My daughter has been talking about Sol Bol for years and always tells me she practically lived there during college. She recently wanted to treat me to lunch and was excited to finally introduce me to one of her favorite spots, so I figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. Located on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers, right next to an excellent Jersey Mike's that I frequent, Sol Bol was a completely new experience for me. The place is a small, grab and go establishment with a few seats but not many. On this day it was quiet and not too much action. This was my first-ever açaí bowl, and I have to admit, it was pretty good. What surprised me most was how filling such a small bowl could be. I left feeling full after just a regular-sized bowl. That said, I wasn't completely blown away by the flavor. Maybe it's because I'm new to açaí bowls, but I expected it to be a little sweeter. To me, the texture reminded me somewhat of flavored crushed ice. It was refreshing and enjoyable, but I found myself wishing there were a few more flavor options or a little more sweetness to really make it pop. What truly stood out was the customer service. The two young ladies behind the counter were outstanding. They were friendly, patient, engaging, and genuinely seemed to enjoy helping customers. They walked my daughter through the rewards program and answered all her questions. The funny part is my daughter has been going to Sol Bol for years and never signed up, but after talking with them, she finally did. That's how you know they did their job! Overall, I enjoyed the experience. While the bowl itself didn't quite live up to the hype my daughter built up over the years, the exceptional customer service absolutely elevated the visit. This is my favorite SoBol location! The staff were super patient and helpful. Coconut is my favorite base. Pro tip: The new ube flavor mixed with the coconut is amazing!! Love that they have a kids size option. My 2 year old loves it and finishes the whole thing every time. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is really clean and has high or low seating options. It's also right next to a Ralph's Italian ice place which is genius! If you go with a group you have options for everyone and the outdoor seating is for both locations. Can't wait to go back. I hope the Ube flavor is there for the summer or longer! This review is not against Sobol as a whole but this location. I've had better experiences at the new Rochelle and Mamaroneck locations. I usually get kids sizes because I never finish the regular and if I did it would cause blood sugar issues to me. Usually I get the pitaya bowl or mango pineapple. As usual I asked with the pitaya bowl if I could sub the kiwi out because I can't eat it. I was told no. No substitutions. I was shocked because the other locations allow me to do so since then it's like I'm not really getting what I paid for. Then all the bowls have a darker color than I'm used to. Last as I'm eating them I noticed 2/3 bowls are basically a thick layer of fruit and barely any base. Huge disappointment. They also messed up my order, but they did make it up...the error. Location has parking and is clean. The service was slow took us a while before we were serviced but quick to get the food once it was ordered. I have the app so i get my points! Spent $20 on two kid size bowls. Food was fresh but they were out of the sunshine, spirulina and pitaya bowls. They make thier own granola and the cookie butter is a great add to the meal. They're BEYOND slow and mess up the orders. Also, this location doesn't blend any nut butters into their bowls. New Rochelle does it. Long Beach does it. Melville does it. Astoria does it. Bayside does it. Need I say more? But wait...there was also a HAIR CLIP in my bowl. Brb gonna throw up now. Thanks for the side of lice with my food. Not to mention their green bowl was sour AND it was HALF filled with granola. When I'm paying $22 for something like this, at least give me the good part. Horrible. Just horrible. Worst fucking place. I ordered through Grubhub and waited for almost an hour. Checked the app and it said delivered. I went to check and nothing was delivered. I called the restaurant and was told the order wasn't ready when the grubhub driver arrived so the driver left without taking the food. Restaurant took my money but never called me to report an issue with grubhub. I asked how could you take my money and not send the food and then I was told oh we didn't process the order but the food is ready now.. we don't know how to get it to you. I got a strawberry banana smoothie here this morning and it has absolutely no taste. Tastes like milk - can't taste any banana or strawberry. Pretty high cost for a cup of milk. I love when I get a chance to stop by SoBol Yonkers. I always order the same thing. My order ain't broke, so there's nothing to fix! It's always the same açaí bowl, substitute the blueberries for mangos (I don't like blueberries). I wish there was a SoBol closer to home but when I'm in the area, it's so worth it!! For the first-timers, try to kid size to see how you like it. The regular size is super filling for me and keeps me full for about half the day as long as I'm good with my water intake. We were super excited to come to this place for some Açaí bowls. We ordered two bowls with protein and almond butter. We got home