I've been going to this location for close to twenty years. The business owners that run the shop are very nice and professional. They are pretty efficient. Usually takes less than 10 minutes to smog my vehicles. read more

I wish I could give them a zero star review. I went there for a smog check every time I needed one with different vehicles I had. I have no bad experience with that. However, the last time I went I decided to also get an oil change from them. They talked me into getting the synthetic oil change which cost more. They said synthetic oil lasts with many more miles. My car's warning light just went on for oil change this morning. I have recorded the mileage because it was the first time I got a synthetic oil change and I wanted to compare. The mileage I got out of it was 2,955 miles. It was less than the mileage I got from regular oil changes of 3,925 from Honda dealership. So my conclusion would be they charged me for an expensive synthetic oil change but gave me a very low quality regular oil change. Also, I asked the jerk if he put air in my tires which requires by law. He said yes and it was a lie. I drove home and the next day the warning light was on for low tire pressure. Please don't go there to do business. They are very dishonest people. I will never go back there again for smog check too. read more

Tech was very rude. Told me to leave. I bring my vehicles here for their smogs not any more poor customer service and have no knowledge of their profession or rules of smog and areas. Tried to give me some bs...called another shop and they took care of me the proper way and was $30 cheaper. I use to recommend these people...not anymore go anywhere else read more

Quick and easy smog check station! Usually we drop in and don't have to wait too long.

We have taken our cars there for years great customer service , this year I had a few questions and the lady on the phone was the sweetest

Service was quick and the prices were reasonable. The man working at the shop was very nice and was able to have our vehicle smog checked within 25 minutes. read more

I'm happy to say that recently Shawn performed a biannual smog test on my vehicle and as usual it passed immediately, it was an in/out the door in 15-20 minutes. He's always been courteous and wast no time So that we can get out of the door and our way. Thank you again, my car will be back in 2 years time. Glad to keep doing business with you read more

Brought in my old truck. They said it didn't pass cuz I had a battery change recently. They charged me 91 of the 99 bucks. Basically knew it failed right away because of this (didn't know that was a thing and I guess that's on me). Complete BS in my opinion that they charged me that much for about a minute of work. I'll NEVER EVER GO back there. read more

This place is great! The people are so helpful. I haven't been driving a lot since WFH and my car wouldn't pass the smog test because of that. They helped me figure out the right drive cycle for my car and let me return to retest within 30 days without an extra charge. Highly recommend. Thanks Smog World! read more

I needed a smog test and Smog World was able to complete the test in 20 minutes. I was very pleased that I could wait for the test in an air-conditioned room, which was very comfortable. Closed Sundays. Fast service; however, it is unclear when arriving that you should get out of your car and go into the office, rather than remaining in your car, or heading to the open window facing the front. Multiple people who arrived at the same time were equally confused. Smog check was satisfactory. I may come again. All employees were polite and friendly. They were the best part of the operation. Thank you! read more

Smog World - Hours. Closed Sunday. - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Castro Valley, California

We took a 32 foot RV here to get smogged today (which most smog stations can't accommodate), and the staff was super helpful with us in trying to sort out an issue we had. Instead of simply washing their hands of the issue (which wasn't their problem) they offered to help us sort through the issue, which was above and beyond what was required of them. That's great customer service and I highly recommend taking your vehicle here for smog services. Thanks so much for your help! :) read more

They're knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. Helpful in a way that they won't let you feel you don't know anything because you're a lady, will take time to explain everything to you. My go-to car shop for smog and oil change. The other shop (Larry's shop) here in Castro Valley not only demeaned and vandalized my car (wrote 5w-30 in permanent marker in my hood) but also doesn't care about their customers because he acts like all people go to him because he's so well-established in the area already, that one customer will make no difference for his business. read more

I had been going here for about 10 years. This year I brought in a local competitors coupon for them to match per their sign on the door. Not only did they not match it, they didn't even try to come close. I told them I would not be returning and they really didn't seem to care. There are so many other places out there for much cheaper, so do your research online first. read more

