The Man, The Myth, The Legend lol

No doubt one of the best instructor that I ever had! I've been eyeing this MMA dojo for quite some time now and promise myself when I get my new job, I will join.. and I did! Their new place looks niceee and convenient to the public since it's located in a plaza. Everybody is friendly and accommodating; it feels like family whenever I enter this place.. no ego and everybody is having a good time learning the art :) I had a handful of martial arts instructors growing up and they're all very helpful developing my skills til now, but the degree Professor Danny delivers is to the point and no BS. Granted, I came from a traditional martial art system, Prof Danny refines it and let me be as my own martial artist, specifically the kickboxing part. Those little adjustments like for example: keeping my hands up for defense all the time.. he really emphasized those details and I greatly appreciate it. I did a little Brazilian Jiujitsu before from Atos, which helped me stay calm on the ground, However they emphasized in No-Gi here and I was trilled because of its more realistic approach than putting on a Gi. I enjoy when Prof. Danny combines our BJJ and striking together cause I feel like an MMA fighter haha. I really enjoy going to this class every single time that I can.. I truly believe I found the place for me to improve my skills :) Overall, I highly recommend this place to fellow martial artist and those who wants to learn to defend themselves :)

Been doing some kind of sports or martial arts for a while.. was looking to transition into MMA, BJJ and more live training. My personal requirements in a school was good instruction as a priority and an overall positive environment. Having been to many different types of schools, I know that the culture and school environment is probably the #1 most important factor conducive to learning. Instruction: I wanted top quality bjj and grappling instruction. I also sought out a school that would teach wrestling and take downs, versus a straight sport bjj school. Danny's a well versed 2nd degree black belt and his style of teaching is easy to follow. He has fight experience at the amateur and professional level and that translates to more comprehensive knowledge of all ranges. Also, all the other instructors are very friendly and will help you get better. Coaches roll and spar on a regular basis, and given the close environment you get very hands-on teaching. I never felt like I was lost or no one was paying attention. Culture: Very close knit and family-like environment. The instructors are close to one another and are friends, and that trickles down to how the students interact with everyone else. There is no disrespect or ego clashes. It also encourages growth in learning as I have no concern whether or not I get "tapped" by someone else for trying something new or experimenting to learn. Classes: I appreciate the somewhat informal aspect to classes. A lot of the big martial arts centers start class on the dot. (for example 6pm and end exactly at 7pm) Sometimes at those places if it starts late or something comes up, class is cut short. The class schedule here is later on at night and open mat/practice goes on until close. I never feel like class was too short. While the environment is friendly and not super rigid, there is still structure in general, as well as in the curriculum. BJJ is offered in a very diverse platform, with both no-gi classes and gi classes. Takedowns, submission wrestling and leglocks are all part of the curriculum as well. I'm going to also add that you can tell Coach Danny is very cognizant of preventing injury and when working takedowns or leglocks, there are precautions set in place. Price: Cheaper than most schools esp for the level of instruction you get. No contract and had no issue with billing so far. Demographic: People of all walks of life. Big dudes, little dudes, medium. Strong, lanky, tall. A good number of girls which seems to be increasing steadily. Everyone is friendly and respectful. Overall the school is very comprehensive and caters well to the individual. If you just want an outlet for stress or to exercise couple times a week, that's great. If you want to compete in grappling or mma, that is also supported. There is no pressure to do anything you don't want to. You are allowed to work at your own pace, and that level of autonomy with positive encouragement and instruction is a rare find.

