and stripped of any sense of professional dignity. I would definitely NOT recommend working there.

Today's visit to the 421 building was for a good reason though: getting our marriage license. We entered, we were asked to swear under oath that we would be telling the truth, and then were asked a series of questions. The girl asking the questions did so with lightning speed. For real, I didn't even have time to stop and think before answering. This wasn't her first rodeo that's for sure. $35 later, we had all of the necessary paperwork for our officiant to legally marry us. The entire process was quick and painless; we were out of there in less than 15 minutes. I'll be back in a few months to obtain certified copies of our certificate ($14 for the first and $2 for each additional copy) and know that trying to find parking will take longer than picking up the documents I need.
