IMG_0158.HEIC Now this is what I call a loaded potato. Huge potato covered in pork, bacon, and drenched in queso. Yum!

IMG_0158.HEIC Delicious. I love the French fries or baked potato covered in pork and queso, topped with BBQ sauce.

Reasonably priced and the portions are HUGE. The pic below was my 1 meat 2 side combo, half eaten & my son stole my ooey gooey Mac n cheese. The brisket melts in your mouth and the sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had, not sure if the regular fries are better bc they're both amazing in their own flavorful way (I'm a fry snob) my meal was like 10$? I took a box home so it actually made two meals. My boyfriend had the 2 meat 2 side combo which was like 12$? And the homemade banana pudding was to die for! Love how this is a family owned business, the owner who looks the meat and his cousin the chef both came out to check how everything was. My only complaint was how uncomfortably full I was after.

Good family restaurant. Large portions. We really enjoy the loaded fries and/or nachos. Very friendly wait staff.

They answered a few They have outdoor seating covered and on the deck available. I got the 2 meat platter with ribs and bologna. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. They had a little fat but were delicious. The bologna was fantastic as well. I got the street corn it has banana peppers, tomatoes and some seasoning it was very good. It is served cold so it is basically a corn salad. The beans were flavorful. The folks I was with (5 total) got the brisket, pork and chicken. They all said it was fantastic. They also had the Mac n cheese, okra fried pickles and hush puppies . No complaints and lots of compliments. This is a little hidden gem it has plenty of great food and desserts. I would highly recommend this BBQ place.

This restaurant used to be a Sweet Peas on the river. It was a 5 star establishment. It is no…read moremore. We ordered the trio of ribs, bologna and pulled pork. The ribs were super fatty and full of bone shards throughout [possibly due to some weird cut of the rib?, or poor cutting technique?] and so required picking/spitting out shards of bone with nearly every bite. Reminded me of eating bone-in fish. The meat was of low quality. They apparently don't dry rub the meat with any kind of seasoning, so very little good flavoring. The bologna was burnt to a crisp so 50% of the serving was inedible. Not sure what that was all about? The pulled pork was [seemingly] boiled [not smoked] therefore flavorless and was super fatty (nearly 30% of the portion size was fat), therefore an unappetizing wad of emulsion spat to the side of the plate. Also, the pulled pork was room temperature in the middle, as if a microwaved serving. The macaroni and cheese tasted as if out of a "boil it in water packet"--flavorless and unappetizing. We ordered wings and they were so over-cooked they couldn't even be chewed... tougher and drier than cheap beef jerky. The coleslaw was, in my estimation pretty good, but super super mayonnaise-y, so something to keep in mind. The "greens" pretty good as well. As for the baked beans... Very Good actually [why the 1-star instead of 0-star]... I'm not sure if they used brown sugar or molasses [maybe both?] but they were far better than say Buddy's but not as good as Calhouns. They do have a few wet sauce options for the meats, with the mustard sauce being the best... the other sauces were standard fare--not noteworthy. But if, like me, you like your ribs with only dry rub seasoning... given that this is NOT an option + the meat quality is extremely poor--I'd suggest that this is not the place for you. I know this doesn't sound very good but I will say to the staff's credit, as we finished eating, the waitress asked if everything was OK. We shared that the wings were inedible and she sincerely apologized for that. However, she offered no solution to correct/adjust accordingly. As we were walking out, the cook very nicely asked for feedback and we shared that the wings were inedible due to being left in the fryer far too long and that the pulled pork wasn't microwave-heated all the way through... So, for that small gesture of at least asking, I'd definitely give the staff two thumbs up! The ambiance is pretty much the exact same as before. However, the lighting is over-the-top harsh due to the installation of super glaring white LED lights that have been installed at eye level. Perhaps a dimmer switch, or lesser wattage bulbs would help. (I simply unscrewed the one in front of us until we finished eating and then screwed it back in.) In hindsight, we should have taken notice as to the "choice mistake" we were stepping into in that there was but one car in the parking lot when we arrived and only one other poor soul dining at this establishment--and that was at 5:30pm on a Friday evening no less! In closing, from this experience, I'm given to wonder [it seems as if] someone who knows nothing about BBQing or restauranting [the property owner?] watched Sweet Peas kicking butt and decided, "Hey, I'll run them off, duplicate their business, and keep all the moolah for myself!" Sadly, this experiment is failing [or is about to fail] miserably, I'm thinking. My recommendation to any diner wanting good BBQ is to go to Calhoun's or the original Sweet Peas... or, for the money you'll spend here, you can eat the Buddy's BBQ'd rib dinner three times. Good luck and happy dining!

First of all, be prepared to search for parking but I found a parking garage about a block away. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly bartender who made a good bit of conversation with me. I appreciated that and he recommended the wings. I wish I had taken him up on the wings. More on that in a moment. I felt like pulled pork though so I went with the sandwich and Chipotle mac and cheese. The pulled pork was tender, seasoned well, and went well with all the sauces. I never had Chipotle mac and cheese as it was a little spicy but oh so creamy and cheesy! There are 4 sauces - 3 on the table that are tomato base (mild, Chipotle, and Habanero) and the Alabama white you have to request. The Alabama White was my favorite as it was very black peppery. And that is why I should have taken the bartender up on the wings because that sauce with the wings would have been amazing. The other 3 sauces were thick and rich. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! Very good BBQ overall though it is limited and pricey and worth a visit to downtown Knoxville.