In early 2013 I was at my "rock bottom" when it came to my physical health and energy levels - working in a high stress sales position 8+ hours a day with the responsibilities that come with being a wife and mother I needed to do something to get into better health. Having a husband who is an athlete (Boxing and MMA) we discussed options for me but I was anxious because at 30-years-old I had never participated in athletics of any kind. After a lot of consideration we decided that I would start taking the blended kickboxing class at Southern California Combat Club (SC3). My goal was better health - if I lost some weight that would just be an added bonus. I was excited to try something new and begin my journey to a healthier lifestyle but was a bit hesitant being a woman training for my first time in an MMA gym full of tough men... but within minutes any bit of hesitation I had was removed by the kindness and humility of the members of SC3!!! In April of 2013 I took my first class - exhausted and dripping in sweat, I found myself hungry for more and could not wait to come back!!! I started out with 2 classes a week (Wednesdays and Saturdays), and within a few weeks included the cardio fit class on Wednesdays into my routine... a few weeks later I added on another night (Mondays) of blended kickboxing and cardio fit... within a few months I found that I was walking taller, had more energy, and that my ability to keep up in class (cardio) was improving. In October of 2013 I added Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Tuesdays and Thursdays) into my routine... now I find myself at the gym 4 nights a week, taking 2 classes each day, and I truly love each and every moment. Head coach and owner, Danny, is a GREAT teacher! Each class is thoroughly planned out and he thoughtfully connects techniques from previous lessons and other classes into scenarios that can be used regardless of if your time is spent fighting in a cage or in a real life self-defense situation. He is more than just a coach; he is an example & inspiration to the gym... "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." The staff is also very knowledgeable and helpful - each and every one of them humbly extends a hand when it is needed; anything from one-on-one help to get a specific technique down, giving pointers where they are needed, or extending words of encouragement. SC3 is so much more than a building where people gather to workout... It is a close knit circle of people who shed "blood, sweat, and tears" together... Each and every person has a genuine love for the sport of MMA - BUT - most of all there is true compassion for the members of the SC3 family. In the past year not only have I far exceeded the goal I set to improve my physical health (plus the bonus of losing 30lbs), but I have gained mental health (nothing like a good session hitting the pads after a stressful day at the office), and life altering friendships!!! One last thing that I can say that speaks volumes about the type of gym that SC3 is and the rarity that the Coach Danny and his staff offer is that I drive 45 miles (one way) to train with the team - and it is more than worth the effort that it takes me to get there. The guys and gals of SC3 make every moment a joy and I am forever a member of the family that is Southern California Combat Club!!! Thank you SC3!!!

I tend to try things and not going back, but KBXC classes kept me going! I always look forward for my next class. It helped lock it with my fitness journey! Something that I was never persistent about. Now, I've been working out 5 times a week for the past 2 months. During my first week, I could barely catch my breath and had little knowledge of kickboxing moves and techniques but these didn't discourage me from keep trying. The classes start with intense fitness workout and then focus on kickboxing combos. I highly recommend everyone to sign up for their 1 week trial. This will help you find the trainer that best fits you and your fitness goal. They have multiple locations (Orange, Downey, Lakewood) with diverse qualified trainers. I enjoy taking Jazzmine's classes when I need someone uplifting that encourages me throughout the workout. I take Brianna's classes when I need intense combos and lower body workouts and if you are looking for technique and form, definitely take Kevin and Josh's classes! Your environment and the people you surround yourself with have a big influence on your mindset, energy, and success. This definitely applies to KBXC! Within my first week here I already felt like family. Great environment, The coaches are amazing (Specifically Joe, Steve, and Miguel) I'm glad to have found a gym that I can call home. Bottom Line Up Front: I give this gym 5 out of 5 stars --…read moreand that says a lot because I've been training in martial arts since 1995 and am a certified instructor in multiple systems. But let me break it down as to why it gets my seal of approval. What You'll Learn: Rounders offers multiple martial arts: Boxing, Muay Thai (kickboxing), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kali (a Filipino knife-fighting system), and Mixed Martial Arts (which combines striking, wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu). In the past they have also offered wrestling and Judo. So there's something for everyone. Regardless of what class you pick, you'll learn how to protect yourself while getting a great workout. What You'll Gain: Like I mentioned, you'll get a killer workout in a safe and fun environment. According to some studies, you could burn anywhere between 300 to 800 calories in a single 1-hour kickboxing class. It's far more efficient (and fun!) than running on a treadmill. And the added bonus is that you'll learn self-defense along the way. Who You'll Meet: From co-owner Joe Kim to all the other instructors, the coaches here are physically talented, knowledgeable, and easy-going despite being deadly warriors. They create a positive atmosphere so that everyone -- from brand new rookies to combat sports veterans -- has fun while learning. And that trickles down through to the students, who are all supportive and welcoming. The Space: The gym is medium-ish in size compared to other gyms in the area; enough to hold one large group or two smaller sessions at the same time. The equipment is top notch. And the workout space is well maintained. There's also a small section for weight training, too. The Cost: I've visited other gyms with outrageous prices (like $200 a month for only Jiu-Jitsu!). Fortunately, tuition here is reasonably priced -- with options to drop-in, go month-to-month, or commit to 6 months or a full year. (The latter two doesn't mean you have to pay upfront, just that you'll be charged automatically for your chosen time frame and save more over the long term.) And considering those options give you unlimited classes for all of the martial arts classes, Rounders is totally worth it. Conclusion: Rounders MMA Fullerton is an ideal gym to join, whether you're looking to lose weight, learn some self-defense, or just belong to a cool community who will encourage and grow with you.
