What an absolutely wonderful experience! This alpaca farm is such a hidden gem. Joe, the owner, clearly puts his heart into caring for these animals--it shows in every detail. The alpacas are incredibly well cared for, mild-mannered, and friendly, each with their own unique and endearing personality. Joe is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely loves sharing facts and stories about the alpacas. You can tell he's passionate about what he does, and his enthusiasm makes the experience even more special. We learned so much while still having plenty of time to interact and enjoy the animals. We had a great time doing this as our one excursion on a very quick trip for a show at Red Rocks. Joe was very kind and took extra time with our small group booked that day since there wasn't another tour waiting. We got to feed the goats and alpacas and learn all about the park and the animals and I love that so many are named after artists and writers. Beautiful retreat away from all the hustle and bustle. I may have jokingly not jokingly said we had found a new retirement plan. It is a bit spendy for adults but it appears that's helping subsidize the free school tours and such that he does which makes it worthwhile to me, plus feeding and vet care can't be cheap. Super welcoming experience overall. read more

Stopped here on the way to Aspen with the Grandkids. Joe does a terrific job explaining their history and use. Also he has miniature goats. Nice small store with well mad Alpaca clothing A fun place to visit. You will need a reservation. read more

10/10 best birthday party experience for my four year old last year. The owner is super chill, informative, and accommodating. we had the whole place to ourselves. He provided an ice table for drinks and foldable tables for food. We brought chic-a-filet for the kiddos + juice boxes, some snacks and had wine and beer for the parents and hung out picnic style on benches and blankets. highly recommend bringing a polaroid camera to send the birthday guests home with alpaca selfies. the alpacas are SO sweet, there were at least 10 probably more, so no shortage of pettiny and animal interactions. We did this in March 2024, and a year later, parents and kids both still bring it up as the coolest most unique experience. read more

I did this with my wife as a birthday present to her- she loved it! The alpacas (and goats) were cute and gentle; I was surprised how well they did with the small children who were present. Joe was friendly and funny. We met him at the upper parking lot at Red Rocks (so easy to find) and then followed him the short distance to his ranch. The road is dirt but well maintained so fine for our old Prius. Once there, Joe gave each of us some hay and then let the animals out of the barn to come to us. He told us each of their creative names. Then we fed them grain pellets-- could even put them on our heads for them to nibble. Then there was a special snack for the goats and an opportunity to brush the goats if we wished. It was easy to get great pictures. read more

Joe provided a wonderful experience. Booked the experience online the day prior and met at the agreed-upon location. Tip: be sure to follow the directions closely in the confirmation email; use the coordinates provided. For a reasonable price you get over an hour with his lovely goats and alpacas, which includes feeding, petting. It's a lot of fun and they're gentle, relaxing creatures which enhances the experience. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty because you will get dirty! It's worth it because this is a unique, up & close experience. Joe knows a lot about these cool animals and will educate accordingly. He's also happy to answer questions (had plenty of them). To close the experience, he will happily take you to the warehouse if interested in purchasing alpaca-related items. But you won't feel hassled to make a purchase. Highly recommend the experience. This is not a huge mass production; it's a family owned business so in closing I'd just mention that a little patience, and planning ahead goes a long way :). Enjoy!!! read more

Went here with a family of five adults and had the best time. We were met on time at the staging location and led back to the ranch. The different elevation did make it tough at times, but what an accomplishment it felt when we finished. Also, the view along the way was great. So don't forget to stop and just look around! They also have an easy trail, which is nice, especially if you're taking small children. The visitor center was neat as well with some fun facts and history. There is also a Trading Post where you can purchase souvenirs. The shirts are crazy expensive, but if you shop in the clearance section, it is more affordable. If you're hungry, there is one restaurant there with reasonable prices, but of course more on the pricier side. However, I think it would add to the experience if you brought your own food and picnicked along the way or eat at the end. You can definitely spend a whole day here! It's great for a family outing, date, friends hang out, or even just to enjoy solo. I highly recommend visiting this place, especially if you're from out of town.

I can't tell you the last time I encountered over 100 people on a hike. But again, it makes sense considering where it is. You get some nice views of the Great Divide and even the Coors brewery. There's not much shade, so sunscreen and a hat are a must. I'd probably do this hike again in the winter to avoid the crowds. It's one of the closest hikes to Denver and for the people who've never hiked a mountain I'm sure they'd love doing this one.