Took me in right away in my 26 Foot RV. I was ASTONISHED at how thorough the technician was. He answered every single question I had and then some. They went above and beyond from the very beginning and I will definitely bring back my business. read more

good smog check. fast, pleasant. but wait, there is more. my car battery died after my smog test and i had to leave my car and walk to a very important appointment with my ten week old son. The owner waited 45 minutes after closing time for me to return. Then he jumped my car for me so that we could get home. I am in awe of their generosity! read more

I have had two cars tested at this establishment. They are fast and their rates are competitive. Also, they accept coupons from local smog shops. In these days and age, auto garage trustworthiness can be questionable, you can rely on these guys. I highly recommend these guys - they get the smog test done and are no-nonsense. read more

Showed up first thing in the 8am on Saturday to get a smog check. Employee showed up late to open the shop. Price seemed a little higher than normal (41.95) but good thing they accept competitors coupons! Tried to use a coupon from nearby Castro valley competitor but was told he couldn't accept it because it was on my phone instead of a printed copy. They should probably specify that on their sign. After coupon was rejected I asked how much he could give me off and he said $5. Didn't feel like arguing, Other places charge $29.95 without all this coupon hassle so I took my business elsewhere. read more

Great local smog checking business. Even though we all are required to get them done, it's always so much better when you know your car will pass and it is easy and quick and not too expensive. I highly recommend this place over Jiffy Lube or some other corporate entity who just want to take your money. At Smog World, if they notice your car might not pass they will let you know so that you can fill 'er up with gas or go change the oil, but they are only trying to be helpful and make sure that our cars pass the dang smog test! Smog World is the best! read more

How can I start? Brought my husbands car and did not pass. Took car back within 30 days and passed and as promised it was free but there's a $10 retest fee. It would have been fine if I had the money. My husband is at work so I'm stuck! The owner said it's okay, to just pass by when I have it another time. The relief that came over was very much appreciated. Thank you Smog World! Awesome folks here and highly recommend. read more

We were charged 50% more here because our DMV notice requires a STAR station versus a regular station. I found out later that there's no difference in the test !!! I realize the price is posted, but I still have to mention this. According to reliable sources, when your DMV renewal notice says you need a STAR station, you have to go to one. Some stations are STAR certified and some are not, but the test is exactly the same !!! Some honest STAR stations will charge the same price regardless of what your DMV notice says, simply because they are performing the exact same test. read more

If I could give it zero star I would. The owner speaks very curt to his customers. His employee was very kind and nice but I will never return because of how I was treated by the owner. They also nickel and dime you. I had a $10 coupon and still had to pay $70 to get a smog check. Don't be tricked by their coupons. This was one of the most awful experiences I've had at the smog place. Thank God my next car is a tesla and I will no longer have to deal with smog checks. read more

I just needed to get a smog done in order to pay my registration, and decided to give this place a try. Was in and out in 15 minutes or so and their prices are very fair. About what you would find at any other smog place, around $40. I guess there are two different types of smogs you could get, so there is a more expensive one for like $60 I think. It all depends on what your registration says. This place got the job done without any issues and was quick. read more

Wasn't my first choice, went to another station after reading rave reviews but when I arrived there one of the employees came out and said the smog guy wouldn't be in until an hour. Go figure. Definitely recommend this place, will come back again for sure! read more

This is the first time I used them; I came here as the place I went to, which was supposed to open at 8:30 AM, was not open when I arrived. My first impression was positive, as their parking lot is quite spacious, unlike the other place. They were cheerful, helpful, professional, and I was out of there in 10 minutes (I arrived around 8:40 AM and was the only car there at the time as obviously people were getting ready for July 4th). The price charged was quite reasonable, and quite a bit lower than some other places I have gone to. I can recommend them without hesitation, and will go there next time I need a smog check (no thanks, DMV). read more
