I wasn't ready for the extremely good level of service and food quality I received. Upon arrival we were met with some amazing staff and incredible service from assisting us with storing our gear and making us comfortable.(just above and beyond today standards) The menu was different in a good way and once explained by our great server it was easy to understand and order. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. It was perfect. It was served over potato which initially I thought was odd but they were some of the best mashed style potatoes I've ever had. ( I couldn't figure what they put in them). The sauce was homemade by using Heirloom tomatoes so it gave it a unique flavor and color that was very enjoyable. I wouldn't normally leave a review like this, but with the prices they are charging, honestly, I feel like the food we were served was not acceptable. It started out with my glass of wine, which was $18 and looked to be about a 4 ounce pour. The focaccia appetizer was very good. We sat there waiting for a good 30 minutes, excited to eat. My son ordered a burger and fries. The burger was OK, but the french fries were cooked so much that they were hollow inside. They were really bad. My husband and I split the pasta special and it was honestly terrible. It tasted like Campbell's tomato soup, and there was a very small amount of ground sausage in it. My other son got the mushroom papardelle. The mushrooms were good, the pasta seemed house made but was overall not very tasty and it was stuck together. The sauce was ok. On the plus side, the atmosphere was beautiful. very cozy and inviting. The waitress was very nice. If the food and portions could be caught up with the atmosphere, this place would be a winner for sure, but they've got a ways to go in my opinion. Hello! Today I was informed that I was going to Smoke & Timber and I was to dress up. I was intrigued. Immediately when we arrived we were greeted by valet, and then went inside. As we entered we were treated with a warm cozy atmosphere. We waited in very comfortable chairs, and saw a section with reading glasses, which I thought was really cool. As we got to the table our waitress greeted us with a smile and some bread. I will do a section for each food. Bread- delicious, they were rolls with coarse sea salt on top Then we put in our order and it was delivered in a timely manner, the owners greeted us and were very kind. Now onto the food Tomahawk steak- 10/10, it had an espresso mixture surrounding the steak, it was beautifully tender, however, if you're not into fatty steaks, would not recommend. Sexy Fillet- 100/10 this was my all star of the night, it melted in your mouth, made me cry happy tears, had excellent flavor, and paired wonderful with all the sides. Mac and cheese- 10/10 definitely used some garlic but was amazing, it used corkscrew noodles that trapped the cheese and the middles were al dente. Potatoes au gratin- 10/10 they were soft and were infused with garlic, covered in cheese, incredible taste Brussels sprouts-10/10 incredible seasoning and flavor, spicy start and sweet finish, something different yet incredible Brûlée Creamed Corn- 10/10, it was so soft in your mouth and was really flavorful without being too sweet, made me cry happy tears, and it made you want more and more Tres leches- 10/10 very sweet and had a wonderful taste and mouth feel . Cheesecake- 12/10 it was very well done, feels like it came from New York, very soft, and the pomegranate explodes in your mouth and adds a beautiful crunch ! Lasagna- 12/10 it had 5 meats, very delicious, it almost is indescribable it tasted like home and had a very distinct taste and the noodles weren't lost! Also made me cry tears of joy. The staff is very kind, the food delicious, the atmosphere like home, and the location was just gorgeous. Will be coming back and I rate our experience 100/10. I rarely leave reviews, but our experience at Smoke & Timber was disappointing from start to finish. We had reservations, yet still waited far too long to be acknowledged or seated, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. Once seated, our server repeatedly mentioned being new, which unfortunately became evident as the night went on. I ordered the snapper special, only to be told 25 minutes later that they were out. I substituted with the 8oz filet ($68), which came out overcooked and textured more like meatloaf than a filet. The accompanying carrots were nearly raw, and the bread was underbaked. The $22 Caesar salad was bland, and the $18 cocktail (a simple tequila soda) was mediocre at best. My husband's Diet Coke was never refilled. Ironically, the $14 french fry trio appetizer was the best thing we had all night. In total, our meal for two came to $225 before tip--a steep price for such poor quality and service. I spoke with the manager, explaining that we had been genuinely excited to try the restaurant after following their renovation journey, even driving 50 minutes one way just to dine there. She assured me she would "make it right," but nothing was done. Between the untrained staff, long wait, uncooked food, and overpriced drinks, this was a major letdown. Even the parking situation was frustrating. I truly wanted to love Smoke & Timber--but this visit was far from the elevated experience promised. IF I COULD DO ZERO STARS I WOULD. 