I will update once complete*** We have a two way fireplace and were looking for a new fireplace log insert. We worked with Aaron, who let us know that there were only a few choices available due to lack of two way fireplace popularity. He suggested a one way fireplace insert that they had "installed on hundreds of two way fireplaces" and "looks great". It had removable logs and Aaron suggested we buy two additional logs to hide the box, which we did. When the installer came, he forgot/did not bring the additional logs. This left the back of the fireplace/other side of the two way fireplace to look ridiculous. We called and let them know they forgot the logs and the first person told us we would have to pay an additional installation fee for their mistake- which seems crazy. We called back again as we were not going to pay that and they said we had to come by to pick up the logs as they would not install them. Also, this two way fireplace suggestion looks horrific. I have no idea how hundreds of people would have purchased this and anyone would think this looks good on both sides. I am not sure Aaron has never seen it installed... because I would never recommend it. I am super unhappy with service and final result. We love to support local small businesses. We spent almost $11,000 here. Aaron, the son of the owner runs this store. Today he told me I was a terrible customer because I respectfully told him I was frustrated with the lack of communication. After he got our credit card info it was like pulling teeth to get any updates. I have never been talked to by anyone like this before much less someone who interfaces with customers for a living. I had to drive there to get info in person. If you were responding to emails and phone calls over the last several months, I wouldn't have done that. Buyer beware of returns and restocking fees and being falsely accused of made up things to support that restocking fee. I bought a floor unit outdoor heater that they rolled out and put in my vehicle at full price. Made sure I asked if I could bring it back if I changed my mind as it was a floor unit. No problem just keep your receipt which I did. Took it home unloaded it and left it in my garage for 12 days. Decided it was more than I needed so I returned it inside the 15 day window. Upon my return Arthur asked why I was returning it, said it was just not going to get used and for the cost it didn't make sense. He promptly told me there would be a 20% restocking fee for which I asked what for it was a floor model. First he said you have had it for multiple weeks. No Arthur, it has not been multiple weeks, he responds, multiple weeks!!!. I said it has been 12 days which is not even two weeks. I have to pay someone to take it completely apart to inspect it to make sure you haven't done anything to it that could cause it to explode...Really cause it looks like I haven't even hooked it up and you are now accusing me of altering the unit in some way that is going to require you to pay someone over $200 to inspect it? I call BS. I promptly asked for the owners information, I was given his name and the generic help email which I promptly sent a message to Jim and his wife. Jim's response, more accusations, the unit is clearly scuffed and the filament and tube have discoloration that were not present before I purchased the unit. Really Jim, you weren't even there and for the owner to not even give me any sort of the benefit of the doubt is poor customer service at the highest level. He didn't call, reach out or offer up any other consolation, in store credit or something to try and save the situation. Just 3 sentence email accusing me of things I never did, that was it. I run an outdoor living space business and we pride ourselves on customer service and I find this level of disrespect beyond that which shouldn't go un-documented. I am not saying that everyone that shops there has a bad experience, in fact the AVERAGE reviews here would suggest some people have a good experience. If you have an incline of returning anything you buy there, i'd recommend you take pictures of it before it leaves the store, especially if it is already assembled, understand you are going to get hit with a BS restocking fee and you are going to be shown zero lack of respect for spending your hard earned cash at this business. All customers should be treated with respect as best as possible and making the situation right or even an attempt to make it right can leave a lasting impression. Smoke & Fire you not only lost me as customer but you also lost 10's of 1,000's of dollars in business I had planned on doing with you for all of the enclosure spaces we are building. I'd highly recommend based on some of the other feedback that you take a good look at how you handle situations like these. Giving the customer a little time and opportunity to figure out a better outcome could result in a far better feeling of not being shamed. The real shame here is on you and your business for treating customer like trash. After reading literally all of the reviews here I am astonished at the lack of respect these people have for customers. So much so