Their selection is outstanding: a well-balanced mix of familiar, high-quality domestic wines (think Cakebread, Caymus, Ken Wright), rare gems you'll almost never spot on a by-the-glass list (like an incredible Royal Tokaji Furmint from Hungary), and top-tier premium vintages (including Kathryn Hall and Will Harlan). The best part? Almost every wine--except the ultra-premier vintages--is available in 2 oz pours, making it easy to explore without committing to a full glass. I have no idea how they keep so many bottles perfectly fresh (magic? generous amounts of Argon?), but it works. The décor nails the theme, the staff are warm and knowledgeable, and the small plates are thoughtfully chosen to complement the wines. Mary Kate's is probably the best wine bar I've ever been in. Why is it in tiny Eagle River WI? No clue but I'm grateful to the person who recommended it. The inside is stylist, with nods to wine everywhere - barrel staves on the ceiling, wine crate wall etc. I was absolutely floored by their list - easily 100+ options by the glass of all kinds, at all prices. Whatever you like, they'll have it along with many other things worth trying. If you're unsure the knowledgeable staff will help, or they can construct you a flight. Glasses come in 2oz tastes, 6oz pours or 9oz glasses. You can even get growlers of their wine on tap! With wine, you want snacks - this is limited to some nicely constructed charcuterie boards and other snacks. Do they serve beer? No idea! I love this place! read more

Amazing that such a wonderful place exists so far from a city. Selection is incredible and it's not just for wine snobs. There is something there for everybody and with 3 different size pours you can taste as few or as many as you would like. Staff is knowledable, friendly and is great and helping people of all tastes. We did not try the food, but I can't imagine that it would be nothing but great. Although it appears to be small plates/charcuterie. Ambience was very warm and inviting. In mid-August, my wife and I spent the week in the Boulder Junction/Eagle River area biking, hiking, and enjoying the local food and libation places. Near the end of our stay, my wife discovered a wine bar located in Eagle River. It was called Mary Kate's Wine Bar. The wine bar is owned and run by a husband/wife team. The place is really nice and relaxing inside. We sat by the bar and tried several wines along with a cheese plate. It was interesting that many of the wines for the flights or glasses come from tanks and a gun dispenser. However, the wine itself was great. I have seen other wine bars use wine dispensers, but those were directly from a bottle. They also sell a large selection of wine by the bottle and the owners were both pretty knowledgeable as well as friendly. We tend to visit the North Woods area once a year and will certainly be back at Mary Kate's. read more

What a great addition to the Eagle River list of "must do's". This is a perfect venue for chatting and reconnecting - we stopped in on a rainy day and tried flights of reds and whites. Adorable little spot that allows you to build your own flight of fantastic wines! We enjoyed several high end wines from Belle Glos Pinot Noir to BV Georges de Latour. A great spot to try a wine without committing to a full bottle. We definitely will be back when we are back in town! read more

While visiting the area from Chicago, this was such a delightful find in downtown Eagle River! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming as well as the staff. The decor is well thought out with barrel staves on the entrance of the ceiling that transition to tongue and grove. The walls are covered in wooden wine box ends on the walls. However, you are not overwhelmed by the wood finishes, as in some up north places, as they've used natural stone and other modern touches to make it visually interesting and cozy. We visited on a Wednesday and the place was hoping, we'd love to see it in the winter. Despite the business, the service staff was on their game and did a wonderful job. They helped us navigate the massive wine list with their knowledge of what was available. The cheese/meat platter was expertly put together and served at the proper temperature. I am so happy we stumbled upon this gem. It is beautifully decorated, and the service was impeccable. Despite the pandemic, we felt completely safe as there was social distancing, and strict mask enforcement while entering the establishment. I have never in my 62 years on this earth felt I needed to review a place, but they pushed all the right buttons. We were given a $100 gift card from there and took the people who gave us the card to Kate's to use. We were the first people there that day. We waited outside for it to open. Once we got in and sat down, we got the menu's. We ordered 4 glasses of wine, two were from their tappers (House wine) and I asked the bartender if he had something a little better than the standard fare. As soon as we were delivered our wine, we spilled one of the glasses of wine (the tapper wine) which the bartender helped us clean up. They did nothing to replace the glass. In fact is, we waited forever for them to come back so we could order another. As we got our replacement glass, we ordered a cheese plate. We got it and ate and drank our wine. It became time to leave, so we asked for the bill. That took forever but we finally got it. There were three tables filled in the place. Inexcusable. When we got the bill I realized that the bartender gave me a $32.00 glass of wine. I guess that was the only thing they had that was better than their standard fare. As it was the bill was more than the $100 gift card and we had to add to it. Not a friendly place. I don't mind paying high prices, but you ought to get good service for the money. We got neither, good food or service. Very disappointing. We won't be back! read more