6:45pm reservation. Friday. Pulled into Valet at 6:22pm. Literally not a person at the stand. Waited for side by side to pull up - turns out it was the two guys working the valet. Paid the $10 handed my key, walked inside. Hostess team was fantastic, very friendly, energetic, wonderful group. We were early and went to the bar for a cocktail. New bar menu, ordered two cocktails. Chai Lavender Cold Foam and Midnight Cabin. After a few minutes, bartender returned to inform us that they were out of an ingredient in the Chai Lavender Cold Foam, but could make it close with spices and whipping cream. We approved and they made the beverage. After that was delivered it was another 5 minutes before the midnight cabin was delivered as the first bartender didn't know how to make it and had to wait for someone else to make it. $50 later and 17 minutes after we ordered we sat to have our drinks. Once seated at our table, the hostess was kind enough to offer a stool for my girlfriends purse, we thought, "wow, how kind, great service". Natalie our server was wonderful, came by promptly and was probably the best part of our experience. Ordered Crispy Potato Rosti ($36) and French Onion Soup ($12) as apps. This is where our entire experience started to plunge into terrible. After a while the apps came out, runner who brought the apps spent more time twisting the plates for "appearance" than anything else. Rosti came out without creme fresh and "crispy" potato was a soggy mess with half assed caviar sprinkled on top. French onion soup might have been barely above 95 degrees - which for soup is "cold". I asked about the creme fresh and Natalie agreed it was wrong. She took the plate to the kitchen. We also ordred our main dishes, scallop risotto and beef wellington in the time the apps were ordered and delivered. Natalie returned with the rosti - only to have half frozen creme fresh squirted lazily across the top like sour cream at taco bell. (photo attached). Finally flagged down Natalie, cancelled our main dishes, offered to pay for our apps and leave. Natalie brought the manager over who said sorry and nothing else. Natalie stated they were taking care of the apps and apologized again. We tipped Natalie, she was the best part of our experience, and went to the valet. Valet couldn't find the key to my car. I have a very specific vehicle. Of which there was only one other possible key of the same make. The valet couldn't find the key and we walked over to the fire pit, he approached and asked if a fob in his hand was my key, seeing the brand, I agreed without looking deeper into it. They brought someone elses car up, not mine. I searched the valet stand with the two attendants. Still no key to be found. after about 10 minutes of them searching he approached again saying - "I've shown you this one but is it yours?" Everything from the moment the food hit the table to the time we left, HORRIBLE. Food was not even close to being good. Christine the manager said nothing, except other people complained about the french onion soup and she knew it wasn't hot. Wasn't going to say a word until I went back up to complain about the valet losing my key and then/only then, did she say anything other than sorry, but only after my girlfriend said something to her. Her customer service was a negative 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. Offered to "buy us dinner, if we gave them another chance". Zero percent. She clearly has no idea how to run a restaurant. Her level of sincerity and or attention to operations is broken. No amount of free food would get me to consider eating there again. Cocktails by the fire sure, but don't order anything more difficult than a wine or beer. Don't valet. Don't valet. DON'T VALET. They had 12 keys in the stand and lost one. Competency at it's worst. I have stopped into smoke and timber while coming down from work up in the wolf laurel community several times in 2025. I feel that the crew and I gave this place enough chances throughout this project and it is deserving of a review at this point. To begin if you are in the area and want a cocktail this place does have a monopoly. You'd have to drive to weaverville or Burnsville otherwise. So that is a relative plus. The drinks and general environment at good although pricey. This establishment is clearly striving for a Michelin star. Looking at their website, prices and advertising you would almost think they are close. This is so far from the case that it is difficult to put into words. On several occasions I have ordered food either alone or with my crew. It is EXPENSIVE. Like manhattan expensive. And for that price you would expect quality service and the highest quality meal. Each time we have received neither. On most of these occasions the food has taken upwards of 45 minutes to arrive while the establishment is not busy. When it has arrived it has consistently been sub par food at best. A $28 smash burger, unseasoned with American cheese and a small helping of fries feeling like a fast food item on a fancy wooden tray. $45-$50 salmon dishes that arrived extremely dry. A Duroc Pork chop at one point was a $65 or so mild success although it took an hour to arrive at the table. I very much enjoy high end dining. I have only once felt so dissatisfied that I post a review and this is that time. This establishment looks pretty but requires a complete overhaul on the food and service situation. I would rather spend less at any other establishment in a nearby town than be subjected to the experience and price tag of smoke and timber. read more

