My wife and I found this place by accident and so glad we did. We have eaten in the restaurant but we prefer to sit at the bar and enjoy to listen to the delightful gentlemen who play piano. so friendly, the bar staff is friendly and offer great service. They make an outstanding burger at the bar. one of the best burgers i have had anywhere. I will continue to make this a place I will return to in the Northwoods. read more

I believe our waitress name was pam? She was so helpful and friendly- we had a large group and weren't able to get a reservation till late in the evening- The food was great I got the ribs and bread pudding- both I would order again! They offered three kinds of old fashions which I had never heard of before one with sprite and one with squirt? They had bread and crackers with cheese and olive tapenade as well which was great! I'll be back when I'm in town again read more

Great food and service. One of the best restaurants in the area. Highly recommend We will be back again next year. read more

We were a bit stressed about the dress code "country club casual" but Madeline tactfully explained and it was not an issue. Our server Lori was Up North welcoming; she answered all our questions and gave good suggestions. Most of us thought our food was outstanding, with generous portions yielding leftovers to enjoy the next day. Sure, it's pricey, but the ambiance, service and food were all top notch. Hope to return soon! read more

The ribeye was very thin , fatty and overpriced. The only Cabernet choice was chateau st Michelle , not a high quality wine . Our friends had prime rib which was overcooked . The service was good and friendly . But We won't be back . $160 for the two of us . I would have complained but we were with a group and didn't want to offend our hosts. read more

Had to try once. Knew by the me menu I wouldn't likely be back. There were some positives like the nuts at the bar and the cheese/olive tray. The bad was $50 for a rack of ribs and expensive drinks. The best bbq ribs are less elsewhere and these drinks were not drank in Chicago. Ribs were good....just not $50 good. Service was very good. read more

Delicious food, wonderful service and the complimentary appetizers they bring to the table are yummy. When camping in the area, we always make a stop here. It's worth it. read more

Wow! Smokey's is one of my new favorite northwoods dinner spots! The atmosphere was cozy and delightful - when we came, a pianist was playing in the bar area and every staff member we interacted with was kind and accommodating. The fireplace in the dining room was a nice touch, also. The food was incredible. There was a cheese board on our table when we entered that included several flavored cheeses and crackers, all of which was pretty good. We had a crab cake appetizer (which was eaten before I could get a photo) which was made with lump crab meat, which is IMO the best way to make crab cakes. I had the chicken and andouille sausage penne pasta, which was fabulous as well. It was very flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice. For dessert, we had a grasshopper and caramel nut cheesecake, both were also VERY good. Overall and incredible meal and we will be back soon. read more

We recently had a good experience at this restaurant in Manitowish Waters. The service was a bit stretched as there was a lack of servers; but, we understand the difficulty of getting staff members during the pandemic and also at the end of season. The place was absolutely packed. Our server, Azure, was very friendly and professional and accommodating. We had the salmon which was tasty. read more

A group of us went here for dinner last night. I'm visiting from Chicago and someone suggested we come here for a great steak meal. They were right! I was surprised we had to make reservations and there were only two left for the evening. At 4:30 and 8 so I thought this must be a good restaurant! We had Amanda as our waitress and she was the BEST! I wanted to order an old fashioned but without the pop or soda in it. We discussed options and she was patient. I'm a bartender so I know what I like! We decided on a Manhattan and it was great. Three of us had filets and my friend had the walleye. Everything was perfect! If I had a small complaint and it really is small, I'd look for different dinner rolls. The dinner was amazing and deserves better bread though I know most of us are limiting our carbs these days. If you are in the "Northwoods" make sure you have dinner here! read more

Perfect Celebration Spot! From the Shrimp Cocktail and Bacon Wrapped Scallops appetizers to the delicious Creme Brulee, Cheesecake and Bourbon Bread Pudding desserts we were nothing less than impressed with this elegant restaurant. Our hostess, Rae, was welcoming and kind and our server, Lori, was attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere was warm and inviting as well as had a family feel with the beautiful fireplace tucked away. We were also lucky enough to hear live music while we dined. The patio area and gardens were so beautiful to walk through before going inside. If you are in the North Woods, we highly recommend eating at Smokey's! Everything was thought of to make our visit memorable, we will definitely be back soon. read more