that they openly support customer bashing with their responses. I've never experienced a business that is more focused on being right, than trying to help. All of these reviews show a clear pattern. After being a customer for years, we will never do business with them again. Purchased an expensive grill light for my husband for Christmas. Prior to completing the sale I specifically asked Aaron if the light was returnable as it was a Christmas gift. He said 'Yes, it was, just make sure to hold on to your receipt". My husband went to return it after Christmas with receipt and was told by Aaron that it could not be returned as it was a special order. After some solid visits here in the past year, I've been disappointed lately due in most part to their lack of customer service. Buying in stock items is still an OK experience, but my recent purchase of some grilling accessories has been a nightmare. I special ordered (and pre-paid) for a set of accessories for my smoker. Assured it would be "a week to ten days" I wasn't put off too much. This waiting game has turned into 7 weeks and no notifications from the store except when I call to ask about the status. Each time I'm told "we don't have a timetable for it's arrival and we'll call when it arrives." Grrrr. The worst part is that I've found the item in stock at a local hardware store for the same price. The receipt states no refunds on special orders so I'm in a bit of a jam either way. I'm at the point where I either want my money refunded so I can go buy it at the hardware store, or expedite the shipping to get it here ASAP. It's not an usual item and is probably something I should have picked up online anyway. I definitely won't order anything from them again. This store is awesome! They literally have every gadget, every gizmo, every seasoning and sauce! If it has to do with barbecue then Smoke N Fire has it. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable and eager to help you find what you are looking for. I overheard them making friendly product recommendations and ushering customers to their requested merchandise. On this visit I purchased a large bag of mesquite. Now, I have never purchased wood anywhere else so I cannot speak to this particular value. I will say that this wood produced the most delicious smoked ribs that have ever come out of my backyard. So why the two stars? Paul N. said it well. "This place is ridiculously OVER-PRICED." I do not shy away from spending money and I am far from cheap. 8 minutes ago-Edit This place is owned by a very unethical person. I purchased a fire place that was supposedly new on Dec 30 2020. I picked it up and took it home on Jan2nd. I unpacked the unit and there was cosmetic damage to the unit, bent canopy, missing screws holding the burner, tons of scratches on the interior. I got it on sale so it didnt bother me since i could correct all of the issues. About 5 days later I installed the unit and everything went fine. When i first lit the unit we had a very strong odor in the entire house. I read a few things that said it may be burn off or since I was remodeling my basement all of the dust could be causing the odor. I placed the unit and went on and finished the basement over the next 2- weekends. When i went to start the unit again we had the same odor across the entire home, 4000+ feet, so we turned it off. I tried to call them on a Friday, a Saturday and a Sunday (Feb 14, 15, and 16th) and was told no one was available to help me with a fire place. So I went ahead and had another company come out and check the unit on Monday. After an hour of testing the tech finally found a hairline crack in the pilot line whcih was leaking when the unit ran. I called Smoke and Fire on a Tuesday at 10 AM. 6.5 hours later and me calling them 3 times i finally spoke to the owner who basically questioned everything i was claiming. Here is his response "We have turned this in to Monessen, these things take time and we have not heard back yet. After multiple months having passed since purchase, no damage on the unit when purchased and loaded and a non authorized service person having worked on the unit I'm not sure how they will respond. Why didn't you notify us when needing service its odd you called another company?" I called Monessen and they had no claim open on the unit, they also told me the unit was 5 years old. It took me 10 minutes to get help and they were great, opened a claim case immediately. They sent me to Henges Insulation for service. They are great and listened to my issue and are working with the vendor to resolve the problem. Jim, the owner of Smoke and Fire, is lazy and a liar. The guy that sold me the unit told me he personally inspected the unit before boxing it up and it was brand new. I have attached the pictures of the unit from the day I unpacked it, brand new? My wife has always hated that store and said their service was horrible unless you were buying a large item, she has purchased several times for me there and we had purchased an electrical fireplace there as well several years ago. They sold me a damaged unit plain and simple. Since i did not pay them to install it they