Update: I've been coming here since 2015, and although I've gone to a couple other wax businesses, this one is my home favorite (with one other waxer I see at a different business). The feeling here is such high class and really feels like a nice & serene spa. I love shopping in the front/reception area (their cards are hilarious!) and waiting in the waiting room is so luxurious. The chairs are so cozy and the beautiful decor is always fun! I've seen a couple waxers who no longer work here (due to moving or raising a baby- hope you two girls are doing great, if you ever see this!), and I now see Starla. She's so efficient & does a beautiful Brazilian to the forestry that I grow. She has such great conversation and I thoroughly enjoy seeing her every so often! I also get my upper legs waxed every so often, and she does a great job on those, too! A total comfort to be on her waxing table (I mean, the wax sometimes hurts, since I'm not consistent, but I never shave, so you know that helps). Waxing can be such a nerve-wracking process but Smooth removes the roadblocks that might make you nervous if you are a first-time waxer. I appreciate the ease of online booking and the confirmation texts. Walking into the space there is a sense of calm, almost like a spa experience. I love all the fun products they have in the lobby. It is a great space to stop for unique gifts. After checking in, you go to the waiting area in the back that is so beautifully decorated with comfortable chairs. I only wish they would fully close the curtain that covers the window to the arcade outside of the business. Sometimes it feels awkward making eye contact with people walking past. Starla is my go-to esthetician. She is professional and personable. She always makes me feel at ease and is so easy to talk to. I'm anxious for the pandemic to be over so more of the waxing services like chin and face can return but other than that I have a genuinely positive experience every time I go to Smooth. I have been coming here consistently for about three years. The staff is friendly, the environment is quiet and calming and the estheticians do a great job. The space is nice and clean and I always feel relaxed as soon as I walk in. Checking in as well as scheduling appointments are a breeze and I love the little shop of various products that they offer. Edit: I did receive phone calls about not being charged for half the service that day, an apology, and a $19 credit being added to my account. I have a lot of respect for the business for fixing the issue, however, the experience was truly discouraging so I don't think I'll ever return. I'm changing my review to 4 stars because they handled the situation very well, but the situation should have never happened at all. I'm giving 3 stars (even though I would like to go lower) because this is one of the best places to get your eyebrows done. I also don't want to discredit the estheticians, because the policy's aren't up to them. It's really hard to find a place that does decent eyebrows in Hampton roads. I also enjoyed inside of smooth. It was calm and cozy, as well as decorate really well. But I will never return, even though I was so excited to be a regular. I had an appointment at 9 so I left my house 35 minutes early since it's a 20 minute drive and I had to make time for parking. Well I had to park about 3 blocks away from smooth on top of a parking garage because downtown was PACKED which is odd for a Wednesday morning. Didn't help that there was construction either. I tried to call to let them know I just parked and I was going to be there so soon. It was a little before 9. I got a call back at 9:03 when I approached the door, and the receptionist said she had to go ask the woman doing my eyebrows if she had time for me. She came back and said there was no time for me, I was being charged for half of the service because I was late, and I had to call back tomorrow to reschedule because she wasn't trained on rescheduling. So of course, I left. I got a call FIFTEEN minutes later asking me what happened and that they had someone to do my eyebrows because they didn't want to waste my time. I told the girl that I was already almost home and I wasn't coming back. I told her that I had left early to try to be there and I was only 3 minutes late. I also told her how I called but nobody answered. I told her I didn't want to reschedule because this is such an insane situation. She told me a manager may be contacting me. I completely understand having a cancellation/late policy, but this strict? DOWNTOWN????? If there was guaranteed parking I would understand the VERY strict policy but I had to park blocks away after driving around with all the construction. And I've NEVER taken up an entire appointment. I'm always done way before the appointment is over. I don't have crazy eyebrows. Takes MAYBE 5 minutes. And I'm not even exaggerati Seems too greedy for my liking. I understand I was late, but I did everything in my power to make sure I was on time. But downtown is downtown. read more

