Horrendous. Whoever was manning the front desk did not speak any English whatsoever. I tried asking if they had any single-origin bars with only cacao beans and sugar in the ingredients. They did not understand at all, and I unfortunately had to ultimately give up and leave as it was just not working out. Chocolate places that put cocoa butter and/or sunflower/soy lecithin are cheating BIG TIME. If your cacao beans are good enough, you do NOT need any of that hot garbage in your chocolate. This place puts cocoa butter at the minimum, I wasn't able to figure out if there were any emulsifiers like lecithin. All I saw were some glitzy decorated truffles that did not match what I was looking for obviously. Could not recommend this place at all to other Yelpers -- there are so many better fair-trade craft chocolate places in the Bay Area. read more

Omg this place feels like a scam. I remember coming here so many years ago maybe 5 yrs ago and it was such a different vibe. Bustling and cozy. Went on Sunday during the day, empty and weird vibe. Like one of those makeshift asian stores inside with a weird stand on the left and the chocolates, gelatos, and barefoot coffee beans on the right. The chocolates LOOK good, but they are not good. Boyfriend described the chocolates as tasting floury and all the "different" flavors taste similar. They're pricey and not worth it for what it is. It's not artisan chocolates like at Alexander Patisserie. I can't speak for the gelato but don't get the chocolates. I wouldnt come here ever. read more

Do not use their delivery service! I placed an order for a box of a dozen chocolates for my friend's birthday on October 2 and received an automated confirmation email. I know I chose the delivery option because it prompted me to input my friend's address for delivery separately from my address for payment. A week later the owner emailed me separately, claiming I had chosen the pickup option, and saying there would be an extra $10 fee for delivery. I replied that I had selected the delivery option initially. Finally, today on October 11, my friend received the chocolates with unprofessional delivery. Sitting on the outskirts of downtown Campbell, there is a cute chocolate shop called "Snake & Butterfly." Before you go in, you'll notice the sun cover decorated with many sparkling hearts. It was warm inside. For a hot summer day, a little air conditioning can be nice. The tables are decorated with local papers about the art and classes offered in Campbell and surrounding cities. It is cool to know what is going on locally. The server greeted me with a smile and there were many ice cream flavor options. I chose the mint chocolate chip ice cream small cup. I think the small cup is quite enough for s good summer dessert. It was fresh and I particularly like this chocolate because it is broken and sliced in many pieces, making it easy to blend in with the mint ice cream. As I rest my arm down, I noticed my arm had some chocolate stains. There were some chocolate stains on the table, so the tables and the chairs can use some cleaning. The server was very nice and I wish they opened with more hours so I can try the ice cream after dinner. read more

The Snake and Butterfly shop is well known in the area for its chocolate, you can find it sold in various coffee shops and other places. It is top quality chocolate, I prefer its dark chocolate selection. They also saw a variety of other things such as ice cream, and it's a coffee shop in its own right as well. I like this place but I feel they could make it more compelling, if feels a little randomly laid out. I think with just a little bit of work they could make this a nice place to go with friends and enjoy some coffee, chocolate or ice cream. Also just a selection of pastries, such as a croissant to go with a coffee would make a real difference as a place to go and just relax and hang. In short it is a good place to go and get a coffee, but I don't go as often as I would just because I feel they could do a bit more to make the place more interesting. Stopped in Snake & Butterfly for the first time under it's current ownership. Even before though I had only looked around and never bought anything. Oh boy have I been missing out! I went to pick up some truffles as a gift and after reading how delicious they sounded, like a kahlua and orange truffle, I walked away with some for myself as well. So far I've only tried one, but it was so delightful! Rich, creamy, and full of delicious chocolate and orange flavor. I will be heading back soon to get some more and potentially more as gifts as well. We received great customer service from the girl working, she was patient and willing to answer all of our questions about the truffles. They also have gelato, which I have been wanting to go get for a long time. Sadly they close at 5, so I haven't been able to get it just yet...but soon I will make it happen. read more

I wanna say you can't go wrong with chocolate. But apparently you can. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, during Oktoberfest, and they were out of a lot of the ice cream flavors. Not a big deal, I figured it must have been a busy day. We decided to try a few of the chocolate pieces. We only ordered 3... mixed nut turtle, coconut and macadamian. Well, the older asian man who served us only got one out of the three correct. The mixed nut turtle was pretty good, crunchy and sticky nut clusters combined with dark chocolate, definitely hit the spot. But it seems we received rocky road and peanut butter chocolates based on the tastes of it, which is not what we asked for... and we were already home by the time we realized the error. Needless to say, I couldn't give more than 2 stars as the worker did not listen carefully, or doesn't understand English, and/or did not care enough to give us our desired selections... either way, we never got to try the coconut or macadamian chocolates that we wanted. and getting an order right is a huge part of overall experience. read more

