There is an amazing post club vibe even if you go there in the middle of the day. The aesthetic of the worn out seats and drawings and sketches marked onto tables (and bathroom stalls or anywhere) makes it feel like your impression will last forever while you're there. It's a very noisy spot so prepare your lungs to talk louder than usual. With it located in a prime midtown space it's a lovely place to spend a few hours to grab a beer and nachos. Their specials are hit or miss but it gives dive bar authenticity but with a steeper price. Try the King's Crown nachos and tip the staff! They're amazing and always on the go, and go out of their way to help. I love showing it to people from out of town. Not the best, but oddly that's the best thing about it. In all our years in and out of Toronto and I don't think we have ever been to Sneaky Dee's. Unless we were here a long time ago and don't remember. It's the kind of place that should be memorable but with enough beers it is totally possible that we just can't recall. Regardless, we stopped in on Tuesday night just to say we had been here. And we were happily surprised. Not surprised that it is a shining example of dive bar esthetics, because it it the real deal on that account. The surprise were how pleasant the place is (comfortable in its well worn punk rock and roll patina), and the Tuesday deal prices were amazing. I can't remember the last time I got a pint of beer for $5. We didn't eat but everyone else was enjoying heaping plates of half-price fajitas (the other Tuesday night special). We are definitely coming back for some of those as soon as we can. Also they have half-price nachos on Monday nights, so another reason to drop in again soon. Sneaky Dee's -- Poor service, less than satisfactory food, missing advertised specials, and closed when supposedly open. A friend of mine knows the owner of Sneaky Dee's in Toronto, Canada, so he talked me into going. Sneaky Dee's is a family run restaurant located about 1.5 miles/2.41 km West of the main downtown of Toronto. It is like a diner, but the entire place is purposefully decorated by graffiti. If my friend had not been with me the first time I went to the restaurant, I would have turned around and ran out the door. The first time we went to Sneaky Dee's, although supposedly open at 11 am, there was a note on the door, "Opens at 4 pm." So, we had to find another restaurant. The second time we went, it was open, and my friend chatted to the owner; we had their breakfast special, but no artificial sweetener for coffee, no jam or peanut butter for toast, and the breakfast was at best mediocre. The third time we went at about noon, Again, there was a note on the door, "Opens at 4 pm." so again, we went to another restaurant. After the third time, I really had enough with this greasy spoon, but today, my friend begged me to give Sneaky Dee's another chance. He said that they advertised a lunch special menu 11 am to 4 pm with a number of great $8 sandwiches -- grilled cheese, BLT, Chicken Breast, Philly Steak, etc., all served with coleslaw and choice of potatoes. He was hoping for the Philly Steak sandwich. Well, we go to the restaurant about 2:45 pm. We were given menus, but there was no lunch special menu. He asked the server about the lunch special menu, especially about the Philly Steak and $8 lunch menu. She said it was not available and told us to look at the menu and she walked away. He was really disappointed, but I suggested we try the bacon and eggs breakfast. When the server returned, we ordered the breakfast and coffee. She brought us coffee, but no cream or sugar. After we got her attention, she brought us a total of two creamers and three packets of sugar. Again, no sweetener. The breakfast was served. The fruit consisted of a quarter of an orange wedge and two blueberries. My friend got a tablespoon full of potatoes and his sunny side up eggs were over done. My poached eggs were okay, but half my potatoes were as cold as refrigeration, and the other half was lukewarm. We were given no jam. The server never smiled and seemed irritated when we asked her for anything. When we asked for jam, she brought us each one miniscule packet of jam. She never offered us more coffee, so we had to catch her attention again. She brought us coffee and no cream or sugar. Again, she had to be called back and again appeared unhappy with us. She never refilled our water glasses and never asked us if our food was satisfactory. We called her for the bill. When she came, she threw the bill on the table and placed the POS terminal on the bill, so we could not see the bill. My friend told her he wanted to pay by cash. She took the money from his hand without saying a word. She came back with the change and put it on the table without a word to either of us. I convinced my friend to leave no tip. He was upset by the whole experience and told me he was going to contact his friend the owner about what happened. There are many family run restaurants and diners in Toronto that are far superior to Sneaky Dee's I told my friend that Sneaky Dee's was one of the worst restaurants in Toronto for service and food. I stated that I would never come back to this restaurant, and I would write a Yelp Review that would recommend no one else eat at Sneaky Dee's either. read more