In town for a few days visiting a friend and he took me to Smokey's for dinner tonight. It was excellent. Started with the potato & cheddar soup which was very good and thick. Had the Salmon Oscar for dinner. Perfectly cooked salmon and excellent scallops, shrimp & crab cake. Very tasty bread pudding for dessert. Atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall great experience read more

We went to Smokey's to celebrate a special occasion. We all got salad or soup with our entrees of chicken milanese, Tuscan chicken, blackened Walleye, and fettuccine d'la mare. Two of the meals came with the loaded mashed potatoes and they were divine. Everyone LOVED their meals. The prices are a bit high but the portions make up for that. There were plenty of leftovers. The relish tray and our crab cake appetizer (a little fishy) were good but not as delicious as the entrees. The restaurant was packed and our server seemed overworked but she was incredibly nice and attentive despite her workload. She brought us a complimentary dessert to celebrate our special day. It was a pavlova with ice cream and berry reduction sauce that was dynamite! Highly recommend going to Smokey's but definitely need a reservation and some patience for the long wait. read more

The food and drinks here are always great! They have fast and friendly service. If you're looking for a nice supper club would recommend!

Great north woods supper club! It was easy to make reservations, when we arrived they seated us promptly. The relish tray was already waiting for us! My husband enjoyed his old fashioned, did not like his Manhattan. They have a lengthy wine menu. He loved the walleye and I really enjoyed my chicken pasta. Kind of tasted like fajitas! Had enough pasta for the next day too :) our waitress, Becky was very sweet and helpful in navigating the menu for the first time. They don't have vegetarian options but otherwise the menu is large and diverse. We will be back! read more

Ok, we came back for the prime rib, enjoyed previously here. Seated nicely, then old Fashions (Right?) served after a small delay, ok so far. Old fashioned went down fast, why? Well, there was about 3 oz of fluid surrounding ice cubes. I could not taste alcohol. Oh well. Nice little tray of crackers, olive tapenade, and spread cheese was good, though microscopic. Isn't this Wisconsin? Time to order! What? Prime rib has run out! Turns out that one can "reserve" prime rib when making a reservation. I guess this explains why we saw the entree served after we got our food. Rats! Ok, the ribeye is amazing our server says. We already know the salmon is fishy, (farm-raised) so we avoid that. Thus, we order ribeye! Time for a delicious supper club steak Up North! Rats again! The "steak" arrives but it is about a quarter inch thick. Ok, take a bite. What, a mouthful of grizzle? Discretely remove and dispose. Repeat, same thing! Geez. Now we carve out a piece directly from the center of the steak. Chew, chew, chew, chew.... Big drink of water. You get the picture. Forget the rest of this fibrous tissue. Now we are very unhappy since this was a $47 entree. Fine, I will just eat the softball-sized serving of nice garlic mashed potatoes. What now? No garlic flavor and hard. Are you kidding me? I know I should say something and send food back, but this is always a bummer as everyone finishes when one gets round two. Also, it is a royal buzz-kill for the ambience. Smokey's, come on. Yes beef prices are high but don't serve grizzle. Make an old fashioned that has something other than ice cubes. Mashed potatoes were probably made well in advance and hardened into soft concrete. Goodness gracious guys! read more

My husband and I went there for our 50th wedding anniversary. First enjoyed a drink in the bar. For dinner we were seated by the fireplace. The dining room was very warm and cozy on a miserable rainy night. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely cheese spread and crackers appetizer. We ordered the prime rib. Came exactly as we ordered. Our waitress was excellent, as was the young man who kept our water glasses full. All a really class act. Would highly recommend! The entire experience was excellent! read more

Honestly expected more than we got. From start to finish. We will not return, nor recommend to anyone. Will recommend other supper clubs such as Norwood or Little Bohemia as those just define north woods dinning. This place felt like a micro-country club with light wood accents and faded gold-plated plumbing. The service was subpar, ambiance was loud, entitled guests complaining that the A/C was too cold, or that their cocktails were not made correctly. There is a dress code but there definitely was a select group who you could tell thought they were above any rules. The vibe was "for the entitled". Giving this two stars at least because the service team was giving it their all. When it came to the entrees, from start to finish, we've just had better. read more

