We ordered BBQ for our superbowl Sunday take home dinner. We ordered half pound of brisket, half pound of pulled pork, quarter pound of pulled chicken, 6 cornflake chickens, 6 cornbreads, medium mac and cheese, small cream corn, small green bean and a small dirty rice. Although this place isn't always consistant it was amazing, and there is plenty of leftovers for lunch. Their smoked meats are typically great, and this was no exception. The cornflake chicken was large coated well and crispy. Cornbread was fresh and soft and just sweet enough. Mac & cheese was great. Creamed corn, was just okay, and I wasn't a huge fan of the dirty rice. Greenbeans tasted fresh and not from frozen which is a nice touch. Total was 84.14 which was well worth it! read more

The best thing about this place was the friendly staff. And the servings presented in a take out container was very nice so I could easily take home leftovers. For this they get 5 stars. I can only give 2 or 3 stars for the food. I ordered a brisket plate with cole slaw, baked beans and a corn bread muffin. The brisket was tough and too well done for my liking. The cole slaw was tasteless as were the baked beans. My favorite thing was the corn bread muffin. The cafe itself is clean and welcoming. It is super hard to find BBQ in New England that was actually smoked with attention to the type of wood used and it is obvious by the flavor in the chicken and pulled pork. My husband got pork and brisket. The chicken was smoked correctly as it was pink near the bone, and fell of the bone. I prefer my brisket in shreds but this was in slices which is fine. I wished they offered born ends but they do not. As a Southerner I treasure collards and creamed corn so I did not order them. I have been broken hearted too many times. But the potato salad was perfect as it had a slight mustard flavor to it and the cubes were the perfect texture. The coleslaw needed a bit more wetness and seasoning but it had a nice cabbage flavor and liked the style of the cut as it was not soggy. The Mac and cheese was good and perfect consistency of the creamy cheese and pasta. There are no bathrooms outside but there is outdoor seating -3 picnic tables which are first come first serve and 2 have sun umbrellas. They have coke products, flavored seltzer and juice. Caveat Emptor. Not a good experience at all. I've eaten great BBQ in the south. The owner should travel down there to learn how Q is done properly. He has no clue. Brisket was overcooked and lacked a good bark from a flavorful dry rub. Ribs had salt and pepper seasoning, no dry rub and no bark. But Jesus, the salt level was just damned unpleasant. I ate one piece of brisket and tried to get through one rib. Couldn't do it. Tossed the rest. I'll be drinking water all night. Neither the BBQ nor the NC mustard sauces worked for me. On the plus side the potato salad and cole slaw were decent. The best thing on my plate was a tasty corn muffin. That combo plate with sides and bottle of water was $35 (with tax). How does this place have 4.5 stars? Not everyone likes pepper sauce on their collards, and the vinegar from it was so strong I couldn't eat them. The baked beans were not the worst I've ever had, but they were certainly not good. The brisket was not nearly as tender as it should have been, and the mild bbq sauce to go with it was just meh. The best thing on the plate was the cornbread, and it was mediocre. On a side note (and I realize this is going to sound ridiculous), the collards were too hot. Not spicy, they were just scalding hot! I appreciate hot food, and there's no way I'd eat it if it was room temperature or cooler, but I also don't want to spend the majority of the meal blowing on the food because I burned my tongue. Ordered a bunch of stuff about $130 worth. The full rack of ribs with 2 sides was missing when I got home. I called and the worker said I can get a refund or come pick it up. I decided to go pick it up and also ordered another large coleslaw. I went inside to pay for the extra coleslaw and pick up ribs and 2 sides they forgot to give me. Lady at the register was rude and acted annoyed. I paid for my extra coleslaw and looked inside my bag and the two sides were missing. She gave me a hard time about the 2 missing sides. Just wow I'm really not sure what I did wrong. I guess it's my fault that I never got the food I ordered and had to drive back 20 mins to pick it up while I had guests over. Food is 2.5 stars. This was not one of the more pleasant experiences I've had eating BBQ in Southern NH. My wife and I ordered just about one of everything on the menu, being huge bbq lovers. I tried the corn bread/muffins first. They were dry and tasted like they had come from a box mix. The coleslaw tasted like wet cabbage, they did not put any seasoning whatsoever in the mac salad and there was way too much mustard in the potato salad. The pork belly tasted ok along with the pulled pork, ribs and brisket but it was really dry and you could tell it was not fresh but at least a day or two old. The worst thing on the menu was the mac and cheese which was so grainy and overcooked. I've had kraft mac and cheese which was 100% better. I will say the beans were decent, a bit overcooked but flavorful. The creamed corn with Jalapeños was excellent, the chicken fingers were great and I loved the chili. All in all, if you're looking for great bbq try someplace else. It's worth your time and money to do a little more exploring. read more

Okay, so at the risk of sounding cliche', "I'm not from the local area... been around the world... had BBQ in Texas (DFW Area)... previous Pub-Owner..." here's an honest review; it was very good I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs (in a combo-plate with two sides) and 1/2 lb. of the brisket. The meat was reheated in the microwave when I got home (12 mins later) and it reheated well in 30 seconds or so per 1/4 size (a thick tender slice of the brisket for example). The baked beans were a little bland, but the Mac salad was ok and the cornbread muffin was sweet and moist - that's good. I totally recommend this BBQ house. Smoke Shack Café catered a large, outdoor event for us recently. We found the Smoke Shack team to be very pleasant and easy to deal with. Melissa was particularly helpful and accommodating; especially when our projected number of diners jumped 50% with only a weeks notice! The day of the event went smoothly. The food was nicely presented, hot and tasty. Leftovers (there weren't many!) were even nicely wrapped and labelled for us. We had so many people compliment us on the food we're already planning on having the S.S.C. cater the event again next year! read more