I quite enjoyed the ladies who waxed me here, there's been 2 occasions now they have expected me to make my appointment while it's pouring hard out side, I even called in advance of my appointment to see if I could reschedule but insisted I'd get charged for no show. The shop has a beautiful aesthetic that extends to their waiting room and service rooms. I had not been for a wax in a while (going on well past a year) and felt after hearing reviews both in-person from friends and the yelp comments, I was ready to take the plunge again. This was my first experience with Smooth and it was wonderful. I booked with Kaylene and she truly deserves a round of applause for creating such a comfortable and refreshing experience. Every experience I've had at Smooth has been just that... smooth! You can schedule online with your preferred waxer and it is amazingly easy. I've come on a few occasions over the years and had different ladies, but they are all 100% professional and easy to talk with to make the process go by so quickly. No awkward times here. They are careful in helping you with post-wax care and offer advice for first timers as well. Everything here is super clean and gorgeous! Their waiting room is what I'd want my dream sitting room to look like haha. They also have a retail store in the front that sells cute bath/beauty items and gifts for all occasions. The staff has always been very friendly and not pushy, though they do have a membership that gives you a discount on brazilians and facials for a full year that seems like a good deal. Parking is going to be across the street at MacArthur Center in the Dillard's garage. Just takes a quick 2 minute walk which is not bad at all. No communication, terrible customer service. Made an appointment online, then called to confirm but no one answered. The next day I called again with still no answer but I received an email about the appointment. I got stuck in traffic and called to tell them I was on my way but might be late and no one answered, so I responded to their email to say please don't cancel my appointment I would be there soon. Since it's in downtown traffic is terrible and parking is tough to find. I was only 10 minutes late and they said they couldn't let me in because they're already working on someone else and on top of that they were going to charge $15 cancellation fee even though I was right there and begged them not to cancel! If they are already working on someone else then that means someone took my spot! I told them I had called to tell them I intend on keeping my appointment, I would just be a few minutes late and they said no one monitors the phone. After I left the shop, I receive notice they cancelled on me and a bill for $15 which is outrageous for zero service and my efforts in getting there and attempts of communicating. While I understand their time is valuable, how about the customers? The first time I went I made an appointment and despite getting there 15 minutes early with all the paperwork completed, they still had me wait in the waiting room for another 15 minutes, telling me they were a little behind. They charge customers for being a few minutes late but they don't give anything back for making them wait. read more

I love smooth! My friend (who works as an esthetician) recommended this place to me and completely raved about it being her favorite wax spot. I am so glad because now I don't think anywhere else could top this place! The shop is so cute and is definitely made for a relaxing and pampering experiences. The waiting room for appointments is decorated for a queen; with big comfy chairs and soft painted walls, and even has a water dispenser available. They have an amazing spa playlist that they play in the background, including the waxing rooms! I scheduled my appointment with Cat and she is fantastic! She made me aware that they use their own blend of wax and a combination of hard and soft wax. I have very sensitive skin, and their housemade wax (specially curated for sensitive skin) was so gentle and I did not have any reactions from it. I've gone to four other waxing places in the area and have stuck with Smooth for a reason. I get my brows, underarms and Brazilians done there and have never been disappointed. Prior to going to Smooth, I had someone do a really wonky job on my eye brows. They were in pretty bad shape and Brandy fixed them right up! I typically go to Brandy because not only does she do a wonderful job, but she's very educated in different things that my skin needs after a wax. She also talks the entire time and makes you feel comfortable. I've been waxed by four other ladies at Smooth and I've never been disappointed. Do yourself a favor and book to be seen. I have been impressed with their COVID policies and feel very safe going in for services. I have very sensitive skin and sensitivity to many scents but have no issues with their waxing products. I love Smooth for my Brazilians, lashes, and facials. I like to see Mary who is the absolute best. She's kind, friendly, and has a lot of years of experience. Mary always stays up on the trends and constantly is going to new classes to learn new and innovative things. I always prefer Mary, but unfortunately she works only Mon, Tues, and Friday which is unbelievable because she is so amazing and has so much talent. If Mary is booked I would recommend Jasmine who is absolutely sweet and just as much a professional as Mary. One time I had Tiffany and the experience was not as amazing as Mary or Jasmine. I got a Brazilian here a few days ago. It was pretty quick and not any more painful than other places I've been. But I LOVED Kaylene. She was so fun to talk to and made it a really relaxing appointment. Plus, she gives great tv recommendations! