Bar with some of the pool tables in the background.
Jim H.

Smitty's is a pool hall with a bar and kitchen. I have been coming here since they took it over from North Park Grill. This place is laid back. Everyone gets along great. Food is good, drinks are good and moderately priced. Personnel are friendly, pleasant and do their best to be attentive.

Small tables where charged at $0.04 per min

Truth be told, we dragged our feet trying this place, even though I had heard good things about it,…read morebecause it looked a bit like a dive bar. But now I'm kind of sorry we took so long. We were seeking a good salad, and they didn't disappoint. They have a build your own option, so you can choose the protein, toppings, type of lettuce, and dressing. My salad was fantastic! That being said, another person at our table ordered the same thing but was disappointed by her topping choices. For example, they don't shred the carrots, they chopped them. And they use white onions instead of red? She was also told croutons were included on the salad but there were none. So, satisfaction with the salad is going to depend on the toppings you choose. Hubby ordered a patty melt and onion rings and said it was so so. The restaurant is rather small inside, so if you visit on a busy weekend, get there early. If you are a sports fan, you're in luck! I've never seen so many TVs in one restaurant, playing every sports program imaginable. There is also a small cupboard outdoor patio for overflow (or quiet). If you're looking for a casual place to grab a beer and some bar food to watch your favorite sports show, Sapphire's is a solid choice.

Service - 5:5 My server, Mandy, was perfect. She did…read moreeverything right, but there was one small thing that stood out above everything else: she asked me my name, and then she used it. I cannot tell you how impressive that is. It takes almost no effort, but it completely changes the interaction. Instead of feeling like another customer at another table, you feel like someone they're genuinely happy to have there. That is hospitality, and Mandy nailed it. Ambience - 5:5 Sapphire's has a really nice, relaxed environment. It feels like a good local hangout, the kind of place where you can settle in and stay awhile. It's not rowdy. It's not pretentious. It's warm, welcoming, and comfortable. There's just an easygoing feel to the place that works. Food - 5:5 I ordered the Prime Rib Points, medium rare, and they came out perfectly cooked. They were served with toasted baguette slices and an in-house horseradish sauce. The beef was tender, hot, and exactly the temperature I ordered. The horseradish sauce was excellent and complemented the prime rib without overpowering it. And here's something that deserves mentioning: my food was in front of me within about 15 minutes of ordering it, piping hot and perfectly prepared. That's about as good as it gets. I'm glad I came back and refreshed my memory of just how good Sapphire's is. The fact that my experience several months later was every bit as good as the first one says a lot. My only complaint? I wish I lived closer.

First, I would like to start off with a few positives about the establishment. My Wife and I have…read morebeen going to this location for a few months and found that the staff and several regulars have been great and more than welcoming. The staff learns your drink orders fairly quick and some of the regulars become accustom to you and build a pretty good relationship with you within the bar. The food is good and fresh and the drinks are not bad either, however where things get off track are those regulars who basically come off as owners of their area of the bar. My wife recently during one visit spoke with me about feeling a bit uncomfortable with one specific male individual who apparently kept embracing her in a manner she was not ok with. I spoke with the individual on our next visit at the bar and he again hugged her in a manner that neither one of us approved of. When I confronted the person he completely dismissed both our concerns and basically stated that how he was raised it was ok to greet a woman in that manner. I got angry and explained that this is a wife and not some bar chick and that we did not care for the optics of what he was doing. Long story short, one would believe that at a bar where a murder occured only 2 weeks ago people would be more receptive to toning down the riff raft and just enjoying themselves. Well my wife said she wanted to leave and we left after only one drink and I avoided having a physical confrontation with a person that is tone deaf. My only thing to add to this is that when a man tells you to not invade his wife's space you should listen because at this bar people have learned there may not be a next time.
