While visiting my family in Maine. I stopped in and got some food from Taste Jamaica. As a Jamaican myself I can say this food is Authentic! I got the jerk chicken with rice and peas and steamed cabbage. Overall the food was delicious and flavorful and reminded me of home. The service was good and effective. The ambiance is that of a take out spot and they had Jamaican snacks and merch. My only complaint would be it was a bit pricey. In Florida I could get a similar plate for less. Overall great food, if you are in the area you should check them out. read more

I love Jamaican food and if you do too: You need to check this place out! This place is tiny on the inside with minimal seating, perfect for carry out. Small selection of other Jamaican treats featured inside as well. The girl at the front was helpful and decently friendly to my tired family after a long day of traveling. The food was obviously the star of this place and the reason it deserves ! This cuisine is especially refreshing in an area with mostly lobster shacks lol. My whole family devoured our meals read more

We found this place on Yelp, as we usually do when traveling and it did not disappoint. I had oxtails and beef patties with a side of their housemade hot sauce and it was delicious. They have a covered area for you to sit outside with music and a tv for viewing. The staff was friendly and helpful, but most importantly, the food was incredible and we will be back for sure! The oxtails were large and tender, the peas and rice were flavorful and the cabbage salad was fresh. This is a must try in Ellsworth, ME. read more

Service was good and the operator has done the best that they can with ambiance. The food was not great and overpriced for what was offerred. read more

Rude attitude on top of being very over-priced for very mediocre food. I absolutely love Jamaican food but this was just like some tourist trap idea of what Jamaican food is, and not the real deal! Weak. Not paying THAT much for not-so-great food with a tude! read more

This place is a hidden gem of Ellsworth. The food is fantastic! We had a big group so we ordered ribs, plantains, jerk chicken, fish, and pulled pork. It's hard to pick a favorite because everything was excellent. I highly recommend it. Sit out back under the tent and enjoy the reggae music. read more

Had the jerky chicken platter. The chicken breast was flavorful, a little spicy and moist! It came with some cabbage veggies and rice. I really likes the meal. It does come with a sauce I would have rather have on the side than on top of everything. Beware of that. Service was really nice too! read more

Prior to out trip, I've been doing a much needed research just in case we need a break from eating lobsters. Based on reviews, I saved this restaurant on our must-go-to list. It didn't disappoint. Food was delicious! We had the jerked chicken, perfectly seasoned and spicy. The jerked ribs was just as good with fall off the bone meat.. but the highlight... are the super tender and flavorful oxtails.. we ordered 3. Omg!!! I love Jamaican food and this is definitely one of the best, reasonably priced and big portions. I'll be dreaming about this place when I get home. But I guarantee you, I'll be back next time I'm in bar harbor. 5 stars! read more

Very tasty food!! Really better than expected, even after reading the Rave reviews. Wife got the falling-off-the-bone ribs. I got the delicious pork. Great sauce on both. A bit too much rice, but the cooked vegetables were yummy. Next time, we'll ask for extra sauce so we can smother the rice. Highly recommend! read more

Get the Ox Tail!! The Ox Tail was a clear winner for the whole family. It was tender, with a savory and flavorful sauce. I had the Jerk Ribs which kind of tasted like BBQ ribs with a slight kick. It was pretty good! All the entrees were served with plain rice and vegetables. They had other options for sides too (rice & beans, fried plantains) We also had some Jamaican drinks, e.g. fruit punch (blend of several fruits), pineapple and grapefruit soda. These were all good but the fruit punch was my favorite. Very friendly staff. The vibe of this place is great! We took the outdoor seats because it was such a great weather. They had colorful umbrellas and music jamming in the background. read more

During our travels to Ellsworth we have had some great dining experiences. This one was just another in a series of great places and outstanding is the simplest way to describe it. The food is authentic and very flavorful. We had the jerk chicken and oxtail and were extremely happy with our selection. The staff was super friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself is very small but has an authentic feel to it. All of these things make for a great Jamaican meal. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed! read more