If you visit here, come hungry; they have huge portions with fast and friendly service. My boyfriend and I shared the king's crown nachos; it was well seasoned and tasty. There was plenty of all the toppings. If you like spicy, add their special hot sauce to bites with salsa on it; it really enhances the flavor. Their homemade sauce has a sour vinegary flavor similar to Tabasco. This is a pretty casual pub-like establishment. My boyfriend is a big Scott Pilgrim fan, and this establishment was featured. Favourite place for nachos! They have big portions and are pretty generous with the toppings, so it's good for sharing. I recommend both the DFA nachos and the Northern Blues. Monday is half off all menu items, and Wednesday is half price on nachos. Service here can be kind of slow, and they usually have pretty loud music playing so it might be hard to hear people talk, but it's a vibe. read more

I had the Mexican Bruschetta, and ten hours later, I'm still in awe of just how completely fresh and complex the app was. Covered in graffiti and rock and roll this is the perfect spot for brunch. It's a huge room with lots of tables in the back, and a few spots up front near the windows. We started with a Bloody Mary and Bloody Caesar for comparison. Both were great, but the Caesar was extra. Our waiter recommended the ham eggs Benedict which was served with home fries and was so so so delicious. They make their own hollandaise sauce too. My boyfriend and I arrived at Sneaky Dee's at approximately 11:40pm and were seated very quickly. The host way lovely and sat us at a table for two between two tables of four. Our server was also very lovely and our drink/food order was placed very promptly. The server continued to check in with us throughout our evening once our food arrived and took another drink order for us. It was at approximately 1:00am that we were approached by the host and asked if we would be willing to relocate to another table to make room for a big group who had just arrived. My boyfriend and I were in the middle of a rather deep conversation about our relationship and in all honesty didn't feel like moving to another table. A few moments later, to our surprise, the server also came and asked us the same question. As my boyfriend and I continued our conversation, our server spoke to us and said she would go and speak to her manager regarding the situation. I never asked to speak to her manager directly. A few moments later, to my surprise, Manager Sarah came to speak to us about moving. It was all downhill from here. Sarah was very unprofessional in the way she spoke to us, making us fell guilty for our unwillingness to move, comparing us to everyone else. She then said, and I quote, "this isn't fine dining". This statement I found to be extremely disrespectful and unnecessary. Our conversation didn't continue much more after that as she, as per her, was extremely busy and had to get back to other duties. The interactions with Sarah were the furthest thing from professional that I have personally dealt with in recent memory, coming from someone who works in the service industry myself. There wasn't any solutions found for moving us or any attempt to make us comfortable. Sarah wanted nothing to do with us, she made us feel uncomfortable despite being paying customers. It made us feel that our money was not worth the same as the group they had waiting who may not have been part of the same community as us. It made me feel that the money that my boyfriend and I brought to the business was not as important as the group they had waiting. Which, is something this society does a lot. After Sarah left our server came back to check in on us and I took a few more moment's to chat with her about the whole situation. Well, it turns out that she had no idea that the host came and saw us, asking us if we'd be willing to move also. This in itself speaks volumes about the lack of communication within the team. The server understood how this could've been handled differently and apologized for how it was dealt with. We got our bill and the server made a point to highlight that the bill was "as is". In the end we never ended up moving and the party of approximately 8 ended up leaving, we confirmed this with the server. Upon our departure I attempted to have one final interaction with Manager Sarah, to which I was met with, and I quote, "are you here to mansplain more to me"... to which my boyfriend was appalled that such a statement was made. Sarah wasn't willing to offer solutions and wasn't willing to understand why we simply wanted to stay where we were. They weren't willing to listen to me anymore, expressing that I was standing in the way of their servers and that was more or less the end of our communication. Last night I made my 2nd visit to the venue and as with my 1st visit more than 2 years ago, I came after drinking (and eating) elsewhere, but this time I not only had more food - a very generous person in my group ordered nachos and shared them with the rest of us - but another very generous person in my group ordered a pitcher of sangria for everyone. We didn't arrive until around 11:15 pm by which time it was quite crowded and noisy inside (the latter of which was not helped by the loudness of the music), thereby resulting in slow service. The venue is quite spacious overall and I haven't made it up to their 2nd floor yet but it's not a particularly upscale place although being located right at the corner of College and Bathurst it is in a good location, close to many other restaurants and bars, etc. Due to the slow service we received and the noise level last night I was tempted to give only 4 stars in my review, but both the nachos and the sangria were delicious enough to convince me to give