Then head up the mountains to play Keystone River 2xs, then The Raven at Three Peaks, then Golden Valley Ranch before the out-of-staters fly home. Fossil Trace is always the perfect way to start and adjust to the altitude a bit and enjoy the high "fun factor" of this great Jim Engh designed course. We hope to return again next summer with a Sunday tee time around 9am to beat the heat and get an earlier start up the mountains. Kudos to Fossil Trace for their super friendly, helpful staff. I am beyond disappointed with our experience at Joe's Alpaca Experience. As a family, we were looking forward to a fun-filled day interacting with alpacas. My young son was particularly excited, even making a special alpaca-themed shirt for the occasion. However, our day turned into an abysmal mix of confusion, frustration, and heartbreak. Firstly, communication with Joe was at best erratic, and at worst non-existent. We arranged our visit well in advance, choosing a time slot suggested by Joe himself. Despite our punctuality, arriving at the agreed meeting point at 2:45 pm, we found ourselves in the middle of a crowded 311 concert parking lot. Attempts to reach Joe for better directions or clarification were futile, our calls met with radio silence. When we finally did connect with Joe at the designated time, his instructions were unclear and disorganized. He instructed us to 'follow the Audi', in a sea of vehicles with no distinctive markings or specific details. The situation was further exacerbated when I called for further instructions. Instead of assistance, we were berated and informed that 'our energy was not right' and hence we were no longer welcome. This led to an emotionally distressing situation, with my children in tears over the sudden and inexplicable cancellation. My wife tried one last-ditch attempt to salvage the situation by reaching out to Joe, only to be told to wait for a callback. That callback never came. Our family ended up waiting for an hour, stuck in a strange parking lot, with no guidance or explanation. Our anticipated alpaca encounter turned into a draining experience that tainted a significant portion of our first family vacation. This was not just a missed opportunity, but a failure to uphold basic norms of customer service and courtesy. What was supposed to be a delightful introduction to alpacas became an upsetting ordeal that I would not wish upon anyone. In summary, if you are looking for a smooth alpaca experience, Joe's Alpaca Experience is certainly not the place. The lack of professional communication and customer consideration is appalling. Went for a surprise birthday for my wife and had a blast I was a little worried because my mother-in-law is not good on her feet but they were very accommodating and let her park up next to the pen so she didn't have that far to walk. It's a little hard to find, but he's willing to meet you at red rocks and drive you in the rest of the way. All the animals had different personalities and it was really fun to watch. read more

We practically had the zoo to ourselves! Google still lists the zoo as closing at 4 p.m. every day, and I don't think the zoo advertises these evening hours nearly enough. Going later in the day made the experience so much better. First, it was much cooler and more comfortable. Second, the animals were incredibly active because the heat had died down. And third, many of them were being fed their dinner near the viewing areas, so we got to watch them up close in a way you normally wouldn't. The staff and volunteers were another highlight. Everyone we talked to was friendly, enthusiastic, and genuinely excited to answer questions and share stories about the animals. You can tell they're passionate about both the animals and the zoo's conservation efforts. I also learned how important it is to support AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited zoos. I came away really impressed by everything the Denver Zoo does for conservation, research, and animal care. If anything, I think they should do a better job of bragging about all the incredible work they're doing--it deserves more attention! One of my favorite moments was watching the tiger stroll across the overhead bridge directly above us. The elephants have a similar crossing, although they weren't using it while we were there. The habitats throughout the zoo were beautifully designed and created such an immersive, interactive experience. I can't recommend visiting during the extended summer hours enough. It felt like having a private zoo experience, and I'll absolutely be back!

We were greeted, as well, with an enjoyable stroll through local venue booths sporting everything from beeswax products to locally mixed spices to jewelry made from local stones (think petrified wood and Marble's marble, among many others). I was drawn to the designs at a T-shirt shop, and when I couldn't find my size in the design I wanted, they assured me that I could email them and they would make it for me and send it along to my home. The jewelry maker at Waystone (mywaystone.com) promised that if I could bring her a piece of petrified wood that I had discovered in my backyard, she would make it into something special to display in my home. While she accepts items through mail, since she is just down I-70 just east of Denver, I mean to bring it right to her. I was excited to visit this arts fair, and came away with some nice items, along with the cards of some artisans to whom I will reach out for some custom items. What a great way to spend a glorious fall day outside!

(I had to leave that early due to my thermals on under my clothes.) The workers were smiling and mostly friendly. We spent about 1.5 hours there and everyone had a great time. The ground is a little uneven in spots, which can be challenging to navigate while in the dark if you have mobility issues - bring folks to lean on! Overall a nice experience. Recommend!
