    Figgy piggy pizza
    David C.

We have been enjoying the craft beer, food and crew at Slatetown Brewing since they opened. Decided to celebrate "national pizza day" with a pizza from Slatetown. We choose the "figgy piggy". Perfect thin crust with a slight chew. The combination of fig jam, bacon, Gouda cheese with arugula and a drizzle of balsamic syrup drizzle is awesome. You can't go wrong with any pizza or other food they offer. The craft beer is also excellent, as is the crew!

Great selection of beers. I love that they have small pour options (5 and 12 oz). The pizza was delicious, great crust! Nice vibe.

If you're going to open the first brewery in a town that has been dry for almost 100 years (in case…read moreyou were wondering why Argyle Brewing is one town over...) you'd better do it right. And this place does it more than right. Opening in November shortly after the ordinance allowing alcohol sales in the town, Highlander brews excellent beers served in a lovely setting. Billing themselves as a "farm to pint" brewery, Highlander is situated on a beautiful, sprawling farm, where they grow their own hops and barley (used in their own products as well as to produce malt for themselves and to sell to other local brewers). While they have a cool indoor taproom, the current Covid restrictions naturally mean that outdoor seating with food options are the current setting, which only allows you to enjoy their excellent beer with a lovely outdoor view. I tried the Fir Baby, a hazy ale with that might be a great option for people who dislike the overpowering hophead IPAs--the beer featured the unique touch of fir tips from farm Christmas trees in lieu of/to supplement traditional hops, creating an interesting flavor profile. The other beer I tried was simply excellent, a Brown Maple Ale. Now I love brown ales and I love maple syrup, but offerings like this always make me a little nervous, as I fear they inevitably turn out too sweet. Not this, which had a wonderful beer flavor with just that slight maple hint at the end--according to the brewer, the maple is added in fermentation and not after. At any rate, it was subtle and wonderfully done. My friend tried the Blonde Ale and the Strawberry Rhubarb Blonde and enjoyed them both. Diverse beer offerings (a couple of IPAs on the menu as well), all reasonably priced and most in the 5-6.5% ABV range. Would have liked to try a stout, but they said they usually feature those more in the winter than the summer, which is understandable. The food truck was a nice touch--if it's not just a Covid tack-on, I think it would be a great idea to keep. Having a few options (such as the tasty mozzarella sticks) to try with the beer was a nice touch, and probably kept us there a bit longer. Staff was friendly--our server Nicole was great and knowledgeable about the beers, and as mentioned, one of the owners, Jeff, swung by to ask how we were enjoying everything and discuss the beers and ingredients with us. Also as mentioned, a very lovely setting to enjoy a beer. A bit tough to get to/off the main road, but the trip--and the beer--is certainly worth it.

But each of their tasting rooms has its own positives. The big one here is their parking lot - which is literally big (and free!). It's also family (kid) friendly, though that also means it can get very noisy. There's lots of open space available in nice weather. The afternoon I went, it was very busy, and I overheard one employee tell one customer that they were busier than anticipated. But every single person there was working their tail off. Food and drink still came out quickly and with a smile and friendly conversation. Be aware that the hallway for staff exiting the kitchen is also the space towards the rest rooms, so be sure to give those folks the right of way. I'm still going through their beer list in both places, and the list in this South Glens Falls location is extensive. Their food has always been high quality as well. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner with your drinks.

Sometimes, after a day out in VT, you just need a beer. Or a sandwich. Or both. Or many. Snow Republic has got you. They have great sandwiches, beers, FRIES, and super friendly service. Looking for a spot to grab food and a beer this looked to the perfect spot. They are a dog friendly establishment so dog owners can know. Food wise they offered a variety of pizzas, burgers, fries, and other sandwiches. Beer wise was a little disappointing for our visit considering everything on draft was an IPA with a can option of a porter. I enjoy IPAs and know how popular the style is but at least have a couple other options available at all times. Can never go wrong with a light lager or pilsner and even a sour as well. Drink wise I grabbed The Magic Carpet Ride that was a Session IPA at 5% that packed a lot of flavor for the low ABV and my wife even liked it as a non-IPA fan. She grabbed the porter and thought it was alright but nothing memorable and not the best style for warm summer weather at times. Food wise she got their Luigi (grilled chicken sandwich) while I got their OG Chicken Sandwich (fried chicken). Her sandwich was good while mine was tasty yet one side of it tasted burnt and had a slight unpleasant taste to it. The sauce on it was really tasty though. We also split their cheesy bacon fries and they were loaded with bacon and cheese. The biggest knock was the fries themselves were cold from the start. Would likely pass on them next time. The overall vibe of the place was nice, had a rustic cabin woodsy feel to it as you'd expect for rural Vermont. The music being played though was tropical and it was a nice unexpected surprise. They had both inside and outside seating, outside was a little bit of a miss with the road being so close and noise of traffic. We did prefer inside overall. They also had many games you could play, a pool table, shuffleboard, and card/board games too. Overall I would say the food and beers knocked it down by one star but still worth visiting! Great vibes just not our favorite brewery.

Their new location in North Hudson is huge and wonderful. Coincidentally, I just realized after reading my previous review that we were here this time on their twelfth anniversary, July 26th. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PB! Being in Schroon Lake for a memorial visit, it seemed reasonable to travel another twelve miles north to pay PB a visit before returning home. Their parking lot was almost full at 7:30 on a Saturday night. It was amusing to notice the car license plates from so many different states (Canada is still understandingly boycotting the US). There being a 20 to 30 minute wait for a table, we managed to snag two unreserved stools at the bar. I chose to request a Paradox Helles (German style pale lager) while my wife went with a Ginger Hibiscus Cider. Both were excellent. While my wife munched on a House Made Pretzel, I thoroughly enjoyed a Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of spicy coleslaw and potato chips. I dumped the coleslaw (which I didn't find spicy at all) on top of the pulled pork and really enjoyed the combined flavors, textures, and tenderness of the pork on the toasted brioche roll. It was messy but delicious. Their pizzas looked good as I saw them pass by. Next visit may need to be on a weekday when they are less likely to be so busy. Service was excellent considering how busy they were.
