This is a wonderful experience. Joe (the guide/owner) is super friendly, knowledgeable and patient. You can tell he sincerely cares about the alpacas, and this meant a lot as an animal lover myself. He has the most entertaining names for all of them (Ziggy Stardust, Pablo Picasso), and he treats them like family. He made it very easy to find the ranch, which would normally be very hard to locate by meeting us at a highly visible location. The alpacas are the sweetest. You can pet them, take selfies, feed them, and water them. Joe provides a laid-back experience, allowing you to spend the time as freely as you want and to ask him as many questions as you would like. Not to mention, the land around the ranch is gorgeous. The owner introduces you to the alpacas and goats, you get to feed and pet them and learn about alpacas. RSVP is a must. It's about 1.5 hours $45. Meeting location is near the lower parking lot of the Red Rocks Amphitheater next to the public restroom by the gray building. From there, Joe (the owner) checks you jn and will escort the group (you'll drive your car) to drive to the alpacas. Tip: Try to park near the gray building, do not park in the upper parking lot entrance to the amphitheater. read more

The Smooth Alpaca Experience was a fun hour with the family. They have alpacas and goats which are very gentle while they eat small bunches of hay and pellets out your hands. The proprietor was quite nice and provided some very interesting facts and stories about the animals. Our son is almost two years old and was a bit hesitant at first but by the end was walking up to the animals and feeding them by himself. The animals all have movie star and celebrity names - very cute, and are all different colors. It was a bit hard to find and Google Maps first took us to the upper parking lot of the Red Rocks complex. But I was able to call and they provided us an address by text - the small farm is up a dirt road off the main road to RR. The whole experience was about one hour. Be prepared to get some hay on you! I recommend the experience and it is quite unique. read more

A Truly Memorable Alpaca Experience We visited Smooth Alpaca Experience as a group of six, ranging in age from 12 to mid-60s, and every one of us absolutely loved it. Joe was wonderful -- fun, informative, kind, humorous, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made the entire experience engaging for both kids and adults alike. We especially enjoyed getting to know all of the alpacas, along with the hilarious three brother goats who definitely put on a performance for us! We learned so much about alpaca behavior, personalities, eating habits, the shearing process, and the care involved in raising them. It was also fascinating to see the finished alpaca products, including socks, hats, gloves, sweaters, and blankets, and to better understand the process from animal to finished product. Overall, this was a unique, educational, and genuinely enjoyable experience that we would highly recommend. Joe made the day extra special! read more

One of my favorite places to visit! We had such an amazing experience 2 years ago we HAD to come back! The alpacas and goats are very friendly and fun! Plenty of time for feeding, petting, washing, etc. The Alpacas know some fun tricks and the goats love to play! There was a nice shaded area on the side but sunscreen is a must as it can get very hot and most the farm is in direct sun. Clear instructions were provided ahead of time. Punctuality is important! He was driving a little fast, so we were worried we didn't turn in the right spot when we couldn't see him, but we made it! We had a great time doing this as our one excursion on a very quick trip for a show at Red Rocks. Joe was very kind and took extra time with our small group booked that day since there wasn't another tour waiting. We got to feed the goats and alpacas and learn all about the park and the animals and I love that so many are named after artists and writers. Beautiful retreat away from all the hustle and bustle. I may have jokingly not jokingly said we had found a new retirement plan. It is a bit spendy for adults but it appears that's helping subsidize the free school tours and such that he does which makes it worthwhile to me, plus feeding and vet care can't be cheap. 10/10 best birthday party experience for my four year old last year. The owner is super chill, informative, and accommodating. we had the whole place to ourselves. He provided an ice table for drinks and foldable tables for food. We brought chic-a-filet for the kiddos + juice boxes, some snacks and had wine and beer for the parents and hung out picnic style on benches and blankets. highly recommend bringing a polaroid camera to send the birthday guests home with alpaca selfies. the alpacas are SO sweet, there were at least 10 probably more, so no shortage of pettiny and animal interactions. I did this with my wife as a birthday present to her- she loved it! The alpacas (and goats) were cute and gentle; I was surprised how well they did with the small children who were present. Joe was friendly and funny. We met him at the upper parking lot at Red Rocks (so easy to find) and then followed him the short distance to his ranch. The road is dirt but well maintained so fine for our old Prius. Once there, Joe gave each of us some hay and then let the animals out of the barn to come to us. He told us each of their creative names. Then we fed them grain pellets-- could even put them on our heads for them to nibble. Then there was a special snack for the goats and an opportunity to brush the goats if we wished. It was easy to get great pictures. read more

Tip: be sure to follow the directions closely in the confirmation email; use the coordinates provided. For a reasonable price you get over an hour with his lovely goats and alpacas, which includes feeding, petting. It's a lot of fun and they're gentle, relaxing creatures which enhances the experience. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty because you will get dirty! It's worth it because this is a unique, up & close experience. Joe knows a lot about these cool animals and will educate accordingly. He's also happy to answer questions (had plenty of them). To close the experience, he will happily take you to the warehouse if interested in purchasing alpaca-related items. But you won't feel hassled to make a purchase. Highly recommend the experience.