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because there were a few (4-5) pieces of wax stuck to the back of one of my legs. Not a big deal, I just pulled them off myself but I did walk around town for a while with a few purple spots all over my leg lol. All in all, I'll definitely be back. read more

Walking in I fell in love! The atmosphere of this place is so calming. And it smells wonderful! Its very clean and crisp and all of the estheticians are very well kept and professional looking. You can tell this place means business. After my initial "Hello" with the girl at the front, she had me fill out a form that asked some questions about what medications I was taking. I think this is because some of the things they use may interfere with certain strong meds that people take for acne? That was my impression. Not sure if this is true. Anyway, their website is very informative on this topic if you're interested. For those of us that don't take anything severe- you're fine. I waited just a few minutes and then my estitician Stella took me back. The room was so fresh looking, like it came out of a trendy magazine! The music playing was soft and calming (I actually walked right in on the "Hello" song by Adelle. ha). Stella was great. She was talking the whole time and I wasn't nervous at all. This wasn't my first rodeo though. I was getting waxed pretty often at a place down by the ocean front so I semi knew what to expect. But Im surprised she didn't ask if this was my first time. or even talk me through it, or explain how the Smooth process works. I always like learning about new companies and what they are about and how a process that I am about to embark on, works. So I kind of just went with it. I got my brows done and had a Brazilian. The way the Brazillian went was they used some strips first, and then this stuff called a "hard wax" after. She puts the wax directly on the body, lets it harden, and then peals it off-quickly. These were short little strips that she made with the hard wax. I noticed there was no double sipping which was such a relief. I hate when I go to a place and they use the same stick with the same boiling hot wax customer after customer. Not here though. I saw she used a different stick every time. Surprisingly, only a few rips hurt. Typically, the entire 30 minutes is pure pain and torture but this wasn't bad at all! When she was finished I was expecting her to put lotion or podwer there or something. I think she just used some sort of (again I have no idea) lavender oil or something? It didn't feel like anything. I wasn't given any after care instructions verbally but when you arrive you are given a care sheet. Im hoping ill get one of these every time until im more familiar with the process. but yeah. The day after is when I usually start noticing small bumps on my eyebrows. I always break out horribly bad after getting my eyebrows done. OH! Before I forget! My eyebrows didn't look crazy red and embarrassing after we finished. Usually, after getting my brows done, I like to run home and hide my face because you can tell something OBVIOUSLY is wrong with the skin around my eyebrows. But nope! It was a TINY bit red after, and then, normal! That was awesome. Okay, so back to what I was saying. I break out really bad after getting my brows done. My estecitian told me that I should maybe try taking Benedryl or use coconut oil afterwards. But low and behold going on 5 days post wax I only have like 3 or 4 little zits. YAY! With the place being as clean as it is, a breeze to schedule (You can book online with your favorite girl), and the techs so knowledgable AND me NOT breaking out I for sure will be back! I think I found my new home every 4 weeks. I also bought some citrus gel cleanser while I was there. I wasn't forced into it at all. My esthetician and I were talking face products and she said that was what she used (of course I can't think of the brand now) and it was free of so many harsh chemicals and what not. She actually schooled me on how LUSH wasn't all its cracked up to be. Anyway! Used the cleanser for about 5 days now and I LOVE it! Love the smell, the feel, and my face is free of zits! Theres a Milk one for dry skin that I think I will get next time I go in for my wax. Really really love this place and I highly recommend it to anyone! read more

