Bull Smith's Tavern - Dallas Burger

Absolutely love the vibe here! We went during a semifinal game with the Knicks so there were a few…read morepeople watching the game. It was also May 4th, and I'm happy to see they were also playing Star Wars. I got the grilled chicken sandwich which came with fries (I got sweet potato). It was plenty of food for me! Our waitress was very attentive and kept checking in on us.

Tried Bull Smiths Tavern on Monday afternoon on a bright clear 65 degree day. I immediately noticed…read morethe setting; big garage doors open along the large L-shaped bar which made for a great indoor-outdoor atmosphere. There's also a solid amount of outdoor seating, and the space overall feels like it can easily transition into a nightlife or event spot later on. Then our dining experience got underway. The bartender who sat us was friendly. The service however lagged behind thereafter. The service was slow, likely because our waiter seemed to be juggling multiple roles. A few small things were quite a bit annoying. There was no physical beer list, so being rattled off a long list of tap and bottle beers felt like a memorization game that I had to choose a beer on the spot. Also noticed the table and menu felt a bit sticky, suggesting some attention to cleanliness is needed. Food was a mixed bag. The Nashville chicken sandwich was underwhelming--a thin piece of chicken served lukewarm, topped with two pickles, and minimal coleslaw on a Martin's potato roll. The lack of slaw made it harder to balance the spice, and oddly, the fries were hotter temperature wise than the sandwich itself. The Bull Smith burger fared better. It was well-constructed and flavorful, especially with the onion ring and BBQ sauce, and the bun was great. That said, burger came out more a well-done temp than the requested medium-well, which took away from it slightly. A few details stood out more as missed opportunities than real issues: there was no mention of that the special for Monday was pasta night. Also not a mention it was happy hour. And while fry substitutions were offered, the upcharge wasn't disclosed. None of these impacted the final bill negatively, but clearer communication would have improved the experience. Overall, it's a place with a good setup, but inconsistent service, some cleanliness issues and execution hold it back. I might return, but service speed and attention to detail would need to improve.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to check Faraday's out. Today was the day for lunch…read morewith my dad. As expected, it was a casual pub style spot with a bar and a small dining area in the back. For this Friday afternoon, it was quite busy. It was bustling with almost all the tables taken by the time we left. Our server was friendly and upbeat. She offered suggestions based on our preferences. We both ordered the same thing - burgers. They came out quickly. The burgers were big and yummy. They satisfied our craving perfectly.

I've been here on numerous occasions hoping that maybe this would finally be the visit where everything clicked. Unfortunately, it just hasn't happened. My experiences have been so-so, and more often than not they've been slightly disappointing. My biggest complaint has always been the food. My take has been it's been bland or uninspired. The French onion soup was just ok, and seemed like no effort putting this together. No provolone cheese option when I've ordered which is crazy. The Caesar salad tasted diluted, with lettuce that seemed waterlogged rather than crisp and fresh. Just overall underwhelming. The food is not necessarily terrible, but just mediocre and forgettable. Portion size is another problem. For what you're paying, the plates often feel surprisingly small. One example of this was the "Big C Burger," which was honestly a huge letdown. With a name like that you'd expect something substantial. Instead, the burger was tiny--maybe 4-5 ounces at most. At first glance you could barely even see the meat because the bun swallowed it. I ordered it medium and it came out completely overcooked, cooked to death really. The bun didn't help either--dense, dry, and overpowering the already small patty. The whole thing just felt poorly executed. Even the little details were off. I asked for olive oil on the side for a salad and what came out was clearly some generic vegetable oil. It felt like a lazy substitution, the kind of thing that makes you question how much care is going into the kitchen overall. To be fair, the one thing Faraday's consistently gets right is the atmosphere. The restaurant is has a cozy charming space with a warm pub feel. The indoor dining area although small has character and a comfortable vibe. The outdoor area is really nice too, and perfect for setting for a nice meal on a comfortable day. Service is good. I've not had any issues with any servers ever being inattentive. Occasionally some order mixups but quickly rectified. Unfortunately, that inviting setting hasn't translated to memorable meals. After several attempts over the years, Faraday's has remained one of those places that seems like it should be good--but for me, it just never quite hits.

We…read morewere there for about 20 minutes and not a single server came by to take our drink orders, so our entire table ended up going to the bar ourselves. By the time a server finally checked on us, most of us already had drinks, and we placed our food orders. I had the chicken and waffles, my boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs, and we also ordered a bottle of mimosa.. but the food took forever, and the bottle of mimosa never arrived. We had to go back to the bar for drinks again. Food arrived slowly and out of order, and the staff didn't seem to know which dishes belonged to whom. When my boyfriend finally got his steak and eggs, there were more eggs than steak, and the steak was completely bland. My chicken and waffles finally arrived, and I had to wait an additional 10 minutes just to get syrup. The chicken was tasteless and inedible. Everyone at the table agreed the food was bland overall. The only highlights were the mimosas and tater tots. This place has potential, but they need more staff and much more attention to the food quality. You can change the name a bunch of times but if you can't change the quality of the food and service it's going to fail every time!

It's like a lounge/restaurant speak easy type of feel which is relaxing. A DJ came on and played a good mix of popular music -easy sing along hits, feel good vibes. The waitress allowed us to finish our meal and drinks, pay and vibe out without the pressure of leaving which is a huge bonus. Drink was passion fruit margarita. Delicious not weak drink but not super strong to knock you down. Perfect balance. The tostones were the star my ancestors were proud . The Mac n cheese was ordered by my friend who did not enjoy it but then again she wasn't really hungry. I enjoyed the buffalo egg roll. Will comeback and try entrees when we are actually hungry.

This place isn't trying for polished restaurant experience, and honestly, that's kinda part of its charm. It feels like the kind of spot where the bar comes first and the kitchen supports it if this makes sense. The atmosphere is a neighborhood hangout feel. You can tell it's a local spot--people walking in were greeted by name, and there's a familiar, lived-in vibe that makes it feel welcoming if you're a regular, and easy enough to settle into if you're not. Food-wise, the corned beef on both the Gaiety and the Finnegan's Wake sandwiches stood out--tender, flavorful, and generous. Both sandwiches came with fries, and while I appreciate skin-on fries, these leaned a bit soggy rather than crispy. Overall, this is a solid spot if you go in with the right expectations. It's less of a destination restaurant and more of a go-to pub where you can grab a drink, and enjoy pub food. If you're looking for a lively, casual bar with good portions and a strong local following, it delivers--even if not everything on the plate is perfect. I think I'd like to make an update review after trying a few more dishes. At a glance, 3.5 with overall good experience.
