This small hole in the wall has some great meats! The staff were friendly and the environment was comfortable.

If you're looking for some New England food mixed with Caribbean flavors, then this is the perfect…read moreplace. Island Take Out is an unassuming place tucked behind a gas station in Bar Harbor. As the name implies, it's geared mostly for food to-go, but they do have some covered picnic tables. We sat there, and they even brought the food out to us with utensils. The hospitality here was so friendly. The staff was very nice, the service was fairly quick, and the food came out fast. They have a decent sized menu, and I was surprised to see offerings like rum cake. We ended up ordering the lobster mac and cheese and the jerk chicken. I was very happy with the portion size, they definitely did not skimp on the amount of lobster they put on the mac and cheese, and the jerk chicken was also plenty of food. While it's certainly not cheap, I'd say the cost is competitive for what I'd say is a pricier town. The food was tasty (it had a lot of taste), but I will say that it did not taste like authentic Caribbean food to me. It was more like American BBQ style. That being said, I'd recommend giving this hidden gem a consideration if you're in the area.

The flavor was great with a tad bit of spice. The garlic bread was yummy dipped into the sauce and it was a good size helping. Definitely a place to check out! The staff was kind and prompt

Stopped by The Grind House on my way through from Bar Harbor to Boston Logan International…read more I was excited to see an impossible breakfast sandwich on the menu as well as a peanut butter mocha. Seriously, two of my favorite things to see on a coffee house menu. That said the execution was a bit off for me. The Impossible breakfast sandwich was served on an insubstantial bun (the type that is more air than anything) and was overall pretty basic. Their signature sauce mentioned in several dishes, seems to be thousand island or maybe tartar sauce? Either way, it wasn't my favorite. The peanut butter mocha was also a bit of a miss for me. I wasn't a fan of either their chocolate or their espresso (or the peanut butter flavor they used, for that matter). The shop itself is quirky and comfortable. We were able to get a spot by the windows, which was nice and the service was lovely. It would definitely be a good and comfortable spot for working and it could be that had I ordered differently, it may have been more my cup of tea (or coffee, as they case may be). But for what I ordered, it was a bit of a swing and a miss.

I chose a egg and cheese on a croissant bun and a caramel turtle latte. I came here because it had been highly recommended, but I have to say, I expected more, but depends on what you like, right?? Plenty of seating, centrally located in the city, easy parking, and plenty of coffee concoctions to try out. My coffee was missing the whipped cream, but oh well. The froth for the latte was odd, it deflated super quickly, not sure what happened there. And the sweetness was sweet, but it was missing that caramel turtle flavor I thought I was going to get. For me, this was meh. I expected something more decadent. My egg sandwich was good. Basic. Not a real croissant either. It was a croissant bun of some sort. It seemed, well, basic, or economical. But it was filling and the egg was good. I also have to say that when I departed, I smelled like a convenience store that sells those hotdogs on rollers... I smelled all day, I had to wash my hair to get the smell out. I also have to mention the heavy music that was playing. It was obscene and it was loud. So loud it made it challenging to order and I did eat my meal quickly and leave. It was a Tuesday morning around 9 am. But hey I am getting older so this may not have been a good choice for me.

Especially enjoy their filet, which is often my go to and has never disappointed. Service is always good and ambience is what you'd expect. We arrived at a busy time on a Saturday night and were pleased that they were able to fit us in…read morewithin ten minutes- which was a good thing because the two waiting areas were so hot we were in danger of becoming a steak ourselves. We had three kids in tow. Peanuts, though advertised, were not on the table but an empty, unclean bucket was. We asked for some and the friendly hostess hooked us up with two bags worth. We had no issue with the atmosphere, despite it being packed, and despite proximity to the bar and about six televisions playing four different things people were being courteous and quiet. Families were well-represented, as were two-person tables. The server was prompt and attentive and returned about as often as was necessary. As for food... I would avoid the three-choice appetizer: fried cuke rounds, barbecued pork, mozzarella sticks. Only the cukes were...delicious. Barbecue sauce was sickeningly sweet and overwhelming. I ordered plain water and drank three glasses of it during the course of the meal because everything was salty. Four of us had steaks which were done as ordered but lacked seasoning and sauce. On the dry side but not bad. Baked potato was massive and salty. The kabob was just right but the bed of rice was, you guessed it, over-seasoned and over-salted. And such small portions. Caesar salads lacked taste, mostly because grated cheese was almost nonexistent. Very bland dressing. I think we all agreed the exceptionally large fries were soggy. I don't think either the prices or the food quality were draw enough to want to go back and besides this, I'm probably right at my sodium allowance for the month, after that meal. Next time in Bangor we'll maybe try the Korean steakhouse.