He insisted I sample many of the chocolates and gave me my own box of complimentary chocolates. I bought all the boxes as Christmas gifts. Very cute and quaint ice cream shop located in downtown Cambell. They had all the typical flavors you would find at any other ice cream shop. I got the mint chocolate ships with a waffle cone. If you get ice cream in a cup the spoon is a little shovel which I thought was so adorable. They have other things too, like chocolates, and drinks. We stopped by this chocolate shop a few days before Christmas to buy some assorted gift boxes. It is located in downtown Campbell, parking was easy and the location is very nice and quiet. We came without knowing what we wanted to get and the manager was super accommodating and friendly. We realized that we were shopping last-minute and the shop was very busy packing their gift boxes that were pre-ordered. However, the manager was very understanding. He explained the truffles flavors and how to pair it with what kind of food. When I explained what I was looking for for my friends, he proceeded to helping me choose the flavors that would go well together and also match with my friends' preferences. The boxes were hand-picked and hand-wrapped very carefully. My friends really loved the rich flavors of the truffles and the chocolate bars that I got for them. I definitely recommend Snake & Butterfly for your chocolate desires! Bonus: Out of curiosity, I also asked him how the truffles were made and stored. I was in the area buying some loose leaf teas, and also wanted some coffee for a little energy boost. I'm always excited for coffee when I'm out #steelbladder. It was my first time visiting the DT Campbell area, but I found the store easily towards the end of downtown Campbell. They had two tables outside for guests to enjoy their goodies. The interior might surprise you a bit. The store is spacious and has a high ceiling, with half the space dedicated to retail of some locally made products and the other half for the chocolates and barista(ing). After browsing the locally made goodies for a few minutes, the owner (I assume) approached us and gave us a brief on the store, and some guidance on the drinks. I ended up getting the Covfefe (god I love memes), but iced. If you get it iced, you can't add the customary truffle as "sweet bomb" in your drink but you can choose any chocolate to-go separately (this is +$0.50, for a total of $7.00). If you like your coffee sweetened I highly recommend getting it hot with the truffle bomb. I usually don't splurge this much in coffee, but I'm glad to support small business and try new drinks. :) Next time, I will probably try their Borgia. The owner is very hospitable, so overall it was a good "vibesy" experience! Good quality artisan truffles at a reasonable price compared to others in the area. Came near closing time and the shopkeepers were nice enough to help me choose the chocolate flavors. Some flavors are a hit or miss and I think it varies for everyone. I really liked the Dark Chocolate truffle and the Bourbon Apricot (has small fruit pieces in it). The ones I didn't like were I believe the Penuche and Bourbon Caramel. I think those ones had a sharper taste to it. read more

I decided to treat myself one day walking down in downtown Campbell and purchased 2 truffles: 1 galaxy and 1 passion fruit one (can't remember the exact names). I'll give it to Snake & Butterfly for having beautifully made truffles, and the staff is also very friendly and helpful. However, I think for the price (it was ~$6 for 2 truffles after tax), the truffles really missed the mark. The chocolates themselves did not have much of a chocolately/milky taste to it. The filling in the galaxy one was good, but not great. I liked the passion fruit filling more, but it was definitely not worth $3 for one (maybe 2) bites. I would suggest going somewhere else if you want nice chocolately truffles, I can't speak for the other stuff they have in store. read more

