We were greeted by Juli, who also served us, and she immediately set the tone for a great visit. She was patient, welcoming, and took her time walking us through the menu--explaining each dish, how it's prepared, and what makes everything unique. Her commitment to customer satisfaction truly stood out. She mentioned that every item on the menu is made in‑house, and it absolutely shows. Management should know what an asset they have in her. My wife ordered the Mago BLT Frita, beans (similar to refried), and a side of three croquetas--and she couldn't stop talking about how incredible everything tasted. I went with the Frita Tradicional and the pea soup of the day. We had never tried a Frita before and honestly didn't even know what to expect, but everything was delicious. The pea soup and the croquetas were real standouts--a perfect example of why in‑house preparation makes such a difference. Since we're not from the area, we weren't sure where to go for lunch, and we truly lucked out choosing El Mago de las Fritas--and having Juli as our server. Thank you, Juli. Making fritas for almost 50 years, Ortelio Cardenas (now over 80 and still coming into work everyday) and his amazing daughter, Martha, have really created something authentic and special. I am picky about my croquetas and these reminded me of the ones I had as a kid with my grandmother using the molinero (grinder) in the kitchen. They were seasoned and fried to a golden perfection. They also have fresh juices and shakes. We opted for Watermelon juice and a Malteado (malted shake). Sooo refreshing and good! Our fritas came out soon after. I had the traditional and the hubs had his "Al caballo" which means it has a fried egg on top. If you don't know what a frita is-- imagine a smash burger but made into a perfect patty and with a blend of Cuban spices topped with your choice of tomato, lettuce, a fried egg, it always with potato sticks on top for crunch beautifully wedged in between to pieces of the best bun you can imagine. THAT is a frita. It's an experience and this is the place in which to experience it. It totally hit the spot and more than satisfied a long time craving. Best thing I've eaten in a while!!! Don't forget the cafecito and dessert. We had the home made flan, and again, I can't say enough. It's creamy and delicious and one of THE best flans I've had since Lila's closed down.