an extra star. There's nothing like a pitcher of sangria on a summer day. Sneaky Dee's red sangria wasn't sickeningly sweet and they were generous with their alcoholic mixture. My friend and i also ordered their "King's Crown" nachos. The portion was large and there were lots of toppings to accompany the nachos right to the end. The service was ok. The waiter's recommendation of nachos was good. But he took away our food without asking if we were done. And also he thought we asked for white sangria when we asked for red. Ok, I admit I got lured in by pictures of their nachos but this was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time! Even in a completely sober state, I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of that huge heap of chips, beans, rice, salsa, sour cream, guac, etc. We ordered the Vegetarian Cactus in the Valley Nachos to share. That thing is huge - you can probably share it amongst a group of 4 people! I just wish it hadn't been so spicy, as the heat took away from the other flavors in the dish. We just got in town and I dumped my passport in the hotel room but thank goodness I had my ID in my purse (I travel very light when walking in a foreign place) they ID everyone before entry! Part Tex-Mex restaurant, part concert venue, part neighbourhood hangout, Sneaky Dee's is one of those iconic mainstay type of places that becomes a part of the city's identity. Opened in 1987, this legendary purveyor of nachos has been voted #1 Best Late Night Restaurant 2018 by NOW Toronto, was featured on Anthony Bourdain's Toronto episode of The Layover and named #1 Best Nachos by blogTO. You can even spot them in the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel (Volume 4: Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together) and of course you'll see the characters eating a Kings Crown. Can you even call yourself a Torontonian if you've never been here?At the corner of College and Bathurst, you certainly can't miss them. I mean, unless you can ignore an insanely graffiti-covered building with skull horns all over it. The inside is no different. It feels kinda like a dank dive bar but also feels incredibly homey. It often feels loud and rowdy. There is crap everywhere. Everywhere! Every inch of the place is covered in mural art, graffiti, gig posters, chalkboards with specials scribbled onto them. It's the best. This is the kind of place that holds a deep history and has become an important part of the community. You could spend an hour just looking around and discovering things. They also have a patio in the warmer months, which is where I planted myself on a recent Sunday visit. The staff is the exact right amount of surly and super friendly. Sneaky's has drink specials every day of the week because above all, you come to Sneaky Dee's to have fun. Being my first patio outing of the year, I needed a Sangria (5 oz wine, 1/4 oz tequila, 1/4 oz cherry brandy - $7.95) in my hand yesterday. You can choose from red or white wine, and red is always my jam. They bring you a big 'ol 18 oz glass and you know that you're all set. This sangria mostly tasted like juice which is exactly the way that I like it. Sweet 'n boozy, it felt like the best part of summertime. I also really appreciated that in addition to the citrus fruits (lemon, lime, orange) that you always seem to get in sangria, they also added grapes and cherries. These were a great bonus that kept things just a little bit different. The menu at Sneaky Dee's is a Tex-Mex party. But they actually take their food more seriously than I bet anyone gives them credit for. All of the ingredients used in their dishes are localized, with the exception of ripened avocados and juicy tomatoes, which are imported. It's nice to see that this is something that is important to them. You'll find dishes like fajitas and Mexican dinners on the menu... But let's face it, you come to Sneaky's for the nachos. Their muchos nachos are incredibly famous. I don't even like nachos and yet I've never ordered anything else. (Someday I would like to! I love an enchilada!) There are eight different nacho plates to choose from and none is more famous than the legendary Kings Crown (Crisp corn tortilla chips covered with salsa roja, piled high with frijoles, ground beef, tomatoes, onions, mixed peppers, jalapenos, melted cheese, topped with guacamole & sour cream - $26.00). I mean, you could order something else, but why would you? These are, in fact, the greatest nachos to have ever been made. It's science. This mountain arrives hot out of the oven and is perfect to share between two (hungry) people. They're everything that you want nachos to be. They're everything that nachos should be. The best part is that they do a really excellent job of layering the toppings throughout so that you don't end up with a pile of naked tortilla chips at the bottom - each chip is guaranteed to be covered in toppings for the perfect bite each time. The veggies are bright and juicy and fresh, while the savoury beans and ground beef add flavourful substance. The cheese is melty and abundant. You get little punches in the face now and then from the jalapeno and you welcome it every time. And don't even get me started on the perfectly heaping amount of guacamole and sour cream on top. These nachos are absolutely perfect just the way that they are and to change them would be blasphemous. These are the nachos of your dreams. If you're in Toronto: you go to Sneaky Dee's and you order the Kings Crown. Otherwise you're doing it wrong. read more
