I keep trying trying to be an adult...wine tasting. This lil gem is right on rt5 in Putney VT (downstairs from the closed Basketville). This little winery is amazing. No grapes, all fruit locally sourced (except the cranberries) and lovely liquors. Kim provided us with all the info on the wines. I'm not into dry and still appreciated the pear wine. In the end, we purchased the rhubarb blush. Sooo yummy. Saving this for a young lady's 94th birthday. Check out the pictures. Come sit a spell and enjoy a glass or two of delicious wine.

I loved this spot! Added it as a planned spot to a weekend trip in Vermont. The host was extremely nice and told about each of the wines and liqueurs. The Rhubard Blush wine and Simply Honey liqueur was my favorite. Definitely recommend. There is a cute seating area too.

Ventured out to Putney for a wine tasting and was not expecting how amazing our experience would be. We sampled 6 wines and 6 liqueurs for $5.50. Every time a new sample came out we kept repeating "okay this one is my favorite". The owner (and server) was so kind and knowledgeable. All of the fruits are locally sourced and every drink has a story. 10/10 would recommend this spot!

This place is so great. The woman who did the wine tasting was knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up getting a whole case of wine Back story I found this winery 20 years ago on a trip to Vermont. I fell in love with the wines. I love that they are made of everything except grape. I would suggest doing the whole tasting to get a taste of what you like. Our top favorites were blueberry, cranberry and rhubarb. This is a must stop if you are in the area. If you aren't they ship! read more

What a hidden gem! Great fruit winery in Putney, VT with all ingredients grown or brought in locally. We stumbled upon this spot right before closing and the staff was so accommodating to our large group (and others who popped in)! This is a pretty small space with some seating and a few goodies for sale like syrups, crafts, and more. We did a large group tasting of some of their top wines and spirits and it was only $5 for a sample (about 1-2 sips) great little trial if you want to try everything. The Cranberry absolutely blew me away - it was described as tasting like Ocean Spray and oh boy did it... dangerous! I brought 2 bottles home! BONUS: This spot is dog friendly! read more

This is not your typical winery -- and that's what makes it special! Putney Mountain Winery offers premium wines and liqueurs made from real, locally sourced ingredients like blueberries, strawberries, rhubarb, apples, and more. You can really taste the quality and creativity in every sip. I stopped by the tasting room in Putney and was blown away. The tasting guide (I wish I remembered her name!) was incredibly warm and engaging -- she made me feel like an old friend the moment I walked in. Holy moly get your wine loving bum here now!!! Wow! Everything is super flavorful and all of them we loved. We came home with the chocolate and maple liquor because we couldn't live without them. Their wines are also insanely good and fruity! Tasting was outside, nothing fancy but worth going to try! read more

What a gem we found in Putney! For $5 you get a tasting of 6 wines and 6 liqueurs, each unique and delicious in their own way. We overheard another customer say "I have never been to a wine tasting where I enjoyed every single wine, until today," and I have to agree. It was such a treat to hear the story behind each sample from the owner - he was so kind and personable. Only suggestion would be to play some smooth music to up the ambiance. read more

We stumbled upon Putney Mountain Winery and stopped in to do a tasting. The winery tasting is located inside of a large basket and gift store and the tastings are reasonably priced. The wines are all made with fruit, not grapes. They are very drinkable and smooth. We enjoyed tasting them and chatting with the employees. You can spend time tasting and then shop to your hearts content. read more

Set in Basketville, the tasting room was gorgeous. Wood beams in a big (abandoned) showroom. The girl who did our tasting was so sweet. $3 for tastings of all they had which was 7 wines and 7 liquors including a 100 proof apricot brandy. Good deal for a mini buzz!! When you buy a case you get 10% discount, free tastings and 2 wine glasses. Very fun way to spend an hour. Ginger liquor was unbelievable. Can't wait to mix it with tequila! And the flavored fruit wines were all very good. read more

We visited recently (July 2020) Loved the experience- excellent wines- traditional grape wines and wonderful fruit wines- I was very impressed with the ginger liquor and strawberry-Rhubarb wine. Love this Vermont winery! My favorite wine is the apple maple but everything they have is so delicious! We've been driving up from Connecticut to this winery for 16 years! The liquors are amazing too! The honey, the ginger, the chocolate and cassis together! Pure heaven! read more