are basically not standing behind their products. A 3 year old can install a fireplace, it's not a science. I had the unit for about 45 days and their response was that I have had it for several months. I did have 2 other fireplace service companies tell me that they have also heard some negative things about Smoke and Fire and how they handle customer service. This is a great store with a great and very knowledgeable staff. From a beginner to a pro you can find amazing products for all things smoking and grilling. I love their buy 4 get one free on rubs and sauces. Samples are always available so you know what you are buying. And if you ever have a chance to attend one of their store parties or functions you should make it a point to do so. They are incredible. They also support local area charities and food pantries with their philanthropy. The cooking classes are a great resource along with Chef Richard's guidance and instruction. It is so rare to have a retail establishment with so much value added to your shopping experience. And it makes it easy for my kids to get gift certificates. They know what I like! read more

The technician showed up after work and did not have lights so he completed the service and cleaning in the dark. Love Smoke N Fire. It is a regular stop for me every week as I plan my weekend BBQ. I just wish it was closer to McGonigle's meat market! - Good selection of smokers and grills. Stick smokers, ceramic smokers, Weber grills, etc... I purchased my Kamado Joe here and it's been a high quality product that I've got a lot of enjoyment from. - They teach BBQ classes here with chef McPeake! The classes are hard, if not impossible, to get into because they sell-out 6 months in advance. However if you purchase a smoker, you get priority enrollment in the class. I've attended the class and found it very helpful. - HUGE selection of rubs and sauces. - Large variety of equipment, tools and supplies. - Good variety of lump charcoal and flavored woods. Why not 5 stars? Not a lot of staff. They're usually busy on weekends. Every time I have a question, it takes a good 10-15 minutes to corner a staff member and get help. Long waits at the check-out register too. They're a bit pricy too. I have a friend in the same business in Springfield, MO. His prices are usually a bit lower than Smoke N Fire's, not to mention less sales tax. read more

Worst customer service experience of a lifetime! I'd give negative stars if I could. I went into the store and chose a gas log vent free system. I ordered it under pressure from Arthur that he had only one left and the free remote special ends today! Even though the same system is $400+ dollars less online , I purchased from him because he sold us on their so called great customer service if we should ever have a problem. Well, boy did we have a problem! They installed the wrong one! We emailed immediately and called and left messages on their machine. We got a call Tuesday saying it was on backorder and would be called later to tell us when they were getting them in. No phone call back . We called 3 more times but we were told every time Arthur is with a customer and would call us back.Finally after my 5th call and me threatening to stop payment on my credit card he came to the phone saying he didn't return my phone call because he assumed I had info from Tuesday phone call. I said then why would I call you 3 more times? He proceeded to be rude and stubborn and argumentative. After a wasteful amount of time I told him I am stopping payment until the correct system is installed . He had no remorse for their mistake and no idea when it was coming in. Miraculously they came back in stock the same day after stopping payment on credit card. Installation was on Sunday. They took out old system and I told me I owe more for different one and I had to pay by check. I said that I don't want to pay by check, I will call credit card right now and take the hold off and pay the difference. He raised his voice got belligerent bordering on abusive and said that's not how it works! I said it's my 1,400.00 dollars and I will pay the way I want. He said some words and I told him fine take the old , wrong one and go. Don't spend one penny at this store! Unbelievable that with their only 2 star reviews on line they are still in business. If I could give a zero star review I would. In my twenty years living in Overland Park I have never received such rude, arrogant, and displeasing service. When we first entered the store the workers were reluctant to help. Then they tried to force the sale on us. Finally, they installed the wrong fireplace, didn't return our calls when we tried to resolve the issue. Over a week later they came to our house and argued with us on why it was our fault. I love this place. I needed a new grill and decided to go with one of their Beefeaters. This thing cooks my steaks as good as charcoal. I assumed all propane grills were the same. They explained the difference between a Home Depot type grill and the one I picked out. I couldn't be happier. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. As soon as I walked in I could smell BBQ.
