My friend suggested Chabot Smog, so I thought I would give them a try. I came for a smog test on my 2000 GMC 2500 pickup truck, no appointment, just drove into the lot in the afternoon. Really excellent service, there were some potential issues identified, all of which were clearly and carefully explained before I agreed to the test. Wow, so quick! I am not sure what the going rate for a basic smog is but this price seemed reasonable. (reasonable considering it's California and everything is expensive LOL). I called ahead to see if there was a wait and unfortunately 2 people got there before me. It only took about 25 minutes total even with the 2 people in front. Super friendly and quick turn around. Good.... It was easy to make an appointment for my smog check. Once I arrived. it was a quick in and out.

I came in to get my scheduled smog check and I think I was SCAMMED. It was a quick smog check and everything was good. After I paid, went to my car to leave and it would not start. I went back in and asked the owner, "what did you do with my car?" He directs me to the auto shop right behind his garage. They checked and tell me it will cost $1700 for parts and labor for repairs. I am stunned ...My car was working fine when I got there. The car passed the smog and engine check and then suddenly does not work. I opted to tow my car to my mechanic friend and he tells me that 2 wires look as if they were tampered with (he said, they look burnt). He told me having 1 wire burned out is a possibility; but to have both (at the same time) is nearly impossible. He tells me scams like this happen all the time. They would mess with your car and direct you to a specific auto shop. Also, while waiting for the tow truck, I noticed that the smog place had 2 signs advertising the very same auto shop he recommended me to go to on the back and side of his garage. These scams may not happen often, but I wonder if this happened to someone else. I would warn everyone to be careful. From now on, I will be watching the person as they work on my car. I will never come back to this place. Again, my car was absolutely working fine before I brought it in. Beware and be safe. TY read more

I was bummed to see a smog test was needed on my car renewal registration. Working Monday-Friday, I usually have to get my car stuff done on the weekends, so I needed to find a place open on a Saturday. Thankfully Chabot Smog was open! It's easy to miss, but know that it's in between the car wash and the Convenience store on Lake Chabot Road. Emran was friendly and there was only one other guy in front of me getting his car done, so I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Also know that they give you $10 off if you check in on Yelp, so I definitely took advantage of that! My car passed and the results were sent to the DMV and was all taken care of when I renewed a few days later. I'd definitely come back next time I have a smog test due! read more

I've been going here for years. I was going to him when he worked somewhere else. Let me tell you, he is about as honest as honest gets. Tried to quick fix my car when it wasn't gonna pass smog. Didn't charge me and said bring it back when you think it will pass. Also other numerous times looked through my car and tried to actually figure out why wouldn't pass so he could send me somewhere to get it fixed correctly. No one does that anymore. Called for an appointment, got in same day, comfortable waiting room, friendly staff, efficiently done. Nice experience overall! If you have an older vehicle, probably a good thing to call ahead to confirm what the charges will be and how you can save some money by preparing before you go.