I visited Smooth to get my back waxed. My wife's friend is a regular and recommended Karie. I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled time. I completed the first time visitor form and proceeded to the waiting area. Karie was very nice and professional. She calmed my nerves since it had been some time since my previous back waxing. Now that I don't live in Virginia Beach anymore, I'm so sad I can't go to my favorite waxing studio anymore. This place not only has great professionals who clearly know what they're doing, but it's also super cute. Upon first arriving (even though the girl on the phone warned me of this) it was really hard to find. I parked at the mall near Dillards and had a short walk. I only found the building after calling the receptionist and asking for her to kind of guide me there. A little frustrating, but not a huge deal. Once I finally made it the inside of Smooth is really cute and clean. I have been to so many waxing studios that don't clean properly so it was refreshing to see a clean place. Plus the waxing rooms themselves were extremely clean and very relaxing. I felt really comfortable. I've seen a couple of different people the few times I went to Smooth, but everyone was really nice and easy to talk to. Plus, everyone was able to offer advice on any of the questions or concerns that I had. The one downside is the place is a tad pricey over where I frequent in Orlando. Nothing that necessarily breaks the bank, but I easily dropped $70-100 every time I was here. Overall, everyone at Smooth does a great job and it's worth checking out. I've had a bikini wax before, but this was my first time having a Brazilian and I won't lie to you - I was terrified. I've heard so many horror stories about getting one and how bad they hurt. There was a small mix up with appointments since there were 2 of us with the same name (same appointment time, but different services). Smooth fixed the issue right away, which was greatly appreciated. I wasn't even upset because things happen. The only reason I am mentioning it in this review is because of how the establishment handled it and I was very impressed. I ended up getting Nickie who is the owner of Smooth. I explained to her that this was my first Brazilian and that I was terrified to get one. She talked to me the entire time about anything and everything. She made me feel so comfortable and honestly that made it less painful. Instead of me focusing on hair being pulled from my body, I was focusing on the conversation. She is AMAZING and so extremely professional. I also liked that she explained the process to me before we started. She explained the areas that would hurt the least and worst. She didn't warn me before the bad ones. Instead, she waited until after the bad ones to tell me. Her exact words, "Remember the ones that I told you that would hurt the worst? Well those were it." The salon itself is very cute inside and I like that you can buy things there like bags and planned. The only thing that can be a pain in parking. Besides that, everything is great! I was looking for great waxing spot and Yelp convinced me this was it. I easily made a reservation online and made sure to get there per the site's recommendations. There's no designated parking area so either street park or park at MacArthur Center as it's right across the street. Once inside, there are a lot of cute, curated items to check out like candles, perfumes, gifts, and more. I checked in for my appointment and waited in a comfortable seating area that definitely sets the mood for a spa like treatment. My service done was quick and professional with really minimal discomfort. The wax was never too hot and they have their technique down to help minimize any immediate pain. I love the customer service! I've been getting Brazilian waxes since June 2017 and I would recommend anyone who is interested to book with Karie! I have extremely sensitive skin but the waxing beads did not cause break outs for me. You should be good as long as you exfoliate your lady bits regularly. But they will get you straight with all the details on your first visit. They also provide skin test strips. What can I say about Karie... well she is amazing!!! She tries to make your experience as comfortable as possible. Once you get to know her after a couple of visits she is funny and has a great personality. I fell in love with Smooth upon walking in the doors for my first visit in April. I knew immediately it would become my new place for waxing. I've seen 3 different people in my 4 visits. Two were great!!! I would request by name, but I'm better with faces. Today I had an appointment with Courtney. I remembered her face from my second visit. Friendly enough, but certainly made me feel rushed through my eyebrow waxing appointment both then and now. She's not detailed like the other two I've previously seen. For the price of the services, I hope Smooth can tell me who else I've seen so I can start requesting by name for future appointments.
