We always come here for our snorkel rentals! We like their moflex fins- they're so much comfier than regular fins. When we came with family, we got some prescription snorkels and they worked great! Esae and Dee (sorry if I spelled those names wrong!) are always super friendly and helpful with making sure we get the right products and sizes on! If it's a busy season, make sure to reserve ahead of time. We usually just walk in but came during a holiday weekend once and they didn't have anything available and we had to run around to different shops to find fins. We ended up getting fins from a place in Waikiki that was much more expensive and they were unfriendly and honestly rude there, so we've been sure to make reservations ahead of time so we can pick up our things at snorkel bob's! read more

One of the rudest experiences here during my entire vacation. The person helping me had ZERO interest in explaining things. She made me choose different parts of the package without telling me that those items would be considered an upgrade until after ringing me up. Second every time I would follow up with a question to ask about certain things to clarify or ask about recommendations, she would just respond "You tell me. I'm asking you." We decided that we wanted to go snorkeling while in Hawaii but do it on our own time and not have to buy equipment that we may not use again. We showed up at our appointment time and was promptly greeted by a lady who knows anything and everything snorkeling. She was able to get my wife and daughter prescription snorkeling masks. I didn't even know there was such a thing!!! She also set us up with everything else we needed and showed us how everything worked. She was a pleasure to work with and funny! The customer service was impeccable and we truly felt valued as customers. The rental price for a weekly rental is very inexpensive and you can do a daily rental if you like. My family has been using Snorkel Bob's (both Oahu and Kauai/Koloa locations) for years. They have always provided great gear and made our snorkeling trips successful. We typically rent the upgraded (Seamo Betta) goggles with prescription lenses and the Moflo2 snorkel. The prescription lenses are a game-changer for me since I have a strong prescription and without correction, all the fish look the same and Honu look like floating rocks. By renting for the week, we can snorkel for 20 minutes here and there or go for 45-60 minutes and not worry about returning the gear at the end of the day. Some reviews mention that there can be a wait, but this is understandable to me since the staff always takes the time to make sure each of us gets the right corrective lenses and the right fit for our fins and masks. Prior to renting from Snorkel Bob's, my wife was always a bit apprehensive about snorkeling because the gear was hard to use and made her apprehensive. Okay so, my two sons wanted to go snorkeling yesterday. We stopped by Snorkel Bob's to rent some gear. The lady behind the counter (sorry, didn't get her name) asked where we were going go snorkeling. I told her we were headed up to Turtle beach (usually very calm). She asked if we had been there before and I said yes, last year. She typed something into her computer and asked me to come over and look. She had live video of all the popular beach which showed the waves and and how high the surf was, she said that it would be difficult to snorkel there and advised that we drive up check out the conditions and rent equipment up there, if we choose to. She didn't have to do that, she could have just rented some tourist some equipment and collected her money. The fact that she went out of her way to help me was amazing. Great spot to reserve gear for snorkeling! You can reserve ahead of time on their website. Be sure to switch to daily if that's what you're looking for since it defaults to weekly. We came in when it opened and were fitted in our flippers and snorkel mask. The belt is first come first serve and the vest felt a bit flimsy but did it's job. Returning equipment- They provide you a time when you have to return it by. If they're not open, there is a chute you can drop it in. Make sure to dust off as much sand, tie all your rented equipment together, and place your receipt in the bags. read more

It was a huge relief to have Snorkel Bob's so close to us. We rented two reasonably priced sets of snorkel gear for a day at Hanauma Bay and chose to try out the "split level" and "budget crunch" packages (both came with a mask, tube, fins, and anti-fog spray). The associate who helped us was very kind, helpful, and got us in and out quickly so we could make our reservation at Hanauma. We had no problems using the gear and found that the "budget crunch" package was not too different from the more expensive one. The only main difference is the oval face mask, which is a bit bulkier (but not obtrusive by any means). Dropoff of the gear was very easy, as they have a 24-7 equipment drop-box attached to their front door. Other perks that are convenient (but we did not utilize) are an inter-island gear dropoff program and prescription goggles. read more

What a fated encounter! We met Dave 2 years ago on our Oahu trip years ago and it was great to bump into him again! Dave assisted us on fitting our snorkel gear. The customer service here is very warm and personable. As beginner snorkelers, Dave was very helpful and informative with our group. We also rented a flotation vest and belt to go along with our gear. They also have prescription goggles, which is a plus for any folks who wear glasses! Very slow service. There was only one person working the day we arrived. They limit the number of people inside the site to 5 people or something. We got 4 sets of snorkel gear which came with anti fog solution(remember to return it when you return your gear). The gear worked fine. Dave and Ise at Snorkel Bob's Oahu are the BEST! They are so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure my prescription snorkel googles fit well. I have a pretty high prescription for near-sightedness and didn't want to wear contacts. I called them beforehand to see if they had prescription snorkel goggles, and Ise helped out and made sure that I had the right lenses. Rented the kit and a yellow waist float for a week (didn't end up needing the float) and had a wonderful time. Also bought a pair of earplugs from this location after my ears started ringing from the first snorkeling trip -- definitely helped for subsequent trips. I also hadn't snorkeled in a long time, and Dave gave some great tips on where to snorkel to find turtles and fish in Oahu. It was the weekend before memorial day weekend and you can tell most of their snorkeling gears are all gone, compared to the pictures that are here on Yelp with plenty of masks hanging from their ceiling. We got super lucky and was able to rent their weekly options at a cheaper price. It came with snorkel mask, breathing tube, fins, anti-fog all for $18/week. They even assisted through the entire fitting experience and made sure we were comfortable with the gear before sending us off. The return experience was also super easy, and their location is conveniently located near Waikiki. Great quality equipment - used the 4 eyes set because I didn't want to wear contacts into the ocean - it was customized and worked perfectly. Dave was very friendly and nice, he helped with ensuring both the mask suction and flipper sizing. After this fitting, felt confident enough to jump into the ocean (as a first time snorkeler (though I am not a first time swimmer - that affects confidence)). The suction is critical - the prices for rental here are much more reasonable than elsewhere for very good quality equipment- get a mask that fits and doesn't let in air when you are in the water! As I am not a very advanced snorkeler, I didn't get Moflo tubes as recommended strongly by SB- just went with Bubbas. They also offer inter-island equipment but we didn't use that feature. The second day I also got the wetsuit jacket because I feel cold so it definitely helped me get over jumping from the boat into open ocean. (the water is warm enough that you definitely don't need a full suit, and maybe don't need one at all). The lady who helped on day two was also very nice and friendly. I used the online reservation to book my daily rental. Btw, a reservation doesn't mean you skip the line- I think it means the equipment is reserved.. Fortunately, there were very few people both times we went in, so it wasn't a problem. I appreciate that the daily rental is in 24 h slots, rather than 9-5 etc so I don't overpay and can pick up the equipment when it makes most sense for my island itinerary. Did (1) Hanauma - which is a rant - hundreds of people knowingly using spray on sunscreen and just standing on the reef because the water is so shallow, and then (2) open ocean dolphin swim+ turtle snorkel with Wild Side in Waianae (separate review) which was an outstanding experience. Both made possible through Snorkel Bob's quality equipment Finally, Snorkel Bob's literature - fun to read and enlightening for the first time snorkeler. Taught me what to seek in equipment, sensitized me to safety and reef protection. The blue pamphlet you get at pick up talks about "snorkel meditation". Never having snorkeled before, I didn't get it. But you know what it is the moment you hit the ocean surface - and it encapsulates what snorkeling is about - breathe in breathe out and watch the ocean do its thing.