Food and service was first rate! Gosh they're also such fun people - the bartenders are as amazing as the wait staff! They checked on me but not annoyingly too much and it seemed genuine not fake. Recommend their special which was a thick noodle type spaghetti bolognese with panchetta which was good for two people. In fact most of their dishes are shareable between 2-3 people .Also had the espresso mousse which was not too overly sweet like most desserts! Wow! This place is a total game changer for WNC... the location is lovely, and the venue itself is so beautiful. Team is awesome! From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed, like they're genuinely happy you're there. Our server, Maya, was so great - attentive, knowledgeable, helpful. Was so excited that we had a restaurant & bar option up here in Wolf Laurel, but soon realized the $15-$20 drinks that you wait a minimum of 20 min for are tasty, but not sure it's worth it. Had dinner & though my burger was way overcooked the rest of the food was very good. But once again way overpriced. I feel and from what I've heard from the locals they are understaffed and I'd have to agree from what we experienced. The staff that did attend us were awesome. We would've definitely given it a little bit more of a try over the next week, but found out Hatley Pointe is closed for the next 10 days, over the busiest weekend of the summer, WOW is this a hobby or a real business, I guess we will see. read more

I took my family for the Christmas Buffet today. First I must say the server's are very nice and attentive, and showed caring. The owners decided to charge $75 per adult and $40 per child for this so the total for me was $422 for 4 adults and 2 children. The quality of the buffet and choices available to me were like a cheap breakfast place. Scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon ,sausage and other similar items on cheap spreads. Shame on you ! - where is the turkey or ham, mashed potatoes or string beans. Where were other Christmas staples ? There was no menu when booking but I figured it would be worth the price given that they want to be known as a high end venue. I was very wrong. Most of the items you would get at a cheap hotel breakfast that they offer for staying there. I kid you not - Soda and other items were extra - I wanted what I always get when I eat out - a unsweetened iced tea - not an outlandish request -nope, they didn't have any. Today also validated the less than stellar experience I had last season when we went for dinner. They will never be equivalent to the prices they charge - I regrettably will never go back - for the same price we could have had a wonderful dinner at a high end restaurant - Loved being with my family -just wished it was elsewhere. Other people have already figured it out, the owners need a reality check or offer more for the price. read more

The whole atmosphere & vibe is amazing here. However, I think they missed the mark on 2 of the food items we ordered. First off, the French onion smash burger. We were picturing a burger with carmelized onions on top but it was a very plain burger with a French onion powder seasoning. Just not quite what we were expecting. The 2nd thing was the brulee creamed corn. We were expecting a real brulee with a burnt sugar top but it was more of a corn soup with no torched top. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The space looked beautiful, that, I can say. So someone is at least paying attention to that. Our order came out within 15 minutes of ordering, which in some cases would be a good thing. Not for fine dining. It means the food is all pre- cooked and finished as ordered. Of course for something like short ribs and risotto that has to be the case. But Pasta? that's not ever good. They clearly specialize in pasta dishes. As such, the pasta is the star and should be cooked to perfection (which is a very basic level of cooking). My pappardelle was undercooked...not Al dente...undercooked. Many pieces were folded over on themselves and not at all uniform. My disappointment was compounded by the fact that the sauce was flat, lacking any real depth and richness and what stood out was a sweetness, not the full depth that a braised short rib should have given it. My partners bucatini was over cooked. Her sauce was tasty and at least had some depth to it. Our 16 year old had the risotto with scallops and mushrooms with truffle. Didn't try the scallops but the risotto was ok..not terribly creamy but the truffle flavor came through. All in all, very disappointing meal and very expensive for such a let down. There were 3 of us, I don't drink, my partner had 1 glass of wine and we ordered a ceasars salad and the total was 198.00. Don't think we'll be driving back 30 minutes for the food and disappointment. read more
