Rachel's got a background in both, and a nice selection of horses to work you on. In addition you can come in your off time if she has a horse available and ride on your own to practice, which is a nice feature. I appreciate Rachel's steady clear style, where she picks an area to concentrate on and that gets the full attention. She knows to trust me to continue to work on my own. I also value that I can bring my own tack if I want to go bareback saddlepad. The folks at this stable knows that I will stay longer to help clean up the arena when others don't clean up their horses' droppings, and I also take the time to make sure all tack is put where it belongs. That also means that the tacking area is cleaned of horse "emanations" which they all seem to save for when we're taking everything off for the class. Bless 'em. While I don't own or lease, any time I ride, that's my horse- and everything about it is my responsibility, from ensuring its safety to making sure I clean up behind it. There are great tack rooms, the indoor facility makes for superb events and you can ride all year. Sure you have to share Table Mountain with bikers, hikers and walkers, but this is Colorado. I recommend Rachel as a trainer, and there other specialized trainers out here as well.

Rosie has lived at Iron Gait for a few years now and is well adjusted and appears to be well cared for. We met Nick, the owner, years when he was first starting some major improvements to the ranch. He has done a really nice job of updating and upgrading the facilities. Nick and Shawna seem to be doing a good job of running the ranch and caring for 50 plus horses.

He has the most entertaining names for all of them (Ziggy Stardust, Pablo Picasso), and he treats them like family. He made it very easy to find the ranch, which would normally be very hard to locate by meeting us at a highly visible location. The alpacas are the sweetest. You can pet them, take selfies, feed them, and water them. Joe provides a laid-back experience, allowing you to spend the time as freely as you want and to ask him as many questions as you would like. Not to mention, the land around the ranch is gorgeous. If there happened to be an emergency at Mannings, rescue would have a problem getting to the patient! Upon entry, we were NOT greeted! I've been coming here since I was 8 years old and have so many wonderful memories here with my grandparents and family over the past 20 years. I even spent my Senior Prom at The Fort. I have literally told everyone about this restaurant for years, raving that it isn't just about top-notch food, but about an incredible experience that you won't forget. That's why tonight was especially disappointing. I chose The Fort to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. We came here for our anniversary last year as well, and our kids loved it so much--and my husband and I have always loved it--that we couldn't think of anywhere else we would rather spend such a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience tonight fell far short of what we have come to expect from The Fort. When we first arrived, we were greeted and checked in at the entrance. However, after walking inside to the host stand, we were essentially ignored for at least five minutes while several people stood at the desk. Eventually, someone grabbed menus, confirmed our last name, and told us to follow them. From there, the little details continued to add up. The food was not presented particularly well. My New York steak was chewy and lacked flavor, to the point that I needed to add quite a bit of salt. Our water glasses sat empty for much of the meal. The famous raisin muffins arrived completely smooshed together in the basket. We were also charged for each fountain drink refill because the restaurant now uses bottled drinks poured into glasses rather than a traditional fountain. None of these things individually would have ruined our evening. But together, they contributed to a feeling that the experience we have loved for so many years is changing. It is very noticeable that, with the change in management/ownership, more tables have been added and the restaurant now feels much more crowded and focused on maximizing the number of guests. And while I completely understand that restaurants need to be profitable, I worry that in the process, The Fort is losing the very thing that made it so special. The Fort was never just about the food. It was about the atmosphere, the service, the attention to detail, and the feeling that you were somewhere truly unique. Tonight, unfortunately, it felt much more like a high-class Chili's than the special, unforgettable experience I have spent decades telling people about. That is what makes this review so difficult to write. I genuinely love The Fort and have wanted to continue creating special memories there with my own family. I sincerely hope this was an off night and that the restaurant can find its way back to the experience that made so many of us love it in the first place.