Let me start by saying I am going to give this spot another chance, but my first trip was pretty disappointing. No social distancing but masks are optional within the restaurant. When we walked in the bartender immediately told us we didn't have to wear a mask. So.. enter at your own risk. Now, the food: my girlfriend ordered the pork chop that was on special. It was perfectly prepared but had zero Smokey flavor. The place is called Smokey's right?? I ordered the veal Marsala. The veal was pounded so flat, that you could barely find it on the plate, buried by all the "Marsala" sauce, which tasted more like catchup than Marsala. I will say that the staff was very attentive and the service was great. Nice ambiance inside. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. I would give this a second try and stick with something that lands more within their "wheelhouse", like a steak or ribs. read more

This is a very good restaurant, but be careful to not reserve a late time. When we went, we were one of last tables remaining. The waitresses were so anxious to get home that they rushed us- literally swooping in to remove plates as the diner was about to place the last forkful into their mouth. read more

The service staff is very friendly and accommodating. Wonderful food selection. Delicious dinner!

Superb service and excellent food, but subpar atmosphere (noise level). We are from a major metropolitan city (not Chicago), so are accustomed to a variety of restaurants and fine dining. We weren't expecting a very noisy dining crowd at 8:30 pm on a Friday...so loud we couldn't hear our server or each other. If we are paying $100 for a meal for 2 (without apps or deserts), I would hope for a calmer environment. I'll gladly spend $40 at a bar and get less noise. read more

Amazing place!! Wonderful ambiance, great food and excellent service. We really enjoyed dinner with family. Piano music was a terrific touch. read more

We visited Smokey's this weekend and wow was that a treat. I grew up in Wisconsin but now live in the Chicago suburbs. I have learned that dining standards are not necessarily the same in both places and mentally lower my culinary expectations when we cross through the cheddar curtain. Smokey's however exceeded all expectations! We settled in at the bar while listening to the live piano, it was a very nice touch. I was so excited to order a brandy old fashioned and it was crafted to perfection. We were then seated and our server, Lori, was such a delight. She explained the menu eloquently and really rounded out our wonderful experience. The cheese plate waiting at our table is not something I've ever seen a restaurant do but was very welcomed after a 5 hour drive. The menu was extensive but not excessively so. We tried the clam chowder and bourbon steak. They were both excellent. The place is homey yet elegant which for me is the perfect combination. We have refined tastebuds but don't enjoy a snooty environment. The prices were fair but probably higher than most restaurants in the area. Expect to spend $25-50 for an entree. Overall, we had such a lovely evening at Smokey's and I would absolutely go out of my way to enjoy a meal here again. read more

Odd experience here! My husband and I made a Saturday night reservation to celebrate our anniversary after reading the glowing reviews online. As soon as we walked in, I felt out of place: We were greeted by a (rather hilarious) "appropriate attire required" sign a few feet away from a guy wearing full camouflage at the bar, but sure, no baseball caps allowed. See also: Carpeted floors, piano player. It was like walking into a medium- to high-end department store in its heyday. The vibe was stuffier than I expected in the northwoods, even from a self-proclaimed fine dining establishment. One upside: We enjoyed excellent brandy Old Fashioneds at the bar. Then, dinner. We'd read the rave reviews about the legendary cheese spread. And I mean........ look. There was nothing wrong with this cheese spread, per se. It included a few grocery store cubes of colby jack and swiss along with a scoop of Merkts cheese spread (port wine flavor!). Nothing special, right? Or maybe I've lived in Wisconsin for too long and my cheese standards are unfair. The service was the strangest part of the evening. In a word, it was ice cold. Our basic questions about the menu--"what do you recommend between the salmon and the walleye?"--were met with visible annoyance. When we declined coffee, the server snatched the dessert menus off the table before we had a chance to look at them: "So I assume that means you won't be wanting dessert?" Er, well, I guess you made the choice for us! Perhaps it's because my husband and I are not this restaurant's target demographic--baby boomers and beyond--but we did not feel welcome here. I get that the place is trying to stand out from the region's kitschy, casual bars and restaurants, but it feels like they've done so at the expense of warmth and friendliness. Or maybe we just caught the wrong server on the wrong night. Oh, and the food was fine. Pretty good, even. But overshadowed by the rest of our utterly weird experience. read more