and literally it was like eating powder with fruit. It quite possibly the worst bowl I ever had. I think the kids working there weren't trained properly because it definitely was missing something. It's a shame because we have been looking for a good spot for a while... another fail. Probably will never go here again Update: The manager read my last review and responded to it immediately. Wasn't very happy with this place- the strawberries ln my bowl were soggy and they don't have much of a variety when it comes to the base unlike Playa Bowls. My bowl was also a bit of a smorgasberg of fruits, usually when I get açaí bowls they place the fruit and toppings on very nicely but this was kind of a mess. I've been coming here almost 3-4 times a week for about three months now. As much as I love a good acai bowl the service here sucks. I always order one nut free bowl with any of my orders because of my severe nut allergy and they have told me several times there's no nuts and they have given me nuts. On top of the lack of care of what goes into my bowl I just waited a good 6 minutes until there phone rang and two of the employees noticed I was waiting. No one greets you when you come in. No one acknowledges you. I wasn't even given a reward card until a month in of me coming by the manager. As close as this place is to where I live I will be driving to Bronxville to get an acai bowl from another establishment. This sucks because I never just buy one bowl. I buy multiple for everyone in my family to everyone at my job. Pricing doesn't matter what matters is treating your customers the right way. The woman with dark hair at the register could not be bothered to greet or acknowledge me, I recommend Playa Bowls in Bronxville where you get a lot more for your money without an attitude. Besides the unfriendly staff, I had to pay extra to get an item substituted (Playa Bowls does not charge fyi) and the fruit tasted frozen. This place was my go-to for a healthier treat option but today I purchased a super bowl and I get home to see the top 1/4 of the cup virtually empty! What am I paying $16+ for? When I called to inquire, the sale person (no manager was available in store) responded "you asked for light granola and we only fill the cup with açaí to the top of the logo, we normally don't add additional açaí if the customer doesn't want all the granola." I'm confused because I've never experienced this when I have ordered this same item previously. I would have liked to know this before making my purchase. Weirdest thing happened. My guy and I ordered the "Super Greens" smoothie. It comes with Almond milk but I'm allergic to almonds so I asked for Soy. My guy likes almond instead of soy. He ordered one with soy and one with almond. So when the smoothies were ready, he asked which is soy and which is almond. The girl said that they were both almond and then corrected herself and said they were both soy. My guy does not eat soy as he has to stay away from it. The girl took 1 minute or less to make him a "new" one with almond milk in it like requested. However, we both feel she probably just added some almond milk to the previous soy milk one as it tasted watered down apparently. Definitely has a very odd flavor apparently too. Seems so suspish but our youngest kid was acting up so we just left it as is. I think it's so messed up when people don't take others' situations into consideration. It really just sucks. First time there today. Horrible! Unfriendly! Wanted an açaí bowl, told the person at the register that I could not have banana. She did not advise that she would charge an extra dollar to remove the banana. She didn't have coconut so that was just omitted. When I got back to my destination to enjoy my lunch, I was appalled by the condition of the strawberries absolutely overripe past the point to the serve them to a customer. Walked in and stood there for a good 5 min waiting for somebody to place my order. Walked up to the counter because nobody was going to acknowledge me, and I placed my order. There were people leaving, I guess their shift was over and while the young lady was making my food the people leaving were standing over my food without masks and putting straws on their bags. I told him what happened in solbol, he came over to speak to the young lady and told her everybody needs to be wearing masks, she started to raise her voice at him and talk back. On his was out she stormed off to the back and started kicking garbage bins and full trash bags. If I were him she would have been fired on the spot!! A nice young gentleman came out and began to re make my food with a mask and gloves, he gave me a large even though I ordered a kids. Even though the manager came over and had somebody make me another bowl I'm still in shocked that 1, anybody would let their workers show any type of disrespect to the customer and the manager. and 2, not fire her on the spot for cussing and being disrespectful. I have been to the Yonkers location about 6 times within a month and a half, and I haven't had an issue. Staff have always been helpful and wearing the proper PPE. Also, the açaí bowl is pretty awesome and big. I will continue to return until the food or service is no longer good. Im shocked about the negative reviews regarding the bowls however, I am new to eating açaí. Completely understand if you receive poor service, I wouldn't return either. read more
