Morty not only welcomed me, but asked my name, what I did for a living, and how satisfied I was with my job within the first minute of meeting. A natural at conversation and customer service skills - my new best friend that I had never met. While he prepared my dogs, I asked him about the "ripper" sauce that is on the menu. Not only did I get a sample of his handmade recipe, but the origin story of how he discovered it while serving in the military in Germany. It was a sweet / tangy mustard and onion concoction that I will definitely order on my next trip if it's available on his rotating menu at that time. My Chicago Dog and Chili Cheese Dogs were perfection. The Chicago Dog had all the proper fresh ingredients with a Vienna Beef dog and a soft poppy seed bun. With one bite I was transported back to my frequent Chicago Dog lunches when living in Chicago almost 30 years ago. The Chili cheese dog was just as magical with a creamy warm cheese sauce between the soft bun and dog and then covered in a no-bean saucy meat chili...just as God intended. Morty's is only open 7 hours a week - 11:00am - 1:20pm W, TH & FR, so plan accordingly and go meet my new best friend and get a couple of life's simple all-American pleasures.

Well, I recently decided to finally put that can in the recycling bin and actually make it over to Wiener Kitchen....and...OH MY GOD IT'S AMAZING!!!! Why have I wasted so many weeks of my life not knowing how delicious the food is here? When the staff realized it was my first visit, they gave me the entire rundown of the food cooked onsite and the fact that you can also purchase their meats to cook yourself at home. It's a pretty small area for eating, but that won't stop me from coming back again and again because I can't believe how much I enjoyed the Chorizo Rojo and the Jalapeno Cheddar Kielbasa! I also had the Chicken Apple which was good, but the other two were the stars of my tastebuds. They premix their cocktails and he was happy to let me try a sip of the ones that interested me. Speaking of.... They're quite ingenious! While cucumber flavor in a drink is hardly revolutionary, red bell pepper IS- and you can taste it! None of them were to my particular liking, but to be honest, I am a bit of a picky eater. He had great patience with me on modifications to my burger- and, again, remembered that I didn't want the sauce. This is honestly a cool little place with a super chill vibe. The menu is very simple - hot dogs, Italian sausage, Italian beef sandwiches, and French fries, with Italian ice available for dessert. The Italian beef is just like I remember from my trips to Chicago. The giardiniera was a little spicier than I've had previously which means I liked it more that others I've had. And the sausage - oh man, you need to try it. They make their own sausage from the owner's father Benedetto Mammina's recipe and it is good and tasty. My only slight knock is they don't currently offer iced tea, but hopefully that's something they can easily add in the future. I'll definitely be returning to check it out again.

It was super busy and almost all sitting spots were taken. We found a table luckily in the back side of the store. This store had both the donuts and the drinks. They had the corn dogs in the menu as well. We ordered three of the mochinuts and Thai iced tea with boba for myself. Prices were similar to other stores I had been to. The donuts were soft and very tasty. The tea was decent, but I was shocked that top 20% of my cup was empty just because I said no ice. Since the store was busy, staff members were trying their best to keep up with the orders. Despite my disappointment with the drink, I is still a good place to grab some delicious sweet bites and drinks.
