There were a couple of reasons I was especially interested in visiting Village Garage Distillery. One was that in 2023, they had a table at a whiskey tasting event in Massachusetts that I attended, but I did not make it to their table, so I felt an interest and an obligation. The other was that on their website, they advertise Jonathan Goldsmith as their "chief storyteller." He is an actor who portrayed "the world's most interesting man" in numerous advertisements. I seriously doubted he'd actually be there on a Wednesday afternoon at 4pm (and I was right), but it still seemed an interesting thing to have. The distillery is fairly large, bright, and comfortable, both with tables for eating and drinking, and a lot of seats along the fairly long bar. They have a standard pour, for $18, featuring 1oz. pours of 3 of their products, two bourbons and one rye. Other pour options and other drinks are certainly available. Conversation at the bar can be lively, especially if you get someone who is more involved with the production of their products. Food options are available, though I didn't try anything. The distillery is not in the "downtown" area but is only a short, 4-minute walk from it. They have a fairly large parking area as well should you opt to drive there. read more

Just a bit disappointed in my second visit. The extensive menu online (Google images) doesn't seem to be available; it's a much more limited menu. (First visit was for a special menu for Valentine's Day - excellent food although overpriced, even for Valentine's Day.) They were out of the fish and chips (on a Friday evening during Lent!). The cheese curds in my friend's poutine could have been better melted. My mushroom alla vodka was very good; the Bell and Evans chicken was very flavorful. The server (Emily) was excellent, as was the blueberry cheesecake. Would I go back? Probably. read more

Great addition to the town. Beautiful place with great food options and delicious cocktails. The Pineapple Express cocktail went down like juice. The grown up grilled cheese was very good, but also incredibly filling. The Bonfire was my favorite of the alcohol we tried. We took home a couple of bottles! read more

I've eaten here twice. The rating is based on the inconsistency between the two visits, and overall experience. Neither were spectacular. First visit there were four of us celebrating an occasion. Made our reservation for 4:30 to avoid the dinner rush. One of five tables occupied and waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged. Another 20 before we got our drinks. Maybe the server was having a bad day. I asked for a beer list and she said they were a cocktail bar. We ordered, one of our party asked if the fries with her smash burger could be poutine. Waitress said she'd ask the kitchen. They accommodated. All in all the drinks were stiff, no one complained about their food minus the "pork belly" up charge that was just a thin slice of bacon, and the mistake of a dry waffle instead of bread for their grilled cheese. My husband and I made our most recent reservation late to avoid the dinner rush. Hostess tried to sit us next to a screaming toddler. They only had their drinks, so it was clear they were just starting their experience. I politely asked to be at a different table. She reluctantly accommodated. I work in the industry and I get how tables are split up between servers but there were only four tables sat so I didn't think it would be an issue. Service was rather slow to start, but our drinks were strong. My husband ordered the king cut prime. It came out with different veg than listed on the menu. Fat wasn't rendered at all, meant itself was tough, and it was tiny for a $32 special. What a waste. Charcuterie was a joke. Less than ten slices of cheese, (one of which was parm? Lol what?) a cold baguette sliced way too thick, no jam, and stale chocolate covered pretzels. All in all, overpriced underwhelming fare at an establishment that no doubt is just another watering hole for locals with a bit more expendable income. read more

The Village Garage Distillery is firing on all cylinders! Located at 107 Depot St, Bennington, VT the Distillery was an awesome place to visit. We recently went there with our Bourbon Club members and spouses for an extraordinary evening. We were pleasantly greeted at the door by Jamie who then introduced us to Head Distiller Ryan Scheswohl. Ryan took our group on a tour of the operation and explained how they produce a variety of products and do so with great environmental consciousness. Following the tour, we got to sample "the goods." Each product was delightful! Including the unique batch of Gin aged in mead barrels (you'll have to visit to learn more about it). We also met partner Glen, who helped with the sampling part and described some of the building design work. The yumminess didn't end at the liquid tastings. Our very friendly waitress, also named Jamie (a PSC graduate), took care of our dinner orders. We started with cheese trays and appetizers and all ordered a variety of different main courses. Each item was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. Our group had 17 folks and the food came out super fast (props to the kitchen crew!). We all had a wonderful experience and we'll be sure to visit again! read more

What a great place! Great well thought out bar with fun drinks. They thought of everything including round "branded" ice cubes. Draft beer is drawn up into the glass, so many little touches that made our visit fun. Our bartender Amanda was professional, informative, and friendly. We went on a Wednesday in the early afternoon as we were passing through, so the kitchen was closed thus can't comment about the food. We'll definitely go back! read more

Second time I've gone to the Village Garage Distillery and really loved everything about this place. The ambiance is rustic sheik and welcoming. Staff is friendly and helpful in explaining the craft drink offering as well as the creative dishes. We had cheese board with a great selection of cheeses, fruit, nuts, crackers and nuts. I ate the Ramen with pork belly which was rich and with great dept of flavor. My friends had the club sandwich, the pork ribs and the grain bowl. All the meals were delicious and although all were good size portions we all cleaned our plates. This is a Distillery so drinks were a must. The drink offerings were creative and well balanced. During my last visit I did the flight of spirits and each had really nice smooth flavors. Overall, I highly recommend the Village Garage Distillery and recommend that if you are in the neighborhood take a ride over to Bennington. You won't be disappointed! read more

Came to Bennington for the opening weekend of the distillery. It did not disappoint! Went there Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday for brunch. We tried all aspects of the menu and the food was spectacular! From the apps to main dishes, adult grilled cheese to Ramen, just fantastic. On a leaf peeping day we ended up at the Village Garage Distillery and life is changed forever. This is not your grandfather's old fashioned!! My partner had a bourbon old fashioned with maple syrup and walnut bitters and GAME CHANGER!! I'd say he had it but I had multiple sips and it is by far the best drink I've ever not ordered! I enjoyed a dry gin martini which was lovely but next time I'm going to have to get that old fashioned. Look forward to going back for diner and more drinks! Excellent friendly service. I was looking for an EV charging station and happened on this gem. If you enjoy spirits, this is a must stop! OMG, I enjoyed the bourbon and the gin best but the vodka was as smooth as you'll find anywhere. A smoky maple whisky had a very nice balance. At this time, they have snacks before 4 and a nice menu for dinner. I had the hummus and chips and that was also of good quality. The service was great, albeit I was the only customer at the time - Wednesday at 2. The atmosphere is well done - true to the name - Garage chic. Really blown away by this place. You would think for a distillery the food would just be an afterthought, but WRONG.