All the food from here is incredible -- bursting with flavor. I got the oxtail stew, which was prepared in a thick, brown gravy. The oxtail was tremendously tender. It came with a boat load of delicious rice that has small pieces of red beans mixed in. There was also a side of greens, namely cabbage, which offset the hearty gravy and meat. The combination was perfect. My partner got the jerk pork, which was equally as delicious as my oxtail. I also ordered plantains. They offer three different types of aioli sauce with them. I opted for the pineapple. The plantains with the pineapple were the best I've ever had! The aioli was light, subtly sweet, and made to perfection. I can't wait to go back! read more

Stopped here for lunch. Had the curry chicken. It was good, but would have been better with dark meat which I was expecting. It was a bit dry, was wishing I had more sauce with it. But the rice and vegetables and sauce were good , tasty. My sister enjoyed her jerk chicken. We sat outside, was very pleasant with trees around, nice breeze and shade. The staff was very nice. read more

The owner/chef and staff are so friendly and chatty! We had a great time even though we just stopped by to pick up takeout. The food is tasty and a welcome change from most other things we've had in the area while visiting Acadia National Park. It also seems incredibly popular around here -- so many people were in and out while we were waiting for our dishes! We got the pan-seared haddock, curried goat, and fish fritters. We were hoping to try their oxtail, but they sold out since they're so popular! Loved the haddock with the chef's homemade hot sauce -- it is HOT! read more

I love this place. The flavors in the Yah Mon sandwich are incredible, with the sweet pineapple sauce complimenting the jerk seasoning perfectly on the tender chicken. But you can't go wrong with any dish here. Everything is so tender, fresh and flavorful. Fish fritters are out of this world. The staff is always so friendly and pleasant. Please never leave Ellsworth! read more

This place is a hidden gem. So here I am, driving to Acadia National Park in the middle of rural Maine when I see a Jamaican flag, which immediately catches my attention (because I am Jamaican and we can spot our flag out of nowhere). My family so curious had to stop. Now we were skeptical. Jamaicans usually are of their own. After going in, the place was a shot of home. Atmosphere was clean, chill and reminded me of the country back home. But how was the food? We ordered the Jerk chicken (which is the true test of any Jamaican restaurant abroad) with rice and peas. We also had some curry chicken. I 100% would recommend this place. My wife and I joked about how we had to come all the way from DC (which has many Jamaican restaurants) to find truly authentic jamaican food. But it doesn't stop there. We tried a Jamaican dessert/pastry called Toto. You remember that last part in Ratatouille when the food critic had a flashback to his childhood? That's exactly what happened to me. Take it from a Jamaican family- this place in the middle of story book Maine is the real deal! Atmosphere: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Chef/Owner: 5/5 read more

Great portions small local feels like someone's house kitchen. Really good overall.

What a unexpected surprise, never though I would find a Jamaican north of New York. Food is authentic with reasonable pricing. Make sure you ask for it spicy for the authentic flavor. The owner Shea, was a pleasure to meet, was well spoken and enthusiastic about the food and his restaurant. Interior was well built, chairs and tables were fine dining worthy, and most importantly Bob Marley was playing in the back round.;) Check it out! read more

We had a very nice experience at Taste Jamaica. The food was flavorful, a balance of savory stewed meat, perfectly cooked and mixed rice and beans and a salad that was tossed with a delicate sauce. The menu was uncomplicated, just enough. In time we're sure there will be additional delicacies. The service was pleasant, humble, caring. We saw quite a few take out orders being picked up. The cook came out to see how we liked the food. The dining room was clean, adequate, pleasant. The whole experience was peaceful and uplifting. There was a nice area outside to eat with sturdy tables adorned above with colorful stylish umbrellas. I would recommend this restaurant highly. read more

Stopped here for lunch today and had a great meal!! Have been wanting to stop for a while and now kicking myself for waiting so long. I had the fish which was seasoned perfectly served with rice and beans and curried vegetables. My husband had the fish tacos which were a special for the day so they may not always have this. It had an awesome mango salsa on it and was the perfect accompaniment for the taco. Absolutely will go there again. read more