Upon entering the outside was very clean and neat. There is a sign on the door stating proper attire required and no hats. I think that's good info to have before going. This is definitely an upscale restaurant, quiet, small with white table cloths and set with china. There was a relish tray on the table with a garlic cheese, a cheddar spread, and an olive tamponade. All were very tasty. Not enough supper clubs serve them anymore and they should. The servers were all neatly dressed, attentive, and very professional. Ample entree options. I ordered the Chicken Milanese which came with 2 pieces of hot juicy chicken with a lightly breaded crunchy crust. My side was creamed spinach and a salad which was larger than most. My friend had the maple glazed salmon that was lightly browned as well as baked French onion soup and a baked potato. A basket of rolls with soft butter was provided. Both of us thought the food was high quality, cooked to perfection and we rolled out stuffed. The menu is pricey but well worth it. It's a 45 minute drive for me but it was so good and I will be back. read more

We've been coming to Smokey's for a few years, usually about once per season. This year they have really brought their cuisine and service to a new level. The ambience is up scale cozy, with comfortably arranged seating fit for couples or families. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Everyone enjoyed the complementary signature olive tapenade and select cheeses with toasted crust bread. I usually stay away from "specials", but I was blown away by the complex smokey flavor of a perfectly crafted tenderloin wrapped in bacon with a wild mushroom sauce. The green beans were fresh and perfectly finished and the garlic potatoes were a wonderful complement to the beef. The atmosphere was quiet and congenial and the staff were fully engaged in our dining experience. Best meal I've had in the North Woods in several years! read more

Charming little restaurant in the northwoods that provides an elevated dining experience, with small town personality. Service was wonderful--from the front desk, to the bar, to our table--everyone was friendly and helpful. Our table ordered a number of salads, the bruschetta, the penne pasta (it was HUGE), the pork chop, the salmon, the local catch, and the butternut squash ravioli. Everyone seemed happy with their respective plates, except for the ravioli. While the flavor was decent, it was incredibly dry. The brown butter sauce was NOT brown. It was merely clarified butter. The waitress thoroughly apologized and brought us a creme brûlée, which was delicious. Overall, I was very pleased and would certainly return again! read more

Delightful dinner with the best smoked ribs ever. The appetizer tray was beautifully presented (complimentary) and the side of broccoli with greyure cheese sauce was divine. The waitress was just lovely and very accommodating. A couple of issues during this pandemic time were the lack of 6 ft spacing between tables and no mask wearing on staff or other customers. This is science folks not politics. Protect each other and customers. read more

This is our 4th time eating at Smokey's and it was the most disappointing. The atmosphere is delightful and the drinks are priced as you'd expect at a "high end" restaurant in the north woods. However, the food was very disappointing. I ordered the walleye and it was a thin, unflavored filet. The wild rice was awful. My wife had the prime rib special and we question whether it was prime rib or not. It was tough, cold and was absolutely a reheated piece of meat. The sides of spinach, mushrooms/onions were delicious tho. When asked by the waitress how dinner was, we expressed our concerns and she kindly made it right; she removed my wife's dinner off our bill. I know Smokey's food is better, but it didn't impress this time. Again, the service and staff weren't the issue at all. read more

This is a well kept, very clean, high end restaurant with a slightly snooty atmosphere with a piano player at the bar. Reservations seem to be a requirement, but it looked like there may be room for walk-ins. "Proper attire is required" which basically means no hats because there were many different types of dress seen on the clientele. Tom the bartender couldn't crack a smile if someone tickled him. Lighten up dude! Or find a different job out of the service industry. We were a party of four and service was great. Our server was friendly and willing to work with our fun personalities, unlike bartender Tom. When you are seated there is a tray of cheeses and crackers waiting for you. Delicious spreads. Two ordered the bourbon steaks, one chicken milanese and one petite filet. It appears you should stick with their specials. Everyone was happy with their meal except the petite filet. It was overcooked and lacked any flavor. It was not at all a $38 steak. read more
