Pinto beans were good but they were just pinto beans. The mac and cheese is that I expect from a bbq place. The sausage was cut up to look like it was allot of sausage but looked like just half a link. And about six pieces of small brisket. I was disappointed in the cost to quality ratio. Their chocolate pudding thing that they had was freaking awesome. I love that their barbecue sandwich that we got was a small one. I don't know. It tasted kind of slimy and it just wasn't tasty. The pinto beans was good, but I mean how hard is it to cook pinto beans, but they weren't bad. I forget what else we got but the small barbecue sandwich no, I wouldn't buy it again. We spent $60 for two chopped bakers 1/4 pound of brisket that was supposed to be lean cut. It wasn't. It was also dry. Our potatoes were sad. No green onion or bacon. Just a sad scoop of meat. We asked for them fully loaded. The tea was empty. I had to ask the dude in the back 3 times for cup lids. The tables were dirty. The sauce has changed a lot. It's very runny and taste different. This place deserves the deets! Wife and I got a 3 meat plate each and tried 6 meats. 1. Quarter Chicken - This smoked bird was cooked to absolute perfection! Pork loin - Seasoned extremely well with just a slight bite. The meat was moist with a nice crust. 8.3/10 3. Turkey - Yum! Packed with flavor and also cooked extremely well. 8.7/10 4. Chopped brisket - So good! Juicy, flavor packed, some crunch from the edges before the chop. It's got some sort of sauce already on it and doesn't need anything more. But I'll get to the actual bbq sauce later. 9.1/10 5. Ribs - The crust on these was to die for! Flavor was fantastic. Smokey, peppery and delicious. They were slightly dry but I mean slightly. 8.6/10 6. Sausage - The sausage was ok. Nothing special, a little bland, needed the sauce to pull it back into the loop. 6.8/10 Now for the sides. I had pinto beans and man alive, these were perfect. Places that don't season their beans, take a lesson from Mo! 9.4/10 Also had the Mac and cheese. Now look, this isn't on them. I've discovered I just don't like bbq places Mac and cheese. But my wife loves it so I asked her to rate it. She said it's really good and gave an 8. (She's not quite as descriptive lol). Last but not least, the potato salad. I also am not a fan of potato salad in general but THIS isn't your normal potato salad. It's light, creamy, salty with a bit of sweet on the backside. I gotta give it 9.1/10 Finally their sauce! Most of the food doesn't even need the sauce but if you use it, you'll love it. It's rich and spicy. Not too spicy though. It's got a little bit of a Rudy's vide to it. I tried a little on everything and, while it was delicious, bbq to me is judged on its stand alone ability. This place passes on every front! At 11:45ish I placed an order to be delivered between 6 and 6:30. The driver "confirmed it being handed to me" and it was not. It was left at my door with no knock or ringing of doorbell. When I did get the order from the porch and brought it in the house it was not my order. I phoned Smokey MO's and the lady apologized and said my order was still there and it would be delivered soon. I phoned about 45 minutes later to see when it would be delivered and she told me it couldn't be delivered because no one has come to pick it up. She asked how she could make it up to me and I told her to refund my card for the total that I paid. She called back and said she had refunded my card and it would take 2 to 3 days to get it back. I am not sure what happened with Lisa since it was her order that was delivered to me. I have ordered from Smokey Mo's for years and have never had this problem with Smokey Mo's before. I used to love this place, but am extremely disappointed with my latest visit. Half the menu is non-existent. The other half is not all that good. The have a new manager and staff who ran around like blind chickens, stepping on each other, dropping food and generally unorganized. Two of the customers ahead of me had incorrect orders. The temps outside tonight were already in the 50's and the AC was on in the dining area. Found a thermometer on the wall and it read 65. Brrrrrrr. My wife and I started going to Smokey Mo's when we lived in Round Rock. When we moved to Conroe, we switched to this one. We have been here 2 years, and watched things slowly go down. It sounds like an investment company from CA bought the business. They promptly took out the fryers, no more fired okra, french fries, etc. Like others have said the menu just changed, the employees don't look happy. Then the portion sizes started to shrink. My wife used to love the loaded potato with chopped beef, but the potato's are smaller and now there is so little meat placed on it, she isn't interested in going back. It feels like they are trying to Californicate TX BBQ. By the looks of other reviews, other's feel the same way. I just saw in the news, they have hired a new group of managers to run the brand and turn things around. I hope they do that. read more

Great BBQ and atmosphere! The service was fantastic too! I had a great experience here from the ordering to the food and the amazing BBQ Sauce!! I ordered the Thursday special which was a backed potato with melted cheddar cheese, green onions and plenty of pulled pork smothered in BBQ. This had to have been the best loaded potato I have ever had, it was just downright delicious. I don't come to Conroe often but I know next time I am in town I will easily be stopping here for lunch or dinner. They have great food and the desserts looked so tempting!! And my friend ordered the chopped beef sand which with fries and a Sierra Mist . The fries were super fresh and sooo good. The chopped beef was good and a nice size for the price. My potatoe was in a small container but OMG.. when I opened it it was full of potatoe .. meat cheese butter all the things that make up a Texas sized spud. We both loved the BBQ Sauce however .. the meat was good but not great. It didn't taste smoked or you couldn't take the "bbq" you just taste'd the sauce there was no "fire" or smoked taste. The Meats here are really good. I love the Turkey and the Jalapeño sausage. The Turkey is moist and tender and smoky. The Jalapeño sausage is also very good, it is lean , so it's a bit dry , but that is my preference. Their brisket is really good in my opinion, but so many people are brisket snobs, I don't want to say too much about that. I'm not a BBQ guy who inspects smoke rings and all that. During these difficult times we are living in, I have had some of my orders with incorrect items. So I decided to speak to the Manager. I spoke with Jose Gutierrez. I just had to give this guy credit for an outstanding customer service. He was SO polite...listened to everything I had to say, and validating my issues. I cannot give him enough accolades!! Food is good but some apathetic and/or some ill informed employees. Just moved here ask if their food has MSG. The lady says, "Yes". I reconfirm as she seemed to know very quickly. She reaffirmed after a further inquiries from me. So I go out to my car and call an Austin store. They say no we haven't used MSG in 15 years. I call the corporate store and they confirm, "No MSG". So go back in. Sign says they don't serve breakfast after 10 am. It's 10:30. So I order a 3 meat lunch plate. "Oh we're still serving breakfast. I ask about the sign. Terrible customer service. Flow was an illiterate & incompetent manager. They didn't explain that the kids meal doesn't come with buns. I specifically asked for a sandwich. When i got the meal home and realized there was no sandwich I called back and spoke with Flo. Flo told me to return to the store where they would remake my sandwich. I said ok great. When I arrived I was told I was going to be charged an extra $4 dollars because I previously had been charged for a kids meal. I explained that I specifically asked for a sandwich.
