We feel very relaxed when we are there, and actually hate having to stay in hotels on our drive up or when going back home. The cottage is very relaxing, cozy, and comfortable. There is a lovely selection of teas and coffees available to have with Ammi's absolutely delicious homemade blueberry muffins! The porch and garden are beautifully tended and there are multiple places to sit outdoors and relax. Ammi is a talented artist and she has a small gallery of work on the premises where you can view and purchase her vibrant work. Her artwork is also on display in the cottages. Ammi's attention to detail, her keen eye for decorating, her wonderful personality, and her genuine care for her guests is what has made this place extra special. We will return again and again!!

However, that only serves to highlight the extent to which the substance and a stay at the inn fails to live up to both the expectation and the price. We stayed for four nights in total in room 9 (accessible from the outside on the end of the main building) so we got to see a fair amount of the inn and tried to make the most of the experience. Here's what we concluded. The breakfasts are utterly underwhelming and generic. There was zero evidence of any local ingredients being used, basic grocery store artificially flavored and sweetened yogurt, usually a sickly sweet baked item (almost certainly from prepared mixes) and a hot item. The hot item ranged from a tiny slice of omelette to a sweet and dry store bought croissant with some jimmy deans breakfast sausage. We're definitely not above a basic motel breakfast but we paid for something nice and most definitely didn't get it. The presence of several Sysco branded products left us feeling like most things were just ordered, trucked in and hurriedly reheated rather than anything actually being "cooked". That's doubly disappointing given they have their own (sadly very neglected) market garden, plus some chickens and goats. Would it have been that hard to do some freshly prepared eggs from the chickens that are literally steps away from the kitchen. The room was small which isn't necessarily a problem but the bathroom was incredibly cramped for me (I'm 6'2") such that I had to stoop to use the shower and couldn't raise my arms to towel off. The room had an old window mounted ac unit that kept it cool but was definitely noisy, but that was probably a saving grace as it drowned out the sound of the mice chewing under the floor boards. The sound proofing is also non existent. We live in an old 1800s house so know that some rodent activity and noise comes with the territory but this was just too unrefined and rustic for the price point. This was compounded by our experience when fetching tea one evening from the self service snack and drinks bar to see a mouse scurry across the floor and under the door into the kitchen. Needless to say we opted out of the breakfast on our final day. Next, the wifi was very temperamental. That wasn't a problem as that's hardly the reason most people come to Maine, but if you need reliable wifi, don't bank on it here. Finally, the location is nice but 20mins drive from the nearest town of Wiscasset, and about 30-40 mins from Damariscotta. That meant the Inn was pretty cut off from any restaurants. If they offered dinner to guests even on some nights then that would have made the seclusion an asset. Instead it became a bit of a chore. So overall, the Squire Tarbox Inn promises much but fails to deliver on the substance that makes for a really great stay at this price point. It looks great in photos and I'm sure would Instagram well, but get up close and the reality is different. A bit of research suggests the new owners are designers from Houston and possibly don't live on site and that's what it feels like. Well designed and visually pleasing but with a really disappointing lack of attention to detail and lacking an innkeeper focused on the small things that add up to a great experience. We'd have considered it good value at about half what we paid. As it was, we left ruing the missed opportunities and the several hundred dollars we felt we'd overpaid.

Jackie helped us to our room during check in and gave some helpful tips and requests to make our stay so comfy. The Garden room was beautifully decorated and including a relaxing full sized tub. Although rainy during our visit, it is closest to the outdoor patio space to enjoy! After sharing about the room, Jackie gave us some amazing recommendations for restaurants and things to do that we very much used throughout our time in the greater Bath area! Jackie's breakfast was hearty, delicious, and locally sourced - the breakfast frittata and potatoes were so yummy! She respectfully tries to seat groups throughout the morning so that no one is crowded - allowing you to meet fellow travelers or keep to yourself as fits your morning preferences. She also gave us more suggestions for our 2nd day of adventures and again they did not disappoint! She left us a very yummy takeaway breakfast for our last morning as sadly we had to depart for our flight before breakfast. At every turn, Jackie and the Inn at Bath made for such a memorable experience. We would love to come back someday and we recommend it so much!

She has created a community of visitors to the area on 10's of acres of beautiful Damariscotta riverside accomodations which, ch are extremely cozy. If you are staying for a few nights or weeks, she has a family cottage, two apartments and several rooms in the main house which are appointed for ease and comfort. The price is very reasonable for the kind of access you get by staying just a short walk from the center of town and main street crosses the river with views of the harbor. The town of Damariscotta offers many dining, shopping and art establishments as well as a playhouse, movie theatre, library and parks. We stay here each year for at least one or two weeks and make it our base for our vacation. We come from San Jose Ca, to stay at Martha's and we love it! If you are housekeeping, the cottage, studio and RiverView appartments have all the accouterments for making a few meals, surfing the Internet or just reading on the porch. Each is outfitted with super comfortable couches, chairs and recliners. When the sun sets, reflections from the river glimmer and floods the abode with dancing light. We customarily do a seafood pasta while playing some italian opera or Andrea Bocelli on the iPod. Then we uncork a nice red and basque in the quietude of the evening. A series of serene and beautiful times to be had in this idyllic spot in Maine.

An Absolute Wedding Treasure…read more When we decided to get married, we wanted to avoid the ridiculously high costs of weddings, and wanted a smaller, "family & close friends only" event, but still wanted a special day, of course. We toyed with the idea of a backyard wedding with "bring food as your gift" on the invite, ditching all the little expensive extras, but it wasn't coming together, especially when Mom fell sick. How lucky we were that a relative suggested the Mill Pond Inn, which was three houses down the street from their home in Nobleboro. It's a cliche, but The Mill Pond Inn is indeed a treasure. Bobby and Sherry are fantastic. We visited the place the summer before our wedding. A few months later, when we first talked with Bobby about our wedding schedule, he said "nah, you don't wanna do that" to a few of our ideas, and, as we were looking at each other during the phone call and realizing he was right, we decided to let him and Sherry run the show. What an *absolute* *relief*! We didn't have all the hassles that other folks warned us about when planning weddings. It was all just handled, and handled well. The food was great (we picked the menu, Bobby and Sherry did the rest . . . and we highly recommend bringing in their neighbors, Leigh and Sharon, who did a pre-ceremony oyster bar with local oysters for the guests as they arrived). Bobby and Sherry dealt with everything but the flowers (and there was a local florist that handled that) and music (we chose a playlist that we played over their sound system). There was *none* of the pre-wedding stress that we'd heard about from so many people. That itself was worth every penny! Speaking of which, the budget Bobby proposed was more than workable (yet another relief). All told the cost was well *under* what we'd budgeted. All we had to do was get invites out (tell your guests to bring swimwear -- the kids and a few adults had an absolute ball jumping into the pond and swimming during the meal and on into the afternoon). Part of the deal was that you had to rent out the entire place, but it was no problem filling the rooms with out of town relatives, and we in fact ended up reserving rooms in one of the homes across the road, which was right on the lake, which gave an added bonus of having lake access for a couple of days. Bobby and Sherry even accommodated Mom, who was in a wheelchair, by letting us bring and set up a portable AC in the front room -- she was very concerned about overheating in her condition, and this made her feel much safer. The day could not have been more magical. It was hot, but they knew where the shady spots were, and we set up so that the chairs and the gathering were in the shade when is was time for the ceremony. The setting was beautiful, and the weather cooperated (though Bobby had contingency plans in case of rain). We give Mill Pond Inn our highest recommendation -- we've given them permission to use our wedding photos, and we gave them our number if you want to hear it directly from us! David & Natalie
