Is this the most scenic spot in southern Vermont to stop in for a drink or make a liquor purchase?…read more I think so! You've got breathtaking views out the window or sitting in the yard behind the store. There's even a few more breathtaking views looking across the street from the parking lot. I was going to say location is everything, but then there's the liquor. You're allowed 4 complimentary tastes. These are not large, maybe thimble sized, but you definitely get an idea of the flavors. I came here specifically for the maple whiskies (well, it IS Vermont), but I also enjoyed the cherry liqueur, something I definitely wanted for my liquor cabinet as well. I didn't purchase any of their crafted cocktails, but other customers in the store while I was there did, and they were obviously satisfied. Obviously the products here are elevated in both taste and height above sea level.

They then let you know you can sample 4 different spirits, my wife and I declined on this part only due to the fact we stopped at the nearby brewery first. We went right into picking our cocktails. Next time we definitely would do the sampling. Cocktail wise their current menu was broken into three different sections, those being Vodka, Bourbon, and lastly moonshine. An extra category on the bottom did include two mocktails as well. I thought the cocktails were extremely reasonable either being $11 or $13. I got their peach smash which was a really good drink utilizing their honey bourbon and peach liqueur which was balanced so well! My wife got their French martini that utilized their vodka and raspberry liqueur and came in a frosted glass. We loved both of the drinks and even though my wife typically is not a bourbon fan she liked mine. While we enjoyed our drinks inside and appreciated the atmosphere of the inside including the decor the true view is outside. Enjoy your cocktail while taking in the view, you can be on the patio or at a table or chair at the overlook. Can snap some amazing photos that's for sure! To sum it up, friendly and welcoming staff who make delicious cocktails with a great setting inside and out!

To me, there's something special about a visit to Yankee Distillers. There's a sense of "We know…read morewhat we want to do, and we're gonna do it!" here that I haven't gotten from many other distilleries. Being off the beaten path, it's not someplace that will get a lot of casual drive by's - they get the people who want to come here. I wasn't sure what would be of interest to me here. After the tastings, I was very pleasantly surprised to find it would be their vodka! I'm not normally a vodka person, but there is a very short list of distilleries that make a vodka I can actually sip, and I just added their Eleven Lakes Vodka to that list, most likely right at the top. Finishing a very close second was their Rye. By the way, the ingredients for these come 100% from New York State. And with so many distilleries in NY shortening their aging, I appreciated that all their whiskies age a minimum of 6.5 years. The people here definitely love their craft and appreciate conversation with folk who have an understanding of distilling. If, of course, you can make it past the very effective guard dogs, Basil and Barley - though it's not so much they're protecting the place, just making sure they get their much deserved attention from you before, during, and after, your drinks. There's almost always something new going on here; when we arrived today's list had just been freshly laminated. Visit often.

They are going the extra mile by making authentic mixers made with real ingredients. Take one look at the container of bloody mary mix on the bar and you will see what I mean. The other draw at Yankee is the team of pugs that meet you on arrival. They look like loaves of bread with smooshy faces connected. One will sit on your lap with out any coaxing! This is a happy place serving happy things. The bottles of booze are a bit pricey but the drinks are reasonable. Definitely get out and enjoy one soon!

On the drive back from Montpelier to Portland, following the pilgrimage made by many a New Englander to witness solar eclipse totality, I had to get off the road, out of traffic, and find a restroom stat. It was divine intervention that made me pull off that specific exit. It seemed dead amongst the nearby businesses in that little enclave, but a hint of human activity pulled me towards Vermont Spirits. After my coy request and use of the restroom (what a relief!), I stood at the bar and asked about their line of products. Barkeep Meg was nice enough to allow me to sample some of their offerings, including the super secret juice! Also really appreciated being able to talk with the chief, Randy, and exchange eclipse experiences. Really friendly folks, and it truly kept my sanity in check. Thanks for the conversation and allowing this wayward traveller use of your restroom. My bladder thanks you! I've already cooked up a couple cocktails with the No. 14. Delicious stuff!

Our waitress checked in on us a few times, but it was very slow, so she was keeping busy which is great. I believe the owner was there as well and answered some e off the wall question I had about some other Yelp review pictures (the one with the barrels for sale cause that deal looked unreal!). This place is super clean and very inviting. Even walking in the door an employee was walking out and just randomly gave us a friendly hello while looking at the menu posted outside. Can't say much about the food, just had the ahi tuna which was good but the cocktails were on point and the whiskey was delicious and not overpriced for such a tourist destination. I thought maybe 4 stars would be fair but for service, hospitality and coziness of this place, gives it a Lake George 5 stars.