When my boyfriend and I walked by Snake & Butterfly, the case of beautiful truffles caught my eye from the sidewalk. What can I say--I'm a sucker for chocolatiers. Then I went from admiring the truffles to the gelato. There were so many unique flavors that you can't find anywhere else. I tried the apple creme fraiche and tres leches con alfajores flavors and loved both instantly. The apple creme fraiche reminded me of apple pie a la mode. I loved the real glazed cinnamon apples in each bite. Tres leches cake is one of my favorite desserts, and I'm a huge fan of alfajores. Putting them together in one gelato flavor was basically made for me. I enjoyed the bites of alfajores that gave nice crunches to the gelato. It wasn't overly sweet either, which was a nice surprise. Apparently I don't ever go past Aqui in Campbell (ahem, swirls). I had no idea that Snake & Butterfly was not only a few stores down but also had been there for 6 years. Lol whoops! With that said, I've been doing myself a disservice by missing out on some pretty amazing gelato. I won't be making the same mistake, however. First time here. My friend saw this chocolatier from across the street while walking down busy Campbell Ave. on a Friday evening. In a nano second we were in the store. You want chocolate confections? You want gelato confections? You want coffee confections? You're in the right place. I first spied a pretty display of shiny truffles, but I was there for gelato. While Hubby bought a large chocolate hazelnut ($6) to share, I snagged a table outside to people watch. It was a wise choice on both counts! CONS (-) Super expensive. $6.50 for one scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. It was really good so #noregrets, but I can't imagine coming here if I had kids. (-) I would not recommend specialty coffee here. I ordered a cappuccino. I overheard the barista explaining how to make it to a new employee: "We do a really wet cappuccino... whole milk... basically a latte with a little more foam." Hearing this, I should have retracted my order. But I decided to clarify that I actually wanted it dry (just espresso + foam). She said yes, but I still got essentially a whole-milk latte.. ended up throwing it out a few sips later. Wow! They have quite the array of chocolates! Not only do they LOOK delicious (I'm a sucker for all of the colors), but they're pretty yummy too. One of my friends even had the chocolates as a wedding favor once (It was a great idea!), which brought me into the store in the first place. I primarily come to Snake & Butterfly for the gelato though. When it first opened, I think I tried a sample of all of their flavors, but now, you can only have 3 samples. So choose wisely! The flavors are all very rich. Though there's an ice cream store closeby, having gelato available makes my decision quite easy. I haven't tried their coffee yet, but their gelato is delicious. Also, I appreciate that you can get half/half in a small size! $4 for a small. Not bad! We got creme brulee and dark chocolate. YUM! Since Gelato Classical was bought and lost its soul long ago, my gelato craving was unfulfilled. Until this day... I ventured farther into the depths of Campbell and have the delicious gelato I have been craving for. They let me taste many flavors. My favorite is the Almond Toffee. I'm excited for a new bandwagon to jump on because I've never been a coffee person but chocolate, I can do! S&B sells many things, but their signature item is probably their truffles and what gorgeous truffles they are! You can't miss the case, with its striking display of galaxy and marble colors. Pre-made gift boxes are available, or you can do a custom box anywhere from 2-25 pieces at $2/truffle. During this visit, we tried a little bit of everything on the menu. -Gelato: Sourced from Lush Gelato. Out of the pistachio, earl grey, and honey lavender flavors that we tried, pistachio was by far the best. Overall, the flavors were good and didn't taste artificial. You can choose to do a gelato flight, which is pretty awesome. -Hot chocolate: Made with their house-made chocolate. I actually didn't enjoy this. It was slightly bitter and had a flavor reminiscent of coffee to me. -Chocolate flight: For $10, you can try 5 truffles of your choice. I let them help me choose, opting to try both conventional and adventurous flavors. We got the dark chocolate, white pear cardamom, salted caramel, caramelo, and olive oil meyer lemon sage. I particularly enjoyed the dark chocolate and white pear cardamom. Wasn't a fan of the caramels. They had a nice chewy texture, but were too sweet for me. It was fun to get the chocolate flight, but along with a big cup of hot chocolate, I got chocolate fatigue by the end. You can definitely share a flight with more people. I liked their unique truffle flavors and ended up getting a custom box. They'd make great gifts for foodies and non-foodies alike. I mean, who doesn't like chocolate? And really pretty ones, at that. I'd like to do a tasting package here sometime, which comes with some chocolate education and hands on chocolate making. S&B has so many things to try out. This is hands-down the best gelato place I've ever been to (not exaggerating!!) First of all, knowing me, yes I went in to sample like all the flavors and the owner was so nice! His son also helped us and he was really helpful and eager, which just made our experience even better. The flavors are pretty unique and all really well-done. The Whiskey Walnut is amazing and I will keep coming back for that flavor alone. The real question is--is there actual Whiskey in there...bc wow even better. I'm not really a fruity gelato person, but my cousin got the Mango sorbet and that one was also fire. Tastes like real mangos and so smooth and creamy. My favorite thing about this place is the vibe. What an awkward experience we had visiting Snake & Butterfly! We used to go to this gelato shop awhile ago, and the owners were always so welcoming & engaging, so decided to pop in when I noticed they serve Barefoot coffee. I was mulling over the menu when a man (middle aged) walked over to me. He didn't greet me at all, just a blank stare. Ok. Fine. I then inquired what the "something" Borgia drink was and he described it. We asked some more questions & told him we were still mulling over the menu. The server (I would hope it wasn't the owner based on the lackluster customer service) just didn't seem like he wanted to be there or interact with customers in any way. I also ordered a chocolate gelato for my kids, and the man that helped me was nice enough to split it into 2 cups (they usually take a few bites and are full). I do want to give everyone a heads up that we were asked to eat outside because my 2 year old didn't have a mask on. I thought it was a little strange since we would take off our masks once we sat down to eat, but he said he was being extra cautious because of a recent warning from the health department. Very creamy gelato, but didn't really meet the flavor expectations in my opinion. I tried the Earl Grey and the Creme Fraiche with Chocolate Chips and Black Pepper. Earl Grey was decent, but the tea flavor was subtle at best. The Creme Fraiche definitely hit on that sour note, tasting almost like goat-cheese...but the Black Pepper didn't show up at all! Had there been just a hint of spice, I think this flavor would be have been really good...despite leaning towards the savory side in terms of flavor.