We stopped here on our way (a bit out of our way) to Albany and had a great experience. We both had a tasting. For $5 each we got a taste of everything Putney makes. Kim was great explaining each wine and liqueur as she served them to us. The ginger liqueur tastes like fresh ginger root. I bought a bottle for cocktails. I've never tasted such a true ginger flavor in a drink. We also took home the maple liqueur and honey liqueur. It's gonna be a good fall for cocktails. Stop by Putney. Definitely worth a visit. read more

We are visiting from out of state. Putney Winery was recommended to us by our KOA hostess, Kat. For $5 you taste six wines and six liqueurs. One wine was sold out so only five wines for us. We purchased nine bottles of wine and three bottles of liqueur. What a great time we had too! Lucky for us they ship to our home state of Illinois! I highly recommend this winery! read more

I'm writing to review Putney Mountain's mail order service. When it comes to Maple products, I'm a bit of a snob and must have it directly from Vermont. I ordered some apple maple wine from Putney Mountain and UPS royally screwed up the order. Customer service at Putney Mountain could not have been better. I even got a personally signed receipt. Who does that? Putney Mountain didn't have to make UPS's error right at their expense, but they did. I'm going to enjoy a little taste of Vermont over the holidays not hesitate to order other products from them again. read more

We took a detour on a road trip and found this gem. The wine tasting is $5 and you get to taste an assortment of fantastic wines and liqueurs. They have some cute little tables you can sit around and their wines by the glass are priced very well. We left with several bottles and can't wait to try them at home. read more

Putney Mountain Winery was started by Kate and Charles Dodge, a husband and wife team in Putney, Vermont. They began by making apple wines from local apples as a hobby, and have been expanding to ever since. Christian greeted us nicely and recommended certain ways of doing tastings and specs of each. He chatted while making bar menu cocktails for other guests. We each selected a regular flight and a reserve flight to try all their spirit options that we thought interesting. I can't say enough about how very impressed I am with the quality of the bourbons produced here. The double barrel bourbon, a maple bourbon and & a maple rye were all excellent choices on the regular flight menu. I also appreciated Perk coffee liqueur & the flavors and complexity of the Snowdrop gin. ($5 flight) On the reserve flight, friends chose the 15 year angel bourbon, 12 year rye reserve, aged snowdrop gin, and the vineyard rye full strength. ($12 flight) Really can't say enough about the quality that is offered here! Plus the facilities are inviting and I'd enjoy a day on the patio or to hear some music some afternoon, it's a great spot. I highly recommend a stop and purchase here! Cheers.

The drive is reminiscing of a Currier & Ives and, As a matter of fact, the highway into town (Rte 127) is also called Currier & Ives highway. Grandiose, pre-Revolutionary War homes, meticulously kept, line the highway. Once on the property, we went into the building that houses the wine making apparatus, part of which is now the tasting room. We tried seven different offerings including Elderberry, Blackberry, plum and the Jalapeño. Today, 30 October, will be the opening of their new tasting room, a pre-Civil War building that served as a manufacturing area for Union troop boots during the Civil War. The outside is still historically accurate but the inside is completely rebuilt in a post and beam motif. The place also has its own mascot, a beautiful half Cairns and half Jack Russell dog that is the friendliest dog ever.

They have the personality, flavor and feel of a smaller vineyard that anyone will enjoy if they go.

10/10 recommend! Went as a group of 5 for about 1.5 hours, the owner was so nice and told us a story about how each wine and liquor was made, and recommend various ways to drink and mix each one! These were some of the most unique wines I've ever tasted, great variation of dry and sweet wines. Absolutely recommend visiting, I will be back next time I'm in Vermont! We decided to do a wine tasting after hiking and found this gem. We only paid $5 for a tasting of each of the wines and liqueurs they have in stock. Kim was an amazing host and explained what each wine and liqueur was and ways to make it yummier. If you're in the area this is a must stop on your trip. Charles qas a joy. A tasting experience slow and descriptive so you dont just rush through. Definitely our best rhubarb wine ever. Liquers like youve never had...ginger, honey maple and then there is chocolate that is like drinking chocolate syrup..their prized liqeur is vermont cassis a wonderful fruit blend..
